T LOunge

You know why we love the T LOunge posts, darlings? They’re so freaking EASY.

Drayton Bar, Berlin

Slap up a couple bar pictures, write a line (if that) about that night’s Project Runway episode, and hand the keys over to the Bitter Kittens for the night. If we could get away with posting one every single day, we’d do it in a heartbeat.

Guest judge Tavi Gevinson, Isaac Mizrahi, Georgina Chapman, Carolyn Murphy and guest judge Charlotte Ronson.

Tavi? Don’t even get us started on THAT one.

Whatevs.

What the hell is CM wearing in the last photo?   Boob ears.  OUT.

      • l_c_ann

CM is raiding Heidi’s wardrobe closet while Heidi’s not looking.

        • CurbGirl

How on earth did CM get this gig? Heidi lite is so mono-dimensional, even when wearing boob ears!

          • http://profile.yahoo.com/6PQUNH7VYANAXMRMEEM763V3EU victor liu

There are many notable characteristics that distinguish Heidi and Carolyn.

One is witty, cheerful, adorable, funny, sexy, and radiant, not simply a model, but a muse.
The other is the host of Project Runway All Stars.

      • Introspective

Schmeidi’s breasts are looking like they farted glitter and went concave afterward. Not good girl. Not good.

      • Wellworn

Her boobs are hard of hearing and they needed some aid.

I thought of them as speakers, more than ears. AWFUL.

We should do shots every time they say that!

We’d pass out by the end of the show, and that would make TLounge slow down.

Cannot stand that pretentious little spoiled brat Tavi.

      • Swiftlytiltingplanet

Oh thank god. I thought I was the only one.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Sarah-Adams/1143985903 Sarah Adams

Thank you! I find her deeply, deeply annoying. She is not precocious – that I could take – but she has all the pretension of a someone who is a child prodigy, but with no discernible talent. I can not understand why the fashion world finds her amazing.

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

      >.< TAVI. Meh. As a fairly privileged girl going to law school, but with no familial connections (as a daughter of immigrants), the people who were born into extensive rich (literally and figuratively) social networks really get on my nerves, and there are a lot of them in law school.
Yeah, I'm jealous. I admit it.

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Could be worse — you could have no privilege and no connections:D

Gabriella – your life story is similar to mine, and I feel you, girl.

      • ChristinaRi

I did this too.   I grew up in a home very poor materially  but rich in love of learning.   I bothered me at first, but after a while I got over it.   I realized I’ll never be like them and they will always have things I don’t, but I’ve got lots that they don’t have either.

        • Swiftlytiltingplanet

For one thing, you’re far more interesting!

They’re no more happy than others.

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

Whatever. Time for strawberries and chocolate cream as I continue working on editing this journal article about graffiti. My life is so debauched.

    • MilaXX

I checked the program guide for tonight’s ep and when i saw social media I was hoping you guys would be the judge. I checked out Tavi’s blog and I hated her on sight. I fear a lot of hipster douchiness from this one. Reading your post is making me even more concerned. I’m gonna try and give her a chance, though.

      It’s cold, I’ll take a coffee with Bailey’s creme.

      • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

She’s kind of the teenage version of that fairy Canadian we saw on All On The Line, but with extra 90s nostalgia (insofar as you can have nostalgia for a decade you were born towards the end of).

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

I’ve disliked her since the gray hair thing, in a teenage girl who had no apparent skills.

      • formerlyAnon

Several young people of my acquaintance found her blog inspirational. One is no longer blogging, two now have much more interesting blogs than hers.

Her blog was much more bearable in its early years when she seemed a more genuine young girl.

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Lucía-Gavello/1253586868 Lucía Gavello

I haven’t read her blog in ages but I used to love her kooky outfits, she does seem pretentious but to be regarded as a fashion icon by the age of twelve would do that to you I suppose. I never got the “fashion icon” label anyway, they seem to throw it around so easily.

          • dress_up_doll

I used to read her blog because it was well-written, cute and quirky. At a certain point I stopped reading and came back a couple of years later. Boy did she change, but I guess that’s what happens in adolescence.

      • Swiftlytiltingplanet

I looked at her blog, off and on, several years ago when it was first being hyped.  It was a kid dressing up. It wasn’t “fashion”.  It was a kid dressing up.  And somehow, it became important.

The only time I’ve like her is when she was on “Wait, Wait! Don’t Tell Me!”  Other than that, she’s insufferable.  But it’s not really her fault.  I hope she overcomes it.

        • MilaXX

Someone mentioned her being “discovered” at a Marc Jacob show. I vaguely remember hearing about that.

         How’s the neuropathy?

        • NDC_IPCentral

Hi, Shannon, thanks for asking.  It’s better than it was last week, but it’s still evident.  I’m getting quite a neuropathic hit for the first two+ weeks after the infusion, and then it regresses, but never disappears.  It’s a lot less noticeable than it was earlier in the week, when it felt as though the toes on both feet, when I’d try to curl them, were trying to grasp an impossibly large towel or something like that.  I think I should qualify for next Tuesday’s Maintenance Taxol #3.

And how are things neurologically with you?

      • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Not to worry, sweetcakes! We will simply drown ourselves in more. Another time when you’re feeling up to it. I’m sending you all kinds of airy fairy SF loving vibes.

    • another_laura

I want something amber today.  How about a nice single-malt whisky?

