WERQ: Lucy Liu in Roland Mouret and Roberto Cavalli

Posted on November 09, 2012

Wow. Miss Lucy looks muthafuckin FABULOUS here:

Lucy Liu attends 2012 Women For Women International Gala in New York City in a Roland Mouret dress paired with a Roberto Cavalli cape and a Roger Vivier clutch.

Roberto Cavalli Fall 2012 Collection/Model: Izabel Goulart

Roger Vivier Pilgrim Palmettes Clutch

Every single thing is giving us major life here. The dress is simple, but dramatic. Love the neckline/shoulder and back. Love the jewelry, love the bag, LOVELOVELOVE the kickass coat. Our hearts are full of nothing but love right now. Lady Liu is looking FIERCE as SHIT – and THAT is high praise coming from these two queens. SNAPS of RESPECT, girl. WERQ!

This took my breath away. It’s so gorgeous!!! (coat) and edit — SHE is so gorgeous!

    • cooperalden

Never thought there would be a need to say this,  I thought she was gorgeous before (And the only one who deserved to be in the Charlie’s Angels reboot), but she has really come into her own ately.

      • Sobaika

I’ve been thinking the same – she was always beautiful and stylish, but there’s an extra oomph recently.

        • MilaXX

It’s like in the last year or two she has really stepped her game up

      • Dhammadina

And a long way since Ally McBeal. I had a dim memory of her as a close-mouthed control freak on that show. But then I just watched the “kiss” she and Ally McBeal had on YouTube. Still, she has come a long way.

  • mechanical_orange

So fierce both here and on Elementary.  That show is my new addiction.

    • Sobaika

Right?! I wasn’t expecting much but it’s so good!

    • JosephLamour

      WATSON BE LOOKIN’ FIERCE.

      (I had to.)

    • Celandine1

I am really loving that show right now, even more than the recent BBC series Shelock. But I am willing to try anything she is in because she’s so fierce!

    • julnyes

I really like JLM and Lucy Liu and I am a huge Sherlock Holmes fan so I am giving the show a shot. It is watchable, but it isn’t blowing me away yet. I want more chemistry between them (which might take a while to develop) and I wish the show felt less like a standard police procedural. I do love the nods to canon like the bee keeping and having a police officer named Gregson.

  • ToothCake

    Is she wearing clip-on earrings? I don’t know why…but I love it.

    • MoHub

Looks like it. So glad to see it. I’m not pierced, and my life has become a quest to find nice clip and screwback earrings. One craftsman I buy from was kind of hiding his clipbacks, and now that the word has got out that he makes them, they’re outselling the pierced ones.

      • Sashima

I think the earrings are omega clips – a combination of post and clip that are typically used on expensive and heavier earrings. They counterbalance the earring weight from the front to the back so they sit beautifully on the ear and the earrings are super-secure.

I also love how clean and bright her makeup is. She’s so awesome.

  • blogless

I LOVE everything but the cutouts in the back. And I don’t hate those just don’t love them.

Like that coat so much better with the black dress than the dress on the model.

  • elirt

The classiest cut outs I’ve ever seen. That coat is AMAZING!

  • marilyn

I am not understanding the coat.  If it is cold enough to need a coat, shouldn’t she want one with sleeves?  I am confused.  This looks like a poncho to me.  Obviously, since I don’t understand the ‘coat’, I don’t like it.

  • http://twitter.com/tangodiva Tanya Wade

    Now that’s a cut a bitch “cloak.”

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Julie-Chase/731391326 Julie Chase

DAMN. That dress is so gorgeous-and the bag is PERFECT with it.

  • mjude

    want the coat

  • wkdietz

And THAT is how you do cut outs. Full stop fabulous.

  • LesYeuxHiboux

She looks sharp as hell. Love the clutch, the eye makeup, the lines in the dress. She knows she looks good, too. J’adore Mlle. Liu.

  • eowyn_of_rohan

I want to be Miss Lucy when I grow up.  Damn, that Mouret dress looks amazing on her.

