Cathy Cambridge in Alexander McQueen

Posted on December 18, 2012

Since last she graced these pages not that long ago, Cathy Cambridge shared some news and then found herself attached to an oddly operatic/fairy tale kind of drama on the side, which threatened to tarnish the announcement. As such, does it really matter what we say about her dress? We know you kittens.

But let’s give it a shot anyway:

Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge presents awards at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year ceremony in an Alexander McQueen gown.

Alexander McQueen Lack Bell-Sleeve Floor Length Gown

Gorgeous color and shape on her. We tend to think she looks her best in McQueen. It keeps her in the realm of the royal and all its dress codes and hidden rules, it’s a quintessentially British brand, and it allows her to look modern and stylish.

Beckham looks pretty adorable too, we have to say.

Alrighty then: royal baby. Let’s pick names. We say “Travis” if it’s a boy and “Caress” if it’s a girl.

    • HomeOfficeGirl

Amazing!!  She can do no wrong!  Long live the princess!

    • Kiltdntiltd

I was going to go with Savage or Nectarine for names for the child. She looking Gorgeous in that green McQueen.

      • siriuslover

hahaha, God Save the King! King Savage!

      • miagain

dontcha think they should go for Princess if it’s a girl??  Princess Princess!!

        • Kiltdntiltd

How about Eugenia Victoria, after Bonnie Butler in Gone With the Wind?

          • starrika

            double post…

          • Gayer Than Thou

I b’lieve those are both family names, so…

          • starrika

Already taken by one of the Yorkies.

            • Ginny Ellsworth

              I think those are Corgis.

            • starrika

I don’t think Princess Beatrice and Eugenie look THAT bad. ;)

            • Ginny Ellsworth

I don’t know, take a look at the overbite on those two along with the cocker spaniel hair…..

            • Jackie4g

The term “yorkies” might possibly refer to the Duchess of York, not the dogs.

          • j_anson

Inasmuch as I have any feelings at all about the British royals, I kinda hope they go for Victoria. It’s a great name and it’s England’s other great queen. (Though I suspect it’d be seen as linked to colonialism, which they understandably might not want to be.)

            • foodycatAlicia

And we’ll secretly all know she’s named for Posh Beckham. Who can be godmother.

          • Louise Bryan

I’m down for Devon Dorset for a princess.

        • Heron

        • rawrgrowlrawr

My aunt is a first grade teacher and one year she had triplets in her class. They were named Prince, Sir and Mister. She said it was very difficult to ask them to do anything because it sounded so damn formal.

“Sir, please stop picking your nose.”

          • miagain

That’s like Who’s on first and What’s on second..
            too funny!

          • kmk05

This just made me snort Coke up my nose! Hilarious!

          • terpsichory

That’s awful! Why would you establish a titular hierarchy between your children? Poor Mister will probably end up Mr Cinderella…

            • rawrgrowlrawr

I know. She should have named him Lord or Captain. Or Michael.

          • lovelyivy

My Mother is a teacher too- the names some people give are just bizarre, but at least those are dignified. One poor child in her class was named “Diary” and the malicious little darlings called her “Diarrhea” for a whole year. My Mom could not do enough for that poor kid…

      • Natalie Bryan

I really thought Spencer would be a great name for a boy, as a nod to Diana. But I was informed by a friend that surnames as first names is something that the royals Do Not Do.

        • Cathy S

That would actually be nice. Maybe they can stick in in as one of his fifteen middle names.

          • bitchybitchybitchy

This child is going to have at least four names.  It would be a lovely gesture to choose one name from the Spencer side of the family tree.

            • Corsetmaker

Well his Uncle is Charles as well so that could be easily covered.

        • Spicytomato1

It’s cute for a girl, too. I know a lovely young lady named Spencer. But alas I agree it’s way too unconventional for the Windsors.

        • Ros Clarke

Not just royals. We don’t really do it in the UK at all.

          • Lucy Bates

Ha! I was going to say that too.

      • Gayer Than Thou

Nothing would beat Nectarine, but speculating/hoping for slightly more likely names, I hope they go with “Arthur” if it’s a boy.  If it’s a girl, I assume the name will be something like “_______ Elizabeth Diana __________.”  You know, because they have to have four names to compensate for the lack of a last name.