As for the episode, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz *snort* zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

    • NecessarySustenance

Nonono, please don’t slam Tavi before you have at least checked out her magazine at rookiemag.com and read a couple of her articles (like this one:http://rookiemag.com/2012/01/how-to-not-care-what-other-people-think-of-you/) . She may come across as bitchy at first, but she doesn’t take herself seriously at all. Also, she really genuinely loves the stuff she talks about (e.g 90′s popculture) and the fact that she was born too late to actively participate in it does not invalidate her interest.

    • l_c_ann

Tavi G, auditioning for the Kirsten Dunst part in the remake of “Interview with the Vampire”, wearing her irritation as well she should amongst mere immortals.

    • 3boysful

Cold and rainy here–I’ll forgo my usual champagne for an Irish coffee, please.

    • StellaZafella

They’re undoubtedly gorgeous sculpted birds, but the lamps in this picture are giving me Leg Lamp from Christmas Story vibes.

Tavi who? (don’t bother answering that…I don’t think I want to know)

Barman what have you in the realm of non-alcoholic and warm…how ’bout coffee with cream and cocoa and I’ll call it a mocha.

      • CurbGirl

My first thought was ‘major award’ as well. But now think perhaps flamingos after one to many.

        Enjoy your mocha!

        • tereliz

Swans? With sort of a sinuous art nouveau flair? I though peacocks at first because of the flare at the base resembling a peacock tail, but the necks are too long.

      • NDC_IPCentral

I haven’t the foggiest about this Tavi gal, either, so that makes at least two of us, but I can use Ol’ Foof-ness as my excuse!

        • BuffaloBarbara

Make it three.  Not a clue.

I can wave a virtual Visa card and make those Berlinische bartenders hop, or I can hurl my Plattdeutsch at them and really shut ‘em down in befuddlement.  Virtual – what?  Taittinger, Moet & Chandon, Perrier-Jouët, Dom Pérignon,
Louis Roederer (I’ve done IP work for it!) — when the virtual world’s our non-caloric oyster, what a selection from which to choose! And in RT right now I’m downing a V&T (yes, quinine therapy) like my life depended on it.

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

I will bow to the power of your virtual Visa. We’ve w been working here today with no water at all. A water main break on this block shut it all down for hours. 40 employees whining, cause they can’t have coffee, or go to the bathroom. Add in still trying to get all the Xmas mdse to the floor, and you can see that Uncle Kiltd has his cranky kilt on.

          • NDC_IPCentral

You have a sizable enterprise there, my friend.  Which makes H2O-lessness even more ucky.  Multiply what your gang is experiencing by many magnitudes and you have the folks in the public housing and apartment blocks in Hoboken, the Rockaways, and all the other beleaguered coast spots in NJ and NY.  Tell the whiners to stuff it and put a shoulder to the productivity wheel.  Aunt NDC sez so.

            • formerlyAnon

Oh, Auntie NDC, you’re so *striiict!*

            • NDC_IPCentral

You betcha, formerly.  *buffs nails and fails to look modest*

            • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

And we love you just this way! My attempts to create a sense of proportions out things fell on deaf ears, mostly. Sigh.

              Amen, Sister,Amen.

            • bitchybitchybitchy

It doesn’t take much to remind us just how dependent we are on those things, like easy access to water, that we take so much for granted.
Sending some virtual bubbly your way!

          • formerlyAnon

            NO COFFEE?????????

Oh dear, I hope the customers are not trying this evening. I say anyone needing a bathroom visit gets to go at the nearest good coffee shop and must take orders before they leave.

          • Call me Bee

Oh you come sit next to Mama Bee and tell me all about it.  Always ready with a sympathetic ear… You may drown your sorrows in some wonderful champagne compliments of NDC’s Visa, eh?

            • NDC_IPCentral

Run a tab, Bee, the piper’ll get paid eventually.   But if it’s Piper Heidsieck, it will be a pleasure.

Going domestic tonight, but care for a glass of Schramsburg?  Best US sparkling wine in my opinion…  based on the past couple of weeks at work and the lack of energy on All Stars, I think I will need several glasses.

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

At this point, if it has bubbles, and alcohol content, I’m on board. Lol

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

I HATE Carolyn Murphy’s dress. And I’m not on the Tavi bandwagon, either.

      • janierainie

I like how CM is calling someone’s piece a chinese lantern while she’s sitting there in a chinese lantern.

        • CozyCat

Oh!  That was my reaction, exactly!

      • 3boysful

Doesn’t CM’s dress look like formalwear for the female officers of the bridge on Star Trek?

Seriously, what is up with those shoulder/boob ears?

    • janierainie

I like these TLounge posts too, because it seems like the comment bitterness is at a higher level just before the show.

      • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Of course, jainierainie, we’re all just making sure the claws are good and SHARP.

      • CozyCat

        We haven’t started drinking yet…

    • alyce1213

Carolyn Murphy’s dress is like some biology diagram of erogenous zones, I hate it so much.
I hope the little judges are not as annoying as I anticipate.
I already can’t stand Georgina (on principle) and CM (she seems stupid).
So what am I watching for?  Isaac?  Well, okay.

      Georgina Chapman is flawless.

I have a raging headache and am at work.  Be very bitter, kittens.  I need the entertainment.

Oh, and pass the Schramsberg, please!

    • NDC_IPCentral

Tavi Gevinson is 16 1/2 years old.

      For the luveamike.

