i love it. poor girl must want a nap though!

      • 3boysful

My thought, too–she must want to pull on some sweats and sit at home with a pint of Ben & Jerry’s.

    • Vickiefantastico

That is doing NOTHING for her figure.

      • kschwarting

That was my first thought too.  On the plus side, she’s wearing less fashiony makeup and looks more natural than she has in days.

        • bitchybitchybitchy

I think that one thing Hathaway has going for her is that megawatt smile.  This dress looks like a really tough one to wear-there’s a saggy quality to the bodice and somehow the embellishments on the skirt are dragging it down.

      • Vtg Fashion Library

Exactly!  Her boobage looks like it’s melting.

        • kimmeister

Not as bad as the model’s though!

      • ankali

Yeah, she looks frumpy. Frumpy! In a sequined, spaghetti-strapped cocktail dress!

        • Vickiefantastico

          Bizarre, isn’t it?

      • Angelica Smith Mertens

Anne is so not fat, but this is making it look like she has a stomach pooch…the color and sparkle is pretty though….

    • Anne StJean

A little too saggy at the top, the shoes are sort of boring, and her hair is starting to become awkward. But this looks nice, compared to that weird halloween costume she wore the other day.

    • Jessica TallGirl Freeman

This is a sad dress. Even the sequins are trying to melt off of it.

    • Katrin

I’v been in love with everything sparkly here lately, but the shoes are too summer-y for me.

    • Anathema_Device

I know it is the design, looking at the runway pic, but I want to hoist it all up by an inch or two. Pretty dress, otherwise. Not loving the shoes.

      • foodycatAlicia

Hoist it up and maybe slightly wider straps? I’m not sure about the way the sequins pool in her lap.

        • Anathema_Device

I think it just isn’t fitting her right through the body. The thin straps are okay by me b/c this is a barely-there, lingerie-inspired look. But look at how the runway version is more cinched at the waist.

          • Mismarker

I also like the delicate straps but they are just too long for her short torso.  Love the hair and soft makeup.  Oh, Anne.  You may just win me over again.  Let’s see how she navigates awards season…

        • gsk241

I was thinking the same thing.  I like it, but it needs real straps.

        • Corsetmaker

Yeah, sequins are heavy and those straps aren’t up to it – or they need a more secure anchor at the back

    • Kim Sheehan

She looks like the glitter fairy spilled on her.

      • MinAgain

        Or vomitted on her.

    • Sobaika

Pretty! Excellent makeup here, it’s preventing her from looking too washed out. The Fanning girls should get Anne’s people.

    • Sara__B

As usual, Anne is giving good face, but I don’t much like the color of the dress or the way the sequins are applied.

      • kimmeister

The pattern on the sequins is just too busy.

    • captrenault

The model wears it much more crisply, as a distinct two-piece.  On Anne, the top droops and it all becomes an unflattering blob.

    • Jackie4g

She has no figure in that dress. What a waste.

    • jenuwefa

I heard she had a Marilyn Monroe/no undies mishap last night? Was it this dress?

      • l_c_ann

No, it was the black garbage bag dress with the knee brace, shin guard, leather sandle shoes when the fine china got full display getting out of the limo.
Damn, I can’t believe I typed that (or that it may give you a correct remembrance of the ‘fashion’.

        • AuntJentie

I read about the mishap and was so hoping TLo would pass along something snarky, but LOVE your observation!

        • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Was she at least wearing underwear?

        • TRSTL

Yes, that was an unfortunate little flashing mishap, wasn’t it?  Kudos to her for handling it so gracefully when Matt Lauer, in a very ungentlemanly move, brought it up on TODAY.  She handles the awkward question with class, IMHO.

    • Liza E

It’s not an appropriate outfit for the middle of winter, but beyond that, it looks like a bad dance recital outfit that I wore in the 80s.  If you took the weird sequins off and made it a different color, it would be a nice summer dress.

    • MilaXX

Pretty, but not her dress. The fabric is too close to her skin tone. I dislike that sandal with it.

    • Judy_J

Too droopy….both the top and skirt.

    • Tatiana Luján

      unflattering paired with boring shoes.

    • Ruth Preston

It looks like it’s melting, and taking her with it. Yank the straps up a bit, take the hemline up a bit, and lose the unflattering shoes.

And sweetie, even Serious Actresses sometimes wear color on their toesies. Come on. Meryl says it’s okay.

    • Introspective

nice idea, but she looks like a sequined block around the waist. that plus the awkward length is doing her figure no justice.

more cinching and a higher hem would have done wonders for it.

