Love em both.  I like the changes to Kate’s dress.  The blue would have been a better choice for her coloring, but the yellow is more fun and more in keeping with her personality.

  • Introspective

Im not in love with the Jason wu. there’s a bit of “fashion on ice!” going on with that netting/lace stuff that im not liking. thank god its not shorter or else Kate would totally be a full on nancy kerrigan.

olivia seems like she’s at the office holiday party and not a premiere. cute cardi set for sure, but a little casual no?

  • Sobaika

Olivia is the cutest girl at the office holiday party!

    •  Agree, it’s very chic for the ladies-who-lunch set.

  • kimmeister

The Jason Wu is way better than the last Wu dress featured on here, but I still don’t love it.

I totally love Olivia’s clothing but don’t think the shoes and clutch in black were the right choice to pair with it.

  • G

Hate the Jason Wu, really like the L’Wren Scott.

    • H2olovngrl

All I can see are black lace spiders all over her chest. Yuck.

  • Olivia Wilde: World’s Edgiest Bank Teller.

  • Imasewsure

Olivia Wilde looks amazing. I think Kate’s dress is one of the ugliest things I’ve seen all year (on her and on the model, short and long… and the color don’t matter n’either)….

  • Trisha26

Kate’s dress is simply hideous – it looks cheap and that YELLOW draping at the front is not flattering (sorry Jason Wu). Olivia looks very nice from shoes to hair, prefer the top tucked in as in the model photo.

  • Joyce VG

UGH don’t like the Jason Wu dress.  Ugly color.  And Olivia looks like a secretary.

  • RocknRollmom

I love the Jason Wu dress on the model.  Whatever it is that Kate Mara is wearing is a crime against nature.  Hideous color, not good short.  If you have to stand next to Olivia Wilde on a RC, one needs to bring her A game. Mara has failed abysmally.  She is not even on the same planet, let alone in the ballpark.  Olivia looks fabulous.  I yet again wish to be thin, hipless, and tall to be able to wear L’Wren Scott and the color white.  Because if I was thin, hipless, and tall, I could then afford to buy same, right??!!  Absolutely LOVE Olivia’s shoes.  And the clutch!!!

And yes, I could wear Olivia’s outfit to the office.  So I get those comments, but I think she looks  great!.

  • decormaven

The way Olivia Wilde is dressed, she looks like Kate’s mom. Too casual a look for the RC for me. The color of the overlay on the Jason Wu dress hurts my eyes, and the lace is puckering on the bodice. Not a pleasing look.

  • The Jason Wu looks like somebody got embarrassed by the drab lace dress and unsuccessfully tried to cover it up with some sheer netting they had lying around.

  • marilyn

They should have stayed home.  The oatmeal separates are what your mom wears to a deposition, and the chartreuse dress looks like a negligee gone terribly wrong, being worn by a 14 year old.   In fairness, the oatmeal color is good on her.  The chartreuse is a horrible color for the other her.  Bad, bad, bad.

  • Qitkat

So odd that Jason Wu is using the same shade of highlighter yellow that auffed Kayne on the episode when Wu was a judge.
I’m not saying there is any connection, just that it was the very first thought I had. A difficult color to flatter almost anyone, and it just makes me shudder here, in such a large amount.
I think I would like the L’Wren Scott in a color better than this beigey bore.

    • Sara LaBatt

YES I had the same thought about Kayne and the color!

  • schadenfreudelicious

that Jason Wu abomination may get my vote as ugliest dress of 2012….

  • Sara__B

I dislike everything about the draped sheer over lace dress, especially the unpleasant color. I like everything about the sparkly pencil skirt and sweater, but a bit of color in the styling (NOT that ugly greenish yellow of the other dress!) would have been nice.

  • bertkeeter

MR WU…not much of a repetoire…..Ms. Scott….thank GOD you slept w MJ or else god know where you’d be?

  • kate is SMIZING SO HARD

  • Olivia Wilde looks like Kiera Knightley’s prettier American cousin. I like what she’s wearing, but they look like they dressed for two separate events. Olivia is going on a cute date with her accountant boyfriend, and Kate Mara is going to a fashionista party where they hate everything and nobody eats. Although it must be said, i like the dress, if not exactly on her.