Forgive me if I’m being age-ist here, but how articulate is this teenager, a fashion blogger (and I apologize to Tom and Lorenzo for any perceived implication that she’s being lumped in with THEM), for the past 3 years?  Talk about jumping the whole aquarium tank.

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/6PQUNH7VYANAXMRMEEM763V3EU victor liu

Her blog posts are rather well-articulated.
However, she suffers from crippling hipster pretentiousness. That will be her downfall.

Speaking as a 16 year old, I’m fully aware of how terribly we can come off.
Let’s see if Tavi doesn’t make an ass out of herself.

        • NDC_IPCentral

Victor, you’re well spoken/written well beyond your years, and self-aware, to boot.  It’s a pleasure to have you in the cadre of BKs.  When I was this kid’s (and your) age back in the antediluvian age adolescence was pretty much fraught with insecurity, anxiety and a fair amount of innocence.  Would that Ms. Tavi were of similar bent.

Sounds as though this young lady has had her self-worth inflated pretty massively.  Which might mask some insecurity somewhere.  Or, maybe not.

          • bitchybitchybitchy

I suppose the amount of attention Rikki-Tikki-Tavi has received could wreak havoc with an adolescent mind that is already awash in a hormone stew…

        • random_poster

I cringed at the drop-crotch apologist comment. Hipster pretentiousness, indeed.

    • formerlyAnon

Mizrahi has the winning judge ensemble. I admit Chapman is automatically disqualified by my prejudices against her.

In other news, I’ll buy a round.  I’ll need to start with a triple espresso over ice, with cream. Not particularly inspired by tonight’s list of chores.

    • random_poster

I watch the videos TLo posts here just to see the designer go POOF at the end.  Can we POOF the judges we don’t like as well?

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/6PQUNH7VYANAXMRMEEM763V3EU victor liu

Instead of “shmauffing” contestants, how ’bout we say that the judges “POOF’d” them?

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Honey, that’s a great idea. I say we go for it. All Stars contestants are Poofed” not “Auffed”.
          Bravo, bright sir.

      • http://twitter.com/Alloyjane Alloy Jane

I just watched the video and saw the contestant explode and thought of Spın̈al Tap.  Never saw one before, that was pretty funny.

        • bitchybitchybitchy

Ah, Spinal Tap…one of the great mockumentaries!

    • Call me Bee

      Oooh–nice to be in Berlin.
I have never heard of Tavi G until just now.  I get annoyed when hipsters are crabby for no apparent reason.  Have some gratitude, fer cripes sake.
Anyhoo–I feel bad that some fellow BKs are having less than banner days.  I have had a great week–THe Hubs and I sold our business!  We’re certainly not in a position to completely retire, but we can relax a little  and have a bit of a nest egg.
      So–Champagne for everybody–on me!!

      • formerlyAnon

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!  That must be incredible, I hope you two can set aside some funds for some sort of special celebration, whatever that would be for you.

      • NDC_IPCentral

And in this economy!  Well done, Bee and Mr. Bee.  Nice to have a cushion, and protect it like a lioness, girlfriend.

Schmeidi’s dress is kind of freaking me out a little.  Maybe I just have an American Horror Story hangover, but it makes me think of someone being gutted.

I’ve really tried to like Tavi, with some kind of nostalgic solidarity and admiration for teenage girl ambition. . .but yeah.  Huh.

    • l_c_ann

Dear Lord, It’s been decades since I’ve had a Berliner Weisser.  I need to mentally revisit certain favored bars near the Branderberger Tor if tonight’s Ep. gets too boring.  Or when it gets too ……..

      • bitchybitchybitchy

Berliner Weisse-one of my favorite summer drinks, in Berlin or here in the states.  When my husband and I were in Berlin this May, we treated ourselves to wonderfully decadent torten at the Hotel Adlon’s outdoor cafe, mit cappucino—what bliss!

LOL at “the USA Today.”  Why couldn’t Stephen Colbert be the guest judge?

eta: where in the neon hell does Josh get his tank tops?

      • Stubenville

Back in the 1980′s I would have said Que Linda! on East 14th Street.

      • zelavie

“Neon Hell” could be a pretty awesome night club.  Josh would, of course, be dancing in a go-go cage.

    • NDC_IPCentral

Josh, your eyebrows look more drawn-on and unnatural than mine do, and mine are chemo-casualties missing-in-action.  Boy, dial back on your cosmetics.

USA Today are pioneers in journalism? Ooookay.

      • bitchybitchybitchy

Perhaps you could consider them pioneers in the dumbing down of journalism.

      • http://twitter.com/Alloyjane Alloy Jane

Yeah, I heard that and I thought, “man, where have I been that I did not realize this?” and then I realized that I live in an alternate universe where USA Today is what you read when you’re constipated at the dentist’s.

Laura Katheen honey, if having everything means being a snotty bitch, then yes, you have everything.

I would watch the SHIT out of that. It would bring me closer to god.

    • BuffaloBarbara

Oh, my God.  I just heard two designers in a row talking about designing and sewing and the needs of the challenge.  Is this PR:AS or did I tune into a different show?

      • formerlyAnon

        I know, right?

    • Call me Bee

Oh Andre!  I really hope he’s not getting the loser edit…

    • NDC_IPCentral

“the linear lines of the design” — Oh, Josh, do you listen to your puffed-up self?  Step back and read the transcript (an admonition I give to clients about depositions — think about how what you say will be read when brutally, unflinchingly transcribed) – do you have even an iota of understanding about how goofy you sound?

