Carolina Herrera Pre-Fall 2013 Collection

Posted on December 13, 2012

With celestial motifs as her starting point, Carolina Herrera offered up a pre-fall 2013 collection loaded with dark, rich colors to evoke the night sky, beautiful florals and prints in unusual colors and even some bold houndstooths. The result is luxurious, feminine, and very, very pretty.

Go ahead, ladies. Do a little fantasy shopping. And if you don’t have anyplace to wear these clothes, well, that’s what fantasy’s for, right?

Love, love, love…I so wish I had the money to afford these, and then somewhere to wear them. However, I suppose if I had that kind of $ I could just create those events :)

    • fringebenefit

OK…my faith in 21st-century couture restored. Thank you TLo.

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

No shopping here, just lots of Admiration for a professional who consistently produces gorgeous clothes that make women look as they wish to look, just plain beautiful.

      • http://twitter.com/k8twolf Katie Wolf

And the off-the-shoulder, graduated dots, Pop Art gown made me weak in the knees! :o

    • MarissaLG

      So beautiful!

    • http://www.facebook.com/aboutelle Ashleigh Boutelle

wow!! that overcoat with the gingham skirt and splash of red scarf is so cute!!

      • lovelyivy

I stopped to take notes on that- will totally be trying to recreate that look at Century 21 this Spring!

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Lucía-Gavello/1253586868 Lucía Gavello

I have PLENTY of places to wear these… let’s see: everything on the first row would be perfect for my Fashion Editor desk at Elle, the polka dot dress looks like a good fit for those pesky day-to-night garden parties with the cast of Downton Abbey, the pantsuits seem appropiate for grocery shopping and thankfully there’s a couple of gowns for my movie premiere dates with Joseph G. Levitt.

    • hughman

I, for one, am fully onboard with all the retro 50s full skirts appearing everywhere. Everyone could benefit from seeing more Dita Von Teese inspiration.

    • Kenisha Hill Phillips

      BUY ALL THE THINGS!

    • Anathema_Device

Wow. I pretty much want every single piece, including the suits with the large houndstooth check. I would break those pieces up, but I’d still wear them. I’m such a huge Herrera fan. Does that mean I’m old? If so, fine. But old and rich would be so much better.

      • Lauren Cooper

Not at all! I’m 25 and would wear most of this.

        • LesYeuxHiboux

          27, seconded.

      • librarygrrl64

         Not old, “classic.” :-)

        • Anathema_Device

Thanks. So let’s amend that to “classic and rich.” ;-)

    • charlotte

Aww *Annie gasp*… This is a giant load of pretty, but if you made me choose one, I’d go for the green one in the last row.

    • LongTall_Sally

      So much coveting!

    • MRC210

The pantsuits are a little too kitchen-curtainy for me but everything else is magic.  I love the dress on the right in the second row from the bottom and I usually hate bows on anything.  But these seem just right.

    • http://twitter.com/LianaBrooks Liana Brooks

The whole top row and the black gown with the beautiful white print of a flower.

    • StellaZafella

Retro to Vintage without being literal…a little cute butchiness in the pantsuits. Right in my (imaginary) wheel house.

    • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Want the spotted gown.  So fabulous.

Overall, though, the collection seems to have a disconnect for me — like it doesn’t belong together.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3JSTXMWWVZN2QNP2UEKJMTWD7U Isabel

I don’t see the story either.

    • Qitkat

Beautiful prints, classic silhouettes, modern interpretations. Love.
I want the middle dress in the first row to show off my tiny waist at the ladies who lunch charity brunch.
And the floaty bubble gown, 4th row left, to wear to the opening of opera season.
Finally the sassy green in the last row to meet Michelle Obama at a soiree at the White House.

    • http://twitter.com/catinlaw Catherine George

These are AMAZING … I’d love to have all three in the first row, plus all the big gowns (very last star-print one, colourful polka dots, and giant white flowers on black are all to die for). Well, really, I’d love to have everything, but if I’m going to wistfully wish for one to fall into my lap, it’s the last one.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/4NKSJJRAOV6Z3MUKPEWOQGZ22Q MelissaA

Again, another collection made for Taylor Swift.

      • kimmeister

The silver and navy dress with the shoulder bows is the one that made me think of her.

        • LesYeuxHiboux

I could see Zooey Deschanel in that one too, with the big round blue eyes.

      • lovelyivy

I don’t see that- these looks are so vibrant and colorful and her wheelhouse seems to be more white, delicate and Princess-y. This collection has too many really strong verging on bold looks for her.

ETA: Although a lot of these do seem to be in her preferred shapes- the silhouettes on some of the gowns in particular is Swiftian.

