IN or OUT: Jessica Biel in Versace

Posted on December 06, 2012

Seven am editorial meeting, T Lo Bitchery International Headquarters:

T: Let’s do a post on Biel in the Versace.

Lo: Oh, that’s TOTALLY a “Girl, That’s Not Your Dress” post.

T: Really? I’m thinking exactly the opposite. That’s totally her dress.

Lo: Sigh.

And thus, we open it up to the kittens to decide.

Jessica Biel attends the premiere of ‘Playing For Keeps’ in New York City in a Versace dress paired with Lorraine Schwartz jewelry and Sergio Rossi sandals.

Versace Spring 2013 Collection/Model: Aymeline Valade

It’s definitely a bit much, but she’s the kind of gal who could do with a bit much every now and then. We don’t love the sleeve, the belt, or the neckline (which is TOTALLY a bit much), but Tom thinks the overall effect is really working for her and Lo thinks she can’t pull it off.

Vote Now!

IN! Gypsy Diva Realness!

OUT! Pure Hot Mess!

The Precious Unborn Fawns were mostly in agreement with us regarding Alicia Keys’ getup, voting it OUT.

  • …..everything about this look just kind of reads EW to me.

    • Jill_3

Agree. Doesn’t matter whether this is her dress or not. I HATE the dress. She looks like a slutty high priestess on the cover of a trashy romance novel. “Mystic Lady of the Wolves”, or something.

      •  That’s what I liked about it.

      • natalia osiatynska

Ha! Now that you mention it, yes. Still, it’s her dress totally, and she looks better that she has in a long time. It helps that she has put the booms away, no?

  • kschwarting

Well, on the plus side that fringed (shudder) belt thing highlights her waist, but there’s too much going on with the dress.  Plus, I have to add:  Girl, that is not your nude lip.

    • Carly Warnock

don’t know how someone hasn’t replied to this and said yes, AMEN, that nude lip is the devil incarnate on her. such a washout.

      • Nelliebelle1197

I really thought her face looked magnificent and I don’t even particularly like (or dislike) her.

  • Arabian Nights. OUT.

  • Dot

To be fair, I don’t really think this is *anyone’s* dress.

    • Jessi03

That was my thought exactly.  Although the material is quite pretty.

      • judybrowni

        If it’s anyone’s dress, it’s Ms. Biel’s.

        Normal humans need not apply.

    • Louise Bryan

Point made, but I think it’s Jessica’s dress more than anyone else I can imagine.  I think it looks exotic, and that it suits her.

    • calimon

I think it’s just a bit too costumey.

  • Sam Corbett

I loathe her, but that is definitely her dress. IN.

  • I’m just glad she doesn’t have the bangs.

    • Deb_Lynn

Agreed, but this serves as a strong reminder to NEVER hide my bangs THIS way.

  • Renee Bender

I like her make-up, but pretty much nothing else about this look.  Out.

  • Mismarker

At the least the bangs have been put away.  And 1999 called.  It wants its shoes back.  OUT.

    • terpsichory

No, it just called again. It wants that joke back.

      • Mismarker

  • Girllll….Photo #3 Biel is giving FACE.

  • You know what, I give her props for trying something different, but I just don’t like the dress so it’s gotta be an OUT from me. Although that belt is very pretty on its own.

  • mjude

    OUT…i do not like

  • clevRcat

It is the most interesting she has ever looked. In.

    • KateShouldBeWorking

I agree that it may be the most interesting she’s ever looked. However, my first thought was “I don’t know if she’s interesting enough for this dress.” She’s got the body for it but I don’t think she has the gravitas.

I’d like to see what Mila Jovovich would do with it.

      • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

I agree.  Whenever I see her now, I think “Girl, NOTHING Is Your Dress”.

      • DeborahJozayt

Even with the wind blowing, she’s got the gravitas of ‘waiting for a cab’.

  • If you fixed the neckline so it wasn’t teetering so close to porn star status and went with either one or the other of the sleeves I think she would have totally nailed it!

    • RebeccaKW

I agree.  I think the dress as is would be great for someone less busty.  Keira Knightley, etc.  On JB, it looks like she got the straps of her nightie messed up.  I do think the color looks good on her, and I like the shape of the skirt.

The hair is awful.  Yes, no bangs, but tucking them on the side like that isn’t working either.  I don’t mind the eye makeup, but she needs a better lip.  Going with Out here.

  • MarissaLG

    That’s a Kardashian’s halloween costume. OUT.

  • Tatiana Luján

She looks gorgeous without those bangs.