      • bitchybitchybitchy

The linear lines of the design? Oh, now that’s rich, and I suspect that’s one reason ole’ Josh stays-the producers know he’s gold for dropping that kind of fooofalicious comment.

        • NDC_IPCentral

“Foofalicious” is entering my vocabulary forthwith, bitchy3!  Thanks for the word-smithing.

          • bitchybitchybitchy

It just popped into my head, seeming like the perfect word for Josh. Enjoy using it!

      • http://twitter.com/Alloyjane Alloy Jane

I KNOW!!! I actually found myself responding out loud to my sleeping cats to that comment.  I think that’s his idea of what an intelligent sound bite is.  Either that or he learned English from Mojo Jojo.

    • Stubenville

I’ll take a wackado over a bleach blond bitch any day.

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

Laura Kathleen needs to JUST. STOP. TALKING.

      • http://twitter.com/Kamilaahh Kamil

        Now would be good.

I used to think, as recently as, say, today, that NO ONE in the history of PR, however long it may be, will ever out-do Josh when it comes to completely crawling up his own ass – but hey, he’s got NOTHING on little miss feel free to hate me because you are so jealous of my money which I will rub in your faces at all opportunities and at all times.

I realize she’s just going by Laura these days.

And she wonders why no one likes her.

      • MilaXX

She quickly reminded me why I disliked her during her season. I think she’s the only one there NOT trying to make people think favorably about her.

    • alula_auburn

“I’m not trying to make clothes for, like, the farmers of America.”

She’s seriously like a cartoon character.  But not a funny one.

      • IamstillAnonymous

Can you imagine the level of bitchery she’s going to reach by the time she’s middle age?  Eeeow!

        • formerlyAnon

How old is she? If she’s up to the mid-’30s, she might change (that is, mature, belatedly). I’ve seen it happen with folks exposed to the real world and who really engage personally or professionally with a group that doesn’t reinforce the nouveau riche teen behavior.

After the mid-’30s the people I’ve seen change generally have had to endure real, serious, personal reverses and struggle – suffering and illness among those they love, mostly.

          • IamstillAnonymous

Either way — through personal reverse or aging — I project her becoming a bitter, unhappy bitch.  She’s got a good start, don’t  you think?

            • formerlyAnon

Well, she may not be as bad as she looks on t.v. But she sure isn’t going to win friends or influence people based on the impression she’s giving.

      • bitchybitchybitchy

Could we pitch a one-off PR with Laura Kathleen, Ven and Olivier forced to design clothes for a farmers convention?

I feel a little bit like Josh is aping Emilio’s jacket from last week. I mean, I know it’s not the most innovative color scheme, but strong referencing. Wasn’t Josh’s picture more of a salmony orange and slate blue, and he said he was focusing on colors? Hrm. ETA: Oooh I just saw the full body shot. A little Aladdin meets I Dream of Jeannie camp, huh?

If anyone really wants to wallow in the Liz Taylor/Richard Burton saga, I’d suggest reading “Furious Love”, which is a fabulous read about their life together; alternately, Burton’s diaries have just been published, so that’s another way to indulge in Liz and Dick without having to endure this tacky Lifetime movie.

      Laura Kathleen: Uh.
Andrae: Cute, but a little puckery. I like that it’s sporty.

Althea: drop crotch pantsuit. Nuff said.
Josh: Looks like a costume from Avatar: The Last Airbender, and not in a good way.
      Uli: Yawn.
      Ivy: UGH Urban Outfitters shmatta.
      Anthony Ryan: Standard
Emilio: Cute! Like a big daffodil.

Shmeidi: If I talk a lot more, maybe they’ll stop ragging on me for being less likeable than Heidi!

    • Wellworn

I can just imagine the producers saying to Laura Kathleen, “Laura, you look so pretty today!  We can’t wait to hear what you think about everyone.  You are the smartest, most talented, and prettiest on this show!  Now face the camera and tell us your opinion.  Did you know that the person who says makes the most honest comments gets extra secret bonus points to win?  And everything you say is so witty and really does make you much more likeable.  People are very sympathetic to priviledged pretty girls like you.  You might even win fan favorite!  And here’s some candy!”

    • MilaXX

What’s really insulting is of all the fashion bloggers out there, including T & Lo or the Fug gals, they pick a friggin child to act as judges.

      • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

That was precisely my reaction. It’s absurd. There are others who are more qualified, have just as large – or larger – following, have been in the business longer… NO REASON to pick her.

        • http://twitter.com/Alloyjane Alloy Jane

Of COURSE they had a reason to pick her.  They’re pandering to the lowest common denominator.  She wasn’t god-awful as long as you keep in mind that she’s a teenager and the judging is rigged.

      • guest2visits

Agree Tlo or Fug Girls would be infinitely better…  however she (Tavi) handled it pretty well; that is if she was using her own
wording.  I don’t wish to be mean, but I had a hard time seeing her as a ‘fashionista” with the outfit she was in.

        • BuffaloBarbara

Yeah, my impression of her, with nothing to go on but what was on screen tonight, was that she seemed more or less with it, which is more than I can say for some of the other guest judges.  But I’d have gone for TLo or FugGirls, too.

Then again, if I were going to have a social media inspired challenge, it wouldn’t be, “Hey, you guys come up with some inspiration pictures, okay?”