So, perhaps, Nectarine Elizabeth Diana McQueen.

        • Natalie Bryan

Is Windsor not considered their surname?

          • Gayer Than Thou

Well, sure, if you want to get all technical about it.  But I don’t think they use it as a “surname” in the same way that normal people do.  It’s more the name of their “house” – like “LaBeija.”  Which is totally what they should name their daughter, now I think about it.

            • Kiltdntiltd

LaBeija Windsor. Hmmmm. Sound like a name for a pop star.

            • Gayer Than Thou

If they don’t use it, I’m going to dibs it as my drag name for sure. Or start my own ball house.

            • Heather

I love that ‘LaBeija’ was your choice. I always wished my last name was ‘Xtravaganza.’

            • Shannon Stewart

No, they just don’t NEED a surname really.  I mean, when you say Prince Charles, no one goes, “Which one?”

All those in the line of succession are actually legally obligated to use Windsor as their surname — which is why Charles and his offspring don’t have his father’s last name.

            • lovelyivy

Well Windsor is undeniably a cooler last name than Mountbatten (and yes, as an American I am slightly sad that I know that).

          • Ros Clarke

In the army, William is known as William Wales.

            • Dora K.

William Wales and Cathy Cambridge! I love it!

Would that make the queen “Elizabeth UK”?

            • Diane Lynch

She is “Elizabeth R” in her signature. For Regina (queen). No, for reals. For kings, the R stands for Rex (king).

I am a veritable stagnant pool of useless trivia.

            • Gayer Than Thou

And “Regina” rhymes with “Fagina,” as in Alotta.

            •ía-Gavello/1253586868 Lucía Gavello

Lizzie Britain is a great drag name also. That or a nickelodeon character.

            • Amelia Logan

He applied to college with that name too

          • Laurenash

If you wanna get super technical, decedents of the Queen and Prince Philip use Mountbatten-Windsor. Prince Philip got all huffy and puffy about his children not having his “name” (he pretty much made it up) even though no one uses last names for royals. straight boys amiright

            • Shannon Stewart

They actually HAVE to have Windsor.  It’s an act of Parliment.

        • Kiltdntiltd

I think I’m in love with this idea.

        • Shannon Stewart

They always have 15 freaking names anyway.  And then when they take the throne, a good chunk of them choose another one!

      • annieanne

I was thinking LaShonda and Antwahn.

Is it my imagination or is the slit on the McQueen actually cut a bit higher on Cathy than on the original?

        • Kiltdntiltd

Ya know, it really does look higher.

      • marigi

Now my future daughter will HAVE to be named Nectarine! Although the italian version doesn’t sound quite so catchy: Albicocca.

      • e jerry powell

This baby is going to be a Royal, not a Beckham.

        • bitchybitchybitchy

When I told my husband about this post his immediate response was that the baby should be named “Royal Posh”!

    • Patricia Gillett

I hope the baby has her hair.

      • hmariec19

I think we ALL hope for that.

        • bitchybitchybitchy

We also hope that the baby does not inherit the Windsor ears…

      • Patrick Cleary

Most babies are born with what looks like his hair.

      • choco

the balding gene is passed on the X chromosome so if its a boy, it’ll have her hair :)!

        • calimon

I had the understanding that the balding gene is passed down from her parents, so it’s not whether her hair looks great, it’s more whether her father is bald.

      • Ceur

         *her hairdresser

        • pop_top

(No shade, I love her hair. But it’s become quite thick since her wedding.)

          • Shannon Stewart

There’s a good chance that’s natural.  After all, post-wedding there was going to be a baby quickly thereafter, so she probably started prenatal vitamins then, which leads to hair growing thicker, stronger, and faster.

      • Fordzo

I’m praying for a ginger baby who looks exactly like Uncle Harry so that I can carry on with my Harry/Kate fanfic.

      • Gayer Than Thou

I hope the child has her hair, but a baby with that hair would look like Cousin It.  And then they could name it Prince(ss) It.