  • Introspective

what begins as fabulous starts to look like a wreq on second glance, including the mermaid hair, the huge sleeve and that ape shit bustline.

this = gypsy diva pure hot mess. as in out, but with a little o.

  • Jessica Rowe

agree with Tom. IN.  It’s the colour. It’s fab on her.

  • Kate4queen

    IN-did I just say that? 🙂

  • She needs to pull her damn hair back.  It looks ridiculous hanging in a hank down one side of the front of a dress with so much visual interest at the bodice and neckline.

  • puffalumps

I like the dress on the runway, and Biel had a good chance to pull it off due to her more athletic build…. but her torso looks too short and they’ve fudged up the torso plunge so now it looks sloppy and ill proportioned and just eh.

    •  I agree with you – the neckline alterations really mess it up for me.  It’s wrong and makes the dress look “tight” when it’s clearly suppose to evoke “loose”.  I don’t know if Biel can pull it off or not, the dress lost any hope it had through the alterations. Out out out. And that hair to the side is further disservice, weighing the whole side down.  No balance.  Ick I say ick.

  • OUT. but points for plastering the bangs down.

  • msdamselfly

In  NOT an easy dress to wear and yet, she’s doing it without looking costumey
    Love the silver eyeshadow

    • kimmeister

Her eye makeup is stunning.  Small in, although whoever sewed up the bodice slash did a jacked up job.

      • Mismarker

I just noticed that shitty sewing job in the close-up.  Wow.  That’s just bush league.

  • alyce1213

IN, enthusiastically.  I wouldn’t ordinarily like this dress, but she’s making it work; I think it’s perfect for her.
    And – no bangs!!

  • She looks better than the model does in the same dress, but it is still a bit odd.   It is the middle of the road, not a WERQ, but not a  “Girl, That’s Not Your Dress” disaster either.

  • OUT. Seriously. #teamlo

  • RocknRollmom

small “in”.  It is better on her than on the model.  The sleeve is just bizarre and doesn’t work with the rest of the dress.  I think the dress would look better without it.  The belt is odd, but very pretty in the details.  Rejoice that she is not wearing those hideous bangs.  But I have to agree with Tom, it works for her.  It is not a WERQ, but it is a in.

  • Watts

I like it. Especially given how close her body shape is to the runway model’s.  Might’ve wished for something different with the hair.

  • Look, she’s slammin’ in anything she wears. But I hate the dress. It’s overly complicated, the side slit across the boobs bothers me, and I just can’t with the belt. But hey, love it that her bangs are gone in this one!

  • filmcricket

The fabric is gorgeous and that colour is really great on her. But because it’s Versace they had to trash up the bodice. Sigh. A small in, since I think she’s making it work as well as anyone could. I dig the belt, actually, I think it saves the outfit.

  • Funkykatt

Ugh, Versace can really make a tacky dress.

  • I hate that dress. But I like her more for wearing it than I’ve ever liked her before.

    It’s still out, though.

  • Sarah Thomas

I think it comes with a Ricardo Montalban chestplate.

  • the_valkyrie

  • She looks sort of statuesque. Not a WERQ, but she looks better in it than the model, and it’s a good, visually interesting look on her. Love the colors for her. I vote IN.

  • I don’t know about the dress, but it should be a “Girl That’s My Ring” post.

  • AnnPopovic

Dress is good, hair’s tragic, belt takes the dress from Wow to Woah.

  • BazoDee

Oh -Ohh – tough call. I think without the sleeve it would work. She looks comfortable and confident though. And I like the risk with this. So IN!

  • Out in so very many ways. That insane swath of a neckline is hilarity, with boobies.

  • katieGTown

I need that belt for my belly dancing class.

  • MilaXX

small IN. I think the dress actually works on her. If she would fix that awful hair it would be a solid IN

  • LesYeuxHiboux

Wow, I didn’t know a dress could give someone charisma. Not a lot, but more than she usually has.

It was a smart choice to close up the bodice a little bit, to mitigate the unfortunate dangling boob exposure. The color is fantastic for her eyes, the delicate detail at one shoulder sets off her strong frame. If it’s not her dress, I don’t know whose it is! Never seen her look better. IN.

  • In, she has the boobs to wear that!  i hate the hair!

  • “Dingoes ate my dress bodice!” OUT. Show them the rock, dear.

  • chelwi

I’m just happy the bangs are out of her face. So IN.

  • B_C_J

What these photos show is just how incredibly beautiful Ms. Biel truly is.  Overall it’s a very sexy, almost risqué, outfit.  However, the sleeve is very distracting. I think that eliminating it would simplify the dress and make it a standout.  Overall it’s an IN

  • choco

IN. over the top but she looks gorgeous.

