I would have liked to see Cate rock the original runway version with crazy pants.

    • MarissaLG

That was my first thought too. Still, she looks lovely.

  • Introspective

im loving this. theres a lot of details on the top, to which the shoes are smartly referential but not matchy.  the sleek skirt sets this off well.

its labor intensive on my eyes but in a good way.

  • FrayedMachine

I feel like after the last few pulls of her red carpet ensembles, this is like a breath of fresh air. She looks absolutely flawless here. Love pretty much everything, even the ridiculous sleeves.

    • EveEve

      LOVE. LOVE. LOVE!

  • HomeOfficeGirl

    LoVE this!  Perfect!

  • VicksieDo

    BOW DOWN.  Amazing.

  • Sinéad B.

I really like this, I mean REALLY like this. Excellent job, as always Cate!

  • Toni Busch

Fantastic.  The black pencil skirt is the perfect “frame” to the top’s artwork.  I also love how the beading in the shoes calls back to the top.

  • Sobaika

    YES, CATE!

Glad she ditched the runway leggings.

  • erinbinek

I love her- I think she is one of the leading fashionistas of our time.  She can wear things most mere mortals would never dare to.

  • kschwarting

I don’t love the top, but she’s made it work better than it does on the model–mostly due to pairing it with a sleek black pencil skirt.  Plus she’s La Cate, and I adore her.

  • Ashetalia Staatz

I’m not normally matchy-matchy, but the skirt fabric/color doesn’t match the peplum. That would be fine if there was more of a contrast, but as it is, it looks like she just put a tight black skirt under the shirt and is trying to pass it off as an outfit.

  • Lily

LOOOOOVE. Though I kinda wish she had attempted the crazy pants runway version, because if anyone could pull that off, it’s Cate.

  • j_anson

So many stars are on my irrational hate list. Cate Blanchett, however, is on my rational love list.

  • Sara Leigh Merrey

She looks stunning, as usual. I’m glad she didn’t do the runway pants. Too wacky. I’m not wild about the sleeves on the blouse, but she can pull that kind of thing off.

    • 3boysful

Even tho I’m not a huge peplum fan, I appreciate how the sleeves reference the peplum.

  • Trisha26

She can even make a peplum work for me! Lovely.

  • Ailsa

I loooooove this! She is my idol. Although I kind of wish it had straight sleeves instead of the weird flare.

  • marlie

Love everything about this, from head to toe!!

  • Rhonda Shore

  • Tamara Hogan

I have to give this a massive WERQ.

  • filmcricket

Oof, those sleeves. It’s like they belong to a completely different outfit. And is that two shades of black I’m seeing, between the peplum & the skirt, or is the peplum navy? She’s making this work, but barely.

  • Pants_are_a_must

Why is this not a WERQ post?

    • unbornfawn

I know! This is a fabulous look and she is pulling it off in ways other women never could.

    • Nicholas

I think a mutiny is in order.

    • allaboutthewalterbenjamins

Exactly. Just imagine poor purple Alicia Keys next to her.

  • Judy_J

Points off for the navy peplum paired with the black skirt (at least, that’s how it appears in the photos).  That said, I think she looks smashing.  Love the shoes!

  • teensmom99

  • procrastinatrice

    Bow down kittens! Fabulosity!

  • crush on you

Classic Cate, always the pro. Looks like a perfect WERK to me.

  • TieDye64

I don’t know many women that could successfully pull this off, but she’s one of them. Absolutely gorgeous.

  • Jangle57

I think she’s pulling it off but hey, lets focus on the real tragedy here: what the model is wearing.  At least it gave me a good laugh.

  • Jill

    WERQ it Cate, love this

  • Stella Zawistowski

It’s Cate Blanchett’s world, and we are all just living in it.

(even though she has a Voltron mask on her chest)

    • StellaZafella

I think I love it BECAUSE she has a Voltron mask on her chest…and it’s still Fierce Fashion! :)

    • Adriana_Paula

To me it looks like a Lite Brite Transformer head.  Which should terrify me, but still I love it.

    • e jerry powell

Nah, it’s Tilda Swinton’s world.  Blanchett gets to be the cute younger sister.

  • Jecca2244

  • MzzPants

  • BP180

Lite Brite, Lite Brite, turn on the magic of colored lights!