      • Introspective

her hair was amazing before, and pregnancy only makes it even better. you may retch like a fool and bloat like a balloon but gestating a human = your best hair day lasting 9 or so months.

cath is about to hit us with some gorgeous tresses while she cooks up the next royal for sure.

        • Shannon Stewart

Oh, not if she’s as sick as reported.  I had that with my oldest, and my hair looked awful.  Because I was malnourished and if I took a shower, it made me even sicker.

          • Antonia O’Connor Donnelly

Me too, I had the worst hair and was sick as a dog.  It lasted for most of the time I was pregnant. Ugh.

        • Danielle Lisle

When I was pregnant, my hair was glorious. Cathy is going to reach Disney Princess levels by her second trimester.

    • Tatiana Luján

I don’t like the fit in the bust area, but the color is gorgeous on her and the dress is season appropriate.

    • Barbara Affolter

I have a coworker named Caress.  We call her “Stripper Name” behind her back & bemoan the fact that she was once a 12 year old girl with a highly sexualized name.

    • Natalie Bryan

I really hope she’s feeling better. I know hyperemesis can come and go during the pregnancy. She looks great, though. Can’t wait to see her maternity wear choices!

    • E. Sevilla

i can’t take my eyes off david beckham, i’m sorry. he looks uncharacteristically NOT stuck-up. he’s beautiful. and that suit is gorg.

oh wait the princess is here

      • kimmeister

His smile in that last shot looks positively warm and benevolent!

    • Patrick Cleary

I wish she’d kept the belt, she’s still slim enough for it.

Toonces if it’s a boy and Wichita if it’s a girl.

      • Kiltdntiltd

        Princess Witchita!
        I love this!

      • quiltrx

Prince Toonces, the cat who could drive a car!

        • bitchybitchybitchy

All shall bow before her and despair!

    • lehen

i know its a little premature but i was really hoping to see a little royal bump

    • siriuslover

I love everything about that gown except the sleeves by the wrists, but even that doesn’t bother me too much. What a great color for her! And can Beckham get his own post today?

They’ll probably choose something like Harry for a boy (because the brothers are close) and maybe Diana’s middle name for a girl? Frances, I think? Anyone know?

    • CassandraMortmain

Gorgeous look and the color is seasonally appropriate.  It’s a festive, Christmassy look without being overtly so.  She’s one tall drink of sexy mama.  And damned if she isn’t taller than every man on that stage.

I say we let Sarah Palin pick the name.

      • charlotte

Goodness, the kid would end up being called Belfast or Prick!

        • Danielle Lisle

I just spit my coffee all over my desk!

      • Fordzo

Let’s play with this…Sarah has a Track and a Trig, her daughter has a Tripp.  I think she’d name the royal baby Truck.

        • Introspective

or Trap. or Trim. or some other batshit name which may have some alaskan meaning that doesnt compute in the lower 48.

          • NC_Meg

I lived in AK for three years (during the height of Sarah Palin’s fame, no less) and those names are gibberish to Alaskans, too.

        • charlotte

Truck is brilliant! By the way, Donald Duck’s nephews are called Tick, Trick and Track in the German version. I see a pattern there…

      • Spicytomato1

I was thinking how unusually statuesque she looked, too. My only quibble is with her new, long bangs. They don’t seem to blend properly with the rest of her hair or something.

    • Jecca2244

looks gorgeous. but i would have made those royals spokespeople lie. poor thing doesn’t look pregnant.

    • Danielle Lisle

I’m sorry, this is a post about Catherine? I am too focused on Becks.

      • bitchybitchybitchy

Becks is looking quite fine here, indeed.

    • Clydette Wantland

      Perfection always!

    • iheartbuffy

      Will II and Elizabeth III

    • StrandedFashionista

I can’t wait to see her in maternity wear by McQueen.

    • Snailstsichr

I’m thinking Bombay for a boy and Sapphire for a girl – to honor the late Queen Mum’s favorite drink. (As a caveat, I don’t know what brand she drank, but this one has a pretty bottle – and a name for a boy and a girl!)

Mr Beckham’s pants totally make up for his horrible hair. He needs to buy these in every color they make.

      And Kate is stunning.