  • leslied11

Something about this just works for me. In. But do something with the hair…

  • jilly_d

in, lower case.  Would have been an IN with a pony tail and no sleeve.

  • EditKitten

I will always think Versace is trashy and gross, but I think this does work for her somehow.

  • IN!

  • sk8tfan

I can’t tell. I’m blinded by that glare from that searchlight she has on her left ring finger.

  • MGMcD

This is another one that could work for a willowy figure like Keira Knightley but Jessica’s figure is more athletic and this just makes her look like she’s hulking out of a caftan. Points for taking thos awful heavy bangs off your face, demerits for the corpse lip.

  • Sara__B

OUT. The gown is too costumey —  Gypsy? High Priestess? Star Wars lounge singer? — and I don’t like her bangs tucked in any better than I like them hanging down to the bridge of her nose.

  • Lilak

Yet another design that only someone with the proportions of a model (long legs, torso, and neck) can halfway pull off.  Shorten any of those elements and the gown – which I’m not crazy about to begin with – has no impact whatsoever.  Besides, this is a gown that needs to be in motion to have half a chance.

Also on board w/ previous comments re nude lip (no) and bangs-begone (yay).

  • Imasewsure

Kind of IN but just barely and I am blocking out that hideous belt which pushes it in to tackiland (Versace, tacky? Never! Ha). Color is beautiful on her, hate all one sleeve dresses as a rule but I don’t wholly hate this.

  • Out. She’s waaaay too whitebread for this. Send it to Shakira.

  • greyhoundgirl

Oh, yuck.  Out, Warrior Princess, out.

  • Lilithcat

    Haren hooker.

OUT!  (As would be anyone wearing that “dress”.)

  • Tapetum

I don’t care much for the dress, but I have to give her an IN. She looks as fabulous in it as anyone can. The color is lovely, it does nice things for her figure, and the general style suits her. If only it didn’t look like a costume from an Arabian Nights movie – right after the attempted rape scene, when half her dress has been torn off in convenient ways.

  • formerlyAnon

Can I disqualify myself? Because she’s one neo-Grecian updo from being Captain Kirk’s Alien Babe Lay No. 324 in this.

Which means that while I grudgingly admit she pulls it off, there is no way this look can be in on anyone.

  • OUT. This dress belongs to Helen of Troy. Poor Jessica just isn’t pulling it off.

  • TieDye64

It’s a dramatic look and the color is great on her, but it’s also rather tacky. OUT.

  • not her dress

  • In.  I love the dress but hate the shoes

  • justineyy

I don’t like the dress much but I think it works on her…I would say IN except THAT HAIR! Is she against hair cuts? or even ponytails? Do SOMETHING with it. And no, a center part and putting it over one shoulder does not count as something. OUT.

  • thecitysleeps

Can I just go with this is nobody’s dress and be done with it?

  • In_Stitches

I’m gonna go with that’s nobody’s dress: OUT.

  • Who care about the dress! Before I even opened the picture or could see anything I exclaimed “Look at her beautiful face” …..the bangs are not hiding it any longer and I hope she permanently gets rid of them soon.

  • shopgirl716

Don’t like the dress on the model or the actress.  I have no idea how you would do anything besides stand in front of a camera – can’t really sit without your boob showing and that sleeve would totally drag through an food you might attempt at dinner.  I realize no one cares about function in their red carpet clothes, but this is really pushing the envelope.  Plus it’s kind of ugly.

  • Trisha26

    Out. It’s not anyone’s dress.

  • NOOOOOOOO. It’s over-designed by 1000%.

  • This is what my husband calls “dressing for open heart surgery”. From the waist down I love it, but the top is just too much. And she’s flashing the ring again, which is irritating.

    • formerlyAnon

Your husband is an amusing guy.

  • MissAmynae

I should hate this, but dayum if she doesn’t look fantastic. NO BANGS!!!!!!!  Her skin is so pretty, and good gravy that body is made for Versace.  IN.

to quote Indiana Jones movie- “and i even like the color.”

  • SpillinTea

Call me crazy, but I like it. She usually comes off so bland that for once, you can tell shes trying to serve some FIERCE in her own way. Its an IN for me. Werk them shoulders, hunty!

  • SewingSiren

The neckline is disturbing (in a Ken doll kind of way).

    • BrooklynBomber

      ‘Splain, Lucy!

      • SewingSiren

In pictures #4 and #6 especially, she looks like she has no left breast, just a little indentation where it should be.

        • BrooklynBomber

Oh, I get it. Too funny!