  • MilaXX

I wish Kate had worn the Jason Wu in the blue color, that yellow is doing her no favors. Olivia Wilde looks like she’s going to the office rather than the RC.

  • alyce1213

    Double ick.

  • teensmom99

I admire Kate for being willing to stand next to Olivia . . . since O makes it all seem so easy.

  • siriuslover

Kara Mara looks like a mannequin and Olivia Wilde seems a bit underdressed, though I like her look here.

  • kcarb1025

Love the way the L’Wren Scott is styled on the model… on this girl it is very drab, holiday party with the bank co-workers.

  • rhl25

I cannot adequately express how much I hate that yellow.

  • Oh poor Kate. Having to wear that hiddy dress next to chic Olivia. Poor Kate.

  • briecee

No to the bumblebee colors and the weird high neck.

No to the drop stitch cardigan.  Seriously, those things need to die.  Also, no to visible foundation garments, I don’t care how cute the knitwear is.

  • barbarienne

I was sick of that chartreuse color the first time I saw it. It’s a color that looks good on almost nobody, including Kate Mara, I’m sorry to say. It would have been awesome on her in that blue.

Olivia Wilde’s look is fine. I’m uninspired, but it looks good on her. Her hair is fantastic. I hate those shoes.

    • MilaXX

I look awesome in chartreuse, Kate does not.

  • olivia is dressed as the shy wallflower at her first office party.  i must be the only person in the world who likes chartreuse.  me and kate mara.  so glad she didn’t keep the front slit, on the model the black lace looks like pubic hair.

  • quiltrx

I had no idea Kate had such a tiny head!  (or is Olivia’s huge?  This may be one of those Damon/Affleck things LMAO)  Something weird about her face/makeup here…she kind of looks like a mannequin.

And as for the outfits, I can’t muster up much of an opinion on either.

  • RzYoung

Love both of these looks. Love the cardy and skirt combo especially!

  •  I don’t hate this as much as the last Jason Wu sheer over lace window treatment she wore, but only by a very narrow margin. I also think Olivia Wilde’s outfit would be wonderful for Christmas mass & lunch with the family (which sounds much more dismissive than I mean it to – I genuinely like it).

    • Jennifer Coleman

I agree with the assessment of Olivia’s L’Wren Scott ensemble. I like it just fine for a daytime event. The Jason Wu number suffered from being revised to a short dress. The chiffon overdress was supposed to be the dominate element but by cutting it, the short lace underdress gains equal footing, so both pieces are fighting each other.

  • thecitysleeps

I really don’t like Kate Mara’s dress.  The yellow looks almost surprisingly dreary with the lace showing underneath.  I love Olivia’s outfit including the shoes though.

  • SewingSiren

I think Olivia looks great. I sure hope the beading is on the back of the skirt and sweater too, because if it’s not I would scream and immediately hate it.
Kate looks like it’s her first time at the adult table and she wants to look the part. I like the color of the dress, but the black lace showing through the chiffon looks like an underwear mistake , even though I know it is intentional on the designers part.

  • Little_Olive

Agree with the commentariat that they don’t seem to be going to the same event.
Olivia looks better (if very new-associate-who-got-a-clothes-allowance), because I am very not convinced by Kate’s dress… and she looks like she is wearing A LOT of foundation there.

  • MsMajestyk

Olivia should really get that broken ankle set.

  • formerlyAnon

Close, but no cigar. In both cases.

I like the Wu, but in these photos it’s not flattering and she looks middle-heavy. I can’t say what bugs me about the Scott – it’s as if she ought to be making more of a statement but there’s something missing.

It’s these indefinable missing “somethings” that mark the difference between star power and average folks. Maybe the stylists involved need to take more vitamins or something.

  • guest2visits

Wish I liked Kate’s dress but I kinda hate it – the color, the see thru yellow, cheapy looking lace. ick.
    Doesn’t flatter her either.   I love-love Olivia’s L’Wren Scott outfit, the model’s version also.

  • Does Kate have a contract to wear all the ugly sheer-over-lace dresses from Jason Wu’s collection? That thing is probably worse than the previous one. Also, Olivia, You are not a senior citizen.