      • tereliz

LOL, at the Bombay Sapphire. My favorite British gin is called Boodles, which would also work for a boy or a girl. ;)

Beckham’s hair is tragic, but I hardly noticed. Only, what shoes is the Duchess wearing that she’s towering over him? Is he really so wee?

        • ChiliP

I believe Kate is 5’10 or so, and with heels she probably ranges from 6′-6’2. So it’s not so much that Beckham is wee, as it is that Kate is the Michelle Obama of the Princess world! :)

    • KatyMightHave

Love Live the Kittens! You guys – with the name suggestions and the hair comments – I’m gasping and howling here… I doff my imaginary cap to you…

    • chylde

Boy: Charles Simon Nigel Gavin Trevor Philip Nevile Mycroft Alistair William
      Girl: Elizabeth

      • shirab

Ha! This reminds me of a British actor friend who works in the NYC. He says any time he auditions for voiceover parts that require British accents, it’s always the same group–he comes in, sits down, and says “Hello Simon, Trevor, Nigel.”

    • quiltrx

That’s a great dress and very flattering.  But I admit, I have trouble seeing her in the pictures with Becks.  The hotness tunnel vision kicks in!

    • Judy_S

      Caress Cambridge?

    • NC_Meg

I’m hoping for a Harry Potter name. Keeping it all highly British, you know. Princess Hermione, Prince Ronald, Prince Neville, etc.

      • Spicytomato1

How about Hedwig? Personally my favorite character!

        • Adriana_Paula

Then everyone could call the baby Angry Inch…

    • Joanna Strange

Interesting fact, if she has hyperemesis gravidarum (which the Brits say she does), she is more likely to have either a girl or TWINS!

      • Natalie Bryan

Huh, I’d never thought of that. The one woman I know of who had HG with all 6 of her pregnancies has 6 girls, so…yay for anecdotal evidence supporting your comment!

        • Shannon Stewart

Mine was with a boy — though I was sick with all of mine except the 4th.

      • Gayer Than Thou

Then they can name one Hyperemesis and the other Gravidarum!

        • Natalie Bryan

Stick those in the middle of all the million names they give ‘em, and I bet no one would even notice!

      • Shannon Stewart

I don’t think twins are considered true hyperemesis gravidarum — you’re just sicker because you have twice the hormones.  And her doctors would know the difference because I guarantee they ran ultrasounds.

    • jw_ny

It’s an ok gown.  The belt added some modernity and interest to it.  As is, tho, it’s on the mature side and kind of a snore.

    • Therese Bohn

Love it, she’s working it well.

Names, how about Blintz for a boy and Finches for a girl?  Then it would be Prince Blintz and Princess Finches!
As to real names, I like Gregory and Therese

    • Ginny Ellsworth

Euphemia if a girl and Balderdash if a boy!

She is truly beautiful here. I hope she feels better. Mr. Freezee pops were my go to morning sickness palliative. Driving to work every morning, eating a fruit flavored icicle was the only way to get there.

      • Vaniljekjeks

I was thinking Euphemia as well.  Good to see I’m not the only one.

    • Pants_are_a_must

Poor thing looks exhausted(ly beautiful). Can’t she pull a princess and just put her feet up for a while?

    • Pants_are_a_must

Also, if we’re being totally facetious, I’d say “Disney” for boy and “Pixar” for girl, because then they’ll have letterheads with “Disney, Prince” and “Pixar, Princess” and I’m totally cool with it.

    • lexilexi

She looks gorgeous.  His pants are too tight.  Ahem.

    • Jessica Zipper

I love how aborably giddy Becks gets when around the royals.  You can just hear the mantra running through his head “living the dream, livin the dream, omg livin the dream!”

      • bitchybitchybitchy

I think this is why I’ve come around to liking Beckham-he still seems like a local bloke who knows that he is living the dream.

    • Monday1900

Gorgeous color–I didn’t realize it was floor length from the other photos I’d seen.  Sarah Burton really is best for her.

    • Fordzo

Kong for a boy, and Queen for a girl (just to make it obvious).

    • Judy_J

That is a gorgeous dress, perfect for her.

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

If it is a girl, I like the name Aisha, from the song “Isn’t She Lovely?”.  If it is a boy, any name is fine except Charles.