  • I am so glad just to see her in something that isn’t a Jessica McClintock knock off. I appreciate the color, and the fact that it has some sex appeal. Its definitely weird, but I give her props for trying something daring, for once. It’s not really terrible, so I give it a lukewarm in.

  • IN – She’s rocking the wispy goddess look.

  • Elizabeth Silverstein

I think she looks better than she’s looked in a long while, but I think the credit there goes to the lack of hideous booms. I like the slashed neck/boob line and I actually like the belt and the color is nice, but I don’t like the black shoes or the goofy sleeve. But she looks pretty good, so I’ll go with a less than overwhelming IN.

  • ralish

In, but that’s grading on a curve. She looks so much better without those bangs, and she looks amazing in 3/4 of that dress. Love the material and color on her. Hate the sleeve/neckline, hate the shoes (and toe nail polish!) and I wish desperately that she’d try a lipstick color in, well, any color at all.

  • In.  It’s an editorial kind of dress and I think she’s working it.  Call me tacky but I’d have liked a gold sandal with it.

  • tallgirl1204

the color is fabulous.  The rest of the dress is working for her, even though it’s a little odd.  In.

  • BrooklynBomber

Split, like Alicia Keys, though whereas AK’s split was horizontal, this one’s vertical:

Her right side IN (or in enough not to be out)
    Her left side OUT

  • captrenault

Sideboob and underboob.  I should be all for this, but — yecch.

  • Jacqueline Wessel

For reasons I’m having trouble articulating, I’m going to say IN.

  • bertkeeter

Oddly…the most unflattering part of this dress is that thing on her waist…makes her look so thick n short! Not loving much about anything really!

  • G

I hate the dress.  And seeing her feet sticking out in those sandals doesn’t help matters.

  • Mazenderan

Out.  Looks like a dress that could look gorgeous as a costume in some fantasy movie – but just looks odd in real life.  Also – ugly shoes.

  • f_yeah_marie

Out…but then again her whole existence is an out to me.

  • PeggyOC

If the entire top was like the right side, this would be an in, because it’s the right shape for her body.  But it’s just too much going on.  And the shoes are terible.  Out.

  • Tamara Hogan

    I don’t think that’s ANYONE’S dress.

  • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

You know a dress is all wrong when it appears to be giving you camel toe.  Check out the model in the second picture.

  • PrunellaV

That’s not her dress. That’s Boadicea’s dress. OUT.

  • Miss_Led

    Hot (ripped) mess.

  • rissa42210

I don’t like to say it, but I have to say that this is an IN.  The sleeve KILLS me, her hair needs help, and girl is a little over-painted, but I can’t say that it doesn’t look nice and she’s made a slashed dress as tasteful as possible.

  • Maybe this could work if she were walking on a beach at sunset

  • bluefish

Out without a doubt.  She’s such a beautiful woman but never seems to get it right in evening wear.  Hideous dress.

  • belfebe

It would have worked great on her in a magazine shoot.  That’s an editorial dress.  In the red carpet, not so much.  And I hate the hair.

  • Monday1900

Oh, not even close!  Hot mess for sure!  Also, yes, we see your ring Jessica.

  • rloliveira

    That’s an awful dress. out.

  • Sarah Tyrchniewicz

Gotta go with IN on this. I love this color on her. I do think it would look better without the sleeve. Maybe it would look better if it didn’t have that shoulder at all (not sure if it would stay up thought). I think the neckline is interesting and she can pull it off.

  • Insidiously

    Nooooo way.

Miss Jessica needs to stick to simple and casual…

She tries these high fashion things and ends up looking like a bad villian from some crazy anime

  • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

how about IN: Pure Hot Mess.

  • VioletFem

IN. The overall affect is quite stunning. Not crazy about that billowing sleeve and that neckline is a bit much. I also think she would have benefited from having a little more color on her lips.

  • ringthing

Pure hot mess, and while I’m glad the booms are retired her hair still looks crappy. OUT.

  • allj

Totally her dress. No other woman could even make me consider this look. IN

  • ashtangajunkie

Do not like at all. And the dress is bad too! Out.

  • Monabel

I would swear out a warrant on that dress.

  • leave_Blake_alone

Ok, this is OUT, but a marked improvement for her. It’s got interest, even if it is totally batshit, and the bangs are (temporarily) gone! Getting there, girl!

    • leave_Blake_alone

Also: I’m somehow super into the belt. Don’t know why, I just am.

  • deliadee

I like the color, skirt and belt.  Neckline and sleeve not at all.  Out.

