Emma Stone in Los Angeles

Posted on December 12, 2012

Hey, girl! Love your bag! Love your shoes!

Sometimes, we wish we could sashay down the street, yelling that out to passersby. We suffer from a surfeit of dignity, however. But who knows? Maybe we’ll throw caution to the wind some day.

Emma Stone arrives at LAX carrying a Burberry bag.

Burberry ‘Orchard’ Bag

She does SO much better with casual wear, doesn’t she? She’s not quite a red carpet disaster. We’ve seen her in plenty of great dresses and even a couple great gowns. But she really shines when she’s dressed down. We pretty much love everything she’s got going on here.

Hmphh. She’ll always be better as a redhead. The shoes are pretty great.

      • lehen

agree!  i so wish she’d go back to red.

      • Kristin McNamara

They are great shoes. And you know, I think those are the “female version” of those shiny silver shoes that Ewan (was it?) was featured on here wearing the other day. Another reader linked to them in the comments.

      • bellafigura1

She looks very Michelle Williams here.

      • Cousin_Rose

I think they are Born Ibis in Panna Cotta Metallic or something very similar. Can’t afford the bag but I can afford the shoes :)

    • Katie Conner Bennett

      I seriously covet that bag.

      • meowing

wow, googled it:  $1595.  While I like the bag, I just couldn’t: the rest of my wardrobe (not to mention my life) would look poor in comparison.

        • Tamara Hogan

I console myself with the certain knowledge that the bag’s drop is WAY too short for me.

    • Emily Giovanni

I must suffer from a lack of dignity because I frequently say stuff like that to random people on the street. Esp when I’ve had a couple of drinks.

      • mariavii

I am glad you do!  Once or twice I have had a random stranger say something like “Hey! Great Shoes!” and it seriously made my entire day better.

        • kimmeister

It happens to me on a fairly regular basis, but the last time it happened, I looked up to see that the woman who complimented me was dressed like a lumberjack.  It sort of negated the compliment.  :-

        • lalagigi

I had a fabulous gay flight attendant compliment my shoes as I boarded his flight. Not only that, he also wrote me a lovely note and gave me an entire box of cookies on the flight. I saved his note and will never forget that compliment as long as I live. (BTW, they were Donald Pliner pony hair, leopard-print cowboy boots with alligator print tips.)

      • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

Me too. Although it’s usually more of a walk up and say it rather than yell across the street. But I love what she is wearing and I also love that she looks exhausted like a normal person.

        • meowing

Yup, I’ve asked women “who are you wearing” kind of questions or asked where they got their hair done…I hope it’s taken as a great compiment.

      • http://profiles.google.com/awilsongirl Amy Wilson

I actually had someone stop me last week to compliment my boots. Then she followed it up with, “actually you look cool as hell from head to toe.” It made me feel great so everyone should ditch their dignity more often. ;)

        • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

It was after somebody did it to me that I started doing it. It really does feel good!

      • Natalie Bryan

The only new year’s resolution I’ve ever kept. If I like someone’s hair/dress/whatever, I tell them. I’m super shy, so it’s quite a ways out of my comfort zone, but almost every time, they’ve smiled. It makes me feel good that I’ve made someone smile, and getting a compliment, I hope, makes them feel good, too.

      • makeityourself

I do it too.  What the hey, why not?  When somebody compliments me in passing it makes my day, so I now do the same.  “Great tie; gorgeous coat; fantastic bag.”  People who put effort into their look always seem to appreciate it.

    • lovelyivy

I want that bag in the WORST way. Someone counsel me through my desire to eat ramen for a month so i can afford this gross indulgence!

      • StellaZafella

It would only be a “gross” indulgence if the bag weren’t so great…

        GO FOR IT!

        • http://twitter.com/sebwfu Shannon Beamer

Amen.  It is the perfect shape, size, and color.  I love you, Burberry bag.  And I NEVER say that about Burberry’s bags.

      • meowing

$1595 buys a whole lot of ramen.

        • lovelyivy

Yeah it really does. Thing is I CAN afford this and i want it, but the idea sort of shocks me. I don’t know if buying such an expensive purse would feel good.

          • StellaZafella

The last time I had a serious “want” like this I bought the item, wrapped it and addressed it to myself and opened it on Christmas day…as a gift to me from me.

I don’t know why, really, but it worked for me. I still cherish the item, but the “I really shouldn’t have” feeling doesn’t come up like it would have if I just bought it as an impulse and tried to tell myself: “I deserve this”.

      • julnyes

If eating ramen for a month will put you in a position to actually afford this bag I say go for it.

    • http://twitter.com/watchinginkdry Krysta

I WANT THOSE SHOES.  Metallic without being tinfoil-looking. . . gah. Perfect.

    • FrayedMachine

Love all of this. Poor girl really looks exhausted though.

