  • Of course.

    • charlotte

       Of Saab.

    • PeggyOC

You beat me to it.  And again with the overly heavy eye-liner.  The girl always looks like her eyes are little, squinty black dots on her face.

    • slightlybitterkitten

That was my first reaction, but now, I’m thinking:  Also dirty ace bandages and bra material.  My mind is conflicted!

      • Taylor Swift: The Medical Bondage Collection!

  • bride barbie! now with peek-a-boo lace!

  • Jessi03

Wait.  That’s from the “Taylor Swift Collection”?  Ok…
ETA: Oh thank goodness, just a typo. Elie Saab I can get behind. I don’t want Taylor designing the same dress over and over again and selling it.

  • It’s gotten to the point where I don’t even process that a dress is pretty when it is so colorless. And she… she just makes it more contrived, predictable, and drab.

  • lrober03

Love the gown design, hate the color.
And why did Taylor chose this one time to go with a neutral lip?  I want some more visual interest

    • kschwarting

I agree with you on the visual interest, but my immediate reaction to these photos was “Finally!  She’s discovered another shade of lipstick!”

  • Emily Giovanni

Any other color. (for a second I was like, “wait, she’s getting married now?”)

  • BrooklynBomber

For me, Elie Saab is a few notches below Marchesa on the Despise-o-Meter, but, even though I kind of hate the side panels, I love the front, and she looks gorgeous.

  • *yawns loudly*  I’m sorry, was there a dress here to critique?

    • j_anson

    • random_poster

      Yup. Bland, bland, bland.

  • SewingSiren

She has a very narrow range. But this does look good on her.

    • KC

I agree. She looks pretty great. I mean, everyone complains about her but she dresses WAY better than most of the idiot starlets that litter Hollywood. She almost always looks classy. I dunno, I love her style. I think its cute and it works for her.

    • sweetestsith

Completely agree. I would have loved to seem some pretty emeralds with this though, I think it would have set it off nicely without taking her out of her comfort zone.

  • I kind of adore this dress.  Of course I wish it were another color, but the draping of the skirt is gorgeous and I love the structure of the bodice.  I even like, gulp, the side panels.

    •  Me too. If only it had been in a more striking color, this would have been a WERQ, I think.

  • Zippypie

    Color please!

  • marilyn

    Boring, with side lace panels.

  • Not bad, but really needs some color. Royal blue would be nice.

  • I feel like this is a frickin’ lingerie show out of a 1950s movie, and the circle she is on should be rotating while some snooty shopwoman in an appalling hat in puke green says, “Our latest longline bra and girdle set, comes with detachable skirt, for those evenings when you want to serve your Mister cocktails en deshabille, ladies!”

In other news, I hate her overbite possum face hair-straightened teeny writing young man stealing self. So there.

    •  OMG did you just get a huge laugh out of me.

    • JasmineAM

YES TO EVERYTHING. She is terrible.

    • j_anson

      Possum-faced. Ouch! 🙂

    • That comment is NSFW.  I can just see the Kay Thompson-esque shopwoman now!  And that string of descriptive adjectives is spot on.

      • I was trying to think of the character actress I wanted, and couldn’t come up with Kay Thompson’s name. So thanks!

        •  Eve Arden would work well in that role, too.  She was always so deliciously caustic.

    • decormaven

“Our new one-piece lace foundation garment. Zips up the back and no bone.” – The Women, 1939

  • decormaven

Great earrings, but she needs some plastic cheaters behind them so they will sit properly on the lobe, instead of drooping. I will say she’s standing well and showing the details of the dress. So many stars just appear and don’t try to alter their posture to show the gown to best advantage.

    • kimmeister

      Plastic cheaters?  What are those?

      • BrooklynBomber

Little discs you put between your ear and the piece that holds the post in place.

    • ankali

Wait, is that what those round plastic shield earring backs are for? I always thought they were just cheaper to produce than the small metal ones. The things I learn on this site!

      • decormaven

Ding ding ding ding ding! We have a winner. Cheaters are a must for those big earrings if the ear is pierced. Back in the day with clip-ons, the clip held the earring securely against the lobe.

        • subwaycars

I just bought a pair of really great earrings and was lamenting over the fact that they were a bit too heavy, but you pretty much just made my day here, thank you!