    • marlie

I love everything about the dress, though I think it would have looked even better with the belt.

    • Corsetmaker

She looks great and it’s not so flashy as to overwhelm the award winners.
The whole hoax call situation was pretty tragic. I hope it results in people giving very careful thought to the results of prank calls. When they got through they should’ve revealed that it was a hoax and then hit delete on the recording.

As for names… for a boy I’m guessing Philip. Old Phil is getting on and his health hasn’t been too good, the timings might make that likely. Or it will be a lineage name that’s gone before. For a girl, I’ll bet Diana is in there as a middle name with something more formal as a first like Victoria.

    • leave_Blake_alone

      CARESS. I’m dying. Love it.

    • Ass Kicking Adviser

Brad if it’s a boy (but they’ll call him Scooter); Misty Paige if it’s a girl.
      Princess looks stunning.

    • Stella Zawistowski

I love this look, but would love it more if there were more jewelry involved. C’mon, you’re a royal! Break out the diamonds!

    • myristica_fragrans

i have no idea how she always manages to making amazing outfits look basic and frumpy.

    • rloliveira

      Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous.

    • jennyv

      That dress is fabulous!

    • SewingSiren

      Elegant, stylish, and seasonally appropriate.

      Oscar for a boy and
      Concepción for a girl.
Or even better how bout  Lorenzo for a boy and Tomasa for a girl.

    • MilaXX

She looks really pretty in that. I for one, am glad you didn’t post about her during that madness.

      • Shannon Stewart

She looked fantastic leaving the hospital, though :)  How she’s managing to look even human with being sick all the time just boggles me — I looked like a gargoyle through all of mine!

        • MilaXX

I don’t think we will ever see anything but a brave face, but all the insanity surrounding her pregnancy made me understand why JayZ bought out a wing for Beyonce.I love popculture and snarking on celebs as much as the ext person, but this just felt intrusive. It’s a line I’d rather not cross.

          • Shannon Stewart

I think the topless shots were worse — this is a question of her producing the next generation of royal heir.  That’s sort of a public interest issue.  You don’t want people asking about your pregnancy, then don’t ask them to accept that its DNA qualifies it to act as the public face of a nation.

            • MilaXX

I find them both equally intrusive, and the media swarm went far beyond simply asking about her pregnancy.

        • formerlyAnon

As far as looking good in public, if she can stand without turning grey-green, that’s all *she* has to accomplish. She may not ordinarily need it, but if she does they can pull in a bevy of assistants who will dress, comb and make her up. With one standing by offering ice chips, aromatherapy vials and a damp towel and another holding the puke bucket while a third monitors her vitals, if needed.

    • decormaven

      Lurve this shade on her.

    • Cathy S

I love that. The color and shape are fabulous on her. Rock it Princess!

    • Kenisha Hill Phillips

      It needs the belt.

I’m going old school: Victoria Elizabeth or Charles Richard.

    • lrober03

I’m obsessed with the second picture.  She looks like she’s wearing the chicest 70’s bellbottom pantsuit that I’ve ever seen!  Love the silhouette from McQueen

    • Little_Olive

      Great outfit, Pri!

And yes, Becks looks pretty damn good. I love that he is able to dress and do his hair and carry himself in a sober manner for the occasion -I know quite a few here that have met ministers or even our president in trackpants, “because I’m an artist”.

    • MinAgain

She does look beautiful.  And I see no trace of a baby bump.

I say Boudica for a girl and Percival for a boy.

      • Anathema_Device

I’ll second that Boudica. (We named one of our chickens for her, and that chicken turned out to be the barnyard badass.)

        • bitchybitchybitchy

I’m just loving the picture in my mind of Boudica chicken strutting her stuff all around the barnyard!

          • Anathema_Device

And she ended up being the most beautiful of our chickens! She really grew into her name!

    • surfergirl70

She looks beautiful.  And impossibly tall.

    • Ros Clarke

It is a gorgeous dress, but I don’t think it hit the right note at that ceremony. Needed more sparkle.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

Darryl Arthur Travis Louis for the boy, Caress Louise Helene for the girl!  Gorgeous dress on the mum-to-be.