        • tereliz

Totally agreed about the outfit. I mean, you have to know going into it that Treidi and Georgina are going to be hideously overdressed. Why not overdress with them?

edit, but yes, she did handle herself with elan, and her comments were more insightful than the average PR guest judges’ comments.

          • guest2visits

Yes – she did ok, as well as some of the other judges.
Maybe cuz she is so young I shouldn’t critique her outfit… but; I expected it to be more like what I see other
girls her age are wearing.  Right or wrong; it struck me as very young; she seemed about 12.
Or maybe most other girls dress alot older than their age, anyway.  Whatever. No points off for showing up,
            and doing her job well.

    • dschubba

I don’t know why Tavi’s presence surprised me.

    • Call me Bee

And she’s got the vocal fry thing happening, too? (See what I did there? Up-typing.)

    • NDC_IPCentral

Emilio and Laura have the top looks in my opinion.  Emilio really did a different silhouette, and I think he’s showing design.  Laura’s print and overall composition is integrated and really lovely.

Sheesh, Anthony Ryan’s is not that great… I think the top is tackeee.

      • IamstillAnonymous

Emilio gets my vote for the win, and it doesn’t hurt that his model is gorgeous.  Why is Laura’s top beige and her skirt white?

        • LearnedFoot

Emilio’s model (Aminat) was on America’s Next Top Model several years ago. I’m glad that she’s getting runway work. She had a gorgeous figure and luminous skin, but always wound up looking like a frog in her photos.

          • IamstillAnonymous

I just saw her still shot over at TLo’s PR All Stars: Schmocial Schmedia!, and -gasp- you are entirely right.

Can Anthony’s model walk? Everytime she moves it seems like it’s a strain. That turn she did on the runway seems almost painful for her.

I know this sounds snotty, but being bitter and judgmental is what we BKs are all about here:

Does this seem like a reallllly LOOOOONNNNNG hour?  I’ve looked at the clock a lot.  The pacing here is hardly something to seize the viewer’s attention.

      • formerlyAnon

It’s not just you. I have to ‘borrow’ cable time from a friend and now I’m background watching netflix re-runs of Inspector Lewis. (Laurence Fox. Yum.)

      • Polka_Dotty

Yes, but you’re also supposed to be keeping up on Tlo’s twitter feed plus looking up such unfamiliar terms as “Tavi Gevinson” and “Rookie” the hour just flows by.

    • MissMariRose

If they give the win to Laura, I may have to stop watching. She’s already close to unbearable to listen to.

      ETA: Thank goodness.

      • http://twitter.com/Alloyjane Alloy Jane

Actually, I think I’m going to stop watching.  The judges/producers know what challenges are coming and this totally explains all the mystifying AR love when what he makes are boring, usually awkward clothes.  He has a “story” that works perfectly for magazines like USA Today and “sells” the emotionalism that Lifetime panders to their viewers.  It’s a perfect fit.  Now, I wouldn’t be surprised if they start tearing him a new one from this point on.  I mean, Georgina even said the look was redundant.

Emilio’s dress, on the other hand, captured exactly what the once-again nebulous challenge embodied.  Look at his picture, and look at his dress.  It’s inspired without being literal, it takes the spirit of the photo and translates it into something very lovely that actually incited a visceral reaction.  It’s genuine.  AR’s bullshit was common and undeserving of the top three and the only reason it was there was for marketing/ratings purposes.  Bull.Fucking.Shit.

Maybe the stills will show different, but when it comes to picture/outfit, I thought Uli’s was very evocative, despite the blandness of the color.  It was that “early morning sunrise from an airplane” color and beautifully done (from what we saw of it) and it made me smile when it walked out.

Anywho, I have more rant in me but I’d rather wait to see what this looks like in the stills, where we can actually take a good look at what they made.

    • SnackBandit

Why does everyone love Emilio’s so much?  It’s just ugly, wrinkly fabric wrapped around a hula-hoop.

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

OK, I don’t think Anthony Ryan’s was win-worthy, BUT I’m glad that LK didn’t win. She annoys me far too much.

      • http://profiles.google.com/urbangypsyt Tess D

        There is that.

    • http://profiles.google.com/urbangypsyt Tess D

I already hate them for dissing Emilio. Anthony Ryan’s was fine but nothing new. Ugh.

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

PFFFT. Typical. Standard dress wins. Not that Emilio’s was amazingly innovative or anything, but at least it was unexpected.

    • Call me Bee

Anthony Ryan WON??!?!  With that awful dress that the model could hardly walk in it was so friggin’ tight??!?!  Ack.

    • alula_auburn

      Emilio is PISSED.

“Always Moving Forward” is a really terrible headline, though.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_H3XBSNN3JLZWI4R2EPZ2BQYT5U Suzanne S

I saw “Emilio-the “UMad” version” so clearly. He ‘knew’ he had it in the bag.”Always moving forward” -probably has been used by multiple car companies, airlines, insurance companies, financial institutions, tech gadgetry, etc. I would have been happier with “Crossroads” (not just the word, some phrase conveying that-at one point he was referencing how certain decisions end up having profound consequences (paraphrase)

    • dschubba

Gotta be Andrae. We’ve had very little diva behavior out of Joshua.

