WERQ: Kelly Osbourne in Jean-Charles de Castelbaljac

Posted on November 30, 2012

Gotta say, we LOVE this dress.

Kelly Osbourne attends the W LOVE Hangover Ball in New York City in a Jean-Charles de Castelbaljac dress.

Jean-Charles de Castelbaljac Spring 2013 Collection

It’s clearly not an easy dress to pull off but it’s just as clear that she’s accomplishing it at least partially because it’s so her it could have been tailor-made for her. She loves super-tight, knee-length dresses with accentuated sleeves or shoulders and a metric shit-tonne of visual interest. This one fits the bill perfectly. AND it sets off her hair! You WERQ that shit, princess!

Something’s going on with the shoulder pieces, though.

    • Sobaika

Yup, one is a bit… deflated.

Still, I never thought of her as werq territory.

  • I want to see close ups of her nails!! They look amazing!

  • stardust462

I love the contrast between the dress and her hair. I wish she was against a different background so the dress would stand out from it more.

    • I agree on the background issue, I love this print! It’s like a toned down Mary Katrantzou, quite the fabulous frock and she was smart not to over accesorize.

  • decormaven

I’m on board for this look for her; I think it’s a personal best. Never a fan of her foot tats, but it’s her preference.

    • She looks fantastic and I just want to get this out in the ether: I think/hope she is sticking with the lavender hair forever; reminds me of Mollie Sudgen’s character in “Are you Being Served” – Osbourne exudes classic British posh-eccentric.

      • patticake1601

        Nice Mrs. Slocombe reference!

      • lundibleu

Yes! Though I’m now hoping to see Kelly turning up at a fancy dress event in full on Mrs Slocombe style punk… With her pussy, naturally.

  • Perfect dress for a Hangover Ball.

  • A. W.

A good outfit means you go out and google the designer’s name and work. I’ve never heard of Jean-Charles de Castelbaljac (probably because I have the fashion equivalent of a community college degree while most people here have a master’s from Harvard) but I want this dress!

    • Meg0GayGuys6

Oh you’re not the only one. I’m a proud graduate of Bitter Kitten Community College.  “Makin it Werq since ’06”

      • LOL to both of you. Brilliant.

      • mjude

bitter kitten community college…..bkcc.  LOVE IT!

        • akprincess72

I so want a shirt that says that…

          • Sara LaBatt

Me too!  I’d wear that shirt with PRIDE.

      • Kenisha Hill Phillips

Oh, I just enrolled. I have a lot to learn.

        • Meg0GayGuys6

Haha We’ll start you off with a semester of Hem Appreciation, The Rise and Fall of PR, and the discussion forum, Uterus Dresses: How Much Is Too Much?

          • Wendi126

When it has a pussy bow

          • Kenisha Hill Phillips

Not to worry, after a few weeks, I’ve already figured out the hem thing. I’ve seen few instances where tea or ankle length have worked. The dress always looks too small.

      • DeborahJozayt

I’m putting together the BKCC co-ed Softball team if anyone wants to join!

        • mjude

          i’m in!  we need t-shirts 🙂

          • DeborahJozayt

They have to compliment the pants, socks, and cleats, though. Nothing too matchy matchy!

          • Polka_Dotty

I think Kristen Stewart could hook us up.

    • greyhoundgirl

Master’s from Harvard?  I live in the same city as Harvard…..  There are people on this blog who are so articulate/funny/knowledgable about fashion but that don’t come from Harvard!  And I appreciate the opinions of the plain old fashion fans like us just as much!  Keep writing here!

      •  Hear, hear! I was a dozen-years denizen of the People’s Republic, myself.

        • Sara LaBatt

Ah, me too!  Still in the neighborhood.

      • Master’s from Harvard here. *raises hand* Divinity School, ’97. Bitter Kitten since ’06.

  • lalahartma

  • Jessi03

    I love her shoes, too.

  • nicole seligman

i am SO GLAD bb kelly got a werq. she’s in my top 5 fashionistas of 2012.

  • Did she have the pockets removed? It’s a great idea, and looks FANTASTIC on her.

The healthy-looking hair (which hasn’t always been the case since she went purple) helps a lot, too.

    • Janet B

I was looking for the hands in pockets pose, but it looks as if she doesn’t have the pockets.

  • Pants_are_a_must

That is the only, ONLY time her hair works with anything below it.

  • Wow, I love that dress. Without the shoulder treatment, it would make such a great work dress.