    • guest2visits

I thought it was an odd looking dress on the form, but Cathy C. makes it work; very pretty.
I remember hearing or reading that Diana had some serious morning sickness herself.
How wonderful for them both; it was happy news to hear about the baby.  Best Wishes; W+C.
I love the list of names BKs have chosen – lets all hope the couple surprises us!

    • Diego!

I didn’t realize how tall she is! She looks amazing! :)

    • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

Gorgeous dress, gorgeous Duchess, that baby is going to be lethally adorable. I’m voting for Sebastian or Deirdre.

      • Shannon Stewart

Or incredibly homely.  Some of the prettiest adults I know were ugly babies, and some of the least cute babies I know were from very pretty couples.

    • another_laura

The dress is reminding me of the late 70s at Studio 54.  And not in a good way.  It looks cheap even though I know it is so very not cheap.  The color saves it.  I am really not liking seeing these pirate-y sleeves make a return.

Okay, enough bitchy about the dress.

As for names, well, it’s kind of like show dogs, isn’t it? – they have their official names and then their “call” names.  And while they’re modern they’re rather traditional, too, these two.

Michael Albert Philip Louis / Mary Alexandra Diana Victoria

    • Shannon Stewart

Girl — Diana Elizabeth for his mother and grandmother (though I wouldn’t be surprised to see him stick something from his stepmother in there — supposedly they get along well and it would be a gesture toward family unity for the press.)

      Boy — Philip Charles Albert.

    • Rand Ortega

Shamiqua for a girl & Tigerfang if it’s a boy.

      • out for a walk

        King Tigerfang would be AMAZING.

    • LesYeuxHiboux

Billy Bob for a boy and Ke$ha Kardashian for a wee princess (Prince William Robert Charles Haberdasher Tiddlywinks Mugwump would be the official, of course).

      • MissAmynae

        Pronounced K-E-dollarsign-ha, of course!

    • Ashleigh Boutelle

      speaking of thigh staring…[Beckham] [Jackman]

    • GorgeousThings

      I. Want!!!!

The gown, I mean, though if Beckham came as the delivery boy, I wouldn’t turn him away.
She looks great. Pregnancy agrees with her. I hope she can keep away from the arschlochs who would try to ruin this time for her. And ruin other people’s lives.

    • Joyce VG

I’m not sad anymore. T Lo finally has brought the Duchess of Cambridge back.  Although I wish I could see a baby bump I still think she looks absolutely stunning.  Really she’s glowing. Yay!  Oh the drama is truly awful and I don’t wish her morning sickness on anybody, but my she is pretty!

    • Qitkat

I am bewildered that an event which has electric blue lighting in the background has also turned the future queen into a flaming ginger.

      • Shannon Stewart

         Consort, not queen.

    • kimmeister

I’m a tiny bit surprised that it was considered ok for her to wear such a high slit, although I realized she wouldn’t have been able to take any but the teeniest steps without it.

    • poggi

Pretty.   Although I wish she had worn the belt.

    • MissAmynae

Love love this! McQueen really is her best– Sarah Burton for personal atelier would be amazing!!  Temperley is a close second.

I think they’ll go pretty traditional, but keep other international royals in mind- so no Victoria, Mary or Caroline.

James, Philip, Alexander for a boy. Elizabeth, Anne, Margaret for a girl.

    • Imasewsure

Travis and Caress… so funny… love the dress, love McQueen and Becks always looks good when he dresses up (he’s too tattoo-y and pretty boy for me in shades of undress I guess)

    • Cortney Dean

She does look her best in McQueen. I mean, I am totally biased in favor of all things McQueen, but it really does suit her aesthetic, frame/physique, and is very modern-royal. Also, LOVE her in this color! As for names, if it is a girl I suggest Princess Consuela Banana-Hammock.

    • Elsewhere1010

Wrong on the names. It’s “DomCom” if it’s a boy and “ForaDay” if it’s a girl. Then when he/she gets to be King/Queen, their name will be easy to remember.

    • Stubenville

Neigh or Whinny (if mother-in-law Camilla has input.)

    • pookiesmom

What is the “oddly operatic/fairy tale kind of drama” about which you speak?

      • Laylalola

They mean the Game-of-Thrones-esque foreshadowing cast by that royal who from the womb is already wreaking havoc internationally.