  • so freaking bridal tho

  • It’s bland Barbie! For all your beige dreams.

  • CheriCPat

Dammit.  The dress is beautiful, and I hate saying nice things about her.  I am happy to report those bangs ruin an otherwise pretty hairstyle.

I echo the demand for color, however, I have to admit when I imagine this dress in any actual color, it becomes tacky. I think the nude shade is necessary for the lace not to look porn-star-ish.

  • Judy_J

    So very Taylor Swift.

  • Dot

The dress looks gorgeous coming down the runway. Is TayTay wearing blue eyeshadow?

    • GSMSF

I think it looks a lot better on the model because she actually has hips.  Not a dress for a wraith of a girl starving herself on lettuce.

  • snooze…..boring dress. Looks a little too much like a Carol Brady negligee. She just needs a little peignoir to wear over it.

  • ojosazules

The straps and side panels make it look very much like an apron. It is phenomenally boring.

  • Isana Leshchinskaya

    on her, it’s a zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • Sara__B

She’s pretty. She’s predictable. She’s young. I suspect she’s going to be around for a long time, and surely her blandly sweet style will evolve as she matures.

  • Imasewsure

MIght be pretty on somebody edgier. Hate the lace side panels… and as stated, soooooooo boring on Tay Tay

  • AlexisPayne

Typical for her, but still a very pretty dress and she has the body for it. Does anyone else think her hair has been looking a little ashy? And the bangs (booms as TLo would say) are getting a little heavy?

  • StellaZafella

Taylor Squiffed wears her nighty straight from her First Class cabin on Quantas to an event in Sydney.

Her publicist was heard to exclaim as she exited the car, “Oh crap, she forgot to put on the Westwood! Oh well, who’ll notice?”

  • BrooklynBomber

People hate her so much. I wonder why. I don’t have an opinion about her music (I can identify all of two songs, and I guess as teen pop goes, they’re fine), but I read a couple interviews in the NY Times, and in both she seemed mature and unpretentious. Then I ended up watching her on Katie Couric the other day, and it was cutesy, sweetsie Katie who made my teeth hurt. I know TS looks like a Disney princess, but she doesn’t seem to act that way (at least not from what I’ve seen which, admittedly, isn’t that much). What gives?

    • StellaZafella

You know what? You’re right, Brooklyn – and I’m guilty. I won’t go into what makes me cringe about her but you made me think and I realize I felt the same way about the head cheerleader in High School…it’s just a weird form of envy. (And I’m a queer male!)

So I resolve to stop with the bitchy…at least in the case of Taylor Swift.

    • Tamara Hogan

I can’t go so far as to say I hate her; I’m just tired of looking at her. Everywhere you look, there’s Taylor Swift. For me, it has nothing to do with her personality or her talent, and everything to do with media over-exposure.

    • Anathema_Device

I hear ya. People repeat gossip about her like they know her. My daughter loves her, and I have to say Swift is brilliant in the way she caters to her fans. Her whole shtick can be overly saccharin, which is what bugs many people, but I tire just as much of the entertainers who milk outrageous attire for press.

      • formerlyAnon

Among my kids’ friends, even the *guys* like her.  As in, “buy her music” like her, not just like the way she looks.

    • JasmineAM

Well, in my opinion, I hate her slut-shaming. And that she seems clingy and creepy, seeing as she likes dating high schoolers. I’m 21, and I’d never date a 17-18 year old. Her whole “I was a nerd!!!” shtick is annoying, because I’ve heard from people that went to school with her that she was fairly popular. Her live singing is terrible, and all of her songs sound the same, and are about the same things. She is anti-feminism which is just WTF.

Yes, I REALLY can’t stand her.

      • BrooklynBomber

See, I don’t know any of this. I’m so far out of her demographic that this is all news to me.

  • afabulous50

Really?  You bitter kittens would find fault not matter what she wore – so really, why bother…
    I think she looks great.

  • Is it wrong that I really don’t like the side lace/random waist cutouts I seem to be seeing in every dress lately? That and the “illusion I’m naked under this lace dress” look. I think it adds too much overt sexuality to already tight dresses and at worst looks trashy. That said, this is probably the nicest I’ve seen a lace panel look, if you take away the side-ass.