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

NOOOO. WHAT HAPPENED TO ANDRAE? #sorrylasttimeipromise

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_H3XBSNN3JLZWI4R2EPZ2BQYT5U Suzanne S

It would have been spectacular for Tim to come into the final scene this episode and say that. Maybe not, on second thought, it might seem like they were making light of Andrae being eliminated.  (sometimes I don’t think things through)

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

Awww, poor Andrae. I really think Josh’s was worse, but Andrae’s wasn’t far behind.

    • dress_up_doll

      Our poor little lamb.

The AUF of Andrae was no surprise but I’ll miss him anyway.

    • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.com/ Cassie

Aw, I’m actually sorry Andrae’s going. He was one of the few I was really looking forward to seeing again because he’s such a wild card – capable of making things that were totally shitastic, but also some really interesting and creative stuff. Bye bye, Little Lamb.

      • Polka_Dotty

I so wished that Tim Gunn was there with the group hug. Andrae has to be one of the dearest, most lovable contestants on this show.

    • alula_auburn

According to my closed captions, Schmeidi “coos sympathetically” at Andrae.

Good-bye, our little lamb!  I’m not sure you really wanted to be here anyway.  Run free!  Frolic in the meadows!  Tryst with Tim at Red Lobster!

      • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.com/ Cassie

        That’s hilarious.

      NOOOOOO!!! Not Andrae!

I will NOT be watching after tonight.

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

I hate to say it, but anyone think he won this one because he played the cancer card?

I felt bad the other day while watching Chopped: Teen edition, and one girl talked about how she had to win it for her dead brother. And lo, she did, to my complete lack of surprise.

      • http://profiles.google.com/urbangypsyt Tess D

That was my first thought. Perfect fodder for USA Today and Lifetime. Win win for them.

        • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

I was thinking it as soon as he said it, but then I forgot about it. I feel bad because I my next thought was “Oh right, testicular cancer.”

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

On another note entirely, HOW does that Abby woman have her own show? She’s just NASTY (in terms of attitude). At least Simon Cowell is a little funny or charming when he’s being an asshole.

      • DLJoe

To be fair she’s visually nasty as well.  She literally looks like Cartman from South Park to me.

See, I was trying to NOT go for the personal attacks. ;)

    • Call me Bee

Ugh.   Musta been AR’s cancer that won the challenge for him–it couldn’t have been that dress.  I am so happy to turn it off and watch Burn Notice now.

I had to watch some Big Bang Theory to cleanse my mind.

Well, I sure don’t agree with the win, though I’m sympathetic to Anthony Ryan’s cancer story.  But I thought that dress had a really chip-chip top, especially from the front.  Emilio took inspiration from his photo and built upon the feeling it engendered.  His dress gave me faint echoes from Season 3, and his was the stand-out, stand-apart look on the runway.

      • Ms_Winston

I thought the back went way too low- you could almost see booty-crack.

    • guest2visits

No! … I am so tired of Anthony’s color palette and silhouette.  Emilio’s was much more interesting, and pretty to me.

    • zelavie

Blogger girl kinda looks like a young Michelle Williams (circa Dawson’s Creek).

    • Introspective

Emilio was robbed. Most interesting dress of the bunch. Maybe ARs cancer card was the hail mary cause I dont see anything I havent seen from him before or have seen a zillion times on the runway in the last few years either.

But Andrae HAD to go home tonight. I couldnt take another week of his runway meltdowns and his wtf designs. Time to go boo. Color me unimpressed.

      • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

Based on the challenge, and his actual inventiveness, you’re absolutely right that Emilio should have won.

      • CarolinLA

I didn’t want to hear Andrae talk about his designs for one more minute.  It’s one of the reasons that he’s not as successful with his output.  He can’t articulate what he’s going for and, in his case, I think it means that he doesn’t know himself.

      • Wellworn

But you have to admit he does a fabulous Golom.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_H3XBSNN3JLZWI4R2EPZ2BQYT5U Suzanne S

When he talked about “knit modular clothes” I was reminded of those knit modular separates/dresses from the 80s that both my Mom AND I were wearing at that time (which should NEVER return-great in premise, spectacularly bad in reality-I almost think they were called “Modules”).  I almost turned off the TV thinking that I was going to reminded of my past shameful crime of fashion, but his idea was quite different. I liked how Georgina at least tried to bring him into our galaxy by calmly explaining what happens when you put a ‘stiff zipper on a knit fabric’-a result which was tragically evident in Andrae’s ‘look’.

        • Call me Bee

Units!  They were called Units around here and my two daughters were all about Units in the mid-80s.  They were aged 10 and 7 at the time…But I even had some that I wore–generic tops and skirts with contrasting ruched belts and headbands.  *shudder*  The 80s….

    • SewingSiren

Boy I had that all wrong. I pegged Emilo for the win and Laura Kathleen for the auf’.

    • Laylalola

WOW. Who is this Tavi? She’s 16 years old. So articulate and smart. And she reminds me of some movie star — who is it? Heath Ledger’s lover? Anyway, after TLo’s comments I went in biased against her but there’s something about her presence that is so damn compelling and charismatic. That’s a future powerhouse right there.

    • 76brunette

Aw, poor Andrae. I miss Season 2 Andrae; it seems like his uncertainty and awkwardness were turned up to 11 this season, and I can’t tell whether it was intentional (for more camera time?) or not.  Also, feh on the winning dress, which just seemed so ordinary. I was actually rooting for Casanova, which at least looked well-constructed, flattering, and like it flowed really nicely.