    • DTLAFamilies

Is it me, or does one of those models look like one of Herrera’s most famous clients, Renee Zellwegger? It’s a little disconcerting.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=590532879 Sandie Crandell White

Gorgeous I would wear any of these! !!!!!!

    • jmorino08

You can just go ahead and send all these to me too.

    • allisankelly

I seriously want one of everything. All of it. Except the red shoes. I want 3 pairs of those to last me the rest of my life.

    • Drew Macaulay

Bottom row, far left = Florence from Florence + The Machine.  5th row, far right = Kristin Davis.  2nd row, far left = me, having the most fabulous commute to work ever.

I covet all the dresses here, and I deeply admire the checked suits, which my ample childbearing hips prevent me from actively coveting.  This is the most astounding beautiful collection I’ve seen in 2012.  My seven year old daughter has been analyzing the pics for 10 minutes straight, practically an eternity for her attention span, the clothes just demand that compulsive genuine admiration.

    • kimmeister

I could come up with reasons to wear pretty much everything but the gowns.  Coming up with the money to buy them is another story entirely.

    • PastryGoddess

My local Wegmans won’t know what hit them

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ZBFH32YG44LIIZYLSQPMBXMYCU Sarah

Wow, did she tell that blonde model to do the Zellweger lemonjuice pout or is Zellweger’s pout the result of wearing Herrera all these years? Notwithstanding, I love most of these clothes. Some a little too uptight for my taste, but I’d sure wear that swirly bow-shoulder in a hot second!

    • another_laura

So very pretty!  There was definitely a day when I would have worn those houndstooth pants suits with happy abandon!  I love all those dresses.  le sigh

    • ojosazules

      Love all of it! Yum.

    • Kate4queen

I’d wear several of these! (not all at once, obviously)

    • zelavie

That black & white suit is PURE Gwen Stefani.

    • http://twitter.com/Alloyjane Alloy Jane

Holy Moses in a basket!  I would wear that cocktail length floral in the first shot, as well as dresses 1, 2, and 4 around the house if I had them.  Especially the one with the blue overlay, c’est superb!

    • Joyce VG

Yes Fantasy Wear…it’s all so beautiful.

    • http://twitter.com/Adibug87 Adi Saunders

Hello office dress, office dress, curtains, office dress and extremely beautiful bottom center green dress that has clearly claimed the soul of my firstborn.

    • NDC_IPCentral

Looks like FALL, no pre- about it.  This pre- baloney just galls my kibes.

That grump out of the way, this is a lovely collection that is beautiful, fresh, flattering and desirable.  I am content to view from afar, since IP Central wouldn’t know what to make of yours truly swanning in so attired, nor does my social life. such as it is, run to glam events.  Boy, the glam in life is growing as scarce as the teeth of hens.  At least for us mere mortals.

    • shanteUstay

First pic, the model in the gown, is WEARING ME OUT. She is selling the garment!
I love this collection it kinda has a moment of retro starlet to it.

    • http://twitter.com/Nancer Nancer

      I. Want. It. ALL!!!

    • m0r0

Never afraid to be feminine, that’s what I love about her!

    • Eclectic Mayhem

*picks jaw up off of floor*

      *weeps*

It’s so beautiful – I want the entire collection!

    • alyce1213

Beautiful, feminine collection, even the menswear-inspired pieces.
I’d kill for the gown fourth row down on the left.

    • kikisayshi

Love it all. Can I have some?

    • ankali

It would be easier to pick out the pieces I don’t like, because wow, is this collection beautiful. If I could only pick one to wear, though, it would be the 2nd dress in the 1st row.

    • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

I’ve always thought her so lovely and elegant, and she designs her clothes like her personality. They’re very beautiful.

    • nannypoo

Not a fan of those checked pant suits, but I love all the rest.

    • rloliveira

      Gorgeous!!!!

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

      I. Want. Everything.

    • quiltrx

I want pretty much every single dress/gown here.  I think the Dior-esque one on the right, next-to-last row is my very fave.

    • Tapetum

Third dress first row, third dress last row. Concert wear if ever I saw it – if only concerts at my level paid enough to afford such wondrous things.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_DBGUQZXOUEZM27CIITFATIEELE Dave G

Taylor Swift is drooling looking at some of these.

    • rkdgal

      SWOON.  Just gorgeous.

    • bertkeeter

CHIC as HELL! My favorite ….off shoulder gown w/ the abstract large multi colored dots!

    • LesYeuxHiboux

One of EH-verything (and someone else’s body so they all look right). Actually, I could work most of these shapes as-is, which is not something I can often say about Herrera. Just lovely.

    • BrooklynBomber

Never been a big fan, but it seems like her last couple collections are more fun, which makes me like them more.

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

I’ll happily invent an occasion for that second dress.

    • ChristySchiff

Why do I think all of these models look like Renee Zellweger?