  • mariavii

Egads…whoever tailored the plunge to be less plunge-y needs to have their sewing kit taken away.  What sloppy work on what is, no doubt, a very expensive dress.

  • LeifBallard

I totally love the look except i would pair it with a different belt

  • Unkempt

That’s the Statue of Liberty’s girls gone wild dress.

  • j_anson

I… kinda love this, so I have to say IN. I’m pretty sure that’s not a sign of good taste on my part though.

  • teensmom99

Squeaks by as an IN.  Overthought and weird but she looks striking.  I hate to choose between T or Lo, but I’m with T here–it’s her dress and no one elses.

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

In. She needs fierce dresses in muted colors to bring out the exotic in her.

  • ojosazules

    Terrible dress. Really terrible. Out.

  • Jangle57

Ewwww, yuck; hate the dress and no I don’t think she’s pulling it off.  I don’t think this is anyone’s dress; you can use this to polish the car you washed with Alicia Keys’ blouse.

  • This does NOT work. Her make-up is great, the color is beautiful on her but this dress requires someone with personality and that, Miss Biel does not possess. OUT.

  • I feel like she’s workin’ it, but that sleeve pushes the dress from quirky to ugly. When I can’t see it, I love it. When I can see it, I hate it. But I’ll vote IN for the fact she’s positioning herself so photos are largely capturing the non-ugly half.

  • My first impression was, That is No One’s Dress, but this is the best she’s looked in ages! The horrid bangs are gone. She’s not dressed like Bea Arthur. I don’t love the chest cut outs, but her breasts are the perfect size in that they make themselves known, but don’t look slutty. I have to give it an In.

  • procrastinatrice

Are you kidding me? I am in love! What a beautiful fabric, and how stunning she looks in it! IN, IN, IN!

  • Out

  • CeeQ

    Holy cats. OUT.

  • Ugh. It’s not her dress, and I’m hard pressed to think of WHOSE dress it could be. OUT.

  • kaycem

  • MissMariRose

    OUT. That’s not anybody’s dress.

  • I’m with Lo, out

  • Kristy Evans

OUT. I can’t see anything past how gaudily oversized that ring is.

  • elemspbee

In. I think she’s holding up the dress in all the right places. She’s making the dress more interesting than it is. that’s talent!

  • Jessica O’Connell

I think it’s just barely IN, but mostly because, for once, her hair, make up, and jewelery are all working for her. Really hate the amount of sternum we’re seeing though.

  • annrr

IN love the color and the belt.

  • knittermom

In. Not a WERQ “In”, but interesting and intriguing, not to mention sexy and more glamorous than she usually manages.

  • Renaissance_Man_ATL

  • crash1212

IN. Of course, I’d vote IN just because she finally ditched the bangs! But, I also like the overall look. The sum is great than its parts.

  • stubbornthoughts

That top half is confusing and looks incredibly uncomfortable. I’d feel choked if I were her. The silhouette without the sleeve, however, is gorgeous, as is the color on her.

But my right eye won’t stop twitching over the top half. Out.

    She’s so close!

  • I rarely think a dress looks better on the model (this straight BK likes it when a woman looks healthy and happy and like she’s seen a cheeseburger this decade), but this is one of those cases.

  • hellllllll NO.  OUT.

  • The detail on the belt is gorgeous. The rest can be burned. Twice.

  • schadenfreudelicious

i should hate it but for some odd reason i dont, perhaps i am just overjoyed that the hideous bangs are gone…

  • BeeBeauNYC

Seriously? We’re voting on this outfit? Such an OUT.

  • I think it’s mind-blowing that a living human can make that dress work, but Biel really is doing it. IN.

  • TLJezebel

Gorgeous color.  Love the belt.  One sleeve treatment or the other…not both.

and its not just the tacky-ass boob-slit. its just a really bad dress full-stop.

  • Oh, HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!  She looks like she ran into Richard Parker on the way in from the parking lot!  HAHAHA!!!  This dress?  In real life?  Nooooo-OUT!

  • deathandthestrawberry

Well, she certainly has the waist for the dress, but I’m not loving any of it. OUT.

  • E D

Take off the sleeve, and I’m OK with it.

  • i think she’s actually pulling it off! in!

  • tereliz

Eh. It’d look better on Kate Beckinsale… 😉

  • I just feel like the dress is wearing her instead of the other way around. Out.

  • I love the color on her and yay, no bangs, but this dress is fugly.

  • TheLaurenJean

    IN! Girl is rockin it.

  • bookish

OUT. I just really, really don’t like that dress at all. And the belt gorgeous, but it looks like it belongs with a completely different dress.