I sometimes feel like a bit of a black sheep among the wonderful BKs, because I just do NOT care for the design aesthetic of either Emilio or Althea, and really disliked their work in their original seasons as well. To each his own, I guess! But I would appreciate if someone could explain to me how Emilio’s design, which so many here really seem to like, would pass the Michael Kors “who is this girl and where is she going?” test. I really thought he would be in the bottom for that absolutely bizarre silhouette!

      • BuffaloBarbara

I’m with you on that.  I was sure it was in the bottom.

    • 3boysful

Much as it pains me to say it, I thought Emilio’s shoulda won.  And it also pains me to say I’m glad they kept Clinique over all that Andrae weirdness.

AND–can I say how much I would love to see a  Judging the Judges post on this particular episode?!

      • formerlyAnon

        Judging the Judges? Mizrahi wins.

      • alyce1213

I was totally freaked out by the 16 year old “drop crotch apologist.”

    • UsedtobeEP

I missed tonight. Only 75 comments? Haven’t read through yet but that does not bode well for a good episode…

      • UsedtobeEP

Oh, never mind, the other four pages just showed up. Must not have been so bad, after all!

    • dress_up_doll

Tavi was a pretty decent judge. Although I could have done without, “I’m a drop-crotch apologist” and “body-con.”

      • zelavie

And maybe “She tried to make a suit when everyone else was making dresses.”

      • CozyCat

At least she never said:  “I would wear that.”

    • Wellworn

What is up with the wackadoodle judge clothing?  The scaly reptilian, the farm wife, the shredding machine remnants, the tacky lace.  Are they really in any position to judge others?

      • Polka_Dotty

I loved Georgina’s lace dress. (According to TLo’s twitter, that’s a Marchesa Fall 2012.) Sometimes I wonder why they need to send any “new” designers out into the world, when Georgina exists.

        • Wellworn

Ok, I will give you that.  The lace was the best of the worst on the judge’s panel.  I guess I’m sick of lace.

      • CarolinLA

The word wackadoo and wackadoodle came into my vocabulary when Suede used that term often in his season.  I love that term and I’m glad to see someone else uses it!

        • Wellworn

I picked it up from Penny calling Sheldon “Dr. Wackadoodle”.  (Big Bang Theory)  Wellworn has forgotten anything that Suede has said.

        • MoHub

I believe the terms originated with Michael Kors, and everyone else just picked them up and started overusing them.

      • Melvis Velour

When Carolyn Murphy said “..I’d look like a chinese lantern in that thing” (about Emilio’s dress) all I could say was “…what the hell do you think you look like now?”

Charlotte Ronson didn’t look very happy to be there and Georgina, please drag Tavi out of Red Hook and have at it!

        • sdtripper

That Chinese lantern thing – exaaaactly, as Casanova would say.  When I saw that in the previews I was confused because I thought she already looked like one.

And that is about the only fun I had watching this show.  Everybody’s look was a great disappointment.  At least when I saw Andrae’s I thought it was something fresh and different.  Even if it had nothing to do with the picture and was executed sloppily.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_OQG2B3GDOIKSFYT6YDXFVOMEM4 A. Lure

Laura’s splattered rags were atrocious, but the verbally challenged host wants to rub glitter with her: they’re both privileged girls, aren’t they?

      Andrae’s on PCP.

      • http://twitter.com/Alloyjane Alloy Jane

But she DID them HERSELF.  Kinda like how Kayne oh-so-masterfully lined up those chevron pants they hated.  Like Isaac says, “just because it takes skill and hard work to do doesn’t make it good.”  Now if only they applied this theory to Blenley’s dress because the top and the hem… yeeesh.  This isn’t Project Dye Job.

    • Ms_Winston

The way the contestants play up either sickness/mother dying/bullying to “connect” to their designs is in such poor taste. I really like Anthony and I really liked his picture, but his story went from people meeting and moving forward to “when I had cancer”.  It just reminded me of all the times that Joshua brought up his mother’s death to an uncomfortable degree during his season and how when that didn’t work he went with some vague bullying story line.  It seems desperate and a strange way to garner support.  But I guess “It really fits in with my clean lines and general aesthetic” would not be as dramatic.

      • MoHub

I always though Anthony Ryan should team up with Top Chef‘s CJ Jacobsen, and they could have a pair of balls between them.

    • Laylalola

I will say I’m sort of sad Casanova’s wasn’t in the top, if only because I liked the pattern best of all and wanted to take a closer look.

    • CarolinLA

Seeing Josh’s garment reminded me of what I thought of most of his designs in his season:  he always had one half of a good design and one half that was shit.  I remember now how schizophrenic he was.  He always seemed to miss the boat on one half – like tonight, he poured all his creativity into the top and then the skirt was just dreadful.

      • Polka_Dotty

I actually liked the way the model was able to move in that dress — it seemed fluid, especially the skirt. And it wasn’t like LK’s which was polishing the floor; it was fun and flirty. Ivy went with sheer over granny panties — again — and yet she was safe?

    • Wellworn

That was a truly dismal top 3.  I think out of the 3, Emilo’s was the best, and that was only because it best referenced the photo.  Without that photo, that dress would be ass on the street.