  • warnerave

    she’s so bland…

  • Honk-shuuuuuu.

  • how is Tswift still interesting to people???

    • Anathema_Device

Her latest album sold more than a million in the first week. That hasn’t been done in a decade. Also, she’s the only female artist to have two million-selling weeks since those stats starting being tracked. Her music isn’t my cuppa (although my daughter’s loves her), but she is an industry gold mine.

  • Alessia M

    Taylor Swift has boobs?

    • alyce1213

Yes, she is naturally blessed with that nearly impossible, so-called “perfect” body — tall, thin, with a bosom.
Models aspire to this body type and achieve it through starvation and breast enhancement.

      • Laylalola

Oh the joke’s on you. Those are not her boobs. From someone who stood in front of her speaking directly to her while she was wearing a T-shirt in her home town months before she went nuclear with that little Kanye interruption.

        • Kristin McNamara

She was 19 years old then… her boobs may very well not have been done growing at the time. Three years is a long time. I know my boobs definitely still grew between age 19 and age 22…

          • Laylalola

You’re right, there is that slim possibility — but it’s very, very slim. 😉 She’s lovely. She’s very very tall and lean — she looks so in photos, but of course in person it’s much more marked. It is not a figure that, at that time, allowed for even the tiniest bit of fullness in her boobs (and frankly, I think she’s actually gotten leaner if anything). I mean there are those naturally blessed with the nearly impossible magical body as the original poster said, but … Taylor Swift has a very classic human build.

        • alyce1213

Really?!?! I’m not so sure. I think maybe it’s her + some serious push-up bra enhancement for this particular dress. I don’t think she has a big bosom, but more than your tall typical skinny girl (eg, Kyra Knightley).  I’ll have to look harder from now on in clothing —

          • To me this just looks like good bra/dress, at least on one side. They are not equally boosted. Curse you perceptive people for making me look this hard at pictures of Taylor Swift.

  • Looks good on her, but I wish it was in a different (or any) color.

  • mmc2315

Although I prefer her in some color, the dress and the look are very Tay.

  • formerlyAnon

For her, this is pretty good.

  • bertkeeter

    She’s got IT!

  • i like her w/the not-so-red lipstick…

  • MK03

  • jmorino08

Didn’t she used to be a model? Shouldn’t she know better than to stand with her hands on her hips like that?

  • Is it inappropriate to ask if she got thinner? Is she touring? I know they often lose weight during tours. I agree with others that this would have been nice in a color.

  • RocknRollmom

I like the dress—crazy Halle Berry would look stunning in it.  Taylor, not so much. And  commenter Tanya Wade who came up with “possum face” ends my undying gratitude for finally coming up with the name for what I have struggled with for so long in relation to this young woman.  It is a perfect description.  Thank you, Ms. Wade!

  • B_C_J

This is one of those dresses that shows its beauty when it is in movement.  The model makes it look dazzling because she is striding in it.  Ms. Swift is simply posing and as such the dress just hangs and deprives the viewer of its amazing fluidity.  I find her make up less caked on so that’s very refreshing to see.

  • Anathema_Device

Pretty dress but too drab on her. This would fantastic on a red head or brunette.

  • kaycem

you are what you wear: bland and milquetoast, but pretty enough.

  • IMNAngryLiberal

I think she looks pretty here — yes, it would be nice if she wore color once in a while and yes, it would be swell if she would occasionally take changes with her clothes, but let’s face it … she isn’t edgy and she ain’t never going to be.  She shows up on the red carpet in generally pretty dresses with her lady parts covered up and her hair and make-up done — almost as though she understands that is part of her job.  Would that more celebs took a lesson.

  • Meh.  Where does she find all the white, blush, nude, and sparkle dresses?

    • LesYeuxHiboux

I read in the liner notes of her first album that she has a woman on staff who does nothing but shop for sparkly, girly dresses for Taylor to wear. At least she thanked her, because the woman does her job to the letter!

  • procrastinatrice

Love the dress. Not so much the girl. In fact, if I ever have to cut a bitch for a dress, why not her?

  • neofashionista

it is seriously disturbing to me that she is almost as bony and wispy as the model that is NOT OK!
    someone needs to intervene here
a kennedy cant be anorexic, at least not obviously so….