    • afabulous50

Awful – it looks like someone threw that glitter on her dress..was that the intention??

    • lehen

      pretty! sparkles!

    • MajorBedhead

It looks like someone vomited sequins all over her.

    • nannypoo

I suppose when you’ve been appearing everywhere all the time angling for attention and it’s accompanying awards you are eventually going to get sick of it all and say “Oh hell, I’ll just bedazzle the shower curtain and hang it over my sagging tits”. This could happen to anyone.

      • Introspective

bedazzled curtain on saggy tits FTW!!!

this really does reek of exhausted poledancer at the end of a forever-long shift of “give me that Oscar now” action. she and the stylists have lost steam.

    • l_c_ann

Ugliest peplum of the year, so far.

    • Kate4queen

Um no, the dress looks like parts of her innards are seeping out and traveling downward staining her flesh.

    • Kiltdntiltd

Not loving on this.  The proportions are off for her. it looks like its about to slip to the floor, and not in a coquettish/sexy way.

    • bittykitty

As your fairy blog sisters said, it looks like she’s molting…

    • Rhonda Shore

      an unfortunate 70s-ish dress…

    • EverybodysStarling

Looks like Freddie Kruger ripped the sequins of her top off.

    • MinAgain

That is not a pretty dress.

    • SewingSiren

The straps look a little too long, but other than that it is perfect for the occasion, of  an Oscar seeking actress honoring her co-star kind of event.

    • ChiKat67

The dress matches both her skin tone & hair color, think it would be more visually interesting on a person of color. However , I’m glad she put the sartorial crazy on pause for this event so there’s that.

    • HomeOfficeGirl

I can’t defend the dress, but my first thought was “pretty!”.  I’m going to leave it at that because the more I look – the less I like

    • LadyCelia

Looks like the folks at Nina Ricci took a page from Stella on the “It looks good on paper” school of fashion design.

    • Sarah Tyrchniewicz

My first thought was “how is this not a ‘Girl, that is not your dress!’ post?”

    • Imasewsure

Hate the washed out color on her, hate the straps… might have been cute as separates (or as many have noted, with a better fit and more substantial straps). Not loving it at all even though it is glittery and shiny (drawn to it like a moth to a flame)

    • LauraWL

This is weird. And I like it. Also, her makeup looks perfect with this look. My only quibble is that this is more a summer look then a winter look. And I’m pretty sure its winter in NYC.

    • marilyn

She is great from the neck up.  That dress does nothing for her.  It is a bad color too.   Is part of the problem that it is a little too big on her?  The runway model was wearing it and it looked passable for her figure, but it was more fitted than on AH.  The bad flesh color is pretty much the kiss of death for the whole outfit.

    • NDC_IPCentral

Bad bodice, and a TLo sin: unicolor.

Sorta looks like an industrial sized box of sequins spilled onto her lap and stuck.

    • LuxuryLime

Love the dress, hate the shoes. So boring!

    • crush on you

Love the skirt, but that top is doing absolutely no favors to her shape. Wrong color / shape / fit.

    • Unkempt

Dress is cute enough.  I’ll bet she’s wearing a Depends underneath, though.  That haircut is just perfect.

    • stacey avelar

It looks like a gift bag for something large, and in the dark, she mistook it for her dress????

    • MsOlympia

Maybe this is one of those dresses that looks better in person.

    • marlie

I love it. Yes, it’s a nude color, but the sequin details keep it from approaching the land of BLAH. Cute little clutch and scrappy heels, too.

    • Gayer Than Thou

Is it springtime in New York City?

    • Tamara Hogan

I give her a huge amount of credit for continuing to work the PR pole after that mortifying wardrobe malfunction a couple of days ago. That said, the bodice of this dress isn’t very flattering. LOVE the clutch.

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

      Glitter fug.

    • Jennifer Coleman

Anne Hathaway Fatigue is setting in. She does not bug me that much, but once or twice a day of her until Christmas is going to become aggravating. And there is nothing that can be done about it – she’s doing the Poledance and has the best clothing allowance by far of any actress out there right now. Oh well, better start sucking it up.

    • mmc2315

I’m not in love with the nude fabric.  My biggest objection is to the proportions.  The low neckline with skinny straps plus the glitter heavy bottom is pulling my eye down.  It’s off balance.

Not her best!  Send back the pom-pom balls on the sleeves!

    • E. D.

Bring the front up a couple of inches, but otherwise she looks great.

