WERQ: Florence Welch in Marc Jacobs

Posted on November 16, 2012

Florence Welch attends an after party celebrating the launch of ‘Kate: The Kate Moss Book’ in London in a Marc Jacobs dress.

Marc Jacobs Spring 2013 Collection/Model: Julia Nobis

Look at you WERQ that body, girl! You finally ditched the paisley prairie dresses and hippy-dippy shit and got yourself something slinky and chic! And what happened? You instantly felt powerful and sexy, didn’t you, girl? Just look at you, slinking around like you own the joint!

Granted, you could’ve used a touch more makeup, but still. This is such a massive leap forward that we’re crying tears of joy.

Not really.

But we ARE happy to see you wearing something that flatters and suits you so well. Welcome to the 21st Century, girl. We have plenty of clothes for you to try on here. SNAPS of RELIEF.

Grading off the curve, it’d still be a werq.  That second picture made me break out a giant smile.  She’s fabulous and she knows it.

I screamed “Yeah baby!” on that one. Now she just needs to look like she’s not dying from the plague and it will be A+.

    • Annabelle Archer

I feel like a proud momma. Get it Flo!

    • TheLaurenJean

That’s fantastic. Love a girl who can have fun!

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_U5LTVYHX32MGMMXR33G7TOXVR4 Magdalena Monzerrat Ontiveros

Yeah a little makeup would help the look, in my opninion, she looks a little flat

    • Saucysusan

I don’t even like this dress all that much…definitely not her colors…But OMG what it does for her body! And it’s modern! Sleek! Cool! It’s really amazing what the right clothes can do for the way you carry yourself. Bravo! I hope she doesn’t revert but that’s not very likely. Stupid comfort zones.

    • LaylaSV

What a fantastic god damn dress. For a minute I thought the thumbnail was Chloe Sevigny and was super excited for her total fashion turn around. Still. Awesome. And it’s nice to see Ms.Florence in something other than drapey, mysterious florals.

    • Sobaika

This would have been in-fucking-credible, if there was some makeup involved. Just some brightening concealer, a stark face suits this dress overall.

      Personal best.

      • MaryAtRealityTea

I know… it’s like walking dead face. Girl… undereye concealer need be your friend.

love the dress and hair! LOVE her! agree with the makeup…much needed.

She’s finally looking closer to her age. Yeah.

    • Introspective

Somebody finally got homegirl together! And that stylist deserves snaps of respect alongside our snaps of relief…

      Werq it out Flo!!

I wants that dress, but NOT in beige.

      • Tatiana Luján

I wish the beige strips were orange or green.

    • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

      Does she smile?

    • TieDye64

The shot of her vamping it up makes me smile. You go, Flo!

    • SewingSiren

I’m on board with the whole shebang , even the make-up.

    • Janet B

    • Puck Thornton

She looks a bit tired, but that dress looks fab on her!

      • StellaZafella

I think it’s the lighting…The expanse of green-lit dance floor the celebs are being featured on is not the place to be photographed and expect to look flush.

    • http://phantomminuet.blogspot.com/ MinAgain

It looks great from the front, but I think her ass may be a little flat for that dress.

    • StellaZafella

      Flo found her inner diva!

    • Kenisha Hill Phillips

      Go you!

    • enchanted216

Hair and makeup would make it a WERQ, but I adore her anyway.  Dress is fab!

    • MilaXX

First she has looked her age in a very long time. Sure she could stand a touch more lipstick, but this is a vast improvement.

    • NC_Meg

      A+++++. Yay, Flo!

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_OD35QQZNBPZJXWTCBY7N4EE7VY Sarah

I love giant smile on the girl behind her. It’s like she’s overcompensating for the straight-faced Welch.

      LOVE her channeling DIVALICIOUSNESS.

    • Judy_S

I have loved her in just about everything, including some very strange outfits, but you were right, T-Lo, to push for better. She looks amazing here.