  • LesYeuxHiboux

It’s a good color for her, but after that fab ladypants editorial I just don’t want to see her in any more lacy, beige-y, princessy dresses. Bland! I am also not loving her bangs. They look like they are poking her in the eye, and add to the infantilizing nature of her image. They belong on an eight-year-old with pigtails.

  • MinasAunt

She looks like one of those scary dolls-with-crochet-skirts that my great-aunts used to cover the extra rolls of toilet paper.

  • Bandages on the torso.

  • a_liking

I think the dress is beautiful, Taylor is beautiful, and y’all are just big contrarians.

  • oohsparkley!

She looks beautiful and the dress is gorgeous.  It would be better in a color. The bangs/booms are a bit too long.

  • Candigirl1968

Do not love the cutouts, and it seems to sit a bit low.  Given the shot of the model, it probably is more beautiful in motion than standing still.
If I see Taylor in one more white, ivory or beige dress, though, I may have to shoot myself.

  • Mirella Bailey

I didn’t hate the dress, but the ARIAs are a bit like the VMAs… you’re supposed to dress like a tacky nutcase. She looked really out of step with all the other attendees. I know we won’t get her to embrace wild colour and prints, but at least a sparkly mini dress would have looked more appropriate for the night

  • Laylalola

I don’t get it. Elie Saab’s dresses basically are these amazing fantasy confections, and if anyone is into romantic fantasy it’s Taylor Swift. Yet this is the second time she’s taken a Saab creation and made it look like … just a nice dress.

  • amy

Does Taylor have fake boobs?  She looks a little melony, especially her left boob with that sharp curve on top.

  • teensmom99

I’m a rare kitten who actually usually likes Tay-tay’s looks but this one is a loser.  I think it’s not “of course” and the problematic parts are where it veers from her standard.  Just too pale, too much and not great.

  • Patricia Gillett

Rolled my eyes just from the headline. All the free dresses in the world and Taylor (or her stylist) chose the one the color of dishwater.

With the dress and the hairstyle, she looks like Florence Nightingale…if she forgot to put her dress on under her nurse’s smock.

  • AuntieAnonny

You don’t get to be the virginal angel AND have see-through lace going down half of you. Pick a side, girlfriend.

  • joancarol

    F-   her.

  • Trisha26

She looks like a mannequin and that lace inset, besides yelling LINGERIE, is hideous.

  • quiltrx

I usually like Elie Saab, and I like this–I just wish it were A COLOR.  I can even forgive the nudie-bits on the sides, because at least they’re pretty lace instead of illusion or just a big hole.

But I don’t think Taylor has the shoulders to carry this off.  (As a big, broad girl who’s proud of her big, broad shoulders, I admire them when I see them–like on the model–and sniff when I don’t, LOL.)

    • formerlyAnon

Good for you! So often I hear broad shoulders singled out as a point to criticize on a woman.

I know they do limit what clothes fit properly, but I think that “swimmers’ shoulders” are usually a plus, and always are in shoulder-baring/strapless gowns.

  • MilaXX

  • Daenyx

Oh wow, Taylor Swift is wearing ivory.  THAT’s never happened before…

  • guest2visits

I think it looks fantastic; but agree it could have been a more complete look with some added color.

  • kcarb1025

She’s not half as pretty as she thinks she is.

  • Geri Brannon

It is my understanding that someone is customarily paid to ACCESSORIZE for the sartorially speaking ‘dear in headlights’ among the glittering masses. Where are Taylor’s … Hiding the loaners in their carry-ons for the trip home?

  • The makeup is not good at all (minus the lip colour maybe) and I’m not loving the straight hair / bangs on her still..and even if the dress is expected, I like it?

  • .

  • ccm800

I think this B would cut ya.

  • glennethph

They say men want a both a virgin and a whore…I can’t find a dress or a person that typifies that push-and-pull more than Taylor Swift.

  • She looks beautiful and less meh than usual. I love this look.

  • amaranth16

I’m usually not crazy about garments that are so clearly in Swift’s wheelhouse, but I actually think this is really beautiful. I really love the ribbon details on the bodice.  Not crazy about her hair, though.