    • TRSTL

Unfortunately, she was not.  Apparently, the dress was awfully fitted(?) in a way that VPL was an issue.  Check out her response to Matt Lauer on TODAY when he had the bad taste to bring it up.  She handled it with class.

    • LesYeuxHiboux

What is with her and these little spaghetti-strap dealies all of a sudden? She has a lovely neck and shoulders but I don’t think this neckline/strap shape she keeps defaulting to shows them to their best advantage. Furthermore, it’s DECEMBER, and that neckline belongs a cover-up for the beach in Mexico.

I thought it was pretty at first but the longer I look, the more rage-y I feel. WHO PLACED THOSE SEQUINS?!

Her shoes, jewelry, and clutch are all quite pretty.

    • Pamela H

Please tell me that the paparazzi are taking pictures of other actors out there.

    • maggiemaybe

Uh oh. Someone dropped a tray of sequins-filled drinks down the front of her dress.

    • formerlyAnon

She looks lovely and I kind of sort of almost like the dress, but . . . No matter how much posture she deploys, there’s something droopy about the top, and it looks more “I am wearing a sophisticated dress” than “I am a sophisticated woman in a lovely dress.”

    • decormaven

Sequins look like bees on a honeycomb. Color too close to her skin tone. Not a wow for me.

    • formerlyAnon

Thanks for the link. I’d never have heard/read the interview otherwise and it sounds as if Ms. Hathaway handled herself very well.

    • Ass Kicking Adviser

I love the cut and color. The sparkles have to go. They look like my daughter glued them on with her hot glue gun. It’s Nina Ricci but it looks cheap. But really, the shape, the sandals, her hair – is all keeping me from the edge of despair.

    • librarygrrl64

I was thinking, “Ooooo, this is very pretty and a good choice for her (scrolled down). Hmmmmm….except maybe for the sandals; the straps look unflattering for some reas– oh, McCartney, okay. That explains it.”  😉

    • mhleta

I want to live in her closet. You think she’d mind?

    • Rebecca Jay

She looks like a Manny Quinn in that last pic.

    • glennethph

The gliterrry whatevers are unfortunatelu making her boobs looks saggy and mismatched.

    • PrunellaV

I’m sorry, anything that gives Anne Hathaway a beer gut is right out.

    • e jerry powell

      Okay.  Officially: OVEREXPOSED.

And I ain’t talking about the dress.  That thing exposes as much sternum as anything Bad Mommy would wear.

Anne, honey, 48 hours.  PLEASE.  Two days without popping out of your hole in the floor.

    • jmorino08

    • shanteUstay

Okay I get what the dress is trying to do. But it’s probably more suited for a performer or stage lighting…. Standing still, the dress doesn’t look that great. And poor Anne looks like she has on a glittery trash bag.

    • kikisayshi

I like this even less than the Batgirl dress from yesterday.

    • elzatelzabelz

I love it. Not the shoes, but the hair and dress are really working.

    • quiltrx

This is kind of a sack.  A 70s sack for a girl on a ledge considering whether or not to jump.

I wanted to like the sequin gimmick, but I just can’t.  It looks like she went through a cut in a chain link fence and lost half her shiny in the process.

    • Trisha26

      Sequined gunny sack.

    • bertkeeter

      Fire your stylist!

    • RzYoung

I think she suits the more dramatic looks with her strong features.

    • Judy_S

Don’t like it in these photos. It probably looks great in a party
atmosphere, with lower lights and more complicated backdrop. It’s a
dress for being looked at, more than for being photographed.

    • MightyMarshal

She looks like a ball sack.

    • Sara LaBatt

Wow the quote at the end of that article is pretty amazing.  Thanks for the link.

    • l_c_ann

Thank you, WordyDoodles, for a great link.

      • WordyDoodles

You’re welcome. I felt inspired by how well-thought and graceful her comments were. Insightful, compassionate and everything Matt Lauer didn’t bring to the interview. Glad to share it.

    • guest2visits

I like the idea of the dress; but mostly it just looks like a glittery bag from a PR challenge gone wrong.
      Anne looks gorgeous, though.

    • Nikki

the proportions and the pattern worked better on the model- it’s cinched too high and then too long on her.

    • Pam Winters

I don’t understand this dress. Is there a large discoloration in the apron area? Or is it weirdly reflective? It almost works for me, but I think I’d have to see it in person on a moving Anne.

    • Victoria Weinstein

She just turned into Joey Heatherton, or her long-lost sister, Lola Heatherton (god bless SCTV). I must admit, though, her hair is looking utterly fabulous lately.