  • Aly Light

  • Kathleen B

    IN she looks fab

  • Jessica Biel looks amazing. And it’s an “IN” simply because I never, EVER thought I would type the previous sentence.

  • kelsita421

i don’t know what this is. OUT.

  • snarkykitten

oh dear lord. They got Anya to design a dress for Versace.

  • newtonGOTbeaned

She does look like a slutty high priestess! I actually think it’s really working for her. Maybe her true calling was to be the High Villainesse in Legend of the Seeker. I bet they would bring it back if she agreed to be in it. IN.

  • Kirsten Henry

  • jw_ny

It’s an ugly and odd dress for sure, and she is close to pulling it off, but really the dress is wearing her (and almost choking her too ;))  It’s all about the dress here…I barely looked at her face, except for the close up shots.

  • In, for sure.

  • ThaliaMenninger

Lo wins this round. HOT MESS.

  • altalinda

Marginal in.  She’s making it work, despite the one-sleeve, which just looks wrong.

  • joancarol

For me, it’s the first time she looks beautiful. She usually creeps me out for some reason.

  • Pure hot mess.  This is a Ph.D. level dress, and girlfriend maybe has an associate’s degree.  Sorry T, I’m usually on your side, but I’m calling this an OUT.

  • This really illustrates the lengths she has to go in order to look interesting.  But I’ll give her an IN based on improved hair and makeup.

  • if both shoulder details  had been like the one on her right side, it would have been lovely and statuesque.

  • nelybel

yes.  I love the color on her and even though it shouldn’t…that belt is really working with that dress.

  • OUT! She does not possess the proper, um, personality, to wear that dress. That is to say she does not have enough of one.

  • samo_samo

Out…the dress is too weird and unflattering. It does nothing for her.

  • PaulaBerman

Oh, such a hot mess. OUT.

  • marilyn

Out.  It is a slutty WonderWoman outfit.

  • Rachel Shoaf

  • Sara Hoverstad

    So in.

  • Trang Nguyen

Out. The asymmetrical plunging neckline and the sleeve is odd. It seems a little Halloweenie/costumey.

  • That neckline is ridiculous but I think she’s pulling it off. This is her “I’m a babe with a hot bod” persona which fits her so much better than the pink demure high-fashion crap she was trying to pull off earlier this year at the Total Recall premieres.

Plus she gets 100 points for pulling her bangs off her face.

  • Isana Leshchinskaya

i think she looks fabulous, particularly b/c of that whole post-wedding glow of happiness she’s got going. it’s making her much prettier than i ever thought she could be.

  • sockandaphone

it’s a frankendress. a+ for effort, but OUT.

  • criticalmaas

IN. hair is awful but the dress is kind of amazing. makeup is meh. seems like the stylist left the dress to carry the rest…

  • L.

She gets an IN from me just for losing the bangs.  Complicated neckline, tho…

  • sleepycat

Not quite thinking it works, OUT

  • That seam at the beltline looks awful. If she was going to go for it, she should have just WENT FOR IT.   Out, please.

  • Dhammadina

I think it’s from The Prince of Persia. Better than the film for sure. It moves great. In.

  • frannyprof

Out. Not pulling it off. Sharon Stone would KILL this look.

  • warontara

Even in a very interesting dress, she still bores me. Out.

  • joything

You know how, when Ian McKellan or Judi Dench or Peter O’Toole shoots off a passage from Shakespeare onstage, there’s a divine electric realness to the strangeness of anyone talking like that? and your talented aunt giving the same reading all she’s got at the holiday dinner table wins a smile from you, but it just ain’t the same?

That’s the difference between the runway and the red carpet, 99% of the time, in my opinionated opinion.

This dress is fiercely strange on the runway, and out of context on the RC. Despite Jessica Biel being abnormally gorgeous.

  • shanteIstay

This is really awful. This belong with Fabio on the cover of a trashy love novel

  • LambeeBaby

Out. Superhero with an arm injury

  • MarinaCat

I have to go with T on this one. And I’ll say it again: she looks a million times better without bangs.

  • I sort of like this. It’s a really interesting dress, and I love the color. I give her an in.

  • LuluBI

  • Bad dress–good fit. OUT.

  • barbarienne

I don’t like that one sleeve, and I wish the slash across the front was a little less. Right now I’m thinking one good breeze and we have a wardrobe malfunction.

I rather love the belt/sash/whatever. Not sure why. It just kind of goes well with the flowy dress, pulling it all together both literally and figuratively.

I have a bit of a straight-girl crush on Jessica B, so I’m with Tom on this one. IN.

