Ashley Madekwe Double Shot

Posted on December 03, 2012

We think it’s fair to say our asses, they are dragging this day. Chalk it up to a weekend so full of real-world activities and errand-running that it didn’t feel like weekend at all. Let’s all turn to Ashley for our perk-me-up needs.

Ashley Madekwe attends The Hollywood Foreign Press Association and InStyle Miss Golden Globe 2013 Party in Los Angeles in a Burberry Prorsum dress.

Burberry Prorsum Fall 2012 Collection

Very pretty. She kept everything, from her face to her accessories relatively low key so that the dress could do the heavy lifting. And speaking of heavy, this dress could look very much so, but she’s pulling it off. Lorenzo thinks it looks better with the bows and the sash, but Tom is not in agreement on that one at all, although the shot of brown does make a nice contrast.

But wait! There’s more!

Ashley Madekwe attends the 2012 Trevor Live! event in Los Angeles in a Kimberly Ovitz dress paired with Christian Louboutin sandals.

Kimberly Ovitz Spring 2013 Collection

Gotta give it to the girl: she can switch it up. We think in this case, she could have – and probably should have – picked accessories with a little more oomph, especially in the jewelry department. Still, that soft grey looks amazing on her. By all rights, we should hate that skirt, because we’re usually quite adamantly against asymettrical hems, but it’s working for us here. Not entirely sold on the neckline, which looks like it sits a little low.

Now that we’re all perked up, we can use Miss Ashley’s presence as a launching point to let all those who care about such things know that, due to a cable outage, we didn’t get to see last night’s Revenge OR Walking Dead, which means both those recaps will have to wait until tomorrow. Sorry, darlings.

Uuhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh having to wait a day for Walking Dead recap!!! But thanks for update. And yes, no idea who she is, but she looks great. WTG, starlet!

    • leftcoastpickle

I was just thinking the same thing! I have no idea who this girl is, but many people I have heard of should take note of her awesome style!

  • I think the first dress looks way better without the bows

  • Sobaika

The brown bows and sashes would have looked ridiculous in real life I think. She’s very pretty and certainly wears clothes very well!

  • erinbinek

I’ve been waiting all morning for the Walking Dead post.  I just don’t know how I’m going to wait until tomorrow.  🙁

  • #1: the slightly loose fit is perfect! and im glad she took the dead leaves off the shoulders.

  • HomeOfficeGirl

She looks super cute in both – but the first is kind of mature – especially with the longer skirt length.  The second look works so much better – young, fresh.  You BETTER have those shoulders and arms (and tiny bust) to wear a top like that.  So many others would look like idiots wearing that dress.

    • kimmeister

Yes, she has the absolute perfect shoulders to carry off that fussy neckline.

  • royinhell

At least now I can stop reloading your page to read the Walking Dead recap and only finding ugly dresses on women I’ve never heard of…

    • Oh no! Fashion evaluations in a fashion blog! Such terribleness.

      • royinhell

Geez- sorry for offending you.  I guess you didn’t come here before it became the “fashion blog”.  I was only wanting to read a WD recap and then the various opinions of it… if I had my say, T&L would go back to Runway recaps and Musical Mondays.  But as I’m not paying their bills or writing my own blog, could I at least have my little bitch?

And I still have no idea who the hell that woman is (nor do I care).

My first reaction was to ohnotheydidnt, but i realized its just zombie lovers giving TLO some love, the best way they know how…

  • f_yeah_marie

She looked so good in that red dress in last night’s episode.

Thanks for mentioning the delay in the recap; I can stop frantically refreshing now and actually get to work 😉

    • gabbilevy

She did, but she looks better here. Which is good, because I was gettin rul annoyed with Ashley (the character), so it’s good that Ashley (the actress) is lookin’ fresh.

  • Yes! To the gray!! I absolutely love this color and thinks it looks great on us darker-skinned women. The plummy lip color is perfect. And yes to the delicate, not overly-strappy strappy sandals. She could have gotten this so wrong with trendier, chunkier shoes (either in straps or heel). But she got it so right. I don’t even know who this person is but I love her style.

  • I prefer the Burberry but I am glad she got rid of the shoulder bows. Could have coped with some sort of belt though.

  • G

You are in for a lot of fun re:  Walking Dead.  Enjoy!

  • Fully agree with Tom on the first dress: the bows and sash were to the detriment of the lovely dress. Great looks, both.

  • Qitkat

I liked the bows too, but dress works without them. A nice call for shoes might have been to do them in soft brown suede.
For some reason she bugs me, not irrational hate, but annoyance. Don’t know rightly why, hence irrational ;-0
I love the shade of grey on the second dress, but it is too long on her, and does need statement jewelry.
On the original dress, are those odd shadows, or that particular version? Because I really really like that overall effect. Mysterious.