        • Tom and Lorenzo

No, we were referring to the nurse who committed suicide. There’s something very darkly mythic about the whole thing.

    • Heather

It’s a shame that her pregnancy was ‘outed’ so early. She could easily have hid it for another month or so at least.

    •!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

She. Looks.  SPECTACULAR.  Wow, that’s a lot of envy I’ve got going before my second cup of tea.

    • Jenna Olson

Love.  But goodness do I wish she kept the belt.

    • formerlyAnon

      Freakin’ AWESOME.

I think “Buddy” and “Princess” would be nice as nicknames.

    • ThaliaMenninger

Clearly it will be Beckham if it’s a boy and Posh if it’s a girl.

No, really, I’m betting Phil or Liz for the new generation. Wills is William Arthur Philip Louis, but I hope they bypass the Arthur if they’re trying to mine Dad’s names. Icks. Chuck is Charles Philip Arthur George. I suppose they could pick up the George. That’s Queen E’s dad, although, of course, his real name was Albert Frederick Arthur George. ‘Aven’t ‘ad nary a George or Albert for a good while, ‘ave they?

It would be amusing to name a girl Diana knowing she is likely to be Queen Diana someday, which would probably annoy Chuck, Camilla AND Queen E.

But I still think they’ll go Elizabeth or Philip. Except that would mean King Phil, which is no good. Alrighty then. I propose George Phillip Charles Michael or Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Caroline. K George VII or Q E III. Cool.

      • Shannon Stewart

No, it wouldn’t have to.  They often change names when they take the throne — like Albert did, because King Albert didn’t suit.  Charles will most likely change his, as King Charles is not a name fondly remembered by history.

        • Mazenderan

I think Charles has opted for James when he ascends to the throne.

      • Laylalola

I thought I read it will be Diana if a girl and Spencer if a boy, but now I’m wondering if I made that up.

        • Ros Clarke

           You made that up.

    • j_anson

Damn, that is a high slit for a future queen! (Not a complaint; I think she looks lovely and that color is gorgeous on her. I’m just surprised they let her out of the palace in that.)

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

How about, Mary, Edith or Sybil if it’s a girl and Matthew if it’s a boy?  :)

    • Pamela

We can be fairly sure there will be no royal babies named London, Kumquat, Sloane, Thames, or Pilot Inspektor.  Thank you, tradition.

      • Adriana_Paula

What about Apple or Moses?  Moses is traditional…

    • Adriana_Paula

      Stringer?  SandeE*?

    • SapphoPoet

She looks wonderful. Gorgeous color and a great silhouette.

    • dorothea_brooke

It’s really sad how awful she looks.  Poor thing.  :[

Victoria and James for names.  I am boring.

    • Judih1

      LOVE the dress.

    • Esz

My gosh I love that dress – the colour is perfect.
As for names – It would have to be something classic – Like Jack or Mary…

    • teensmom99

Love the way she’s wearing this season’s trendy color in a way that doesn’t seem to trendy. Same is true for trendy peblum.    No guesses on the name here. . . sorry.

    • Renate Yerkes

Albert aka bertie,; Fiona aka Fifi

    • Amy

Love it but keep the belt, Kate! Gives it a little something something!

    • velomango

re: names – isn’t it evident? Alexander if it’s a boy, McQueen if it’s a girl.

    • librarygrrl64

I wish she had kept the belt, though.

    • blondie65

About the belt…I had extreme morning sickness with my last one (of three).  I knew at 6 weeks I was pregnant and could NOT stand anything  around my waist…no matter how loose.  Nothing. I started wearing dresses that hung from the shoulder  well before I was showing…so that may very well be why she axed the belt.

    • ccm800

NICE!  I am  no fan of Becks as far as attraction but  I must say…he looks delish  up there.

    • korilian

Since these are royals they’ll probably throw in the names of the grandma’s and possibly the queen somewhere. So Alexandra Diana Carole Elizabeth. Of course they’ll also add the name of whoever becomes godmother, which could be either Pippa or a fellow European royal.
For a boy George or Edward seems likely, since those name have pedigree and have been out of rotation for a while.