  • It certainly works for her.  And I’m finding that the less we see of the lavender hair, the better. I think that is why it’s working a little here.

  • MoHub

    Definite WERQ! Well done, Kelly.

  • Have always loved Jean-Charles de Castelbaljac, and this dress has that slimming voodoo, not the Kels really needs that anymore. Looks great with her eyes, too. Definite WERQ moment.

  • HomeOfficeGirl

Just because she doesn’t look like shit doesn’t make it a werq for me.  Sorry.  And her tats are nasty.

    • greyhoundgirl

Why are her tats nasty?  This is a real question–I am sincerely curious!

  • Gotta admit – she looks good. I really  love that dress. Very cool and interesting.

  • It’s a smidge too tight, but otherwise I really like it. I wish the sleeves were a little more poofy on her, like they are on the model, though.

  • lehen

it looks like an invasive plant species is taking over her hips and torso.  definitely not a werq.

    • Derek_anny

Somebody tried to gift wrap an office building for Christmas.

  • In_Stitches

Such a thoughtful dress.  Leaves overtaking a brick pattern in a post apocalyptic way with a slimming illusion built in-there’s a lot of ideas going on.

I wish she’d change her hair, not because I think it’s unflattering, but because I’m a bit bored.  Maybe green next?  I’ve always thought that a dark sap green would look oddly natural as a hair color.

  • Janet B

Oddly interesting print, but she looks fantastic.

  • xmixiex

  • Jackie4g

Kelly looks adorable in this dress. I like everything I see. One shoulder applique seems to have been pressed down, and I think that’s a good idea. The designer has been around long enough, maybe since the 70s?

  • BrooklynBomber

It’s an interesting dress, that’s for sure, but I don’t like it on her.  The print suggests nature reclaiming cities/the non-organic. But her hair, tattoos, fingernails, and sparkly shoes distract from and fight with that.  I think it works much better on the model: no jewelry, simple shoes, not even really a hairstyle.

    • dress_up_doll

I couldn’t have said it better. There’s just a LOT going on.

  • procrastinatrice

I just can’t with the hair…and the lipstick. The dress is fine…interesting but not really a piece of beauty.

  • SewingSiren

Green dresses , sleeve interest, longer length, and fitted. Absolutely love them all.

  • Jillaine13

I feel like one of the townspeople as the parade goes by with the Emperor in his new clothes.  You’re telling me one thing and I’m seeing something drastically different.

The dress has an interesting print but it looks like there’s a bow framing her lady parts.  Her makeup looks good but her lips need some color with that strong jaw line.  Her hair color has worn out it’s welcome; it’s a tired schitck, even Katie Perry knew when to rinse out the blue.  And the tattoos always bring the whole look down a notch or two.

  • Judy_J

That is a great dress, and fits her like a glove.  It had to have been tailored just for her.

  • warnerave

i just wish she doesn’t have those damn tattoos!!

    • SoAustentatious

She has beautiful alabaster skin and to have those tats interrupt the look of that skin is just sad.
This should be a cautionary tale.  You never know if you’ll be wearing fabulous clothes in front of dozens of photogs…

  • sweet_potato

It looks like a cray-cray art project.

  • stubbornthoughts

Looks like something Poison Ivy would wear to a job interview.

Her hair finally suits her in this color scheme, but I’m not feeling the dress. Fits beautifully, but if I saw her in real life, I’m pretty sure my face would look like this: O_o

  • Personal best for her, she should be feelin’ pretty gorgeous right about now.

  • RocknRollmom

I saw this yesterday and immediately wondered what you guys would think as  I thought it was a definite WERQ for her.  Even the lavander hair works here.  Definitely a dress I admire from a far as well as the person who can pull it off.  I am impressed at how she has pulled this off and made the look completely hers.  I think that she looks better in the dress than the model.

  • Imasewsure

And the correct use of peep-toe shoes!!

  • man her waist is TINY!

    • H3ff

Girl is tiny. I couldn’t believe how CU-UUTE she was on RPDR the other week.

  • erinbinek

Personal best.  Way to go, Kelly!

  • Inspector_Gidget

The dress is pretty kickass!  But that hair, both the color and styling, are starting to read “old lady dye job.”  She looks like she’s trying  to cover her gray hair.  She’s not 55 yet, is she?

  • Joyce VG

Yay she gets a WERQ from T Lo!  I think she looks fantastic! Team Kelly!