    • Qitkat

I just found the answer to my own question by following the link to the collection. Digital printing.
I love almost this entire collection, and in my fantasy life, am ordering the collection and the body to fit in it, as well as booking a vacation on a fantastic cruise ship stopping in several ports in the Greek Isles. I’m considering inviting Hugh Jackman to come along.

      • formerlyAnon

A robust fantasy life is just what a dull, dutiful day needs, isn’t it?  I enjoy my life immensely, but I have to admit there are days when my make-believe boyfriend and the social life in which we indulge perk up an otherwise hard-to-get-through hour.

P.s. I’d say invite Hugh. You can always buy him a plane ticket home if you tire of each other.

        • Qitkat

          You got it. *grin*

I am mired in dutiful duties, trying, once again, to organize what has become unorganizable, for me, a room, that has to serve as multipurpose, and as soon as it gets whipped into shape, along comes the stealth clutter monster gleefully wreaking new havoc.

  • Lola67

I didn’t see last night’s Walking Dead either, so I’m relieved I don’t have to avoid it here. I love prolonging the agony!
I think she looks gorgeous in both of these. Glad she got rid of the shoulder bows, but would have like to see it with the belt. LOVE the bright lips.

  • dress_up_doll

I just adore Ashley. She and my darling eighteen year old niece could be twins. Personally, I love the Burberry with the bows and belt. However, Ashley looks good in it without. The Kimberly Ovitz looks divine on her. She looks great in this shade of grey and the silhouette is perfect for her figure. Love her!

  • Trisha26

That Burberry Prorsum dress is horrible (the bows and belt make it even worse). It’s way too long for her, that print is aging, it’s just wrong. The Kimberly Ovitz is very cool! I love it with the sheer overdress on the model, too.

  • Ceur

I love the first one and I think she looks better than the model.

  • greyhoundgirl

Dress is much better without brown fuzzy belt and bows.  The second dress is elegant and interesting.  Anyone else think this beautiful woman looks a little like Rashida Jones?

  • judybrowni

    No to shoulder bows, always!

Belt was uuuuggly , as well.

  • mommyca

oh no… cable outage on Sunday night? that’s the worst ever!!!!! I guess we have to be patient for your recap, especially The Walking Dead one…. Enjoy the show!!!

  • Glad she ditched the bows.

  • Dagney

That first dress looks like it came from Joan Collins’ closet.

  • Judy_J

I’m in agreement with Tom on this one.  The dress looks better to me without the bows and belt.

  • LJCdoc

Tom is so correct on that first dress.

  • crash1212

She’s absolutely killing it in that last look. I love the red nails and lip with the soft gray. Beautiful!

  • MilaXX

Confession time; I cannot stand this one. She is the very definition of irrational hate.  I tried to fight it. Last season I either ignored her or dissed her busted weaves.  This season was harder, they gave her more to do and she’s not playing Macbeth, but she holds her own. Still every RC appearance had her looking like her character from the show.  At some point last night, I realized I just don’t like her. Probably around the time they red shirted the oh so average black guy. So today I have to give her some props. She looks great in both shots and looks nothing like the wannabe Hampton socialite she plays. Still can’t stand her, so I doubt I’ll compliment her again

  • formerlyAnon

Agree with you on all fronts – Team Tom version.

  • She’s a gorgeous girl. I would love the first dress more if it hit just above the knee.

  • I think the neckline is sitting low cause she so tiny.  She’s much shorter-waisted than the model.  Do couture garments come in petite?

  • Tatiana Luján

I like the second look, but the first dress is too long and the shoes are ugly.
In the first look, Ashley looks as if she had dressed up with clothes that belonged to her grandmother when she was young. If the first dress hit just right above the knee ans the shoes were better, it would have been a beautiful look.

  • Cathy S

I’m with Lorenzo on the first dress. I miss the bows and the belt–they’re interesting and pretty. That second dress is killer though.

  • She is just so cute and gorgeous that, even though I’ve never seen her act, I just love her and thinks she looks great in anything.

  • I think the first dress looks better without all the frippery, although I do think it’s a skosh too long.  And the second dress might have looked a bit better with the shear overly (I cannot believe I’m saying that). As is, it makes her look very flat-chested and broad-shouldered. It’s not horrendous, just not to my taste.

(Aside: Is anyone else having comment problems today? Half the things I want to comment on show comments, but they look odd and there’s no white comment box available.)

  • ellabob

The girl needs to learn how to stand!  She is so hunched forward – drives me crazy….