  • CatherineRhodes

    Team LO: OUT!!!!!!!

  • Myra C

The color is pretty on her. I like her makeup a lot. But it’s an OUT.

However there’s a more pressing question at hand. How do they get the dress to stay on her boobs??!! Don’t say double-stick tape, caus I won’t believe it!

  • Allison Woods

    That is no woman’s dress.

  • Daenyx

I kind of love it.  Yes, the neckline is weird, but the proportions work for her and the color is perfect.  IN.

  • OUT! if it had of been sleeveless and she didn’t have that weird plastered down central folded part THING, then it would’ve been a knockout.

  • unbornfawn

OUT. I’m with Lo on this one.

Incredibly flattering to her figure. Totally her dress – even if there may not be a great level of taste going on here. Totally not her hair, though. Still, IN.

  • Love it. I love it so much.

  • Francie Worley

It works because it’s tacky and she’s tacky. Plus, no bangs and the color is great on her.

  • SatelliteAlice

I think she is a bit too busty to wear this but even if she we an A cup it would be a difficult dress to wear.  Out but a valiant effort.

  • ankali

OUT. She looks better in it than the model, but when “better” means “less whorish” that’s not saying much. The dress is absurd.

  • Jillaine13

Out.  It looks like a dress of two seasons, half summer half fall.  She looks nice otherwise, not sure about the center part with such a narrow forehead but at least the bangs are on hiatus.

  • In. I think she’s an in.

  • H2olovngrl

I like it. Fits her beautifully. I think sh has never looked better.

  • IN

  • Not a fan Jessica Biel, but the dress is sort of half-and-half. The fabric’s quite pretty with a painterly, undulating feel to it. The cut of the dress? It’s just all right. The neckline? Rather awkward. It’s fine she wore a more modest version of the neckline (it’s a lot more flattering than the one in the original design, but… the boob-baring was mitigated by a patched up seam that looks like scar tissue). The belt’s too ostentatious.

  • BeaDee

I don’t love the dress, but I’m just so happy the bangs are gone. Now if we can get Swifty to do the same…

  • TSkot

    Looks ridiculous: OUT

  • OUT. Hate this. But no bangs is good!

  • OUT. This is probably no one’s dress.

  • DCSheehan

    Out. It’s no one’s dress.

  • KatrinaAtienza

IN. She has the bod for it, and thank God those booms have been put away. I agree that it’s too busy / Adult Awards adjacent, but for her? Kinda a step in the right direction.

  • Emily Roach

Totally in!!! It’s nuts, and I wouldn’t ever have thought she’d be the one to pull off something like this, but…. this makes me happy. And turned on (which is DEFINITELY not something I’ve ever been inspired to feel from her!).

  • demidaemon

Um, that neckline is f-ed up. And the belt is tacky and hideous. OUT.

  • It’s like I hate everything she’s wearing, but she looks amazing in it. This is definitely a dissonant moment.

  •  Hopefully it’s not too late to chime in but I’m with Lorenzo, it is NOT her dress, or makeup, or hairstyle.

I guess that makes it an OUT.

  • librarygrrl64

I don’t think this should be ANYONE’S dress. But, then again, I feel about Versace the way many around here feel about Stella McCartney, so….. 😉

However, I do think she pulls it off as well as anyone could.

  • Christa Hylton

IN. I love it. But mostly, IT’S SO FANTASTIC TO SEE HER FOREHEAD.

  • Poor girl, OUT!

  • trisker

Out.  That’s Nobody’s dress.  It’s WAY too weird.

  • RzYoung

Hmm, I sort of thought I liked it when I first saw it – but when comparing it to the catwalk version I now can’t stop looking at the horrid stitch up job they did to make the slit smaller. It’s one step up from just sticking a safety pin in it!

  • neofashionista

I think she looks great and so so so so so much better when she gets rid of her doggy bangs who ever told her they look good is NOT her friend

  •  Out. I can’t stop looking at how poorly the neckline was altered near the waistline to make it a little more modest.

  • Like the look, like the dress, like that she got rid of the bangs.  Don’t like the treatment at the waist.

  • Out. The top is a mess. It looks like they had to take it in for her right at the waist and didn’t do a clean job. And, it looks like the two sides (strappy and blousy) are fighting with each other.
    Her make up looks good.

  • MightyMarshal

Pack it up, ship it off to JLo.

    • ShayShay

Yes JLo is the person who could make this dress shine.

I would totally love this dress if it didn’t have the ridiculous “Look at my tits! They don”t sag AT ALL!) neckline.  The fabric is pretty, I like the waist detail, love the shape.  Just no to the “tit slash”…..