    • LeifBallard

I actually like it better on her than the model and such a step up from her norm! Props girl!

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=790818401 Laurie Landry

This is the best I’ve ever seen her!

    • kimmeister

Did she cut her hair, or is it just back?  Whichever it is, it’s a marked improvement.

    • Sara__B

      Wow! Well done, woman!

    • unbornfawn

      The fit is perfection.

    • nannypoo

The dress and hair are good but she’s got zits for god’s sake. Has she never heard of makeup? I’m exhausted just from looking at her.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Christopher-Lally/1813707728 Christopher Lally

Is smiling a foreign concept to Flo?

    • quiltrx

I’m so proud…Flo got a WERQ!  You go girl!  And figure out where you left your lipstick, and put just a little on, darling.  But back to the WERQ, the dress is KILLA and you are working that thang!  And the shoes…so perfectly you. :)

    • Vanja

That’s more like it! Perfect fit and a great print.

    • J MN

Yes!  Love Flo and even some of her odd choices in the past but this is ha-mazing.  Love her bangs swept to the side, it opens up her face and I like the minimal makeup (allowing for the green glow floor).  Lips could have used some umph but I like her eyes.

    • Yaara

No WERQ is seen here whatsoever.
The pattern of the dress is interesting, the back is adorable, but the nude color is so very unflattering. The pointy shoes seems out of place, the clutch is quite ugly. It seems like she has no makeup, where a pop of color on the lips or eyes would have helped this look a lot. This is a clear OUT for me.

I’m not so sure about the shoes, but finally she has found a good look for her.  Just put on a smile next time girl.

    • TRSTL

FINALLY!  A Flo Welch look I can get behind.  She looks fantastic in that dress.  Of course, you’re correct, a skoosh more dramatic makeup would have been better and I HATE that clutch but in all, fab!

    • allaboutthewalterbenjamins

She doesn’t need more makeup but she always look tired. Girl, wake up – your dress wants to party!

    • FloridaLlamaLover

My goodness — beautiful outfit, but this lady needs some color in her face.  She looks ill! (I know “of” Florence Welch, but couldn’t pick her out in a line up.)

    • http://vhanna26.typepad.com Vera

Great dress, but she looks tired.

    • mmc2315

I did not even recognize her!  It’s a great look on her.  Nice!

Now, get back in the make-up chair, girl, we’re not finished.

    • PeaceBang

WOWza! But honest-to-God, the cadaver make-up is so horrid that I can’t even.

    • whitrome

I must be grumpy today. I think she looks positively dreadful.

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

I think Flo looks great, and she’s clearly having an awesome time, but why on EARTH does her face look so washed out? Her makeup here is TERRIBLE.

      Seriously, though, LOVE the dress.

How come she looks like she is my age`?

    • formerlyAnon

      This is STUNNING.

I wish she was caught smiling in these red carpet photos more often. I saw her perform a month or so ago and felt like I’d turned into my mother, I just kept thinking “you’re so pretty when you smile!” (And I have to confess, I finally “got it” about her after thinking “she sings well” while everyone around me raved. On film or just audio I’ve never been able to figure out why she inspires such extreme devotion. On stage, it’s obvious.)

Dear god, I am almost sure that my grandmother bought the same getup (albeit a little more A-line) at the Nordstrom Best in Northgate Mall in 1973. She was relatively fashion-forward, but still….

    • RzYoung

Work it, work it baby, own it.

    • http://promiscuouslola.com/ Cate

Hate the hair, love the dress. And yes, she could have used some more makeup.

    • suzq

Love it.  So refresing and different for her.

    • Jennifer Coleman

      Well Done.

    • http://twitter.com/mirrored_wings Mirrored_Wings

The fit, amazing. the color blocking, very unexpected and cool. the color. no.

    • oohsparkley!

      She looks fabulous. Werq it!

      And the shoes!  THE SHOES!
