Elle Fanning in Los Angeles

Posted on December 18, 2012

Oddly, it seems that Miss Elle is not as afraid of color when she’s dressed a little more casually.

Elle Fanning heads to Milky Way restaurant for lunch in Los Angeles.

Granted, it’s not exactly a look drowning in vivid hues or anything, but we sure wish she’d at least turn to these pale blues a little more often on the red carpet.

We totally dig this look for being a modern twist on the classic, groovy Marcia Brady. Granted, Marcia probably wouldn’t be caught dead in a coat that looks like something Alice wears to do grocery shopping, but times change and the kids dig the granny-chic shit today.

Marcia also wouldn’t say “shit” if she had a mouth full of it, but we digress.

retro and cute. she looks totally over the paparazzi but definitely not a bad casual look to be snapped in.

      • 3boysful

The outfit’s cute but why does she look  stoned?  Especially compared to the woman beside her who appears to be walking with much more of a purpose?

        • twocee

Thank you.  I thought I was the only one who thought she looks stoned.  Then again, I’ve thought that for the last 4-5 posts she’s been in.

        • kelog

I think she looks rather sad.

    • Imasewsure

Love the Modern Marsha look. Love this girl and covet those awesome shoes!! On a negative note (isn’t there always a negative note), I wish she would de-yellowfy her hair a bit…. still though adorable

      • http://www.wordydoodles.com WordyDoodles

The yellow hair really distracted me, and I’m not usually that uptight about hair color.

        • V V

She needs to get some toner on that mane–it’s bordering on banana territory.

          • http://www.wordydoodles.com WordyDoodles

Thank goodness it wasn’t just me seeing that!

      • schadenfreudelicious

couldn’t agree more about that shade of blonde, it’s so unflattering to her complexion. Surely there must be a colorist in Hollywood who could help this girl find a more suitable hue?

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=13953311 Missy Covington

I’m kind of amazed how much more full-of-life her face/complexion looks with a bit of color. Then again, this is daylight lighting instead of flash-and-red-carpet lighting, so that could be having a positive effect too.

    • surfergirl70

      she has an amazing face.

    • http://www.djplaw.com/ Tadiana

She looks great, but you have to be young to pull off Granny-chic.  I would just look dowdy.

    • MilaXX

She looks great! I love the entire look and can ignore the dark roots. Notice too her face looks natural and not greasy which leads me to once again think it’s a combo of RC lights and the makeup used that are giving her such a shiny face on the step and repeat.

    • lehen

she looks like a lost child in the first 2 pics

    • hughman

Bubble: You’re very faint. Like, the photocopier’s runnin’ out of ink. And you’ve been Roneoed, Roneoed, Roneoed, Roneoed over and over. And this (Holding Patsy’s face) is the very last copy.

Thank you for the AbFab reference! Made my day.

I had those shoes in college in the early 90’s.  I still love that style.

Well, probably not THOSE shoes.  I’m sure she didn’t buy hers at Payless.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2CNDPMVO4W23R5TVC2QMTJ5BZE Heather

OMG I did too! Wore them with flowered dresses from the Express sale rack.

        • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

Yes! I was just thinking the same thing. Very 90’s.

      • zenobar

Had those shoes and rocked them with black tights (with runs for casual, and run-less freshies for work) and dresses from Contempo Casuals.  (OK, Contempo Casuals Clearance, since I had a budget of $35 a week – $7 on groceries, $10 on clothing and $18 for club covers.  Priorities, people.)

        • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2CNDPMVO4W23R5TVC2QMTJ5BZE Heather

Love those priorities. I’m impressed by the $7 for groceries tho. My food budget in those days was $25/week, though I was also feeding a slacker boyfriend.

          • zenobar

I usually bought a box of graham crackers, a half-gallon of milk in which to dip said crackers, ramen noodles, mac and cheese (store brand, holla!) and peanut butter and margarine as needed.  Sometimes I’d splash out and get a bottle of ranch dressing to mix into the drained ramen.  I cannot believe I was able to stay so svelte eating nothing but carbs…oh wait, that was the clubbing four nights a week.  Plus, y’know, being 19.

            • tereliz

Those were the days. I’m thinking of converting one room in my house into a mini-dancefloor complete with super sound system and a lightshow just so I can get more exercise. With a drink in my hand, naturally. (I drink vodka cran these days instead of gin and tonics; the g&ts were purely for aesthetic value as they glow under blacklight)

              Think that’ll work? ;)

            • zenobar

Please have me over for opening night?  I’ll bring the cloves.