    • Flora O

Last row, right: White House Christmas party. (Much more intimate, those inaugural balls get so crowded.)

Top row, center: Not sure. Everywhere.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

I would wear any of these looks, as is. Love love love it.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=9362159 Tracy Walker

To die… Love the dark blues at the end.

    • Puckndc

VERY nice….she can still deliver class and style…

    • TRSTL

There is not a single thing here i don”t love!  CH is the queen of this look and again, knocks it out of the park.  Oddly, I could see Taylor Swift in many of these looking fantastic.  Which is odd because one often thinks of CH as for a slightly more “mature” woman and TS as not this sophisticated.  But she should look into this collection…..

    • Jessica O’Connell

I don’t think this has ever happened before, but I like every piece in that collection. Oh if only I weren’t a broke graduate student. Le sigh.

    • Kristy Evans

That red houndstooth suit? YES PLEASE.

    • Judy_J

      Oh, I want it all!

    • http://twitter.com/commish24 commish24

Hope that Shelley O will wear that last gown to one of the inaugural balls! God, these are GORGEOUS!

    • http://kingderella.tumblr.com/ kingderella

i see gorgeous gowns like these, and 90% of the red carpet makes me sad.
i love the two florals that open the post, and the “60es polka dots” one.

    • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

Second row middle I do not love, because I am over the lace long-sleeves. Everything else j’adore!

    • http://aldonsusi.blogspot.com/ Susi R

       I LOVE EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • AthenaJ

      *hands outstreched* GIMME GIMME GIMME!!!

    • Jessi03

I want all of them, and I love that they look like they could be upsized easily.  Now I just need to work on the money angle…

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1401197785 Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

She’s one of my favorite designers. Beautiful clothes!

    • librarygrrl64

She is my favorite. Now, how to get thin enough and rich enough……..

    • tallgirl1204

Holy 1970s high school pantsuits, Batman!  Kind of love them anyway.  Also, pretty girls in gorgeous dresses– what’s not to smile about?   I cannot understand the industry’s fascination with blank-faced models.  They make me think that models think the dresses aren’t very nice, which doesn’t sell them to me at all.

    • guest2visits

Just beautiful; all of it.  (3rd dress, 3rd row); I would love to imagine this little dress as just something I would wear to
      work every day !

    • EEKstl

Wow, just stunning.  That polka dot chiffon gown is now my current obsession.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/XOKQHEUXULPSTIWKTOCIPKX4AI Emma

All of them. But if I had to choose (and I might not get to do even that, to be completely honest): The polka dot gown. Original and elegant at the same time.

    • Imasewsure

I don’t like the two florals that start off the collection here but the rest is gorgeous! Love it all. Hope a celeb rocks one of the plaid suits on a casual RC for us this season!

    • AuntieAnonny

I cannot wait until the Dippin Dots gown hits the red carpet. So much love.

    • Larkin21

These are gorgeous. Want most of these items but especially the dress top, middle.

    • http://www.facebook.com/cole.robertson.92 Cole Robertson

      J’adore!

    • silaria

This is freaking gorgeous.  I want everything, but especially that last gown.

    • Karen Dickerson

      WANT. EVERY. SINGLE. THING.

    • MilaXX

Pretty. Dianna Argon needs to send her stylist to snatch up those first  looks (well maybe not the navy/white) stat. Since she is a it fashion challenged, feel free to copy the runway look.

    • frankystein123

Bold and distinguished, every single piece.

    • sweet_potato

      OMG! WANT!

    • ccm800

Not a miss in the bunch. Love that point/line/plane polka dotty gown

    • barbarienne

I hate houndstooth and this has not changed my mind, but everything else? LOVE. The silver-and-blue dress in the 5th row could actually convince me to wear a dress.

    • http://twitter.com/amndad amanda lynn

      one of each, please.  :)

    • http://twitter.com/Josietoyou Joanne Abrams

Love all of it!  I can just dream about wearing each outfit and the wonderful places and events I would attend.  Great escape for a Sunday afternoon.

    • Trisha26

That B&W gown is to die…and the blue & gray swirl cocktail dress below it…heaven!

    • http://twitter.com/peacebang Victoria Weinstein

      Faint with desire.

    • http://twitter.com/coheny Coelha

I could wear those dresses to bed, as long as I got to wear them! The lack of venue really isn’t the issue here, it’s more a lack of money :)

    • adnama79

      So pretty!  <3

    • adnama79

I want the first dress in the series, the one with the shear overlay over a strapless shift.  I want it so very, very much.

    • bitterk

I really like these looks, especially the dresses.

    • DesertDweller79

That first row would be so perfect for a wedding I have to go to the first week of March.  Sigh.  If I start saving up now, could I afford one of them?