    • http://profiles.google.com/adj.blair Adriana Blair

The way I see it Emma Stone and Taylor Swift have very similar styles but Emma just pulls it off way better because she’s funny and likable  and she switches it up just enough that it doesn’t get so predictably saccharine.

      • Sobaika

They both favor modest and classic looks on the street, but I wouldn’t call their style the same. Especially not on the red carpet. Emma’s worn some Lanvin and more experimental pieces, and we have yet to see her show up in a doily.

        • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

Agreed. Emma Stone also wears a wider colour palette.

      • http://twitter.com/FuLinlin FuLinlin

I think they might wear some of the same pieces, but they combine them very differently. I like some of Taylor Swift pieces, but she just overdos its, while Emma combines them in a cool-casual way. Also, Emma never wears those ultra-girly/princessey stuff Taylor loves.

      • warontara

The biggest difference for me is that Emma doesn’t seem to be working a contrived marketing scheme with her look. I know everyone has publicists and an “image” and etc. but as long as the celeb manages to at least convince me that they’re genuine, it doesn’t bother me. I don’t like seeing the Man Behind the Curtain.

        • RebeccaKW

I agree with you there.  Emma seems to find a way to make some more twee-leaning clothing look more grown up.  And it seems natural, more of a ‘oh, I like this cardigan, I’ll throw it on’ and less checking off boxes.

I get the same feeling from Michelle Williams.  She likes the twee-inspired stuff, but does seem to be able to keep it from getting too saccharine.  Not always, but more hits than misses.

    • NC_Meg

If I could raid any celeb’s closet, aside from Cathy Cambridge (and really, I’m just after her coats. I have no use for gowns), it’d be Emma’s. I always love her casual looks.

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

I yell that out at passersby, but living in NY for the greater part of a decade has diminished many feelings of shame – I also yell at people for being assholes in the subway systems.
      I covet this outfit.

    • Maigan Hulme

did she borrow Ewan McGregor’s shoes?

      • http://twitter.com/ajhan Angie J. Han

And if so, where can I get in line to borrow them next?

    • http://www.facebook.com/RocketStarling Ashley Ellen Wilson

I LURVE that black bag she’s carrying.

    • MarissaLG

I asked his same question in another thread, but I’m not sure if anyone saw it so:

Here’s a question that the other BK’s might not have the answer to but I’m kind of curious- When we see these starlets carrying the Most Expensive New Bag while running errands, or at the airport, is it just because they get sent all these bags and the designers just hope they’ll use them and the paparazzi will catch it? Or are these orchestrated PR events, and Emma and her publicist/stylist/assistant know she is scheduled to wear this specific bag on this date at the airport, and was given the bag just for the event and she has to give it back when she’s done? Is it sometimes both? Neither?

      • lbl

Former, in my opinion. I’m sure there are some stupid, lower-tier stars who do orchestrate stuff like this, but I’d say generally it’s just stuff they’re sent. And in this situation, she’s worn this bag before.

        • MarissaLG

          Thanks!

    • crash1212

Bag and shoes = WANT. Also, she looks cute.

    • http://twitter.com/juliafoxtrot Julia Fox

WOAH, any idea what shoes they are? And if they are anywhere near my budget? HA.

    • mozzer0906

I wish I was rolling in money just so I could get all of the great handbags.

    • 3boysful

I would love it if I were ever sporting something so great that TLo gave me a shout-out!

      • Judy_J

        Me, too!

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_U5LTVYHX32MGMMXR33G7TOXVR4 Magdalena Monzerrat Ontiveros

For a moment I thought she was Taylor..

    • filmcricket

Oh God, Burberry bags, I want so many of them. I don’t need to pay rent, right?

      • BrooklynBomber

Not if you have enough bags.

    • Tatiana Luján

I love the handbag and the pants, but not the two of them together.
It seems as if her hairdresser found a good shade of blonde for her.

    • Judy_J

Nicely put together travelling ensemble.  Looks comfortable, too.

    • RocknRollmom

I haven’t ever shouted it across the street, but I regularly tell people if I like their shoes, bags, etc.  Even men and their suits (rare).  We all want to be told we look good or have accessorized appropriately.  I have had it happen to me a couple of times.  When coming from a stranger (not weird or creepy but appreciative of a nice look), it can really make someone’s day.  And yes, I am not a native New Yorker and was raised in the midwest even if I don’t live there now.

      • 3boysful

         I do the same.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000905542323 Rhonda Shore

      LOVE/LOVE those shoes!!!

    • susan6

When I saw Ewen McGregor’s WERQ post (yesterday?), I said of his silver shoes, “somebody make a pair of those for women, I want them now.”  Merry Christmas to me!

    • Meredith Walsh

I had a lady on the el today tell me she liked my scarf. Made my day. I would die of happiness if that came from one of you two. Think of how many people you could kill!