    • http://twitter.com/janedonuts Jane Donuts

He is my dream designer. Love everything about this.

  • SneakyKitty

LOVE.  HER.  Marry me, Lucy!  Or at least be my BFF or something.

  • Lisa Kramp

She is the definition of style and elegance. Truly, truly fabulous look.

  • Joyce VG

    WOW!

  • http://twitter.com/bfnh bfnh.

    that coat looks remarkably stupid.
which, is why, i’ve left this remark.
    stupid.

it’s like she murdered one of those giant owls from that movie with the giant owls that your kid wanted to see but you didn’t want to see because you find the idea of a giant, monstrous owl and it’s 360 degree spinning neck absolutely frightening and anyone that could murder one would be a severely fierce individual but she’d still look stupid if she turned those feathers into some sort of mystical coat w/forearm slits.

    • turtleemily

giant, monstrous owl and it’s 360 degree spinning neck

Now I’m imagining The Exorcist remade with owls.

  • poggi

I love it all.  She looks amazing.  I love how her makeup is so sheer you can see her beautiful freckles and skin through it.

  • MilaXX

I like everything about this look and I especially like that she no longer does her makeup to cover her gorgeous freckles. WERQ indeed!

  • littlemissstrange

She gives us a fierceness to strive for. Thank you, Miss Lucy!

  • In_Stitches

Her and Halle Berry have very similar bodies and are of similar age.  Clearly Lucy needs to give Halle a talking to about style and taste.

  • http://www.facebook.com/fiddlecub Kevin VanOrd

    To die.

  • judybrowni

Don’t love the drapery rod shoulders on the coat.

(Carol Burnett’s Gone with the Wind parody dress comes to mind.)

    But other than that: gorg.

  • Annabelle Archer

    spec-fucking-tacular

  • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

I full on gasped.  How that little slip of a thing is working that coat (when the model appears to be drowning) is a feat to behold.  Then she took it off? HELLO. That is an entrance.

  • unbornfawn

She looks absolutely radiant and perfect – Without that weird coat/cloak/curtain. I just can’t.

  • frannyprof

And she knows it! Confidence oozing out of every pore. Good for her.

  • Allison Woods

Love every single thing about it except that damned zipper.

  • gabbilevy

Bitch wears black better than anyone else walking the red carpets lately. She’s amazing.

  • granddelusion

Dress is fabulous; coat is ludicrous.

  • MintaHallWriter

She looks better in that coat than the runway model.  The black dress doesn’t fight with the fierceness of the coat the way the matchy-matchy runway look does.  GORGEOUS!

  • Judy_J

Total WERQ!  She’s fabulous from the top of her head down to the tips of her toes.

  • Lilithcat

    The coat is amazing.

The dress was great, too, until she turned around.  The cut-outs and visible zipper are horrendous.

  • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

What I love the most is that her stylist didn’t match the runway look exactly. Instead, they managed to put together a look with pieces from different designers that is just PERFECT.

  • luluransom

That bag is genius with that coat.

  • kimmeister

She is who I wish I got compared to when people say, “you look like so-and-so.”  (Unfortunately I’ve only gotten Lucy once.)

I do wish she filled in her brows just a bit.  Also, the cutouts are making the dress bunch up a little around her waist.  Everything else is awesome though.

  • Samantha Irene

    Gasp! Divine! Love her.

  • Zippypie

The dress is beautiful.  That cape thing looks like she has a dead bird wrapped around her.  Burn it.

  • everest19

Girl I am DEAD. WORK IT, MISS!

  • MaryAtRealityTea

Oh, this is a serious gasp. So. Fucking. Good. All of it.

  • Qitkat

That’s my girl. Adore her. Gimme that clutch. I would walk on hot coals for that.

Take note PR designers, these are elegant cutouts.

  • http://twitter.com/mk_patter Megano!

     Holy. shit. dat coat!

  • Vanja

*slow clap* I love everything about her.

  • decormaven

That’s a lot of look in that coat. I like the dress on its own, especially with the clutch. Who is her stylist? One smart cookie, for sure.

