Oh, so “almost” – she’s gorgeous in the color and the dress shape is cute, but the bare front panels are so like blue undergarments that it looks silly.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

I saw the thumbnail and thought…this should be good, royal blue on red heads is always stunning. THEN I SAW THE BLUE LACE PANELS. Now I’m crying.

  • bookish

The rose pattern makes it look like her nipples are crooked. I’m sorry, but that’s all I can see in the first photo.

    • bookish

I took a second look at the model and at least Jessica’s version is lined.

      • EditKitten

Funny, I see no boobs at all, as this dress makes her look flat as an eight-year-old.

        • Sobaika

I don’t know about flat (I see ample cleav) but it does broaden her shoulders and thicken her waist and a bunch of other things that I’m guessing wasn’t her intention.

          • EditKitten

True. Maybe they just got lost for me among all those things you mention. (The last pic doesn’t do any favors for her womanly figure, though.)

  • Sobaika

    Soclose. And yet so far.

    • Kristin McNamara

      butbutbut… EYEBROWS!

  • ChiliP

The color is absolutely beautiful on her, but I don’t think I’ll ever be a fan of sheer lace panels. And wow, this dress was really modified from the original version.

    • Lori

Her version is not only heavily modified, it took the wrong half of the original. The skirt could have been interesting paired with some other top, but those sheer lace panels mean that the top was never going to be a good idea, no matter what she paired it with.

      • gabbilevy

        Exactly.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ginny-Ellsworth/534496198 Ginny Ellsworth

Color is gorgeous on her but it looks like she forgot her blouse and not that the adaptation of the skirt is that good either. I like the original design better even if the model looks nekkid.

    Or actually, is nekkid.

    • MsOlympia

I like the original better too, but I think the peplum/pencil skirt is more seasonally appropriate.  The original looks flowy and beachy to me.

      • http://www.facebook.com/glenn.johnson.332 Glenn Johnson

True. That might be why I like it more.

  • teensmom99

Oh man oh man, how I hate the lace panels. Why why why would someone want to look like they are naked on top with a little lace?  And the skirt on the model is so much better than the one Ms. Jessica is wearing.

  • 3boysful

Oh, Jessica, why did you bag that interesting horizontal striped skirt in favor of a peplum? I applaud gold shoes with this, and that you didn’t default to nude, but these aren’t flattering–they are cutting into your ankles.  GREAT color on you, however, makeup and hair are good, and love what I can see of the earrings.

    • kimmeister

Yes, those are NOT her ankle straps (or anybody’s).

  • KSpence

    No.

  • LLuL

Hmmm…she looks better than usual, so I guess the dress is doing its job. I like the runway version better, although I can’t say whether or not it would have worked for her.

  • formerlyAnon

Dear god no. This is one of those “I thought it was awesome and it was perfectly ‘of the moment’ at the time – but 10 years later I cringe!” ensembles.

The shoes dumb this one further down by looking like “this season’s neutral high heel sandal” which persons without a ton of money convince themselves go with everything because they can’t afford any more shoes for at least 4 months.

  • Crystal

Well, the color is nice and her hair looks pretty, both things she has struggled with in the past. So I will ignore the weirdo lace panels.

  • decormaven

in her look and the one on the runway, the side seaming in the bodice seems pucker-y. Very distracting. I’d almost sign off on this if she had toenail polish. As fair as she is, and with the color of the strappy sandals, the foot needs balance with some color on the tips. Some color on the fingertips wouldn’t hurt, either. The dress is a gorgeous color on her.

  • eowyn_of_rohan

Half-assed peplum makes me hate it on principle.

  • Judy_J

The nude panels under the blue lace make my eyes twitch.

  • Introspective

love the color on her. hair and makeup are fab (especially since she can easily get those details wrong at times)

but that dress? WAY too labor intensive on the eye. i just cant.

    • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

       Good earrings too.

  • Clueless_Jock

The sheer look without nipples is a bit disconcerting.

  • BrooklynBomber

Man, that is one ugly dress.

  • IMNAngryLiberal

Beautiful color, beautiful girl, stunningly ugly dress.

  • Qitkat

What a stunning shade of blue on her!
But I liked the skirt pattern on the model better. And as others have said, sheer lined lace at the bodice is…uncomfortable to look at. Have we finally gotten used to nipples on the runway? so that looks normal, but missing nipples is just slightly, dare I say, perverted? Even though we never ever want to see them on the red carpet.

    • formerlyAnon

Honestly, unless I have a good shot at consensual sexual acts with you in the immediate future, I am not very interested in seeing anyone’s nipples in any setting.

      • Qitkat

        Touché

  • kschwarting

The dress is flat-out awful, not to mention unflattering on someone with even a hint of curves.  However, her face and hair look lovely.

  • PeggyOC

Way to keep the ugly part of the dress and to ditch the interesting part.