  • LauraWL

I agree the first dress looks better with the belts and bows and the sleeves pushed up. Now it looks heavy and I hate the print. Also, the dress is too long. I also think the model’s sheer tights and booties would have been a better shoe choice. The way it looks now is very safe and funeral(ish). I love the second dress though and like the toned down accessories, which read very Calvin Klein 90s to me.

  • Well, do to a DVR hiccup (in which it randomly removed about a half dozen series from my list) I missed Revenge last night.  Thank goodness for On Demand.

  • RocknRollmom

Take the Burberry’s hem up bay about 3 inches and give it to me.  It is a great dress for a nice older lady like me.  She looks great in it, but it is a little too old. But would be perfect for me and my curvy mature figure!  And definitely without those silly bows (sorry Lorenzo).  Though I would kill for the model’s gloves!   The second dress is perfect.  Not my color so I will let her keep it.  And yes statement earrings would have been great.  Have no idea who the child is but a number of her youthful compatriots should hire her stylist.

  • decormaven

This little gal is pulling it off on both looks. The first dress would show better if hemmed, but that second gown is fitted well. Snaps of respect!

  • DinahR

She looks beautiful, both looks.  I’m glad she didn’t use the sheer overdress for the second look.

  • claudemtl777

I like the sash, not the bows (What makes it a sash and not a belt? I need to know…I’m just saying sash because y’all are…Is it the bow?)
Clothes look good on her, in general. She definitely is enjoying that part of her job. She’s Saldana Jr….
The second look looks much better the way it is on the runway. Stll nice and sharp anyway

  • I think the first dress looks better without the bows and also looks like something you could have bought at any local Macy’s. I’m not seein’ it. It reads as ‘bleh’ to me. The second dress is super cool. I love it and I love it on her. I even love the over-lay on the model. I am not familiar with Kimberly Ovitz at all but seeing this dress makes me want to see more of her designs.

  • Anathema_Device

Looooove that first dress. So pretty, and the colors are fab. The second dress is kind of meh. She looks very pretty, but I like the full version with the ombre sheer overlay. That was interesting.

  • first look:  love the deep purple and the long sleeves, but would prefer it shorter, just below the knee.

second:  dress fits like a glove, very interesting shapes.  i would love to see the ombre on her as well.  hate those comb-over donald trump bangs.

  • Allison Woods

I love the first dress with the styling, but it looks old to me without the accessories. The second dress is killer, both with and without the overdress. Without, I agree with les oncles that it needs bold accessories.

  • Emily Roach

I’m with Lorenzo on the bows, but a lot of that might be the size -00 model. I’m just fascinated by her eyes- they’re such a different brown that they look red! Love. And I don’t even know her from anything.

  • glennethph

She always looks like she can’t blend her foundation or she chooses a shade lighter — wither way, she looks like Casperina, the friendly ghost.

  • Isana Leshchinskaya

love love LOVE that nail color

  • frankystein123

She needs to shorten the first dress to her knees, like the model; otherwise, awesome.

  • Sweetvegan

“due to a cable outage, we didn’t get to see last night’s Revenge OR Walking Dead,”  Wow, I had no idea you relied on cable! I kinda thought you were getting screeners in advance for all of these shows!

  • jorinde

i don’t know who she is, but both dresses look better in her than on the runway.

  • RzYoung

Wow! Both of these outfits are glorious! I love the strappy shoes with the grey dress, they compliment it’s neckline. Her eyes are the most incredible shade of brown – almost red!

  • littlemac8

Can we pay her to not dye her hair blonde???!!!  She is such a pretty brunette and I would hate to see her fall prey to the “blondes have more fun” Hollywood habit!

  • mmc2315

GREAT color on her!  (second dress)

  • She’s really working both looks. I’m glad she ditched the silly bows, because they looked like they were tacked on with velcro.

  • I’m really smitten with this grey dress on her. This dress and some well placed egyptian gold accessories would do great things for each other. Hair and makeup, perfect. The first look, I can’t really get worked up about.

  • ojosazules

Those bows would eat this tiny little thing for lunch. She looks fabulous in both outfits.

  • The wine-red nails and that particular color of grey are a fantastic combo–girl is working these looks!

  • amaranth16

Who is this woman and how is she so adorable?! That first dress is lovely – is it possible to say it reminds me of upholstery in a good way? Wish the second one had a straight (and slightly higher) hem and wish the bodice were riding a bit higher, but love the color (and her lip color).

  • ShayShay

Ok, see this chick here, she has the color and complexion to pull off a grey frock.  Show em how it’s done girl!!! Snaps.

  • guest2visits

She did better than the model on both counts.  Very pretty.  Bows on the shoulders look crazy!