            • tereliz

LOL, open invite to Bitter Kittens and their loved ones. But I smoked Camel Reds back then, not cloves. Do they still make those?

    • kimmeister

Interesting how on the red carpet, her face is as shiny as can be, yet just walking around town, it’s matte as all get-out.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1594250515 Kim Brightman

Why do we have to keep looking at her?

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2CNDPMVO4W23R5TVC2QMTJ5BZE Heather

Cute coat. My question is, if the sleeves are an inch too short on her, how short would they be on those of us who are larger than she is? (I think, or assume, that she’s tiny.) One would think that expensive clothing would be better tailored.

    • MissMariRose

The pockets on that coat are in a really awkward place.

      • Judy_J

I was just going to say the very same thing.  I love the coat, but those pockets are awkward.

    • teensmom99

I love the mix and matchiness of this–I think we’ve seen those shoes before with a full prada look (maybe I’m wrong) but I love that this likes it has different pieces from different designers.

    • marilyn

I think she needs a better hair color.  The blonde shade she has chosen is too monotone, and not quite right for her skin tone.  Since the color is fake anyway, she might try some highlights, or a more strawberry blonde color.  Right now, she looks like every other high school kid who colors her hair with boxed stuff from the grocery store/pharmacy.  Her hair can look more complex and interesting, but subtle in color.

      • Laylalola

If she’d just start from the color of her eyebrows her skin tone suddenly would look breathtaking by contrast and probably everything else about her look would fall into place too.

    • LLuL

Girl, please smile a little more. I can’t deal with the constantly blank face. Is she walking around in character, like Gaga?

    • crash1212

Would a little color on the lips kill her? Cute outfit.

    • http://twitter.com/aidanboleyn Aidan B

She looks befuddled but look, she’s not shiny!! Way to go, Elle!

    • j_anson

She just looks tired and unhappy all the time. :

    • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

It’s an adorable outfit, but she looks like she’s been clocked in the head. Hate that haircolor on her.

    • ankali

I’m not denying that it looks really good on her, but that coat is twee as fuck. Also, I don’t like the stitch used to make her sweater — it looks like inside-out stockinette, and that just bugs me.

    • Nancy Dunn

We never see these Hollywood kids out with friends, always adults. What a sad life they seem to have.

    • HomeOfficeGirl

I was busy all day – and trying to catch up.  LOL posts one after the other – rare form today, gentlemen.  Thank you!!

    • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

Great look. Although ‘retro-90’s’ comes to mind. Can it already be time for retro-90’s.  Sheesh I’m old.

      • Pennymac

Haha! It kills me to hear 80’s and yes, even 90’s on the local oldies station!

On topic, though, I love this outfit for Miss Fanning. The shoes are particularly great!

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

I’ve noticed that she always (or often) looks stoned or otherwise spaced out. It’s a little off-putting.

    • nannypoo

Her hair color is just awful with her very pink complexion. I can’t actually think of anyone it would look good on.

    • jmorino08

That coat is too twee even for a young startlet such as herself. Blergh.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=535548244 Kim Baker Vidas Davey-Irvin

she really looks like her tether to reality is a shiny, shiny ribbon.

    • pookiesmom

That jacket looks like something a 2 year old would wear.

    • pookiesmom

      She looks like Luna Lovegood.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Bob-Sponge/100000465550991 Bob Sponge

Her outfit makes me miss spring.

    • BrooklynBomber

Wow, those shoes. I can’t remember: are they ‘8s or early ’90s?

    • decormaven

Goodness, what a pale complexion! This shade of blue is particularly stunning on her. Would like to see a bit of color on the lips, though.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_VZLU6YVO4BRTELTTH3GRAAMWZQ Dot

I would love to know what her natural hair color is — and who convinced her to dye it a shade or two away from her skin tone.

    • guest2visits

The color is very pretty, but I hate the design in this box of a coat.  Plus; I’m geting a children-of-the-corn vibe from the
precise styling in this plastic/polyester looking ensemble.  This little Easter chick actually looks abit menacing.

    • http://twitter.com/jgboscan José Boscán

Not lovin’ it… That coat is kinda odd and shapeless, it seems that underneath was more interesting.

    • http://korilian.livejournal.com/ korilian

I hate this style. There is just nothing about it that flatters the body.