  • ScarlettHarlot

From the front view of the top, all I can think is “Lite-Brite, Lite-Brite, turning on the magic of colored lights!”

  • Magdalena Monzerrat Ontiveros

    Chic and Fierce!

  • E D

    I like all of it.

  • Julie Chase

This is a WERQ to me. She is divine.

  • Hannah Shmulsky

MASSIVE. WERQ. I love this artsy-fartsy top, it’s sort of like what a bohemian cyborg would wear. The beaded shoes are perfect. And my goodness, she has lovely legs and feet!

  • JackieO

I cannot believe this was not a WERQ post.  Much better than others posted.  FLAWLESS as usual Cate.

  • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

    hell yes!

  • MilaXX

  • stubbornthoughts

  • MissAmynae

Bow down, bitches. Galadriel’s in the hizzouse!

  • belfebe

  • nannypoo

Beautiful. And I’m so glad she didn’t wear those atrocious pants. She’s fabulous.

  • Thom

    LOVE it. WERQ!

  • kaycem

not sure why this isn’t a werq… two in one day would be everything i need.

edited to add: i see there WERE two today. naomi looks good, but cate is perfection imo.

  • Zippypie

This is a major improvement over that gown she wore to The Hobbit premier.  Very chic!

  • jilly_d

  • alyce1213

Stunning.  I’d love to see a big closeup of the bodice, to see the work.

  • snarkykitten

Lovely! For once, the peplum isn’t sending me into a Gollum-style hissing fit

  • Imasewsure

Love this look and I haven’t been very please with Ms. Cate of late. Fabulous!

  • kimmeister

I love the shoes, but it makes me bonkers the way the straps are gaping upwards on the top of her foot like that.

  • Cate

    Perfection. Head to toe.

  • RocknRollmom

The fact that I love this look and think it is amazing is all to Miss Blanchett.  On any mortal I would go off about how ugly and unnecessarily busy the top was ( and thank goodness no one was wearing the pants) and ten comment on te nice shoes.  Miss Blanchett sets forth right here why she is not one of us.  First, I don’t claim to be a fashionista but I have some knowledge and I have never ever heard of this designer (I will now go learn) and second I think she could even pull off the pants as crazy as they are.  Mis Blanchett needs a whole separate category of WERQ for herself.   Alicia Keys and Miss Blanchett are not even in te same universe.

  • RocknRollmom

And I am apparently having “h” issues.

  • Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

And Cate the Great is back! Bow down, bitches.

  • Snailstsichr

This is such a nice pretty to end the day with.

  • marilyn

More conservative, covered up clothes for the folks in Dubai.  The print is a nod to the mid-East.  She is fine.

  • jmorino08

WOW! That is a whole lotta top and she is pulling it off! You go Cate!

  • leave_Blake_alone

Fantastic! This might deserve a WERQ.

  • commish24

Love everything but the peplum. That’s the one touch too much for me. A sleek line with that busy top would have been perfection.

  • Louise Bryan

Gorgeous.  I’m glad she took the overwrought top and paired it with a simple skirt.  The shoes pick up the theme of the top again.  Beautifully done.

  • Ass Kicking Adviser

Gorgeous. I love this dress and it’s not that easy to pull off. But she’s Cate Blanchett so of course she can.

  • quiltrx

This is very eyecatching and unusual–but not SO unusual that it distracts from the beautiful woman wearing it.  Very nice.

  • librarygrrl64

It’s not to my personal taste, but it has been altered, fitted, and accessorized beautifully, Brava, Kate.

  • Nonmercisansfacon

Love it. She always look luminous (if that is an english word).

  • Eovaai

    OMG. She is amazing.

  • Vera

Ms. Blanchett showing us how it’s done.

  • frankystein123

    Amazing as always.

  • Renate Yerkes

  • Zachariah E. B. Braithwaite

i definitely prefer the runway look to cate’s

  • RzYoung

  • decormaven

Snaps! Working the look from head to toe.

  • Dhammadina

Thank God she’s not wearing those tights.

  • veronkimo

Girl looks fierce! I love it! :)

  • bellafigura1

Perfection.  Avant garde made to look easy, effortless and comfortable … which is not easy to do.

  • HobbitGirl

She reminds me of a Lite-Brite (anyone remember those?).

  • Cristian Valenzuela

For me, this is an absolute WERQ