    • guest2visits

I liked the idea behind the challenge; the follow-up artical in USA Today was a great prize.
The top 3 for me were Emilio for the win: very evocative of his photo-muse, simple but striking and it felt genuine, looked well crafted.
I also liked Uli’s pale gown:it felt like her faded sunset photo, and looked very attractive on her model.
And people will disagree, but I liked Kayne’s hot pink slim dress with the hat, abit more than Anthony’s. Somehow it just seems more
adult than Anthony R’s junior looking, standard color block of black-white-cobalt.
The bottom 3 were very, very junior looking. I couldn’t believe Josh’s poor entry… I don’t even.. the choice of fabric, what?
Where could this oufit possibly be going ?  What exactly is it anyway ?  Even Andre’s strange little reggae tube top combo was slightly
better conceived and constructed. I thought Ivy’s was a sad representation of her butterfly. More tacky see-through sheers, the
      construction looked off, too.
The safe middle would include Laura’s bland top and skirt, and Althea’s great jacket but awful pants with an odd green top.
And Casanova’s pants suit – which I liked, but would have respected awhole lot more if it didn’t have weird cutout in the back.

      • SewingSiren

I also thought Uli’s should have been in the top. I couldn’t believe they put Laura Kathleen over her. Frankly I thought Laura Kathleen’s was going to be in the bottom. The print she created was so sloppy and the gown was too.

        • guest2visits

I just got a GOOD look at the designs in their stills. I can’t believe that it’s so hard to see them on the show that’s
supposed to be about the big RW  unveiling. It looks to me like Casanova edges out Kaynes for a top spot – I hate the
cutout on the backs of both designs; but Casanova has a very well made and put together suit, attractive on the model.
I thought Laura K’s back was more interesting than the drippy front.  Uli always seems to fit her model’s form in such a
perfectly feminine, pleasing way; she really understands the fabric and the fit.

    • Swiftlytiltingplanet

What does “visually nasty” mean?  That she’s fat?

No.  Really.  For those of us who don’t get the “Cartman from South Park” reference.  Please explain.

      • Girl_With_a_Pearl

I can’t speak for the person who posted that comment, but that woman does look nasty and I’m using the term as defined by  someone who is mean, and that has absolutely nothing to do with her weight.  Seriously, how is a show where someone is mean to little children on the air?

        • Swiftlytiltingplanet

           Because people watch it.

          • Girl_With_a_Pearl

Well, yes, of course.  I meant why some parents group hasn’t objected to this show.

    • Swiftlytiltingplanet

“Visually nasty”?  For those of us missing the “Cartman from South Park” reference…does that, perhaps, mean “FAT”?  Because, for all her many faults, Abby is a well-maintained woman, albeit fat.

      Asshatt.

    • bertkeeter

Emilio’s yellow and grey design was stunning! It reminded me of Balenciaga…in the late fifties…..It’s not always about tits and ass!

    • bertkeeter

THe two guest judges need a serious makeover! BANGS…WTF!?!

    • Anne Dibbern

Thank you… I like Rookiemag and wish that there was something like that around when I was a teenager. She started her blog when she was, maybe 12? and of course she’s changed. Just like all the rest of us did when we were teenagers – don’t come and tell me that you did not come across pretentious, bitchy and know-it-all sometimes when you were that age.

I have no connection to the hype surrounding her and it has no impact on my daily life – I don’t know any teenage phenomenon that has – so maybe that’s why I don’t mind her.

    • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

And that teens ask adult men bit that rookie does is brilliant. I think it is so sweet for those men to give such considered answers to teenage angst.

    • http://twitter.com/TrollfaceMcFart Trollface McGee

Ugh Anthony Ryan is this season’s Christopher-Golden Boy, a win no matter what crap he puts out. Seriously? A standard model that has been done thousands of times, and is available in any store paired with some tacky looking cutouts. If it weren’t for the butt-baring ones in the back, it would be a great grandma cocktail dress. Emilio made something artistic and bordering on avant-garde but at least he thought about it. Anthony Ryan was “let’s make a boring dress and play the cancer card.” They have a decent set of designers this season, it’s the cracktastic judging that’s ruining it.

      • MoHub

And I’m almost as done with boob windows as I am with platform soles and booties.

        • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

Power Girl is the only one who can pull all three of those things off.

    • tereliz

I thought her comments on the designers’ looks last night were pretty articulate for a 16 year old [edit, I mean pretty articulate for a guest judge on PRAS ;) ]. I’ve never understood why she was touted as a fashion icon at such a young age, but I love how much fun she has with her personal style and her blog. I was just as fearless in fashion at age 12, but I only had the resources of my mom’s 70′s clothes and the mall. And poor self-esteem and acne, yay! Maybe if I’d had a blog (and Photoshop, lol) then…

    • Lexie

I have to agree that I don’t really understand the hate. Is the fashion industry overselling her a bit? Probably, yeah. But her online magazine is cute (if you’re in her demographic of pre-teen/teenage girls) and she is clearly very passionate about it. What really won me over was her fairly recent interview on Late Night with Fallon, she was very down to earth and pretty adorable.

    • MoHub

Please may we judge the judges?

    • Lilithcat

      Random thoughts:

The last time I took fashion advice from a 16-year-old was when I was 15.

Props to Joshua for wearing a leather pride t-shirt.  Now I know why he acts like such a jerk.  He wants to be spanked!

    • fashionzombie

My feeling, which is of course colored by my cynicism and paranoia, was this:

“Oh, look! Fashion bloggers! So cute! Did you make a blog, honey?”

A young girl sitting with established adult professionals = Project Runway’s idea of fashion bloggers — young in the fashion world. You can take them seriously if you want, but look. Here’s a visual representation.
