She’s got a freaking charm bracelet around her neck. What is it that Tim says? “Chacun a son gout”? This one’s definitely not to my taste.

    • 3boysful

My gout loves the collar.  Guess that’s what keeps us from all showing up in identical dresses.

Just not, as all have pointed out, the wrinkly fabric.

  • I love the shades, but the dress’s positive elements are overshadowed by wrinkles; they’re all I see.

    •  True dat!   Wow does that textile wrinkle easily if all it took was one short ride in a limo.

      • Maybe she took the bus.

        • Then she should have stood, instead of sitting.
I’m loving the image of Anny Hathaway taking the bus across LA.

      • DTLAFamilies

They sit during the star ceremony (yes, there’s a star ceremony). Still agree it shouldn’t be that wrinkled.

      • Jecca2244

What material is that that it wrinkled so! you are the textile expert : )

        •  Mkay, so, I took another good long look, and from what I can make out in the images, I’m thinking it might be a lightweight linen and wool blend, or possibly a raw silk blend with poly.  Both of which are usually very wrinkle prone.

    • FrayedMachine

I know! I actually really like the dress. I’d be in love with the look, though, if the dress weren’t so wrinkled.

    • alyce1213

I’d like to call a moratorium on the wrinkle comments, please. There is SITTING at this event, not just a short ride in a limo, and some wrinkling is forgivable. Give it rest, she’s not a crumpled mess, after all.

      • I was the second commenter, and pointed out that the wrinkles made it hard for me to appreciate the look. Tom & Lorenzo frequently point out wrinkles too. It isn’t as though this comment section has become “OMG WRINKLES WTF BBQ!!!!111!,” so I would suggest that since this is a fashion blog–and we are here to comment on the fashion–that calling a moratorium on talking about an aspect of this look in a fashion blog is silly. The comments were all good-natured. “Give it a rest” is a bit obnoxious of a reply, don’t you think?

        • alyce1213

Such offense taken and how unkind a reply! Look, I was simply dismayed by the number of continuing, repetitive comments about a problem I didn’t think was all THAT bad and for me did not overshadow the appropriateness and good taste of the dress for this event, which involved sitting. It’s my opinion.  “Give it a rest” are not exactly fightin’ words, so no, I don’t feel what I said was a bit obnoxious, or not nearly as obnoxious as “they’re all I see.”  (Exaggerate much?)

  • thecitysleeps

I love her hair, her earrings and sunglasses.

    Her dress, a bit less.

  • ThaliaMenninger

    No. Just no.

  • Mismarker

I hate everything going on here except for those fabulous sunglasses.

    • MissAnnieRN

apparently made by KAREN from Will & Grace 😉

      • Meg0GayGuys6

    •  I don’t even like them.

      • kimmeister

Agreed, I think they look stupid and that Karen Walker from W&G wouldn’t be caught dead in them.

  • ChaCha_70

Too bad the dress is a bit wrinkled. Despite the wrinklage, I’m loving it on her. Hate the shoes. Love the shades but don’t think that they go with the ensemble. Love her hair!

  • Lochery

She looks SO much like my mother did in the 80s, it’s always such a distraction haha.

  • l_c_ann

Miss Yancey, fresh from teaching fourth graders, puts on her Christmas indulgence sunglasses and enjoys the sunlight.

  • MarissaLG

Unfortunate about the wrinkles, but i really like this look overall.

  • alyce1213

Very classy and professional of her to choose a subdued, non-flashy dress for Hugh Jackman’s star ceremony.
She’s been going overboard pole dancing — lap dancing, really — in outrageous, showy things, and this is quite chic and appropriate.

    • greyhoundgirl

I was thinking that, too, alyce.  Still stylish but not taking any limelight.  Appropriate.

      • DaringMiss

I agree. It is flattering, interesting enough and seasonally appropriate.

    • H3ff

Didn’t she go to another celeb’s ceremony recently? It seems to me that she wants to get some of the attention.

      • alyce1213

Yes, and I googled to be sure — Christopher Nolan, the director of The Dark Knight Rises, last summer.
Well of course she wants to get some of the attention — she’s a celebrity.  Isn’t that why they go anywhere, for attention?  My point was that she wore something subdued, so as not to steal thunder. She wore a simple black dress at the Christopher Nolan event as well.

        • H3ff

In fairness, she’d only have been called out for it if she had worn a flashy red dress. In any case, I doubt either Christopher Nolan or Hugh Jackman gave a fuck that she was there.

  • Natalie Bryan

I usually like her looks, but I’m not a fan of this.

  • Introspective

dress is quite wrinkly indeed, but Im more concerned with it being too big on her. She needed this to be a more fitted sheath to sell this look. and maybe a better fit might have reduced the wrinkles (?)  The ill fitting dress plus the horse hoof shoes are making my eyes twitch.

but the hair looks good and the shades are KILLA.

  • R. L.

  • Annabelle Archer

She is putting the ‘fun’ in funeral dress.

  • Wendi126

Not sure if borrowing someone else’s dress for a funeral is what she had in mind

  • judybrowni

The shades give her googly eyes: if a movie star can’t make ’em work, forget them.

Dress: ho hum, so many vintage-look secretary dresses being turned out by designers, who can’t be bothered to make ’em in wrinkle-free material.

    Minnie Mouse shoes.

    Love you, Annie, but not.

  • tallgirl1204

At first I didn’t like it either, but then I realized she’s trying not to pull focus from Mr. Jackman.  Which is kind of impossible becuase she’s freaking Anne Hathaway, but nice try.

  • schadenfreudelicious

all i see is a very creased dress and some very unflattering sunglasses….