  • Patricia Gillett

One of the snappiest WERQs I’ve seen on this site. Fantastic all around.

  • http://www.twitter.com/allforusophia AllForUSophia

She simply did nothing wrong! LOVE the coat! There are no words.

  • ChaquitaPhilly

    WOW! I Love Lucy!

  • bitchybitchybitchy

Now, baby designers, take note-this is how you do a dramatic black dress with cutouts -the cutouts are discreet, and add a great element of surprise when Ms. Liu turns around. SNAP!

  • guest2visits

    This was beautiful and dramatic, head to toe. The only thing that stopped me about the coat was the double-breast buttons;
I like it alot more when you can’t see the buttons jumping out.

  • RzYoung

This look is a total knockout!

  • formerlyAnon

I think there needs to be a WERQ Summa Cum Laude awarded for this. This is a lifetime achievement award-worthy fashion moment.

LOVE the cape and in awe of how she anchored it with the gown. The stupendous-on-her gown.

Thank god I decided to ‘waste time’ going back & hitting the posts I didn’t have time for earlier this week.  I need moments like this to reinforce my fashion standards and not get lulled into thinking that clever mediocrity is “awesome.”

  • LambeeBaby

LOVE the dress! but the jacket looks like a sandwich board.

  • lesmaha

    gorgeous!!!

  • PeaceBang

She must be in love. That’s my explanation for the extra JEN SE QUOIE (I can’t spell it, sue me, I speak Spanish).

  • http://twitter.com/anywhoo Leigh David

Lovely woman with beautiful posture! LOVE LOVE LOVE that she is standing up straight!

  • quiltrx

DEFINITELY a WERQ…top to bottom!  I would feel SO fierce in that cape.  And that dress is nearly magical…with the perfect clutch topping it all off.

  • http://twitter.com/miss186 Allie

MY GOD this woman. It’s been almost ten years since watching her in Kill Bill Vol. 1 made me realize that I am not straight, and she hasn’t aged at all. WHY ARE YOU SO PERFECT AND ALSO NOT MY WIFE, LUCY LIU.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Sarah-Adams/1143985903 Sarah Adams

Besides everything else that’s working so well, I love, love, love that she didn’t cover up that faint smattering of freckles she has. They just add to her charm. I’m so glad she didn’t go for glossy, plastic looking make up.

  • Call me Bee

She’s really beautiful and this outfit is stunning.

  • julnyes

A complete WERQ and I loooove her freckles!

  • Mirakel9

I love that she never overdoes the make up, always looks elegant and lovely.

  • MattCooper27

    Flawless.

  • http://profiles.google.com/sauchih Sau-Chih Feng

Personally not that big on the coat, but EVERYTHING just works together so well. I LURVE that dress, I want it so much, and it’s hemmed to perfection. Great choice of a clutch.

I used to strongly dislike Lucy because of the Charlie’s Angels franchise, because she was basically Hollywood’s go-to for a sexy Asian (not that she isn’t one) without letting other girls have a shot at portraying my own ethnicity, and also that she was over-sexualized in most of her movies. I started liking her more after watching Lucky Number Slevin, she was so personable in that movie. Her cameos in Futurama were also incredibly on point, and I loved the satire of how she only comes in 3 settings. I’m interested to see her as Dr. Watson in the CBS show Elementary.

That said, I’d still cut her for that dress.

  • snarkykitten

Suck it, whiny Sherlock fans. Ms Watson is fierce

  • EEKstl

Stunning!  Only minor quibble: I wish she’d done a stronger lip.  That is all.

  • Jessica Goldstein

The dress is exactly the type of look I adore and is perfect for her. I never usually care about clutches, but that one is fantastic. And, as is usually the case with her, the makeup and hair are perfect. She’s classy, beautiful, and knows what she’s doing. She’s at Cate Blanchett level in my book, and I can offer no higher compliment.

  • librarygrrl64

Ladies and gentlemen, the reincarnation of Carole Lombard! Stunning.