  • Jacqueline Wessel

Wow, I don’t know what to say. I think this is one of the ugliest dresses (more like a costume) that I have ever seen. (Well, the one Katie Holmes is wearing is worse.)

  • bertkeeter

SHE looks great…Hair, makeup perfect! Just move away from that backdrop…I’m gettig a headache!

  • Mike Owens

    Wonderful dress.

  • another_laura

It is like they designed it for her.  Good job, Missy.

  • MissAmynae

I’m not-so-gradually falling in lurve with Miss Kelly.  She’s come so far from the Minnie Mouse on crack looks, and I still unabashedly love the lavender hair. (Only on her, though.)

  • Le_Sigh

Still hate the hair.  Love everything from the hairline down though.

  • Sarrinsor

The first picture looks like her head is on backwards.

  • MilaXX

She looks good. If it wasn’t for those peep toes, I’d give this a werq

  • What happened to her breasts?

    • greyhoundgirl

      A LOT of shapewear!

  • Tamara Hogan

  • Twinzilla

Kelly is available in case anyone has planned a Norma Shearer biopic.

I don’t mind the lavendar hair whn it is in the finger waves, but I really hate it in this harsher look.

  • Trisha26

The dress looks like a present someone partially opened to find a building underneath. Odd. Does anyone else get Katy Perry from her?

  • PrunellaV

It helps that she really knows how to pose.

  • judybrowni

Annnnnd pulling it off better than the model, for some reason.

I feel the need for lipstick, but can’t imagine the shade that would work with all that.

  • formerlyAnon

I don’t actually like that dress one bit, but she clearly feels like a million bucks in it.

  • Qitkat

It does look good with her hair, but it makes me afraid to go into the jungle.

  • She looks fantastic, but she looks like a bobblehead!

  • nannypoo

I love the dress on her, but no one with purple hair will ever get a WERQ from me.

  • Cool dress, wearing it well.  Still hate the hair color.

  • barbarienne

Yep, you have to be Kelly Osbourne to pull off this look. Fortunately, she IS Kelly Osbourne! She’s rocking the shit out of that thing. Looks better on her than the model.

  • I don’t like the dress.  Not even a little bit.

  • Judih1

Love the dress, but not on her. She’s not tall enough for a dress with such visual interest. Also she defaults to boring peep toe pumps all to frequently. Boots would have been better with this – and it would cover up her tattoo’s on her foot which compete with everything else she has going on

  • i adore this totally 1,000%.  you GO missy osbourne, with your slicked down deep purple and lavendar hair.  WERQ that photo realist chicness!!

  • guest2visits

This is a great looking dress on Kelly; but I think a brunette or a a blonde look would have brought an extra richness that
an artificial color can’t.  There’s youthfulness in crazy hair dyes – and then there’s a loss of youthfulness in polyester shades as
a woman gets older.  My Little Pony mane and tail pigments just don’t carry the same quality and warmth as the wide range of
more human hues do.   Add the phony hair color to the multiple tattoos and she starts to look like a giant postage stamp.
It doesn’t sound like it – but i actually like this girl’s personality and I think she’s very pretty (hate Joan’s show though).

  • Contralto

Note:  Tattoo on right forearm coordinates with dress.

  • traceyishere

She looks great and she is so tiny, that a print is hard for her to wear. I would like to have seen a tiny bit more color on her lip.

  • lesmaha

I can’t anymore with that purple hair. can’t see anything else. can’t.

  • Her make-up is also very good.

  • yawn. the model wore it better.

  • quiltrx

This dress is pretty killer!  The whole geometric vs. organic thing can be hard to make work…but this particular combination (I think it’s because the leaves are so dark, and the ‘architecture’ is monochromatic) really is pretty excellent.  So kudos to the designer, first.

And kudos to Kelly for knowing this was SO in her wheelhouse, and WERQ’ing it.  I’m even getting used to the Mrs. Slocum hair. 🙂

  • glennethph

The hair fucks it up for me.  And I have problems with the shoulders.  But a personal best I think for her.

  • Good set of points, TLo, but she still makes me want to claw my eyes out.

  • DeTrop

Love, love this dress. She looks great.  I do, however, prefer the length on the model.  Just a bit of knee looks better imho.

  • Allison Woods

Glad they sewed up that stupid pocket in front. I think this is a WERK.

  • minnye

    Love it, tip to toe.

  • Love it! Looks better on her than on the model!

  • enchanted216

Really?  It’s too tight, and one of her flaps is down. 🙁