    • TRSTL

My neice (enjoying new motherhood) is totally jealous of the dress.  “Breast feeding would be soooo easy in that!!”

  • JimMcC

IN. She’s making it work, even though it could be vulgar.

  • Whoa. It is so very over the top, and her usual manner of dressing annoys the ever loving whatever out of me, but I find this really arresting. The over one shoulder hair even works for once. IN.

  • mmc2315

    Oh.  Uh, no.  OUT.

  • Verascity

Nope. Gorgeous and striking on the model, hate it on her. OUT.

  • It’s really close, but marginally OUT.  Her hair and also body language are not living up to the regal attitude of the dress.

  • Her bangs aren’t hanging in her eyes, so as far as I’m concerned, it’s an IN.

  • Taken in parts, not so much.  But, when I saw her in the dress.  I said wow.  It works for her.  She has the figure for it.  It just works.

    So IN!

  • My real problem is that whoever altered that neckline did a sloppy job. But overall she squeaks an IN.

    • janierainie

Really! They should be fired from their sewing job! Maybe it was Justin in the limo on the way to the event.

  • afabulous50

OUT – no further comment necessary.

  • amaranth16

The belt offends my senses, but I sort of love the neckline and the sleeve on her, and the color is staggeringly beautiful. 2 out of 3 ain’t bad. In.

  • guest2visits

A couple of pics are very pretty, but most angles are not. The dress could be beautiful with the missing arm, or just the removal
of both. I love the belt – I think it makes it.   The shoes don’t work for me either. Mostly an out, for this dress.

  • EEKstl

IN, shockingly.  It’s a cray cray dress but she is totally pulling it off.

  • ccm800

  • OUT.

It doesn’t look as good without the backdrop of hot color. Also, she messed it up in the styling: hair should have been fanned out behind her (like the runway hairstyle), not ‘mermaided’ over her one shoulder. Also, in a dress this excessive, her black single-strap sandals look cheap and minimalist  compared to the dress. If it had been left to me, I’d’ve pulled out the tacky, gold-bottom stripper heels, given her bigger gold earrings (I thought that one visible earring was just a highlight in her hair), and slapped a gold bangle bracelet on the bare arm. Also, GOLD.

  • ShayShay

No.  The dress is wearing her; she’s not wearing the dress.  She looks stiff and the smile is forced.  Her shoes are NOT the business.  The only positive going on here is that she tucked her hideous bangs behind her ears.  Bravo on that!

  • “classy” AVN awards night dress

  • Kathleen Tripodi

Out.  Neckline is overly complicated and looks like it’s strangling her.

  • Judih1

    OUT – Hot mess indeed!

  • Zippypie

When I can see someone’s Nippits through the bodice, OUT!  Tacky.

  • Usually when you two disagree, I tend to agree with Tom, but not this time. This is no one’s dress, too costumey. OUT.

  • Joanie Hunt

I kind of like it on her. But, I can’t tell if the dress was poorly altered to fit her or if the sewing was just awful. Too much puckering on the hip and the chest…

  • IN. I’d take her in this gypsy diva dress over any of the other twee princess fairy fashion dresses she’s been trying to pull off for months.

  • subwaycars

I thought I was going to hate this judging by the thumbnail. Turns out I actually really kinda love it.

  • Samantha Irene

In – her hair and make up actually look good to me here (which I feel never happens with her)- and I think the dress could really work if she lost the sleeve and had that side be strappy as well. But that’s just me.

  • OUT!

    And EWWW!

  • Diana Martinez

I don’t really like the dress, but I think she’s pulling it off pretty damn well.

  • kikisayshi

IN, if not just for the fact that she nixed the bangs! But the dress is pretty fab.

  • Ew, NO to all of it. An emphatic OUT.

  • I could do without the sleeve, but it is DEFINITELY her dress.  Very cool.  IN.

  • Carly Warnock

in. she def pulls off that strong, goddess dress with the neckline/arm fru-frah. so glad she ditched the bangs for the night! so sick of those covering up her gorgeousness.

  • jaxthehairstylist

I hate to say it, but she looks stunning. I hate her and her perfect life and her perfect body and her perfect face. If you want to know how I really feel, swap out “I wish I had” for the first 4 words of the second sentence of this post.

  • I think this is the best I’ve ever seen her look. NO BOOMS!! I don’t really like the dress, but she’s making it work somehow. IN

  • KSpence

I think I love it. In.

  • curiouserandcuriousest

I think it’s an IN, but not with fireworks. I find her a bit dull, but I can’t deny she looks pretty spectacular here.