  • schadenfreudelicious

as stated by others, hair, makeup and dress color are great…however the incarnation she is wearing is nothing but awkward on every level..and those shoes are almost giving her cankles, most unflattering to what are surely tiny, slim ankles

  • procrastinatrice

I am on board with the sheer lace panel hate, but I disagree that the runway skirt is better than the peplum for Chastain. I think this is more flattering and polished. I can see the runway skirt version on Mila Kunis.  In any case, the color is perfect, and she looks good despite the it all.

  • Trisha26

At first glance it’s okay, she looks put together for once, but the more I look at it I hate that thin center panel that’s the same color as the skirt. And with the faux see-through lacy situation it looks like a slip with a skirt.

  • kcarb1025

Oh god, another awards season of shielding my eyes from Jessica Chastain’s lack of style or stylist………… :(

  • frannyprof

    Love that color on her.

  • PastryGoddess

I much prefer the original dress to this.

  • ShayShay

She has a cute figure and so could do so much better than this.

  • librarygrrl64

I kind of wish she had gone for a shortened and lined version of the original. Good color for her, though.

  • christinewithanx

Bedroom on top; business on the bottom. Woohoo.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=790818401 Laurie Landry

Well its a pretty color on her and fits perfectly.
However I think that the top portion looks much better with the shear stripped bottom of the gown as seen on the model.
It just make sense as an easy breezy dress rather than office lingerie.

  • Isana Leshchinskaya

gorgeous color but makes her look like she has no boobies. everything else is perfect, except the shoes. it’s december. maybe something close-toed and velvety?

  • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

It’s a pretty dress, and a great color for her. I like her simple, sleek hair, and the makeup isn’t too loud. Though I like the runway version of the dress better.

  • http://twitter.com/Lily1129 Lily

This color is amaaaaaaazing on her. I wish she would have gone with the runway dress, though. This one is too office-chic for me. Plus, it’s december. This dress is made for july. (yes, I know that hollywood has different seasons, but that doesn’t mean it still doesn’t irritate me)

  • susan6

Blue lace panels held up with painter’s tape.  That’s what I cannot unsee.

  • plzidgaf

    MESS

  • rloliveira

I think that the diagonal peplum is odd. I would have loved to have seen her in a version of the runway gown. The color is very pretty on her. I’m not sure I like the blue lace panels with the flesh-colored background.

  • TieDye64

Blue lace panels. Words I hope to erase from my brain.

  • LesYeuxHiboux

    It’s winter.

  • crash1212

My first impression was…NO! But then I actually looked at it…next thought – I like the version she’s wearing better than that thing on the model. Final thoughts – I don’t hate it. It’s a lovely color on her – she has great hair and make-up – not sold on the blue lace panel thingy, but it does add interest. So, I guess that’s a pretty resounding – MEH.

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

Why didn’t they keep the original skirt? The drape lines were much more flattering.

  • http://twitter.com/dollsaga Dollsaga

the front panels are done by an interior designer for her summertime bedroom window deco, soothing!  heehee

  • greyhoundgirl

Don’t like this dress at all–but, yes, the color is completely wonderful and almost makes up for rest.

  • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

The shoes are killing, I love them.  The dress is already dead.

  • Kathy_Marlow

Thank GOD she lined the panels, I wish she’d done it in the same blue as the rest of the dress.  It would have been in “WERQ” territory to me. LOVE the shoes.

  • l_c_ann

    What an unfortunate bodice.

  • MilaXX

I like what she did with the skirt, but not the top. Not feeling those shoes either. On the other hand, hair and makeup look great.

  • RoxieRider

What a pretty color, Naked Lady!

  • Zippypie

    Ew.  That is ugly.  Seriously.

  • jmorino08

Her head is beautiful! Her chest looks mannequin-esque with those nude panels on the bodice.

  • quiltrx

I’m not a big fan of overly-sheer, but I have to say the original is twice as interesting as the version she’s wearing, skirt-wise.

  • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

Best hair and makeup ever. Love the color. Can’t get past the faux-sheer bust. The first reaction to someones ensemble should not be ‘is that see through???’

  • Sara__B

The top reminds me of an old-fashioned foundation garment updated to a modern color. The most beautiful color in the world can’t save this ugly dress.

  • http://vhanna26.typepad.com Vera

Gorgeous color and fit, but I can’t with those dreadful lace panels. They take this into underwear mode.

  • frankystein123

How fitting, a hideous dress for a deplorable film.

  • captrenault

She’s born to play Feist in the biopic, isn’t she?

  • Larkin21

I understand the aversion to the lace panels but she looks stunning overall to me. Great hair and make-up, great color, great shape.

  • http://frockpaperscissors.blogspot.com/ kvlm

I don’t hate the dress but the shoes are terrible with raisins on it.

  • hellkell

The lace panels are TRAGIC. Either let the girls hang out or don’t, the lining is an evil compromise.

  • warnerave

    dress looks kinda weird..