  • Dot

Dress is a bit ill-fitting, but I think she looks fabulous nonetheless.

  • MilaXX

She looks like she’s going to a funeral. Hate the shoe.

  • MsBusy

    Wrinkled and trying too hard.

  • Rand Ortega

Anyone for more pictures of Hugh?

  • hughman

Please tell me I’m not the only won who always reads “Karen Walker” sunglasses and thinks “Hmm, I wonder if Grace Adler wears these?”

  • Don’t like the dress or the wrinkles. Don’t like the shades. Meh.

  • formerlyAnon

Subtract wrinkles and general air of not fitting right, switch out shoes and it could’ve been a stunner for me. Love the collar/glasses combo with her hair.

  • Is it just me or does it look like she put a coat on backwards?  Maybe it is the shoulder seams doing this to me?

  • Sara__B

Most people are loving the sunglasses but I think they look comically bad. Once she takes them off, she looks great, wrinkles (she’s human!) and all.

  • Monday1900

The dress seems a little formal for the event–maybe she was trying to lighten it with the sunglasses but I don’t think it works.  Odd outfit.

  • Ick! Out! the glasses look like a gag gift, the dress looks like it hurts to wear, the collar looks like some kind of shock-device (maybe is buzzes every time she gets with in range of a Oscar Voter so she can go say hello?)…and the hair? nicest thing I can say is “its growing out”….

  • another_laura

The sunglasses are not doing it for me.  And the dress, it is looking like a schmatta knock-off of a Prada, not a Prada.

  • elleg929

    HATE the sunglasses.

  • Pants_are_a_must

    “Anne Hathaway in Prada? Ooh!

Oh. Anne Hathaway in ill-fitted Prada. Oh.”

  • golf clap to the dress. It’s fairly standard with some embellishments and poorly fitted. Those sunglasses are silly though. Not quite the statement piece they should be with this dress.

  • nancylee61

The dress is nice, but the length is all wrong. Shorter, Annie, just a little shorter. This is an Old Fart length.

I like the sunglasses. They are kind of silly!

  • fringebenefit

Adore her, love this look, wrinkles and all.

  • B_C_J

The dress is too large therefore the fit is off. The glasses are very cool but they do not go with the overall look. Her hair is wonderful.

  • YoungSally

I need new glasses (after being blinded by Hugh)….I swore it said Vegan shoes by ALPO

  • Imasewsure

The glasses are fun but the outfit only looks good when she takes them off

  • Trisha26

Hate the shoes, hate the sunglasses (they both look cheap). But I really hate that the dress is creased – makes the celeb look bad and makes the style team seem clueless, lazy or both. Pick a better fabric.

  • Judy_J

That dress was not made for sitting for extended periods of time.  The front of the skirt looks awful.  I do love the collar on that dress.

  • Candigirl1968

These overly cute outfits don’t work for me.  Michelle Williams should get a patent on this look – nobody pulls it off as well.
And, given that this is an outdoor (harsh sunlight) venue, she needed an outfit that didn’t wrinkle so noticeably.

  • Hate the shades, but otherwise she looks cute.

  • ankali

Cute. I’d like to see the waist more cinched and the dress less wrinkled, but in all I think she looks chic and low-key.

  • SewingSiren

Check plus. She looks very nice.

  • DTLAFamilies

The smug smile ruins everything. I used to like her but something’s gone sour ever since she started gunning for Oscar.

    • Magatha

Wait, what? What actor is *not* gunning for Oscar? Why is this a smug smile? How can you not love her or at least respect her after her brilliant response to stupid Matt Lauer? Jeepers.

  • kikisayshi

I love it! Especially the shades.

  • julnyes

I think the sunglasses are cute, but don’t really go with the rest of the outfit.

  • jmorino08

Dear Santa, I want those sunglasses in my stocking.

  • jw_ny

dress seems a bit to funeral-ish for such an occasion.   I like the shades on her tho.

  • decormaven

Those are some seriously cheap looking embellishments on the collar, and the dress needs a major pressing. The glasses are cute, but not with that look.

  • marilyn

Sorry, the cute sunglasses do not save the drab 19560’s mommy dress.  She is starting to look like Miss Marple again.

  • SO wish they were THE Karen Walker’s collection.  With Jack McFarland working at her 5th Avenue store……: D

  • dickylarue

She looks like Matthew Broderick in a dress here.

  • somebody blonde

Not much for the dress, but LOVE those shades.

  • Is she going to Sunday meeting with John Proctor? The sunglasses do not save this from Puritan frumposity.

  • bitterk

Is this because of the crotch shot?

  • guest2visits

Oh no.. I am so sad about this matronly dress.   Only the haircut sustains me.  (says the Countess Grantham)

  • Stubenville

This is hideous and cheap looking. Remind me again why people like Prada?

  • The collar looks like native American jewelry to me – Zuni to be specific.

  • Gimme my Oscar already! Gimme my Oscar already!

  • pookiesmom

I feel like her hair should have it’s own blog. It is FABULOUS.

  • quiltrx

I like the collar, but then the whole dress goes so wrong.  I can’t put my finger on what is wrong around the waist, but it’s making her look SO wide, which she certainly is not.

I wouldn’t usually like such shades, but for some reason they’re working here.  A bit of an Elton John vibe.

  • RzYoung

The dress seems a bit severe for day time but the hair and the sunnies are wicked good so it’s an IN from me…if it were and In or OUt situation

  • The collar looks like Zuni (Native American) jewelry to me.

  • Trying on Mommy’s dress….

  • Rebecca Jay

    Those sunglasses are high-larious.

  • Uh oh. I thought 5 was going to be my limit for pairs of Karen Walker sunglasses. Dammit, Anne.