    • http://vhanna26.typepad.com Vera

      Well put together.

    • http://www.tumblr.com/tumblelog/lastbutnotleast janinedm

My favorite part? She’s carrying the bag like she paid for it instead of doing the “wrist perch.”

    • Krafty_L

I think Cole Haan has a version of this shoe, the Skylar Oxford, in a color called “Argento Reflective” that is sort of a dull metallic.

    • Imasewsure

Adorable… can we have her stage an intervention for Katie Holmes? This looks just as effortless as the shlock she was sporting earlier (and yet beautiful, tasteful, cute and edgy).

    • http://profiles.google.com/junkfoodgenius Neva Reese

Always tell people you love what they are wearing if you feel that. You feel good and their day is easily made. Support good fashion choices!

    • lbl

Looking more like Taylor Swift every day.

    • MilaXX

love the look, covet the bag

    • marilyn

She needed to pick one red thing to wear/carry.  Either the bag or the pants.  The gold bowling shoes should only be worn by those over 70 years of age.

    • mjude

      want the shoes

    • snarkykitten

I might die and go to heaven if TLO shouted compliments at me

    • amf0001

from certain angles here she reminds me of Cate Blanchette – she should be so lucky to grow up to be her!

    • Vickiefantastico

Is it just me, or does she look exactly like Michelle Williams here?

    • http://twitter.com/aidanboleyn Aidan B

Feel free to praise me on the streets of Philly any day, boys! (I should be so lucky!) Back to the issue at hand, though, she does look pretty great. And I’m pretty sure I’ve been lusting after that bag for months now.

    • Trisha26

I want both of her bags and the coat. Love her.

    • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

I love every single thing about this look, and it’s real! I mean, real girls and even some women can wear this!

    • Zippypie

Very very cute.  That red bag is drool worthy.

    • littlemac8

I’m piling on: that bag is gorgeous.  Fortunately it would be too big for me and I know I’d have buyers remorse after.  I bought a fabulous pair of Gabrielle Kiss turquoise earrings and broke the bank.  I love them but I still sort of wince when I put them on.

    • Cousin_Rose

He he. I’ve been googling to find the Born Ibis shoes on sale and now they are following me all over the TLo site.  Love those shoes!

    • lrhg

For those looking for her shoes, I know BORN has a similar pair (way less expensive obviously). http://www.onlineshoes.com/womens-born-joely-panna-cotta-metallic-p_id247987?adtrack=gpa&term=Women%27s+Born+Joely&offer= (They are more silver than they look in the picture.)

    • zbkat

Yes! And they look so comfortable. But which ones to choose? Love the gold, but also LOVE the cream patent and navy. Santa, I was very good this year!

    • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

We aren’t supposed to stop people to say that?  I generally don’t yell it, but I will cross to someone so I can say it while passing by.

    • barbarienne

Shouting things out at people isn’t cool, but I make a point of telling total strangers if I like some aspect of their look. It has to be done in passing (as in, we are walking opposite directions on the same sidewalk) so they don’t have reason to think I’m hitting on them or trying to sell them something.

I figure, don’t most people like to hear something nice about themselves? These women dressed themselves–their sartorial choices can be credited to them, not some paid stylist.

My comments range from “Great boots!” to “That color looks great on you.” It has never failed to get a smile in return. Also, often a standing-up-straighter. The world spends too much time making women feel bad about their appearance. I try to reverse that at least for a moment.

It might be more fraught for you guys since you are men. Many women are tired of men looking at them and commenting on their appearance. Maybe if you were together and looking couple-y, so it would be clear you were fashion-gays and not girl-chasing horndogs.

    • quiltrx

She does a really nice almost-dressed-up dressed down, doesn’t she?  Very comfortable-looking but really put together at the same time.

    • decormaven

Working it! Gorgeous casual look. That Burberry bag is under my Imaginary Christmas Tree.

    • miagain

Why do i always fall in love with bags that probably cost more than my mortgage?

    • EEKstl

      The metallic oxfords are adorable!

    • FashionShowAtLunch

I would do unspeakable things for that bag.

    • Candigirl1968

I would like to steal this, from head to toe.

    • sweetlilvoice

If two such fabulous gentlemen as yourselves were to compliment me, I (and I suspect most bitter kittens) would be most pleased. Emma is a doll here.

    • Cousin_Rose

Kohl’s has pretty much those pants in their Vera Wang collection. Haven’t found the sweater yet.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=768540908 Badriya Al-Badi’a

You guys should totally call out to people whose stuff you like.  Last night as I waited grumpily in the cold for a bus, a woman walking by exclaimed to me “I love your coat!”  Didn’t stop to talk about it, just wanted me to know she liked it.  Totally cheered me up.
