Selena Gomez for Glamour Magazine

Posted on November 02, 2012

Selena hoists up the girls and gets her glam on for (appropriately enough) Glamour mag:

Dress, Zac Posen. Earrings, Martin Katz.

Selena Gomez covers the December 2012 issue of Glamour magazine photographed by Ellen von Unwerth and styled by Maggie Mann.

On Bieber fans: “Yeah, and I adore his fans. I would never, ever want to disrespect them. You know, I get it: I was obsessed with Jesse McCartney growing up! He was my world. My high school crush. So I respect it, and if anything, I admire it.”

On growing up: “Yeah, because I was so scared and so shy back then. I mean, I grew up in one of the biggest high schools in the world, and that’s the Disney Channel. Everybody was falling in love with each other or not liking each other, and it was exhausting…and I was the shy one in the corner. And now I’m so opinionated, and I don’t have time for the cattiness. I have good people around me, and I’m glad I’m at the place I’m in. I wish I was there back then.”

On negativity:  “If I had let all of the negative stuff affect me, I don’t think I would be satisfied with the person I am now. That’s what I tell my fans: If you’re miserable with everything going on in school, that is so not going to matter the moment you leave. My mom always told me, “Just turn the other cheek and keep moving forward.” That’s something I’ve always done, and now I look back and I have no regrets.”

Gown, Bottega Veneta.

Dress, Balmain. Earrings, Neil Lane Jewelry.

Dress, Giulietta; bolero, Glamourpuss NYC; diamond earrings, bracelet, Martin Katz.

It’s standard in a lot of ways – and the cutesie-poo posing isn’t helping – but we’ve gotta say, the girl looks pretty damn spectacular in these shots. Love that Balmain on her.

    Va-va-voom Selena!  She looks good.

  • kittenwithaquip

With the requisite cherry lollipop for the pervy oldsters.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Lucía-Gavello/1253586868 Lucía Gavello

Yep. That’s a pretty broad spectrum too considering she’s dating a toddler.

    • Lori

I really, really wish folks would give that a rest. I realize it’s never going away, but I’d love a nice long break from it.

      • Nelliebelle1197

         Did Terry Richards take these?

  • siriuslover

Yes, the Balmain is my favorite, mostly because it’s young and flirty like her. I also love that deep blue number.

I’m still waiting for her to break up with the Biebs though. She can do much better.

  • MoHub

    Way too many babyheads!

  • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

The lollypop? Really? I’m amazed they didn’t stick heart-shaped sunglasses on her. But she looks fantastic! That Bottega Veneta is really something.

Haha, buuuurn! Classily done, girl. I like that many readers wouldn’t actually see the shade you are throwing there. (ETA: of course, I’m sure the kittens do, because we’re a snarky bunch.)

    • Sartorial_She

Ya know, I don’t think that was what she was doing.

      • theblondette

I think she’s sharper than sometimes people give her credit for…

        • http://twitter.com/starrika Ali

I read that as a backhanded burn as well.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Lucía-Gavello/1253586868 Lucía Gavello

My first thought was “who the hell is Jesse McCartney?” and my own brain answered “Exactly”.

    • http://profiles.google.com/ameliaheartsu Amelia Logan

What you’re thinking is going over my head.

      • Kristin McNamara

        Mine too. I don’t get it….?

  • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

She looks great, if fetal, but don’t try to sell me sex bomb while regaling me with tales of high school. Gross.

  • Anathema_Device

She was always my favorite of the Disney kids. My daughter was waaaaay into the Disney Channel a few years back, and Gomez was clearly the best of the crew. Like Taylor Swift, she is managing the transition into adulthood really well, or so it seems.

She is absolutely gorgeous. I really like the saturated colors of this editorial, though I could have done without the lollipop shot.

  • Clueless_Jock

This chica looks like a baby Rita Hayworth.

  • Jecca2244

is she working on anything now? She was on the cover Elle a few months ago. Just confused.

  • bookish

God I hate that lollipop pose and wish it would *go away.*

  • dulcinea86

She looks great here, but I find it odd that the editors chose head-on, “looking straight at the camera” shots for every single look. I’d be willing to bet she looks great in 3/4 or profile too!

  • erinbinek

The second shot makes her look like a blow-up doll.  I think she still looks way too young to be trying to sell the sexy look.

  • http://www.flickr.com/photos/21151157@N00/ rawrgrowlrawr

I know she is a woman and not a little girl, but gaaaah. She looks like a hyper-sexed fourteen year old. The lollipop certainly does not help.

  • Reneesance

I do so love that Balmain. Gimme!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000905542323 Rhonda Shore

She looks great but too much makeup — it’s obscuring her features/making her look kinda generic.

  • JasmineAM

I know it’s weird, but I just can’t look past her 12 year old face. She looks like a middle school student.

    • kimmeister

A middle school student with big kazongas!

    • kcarb1025

Mte. It feels gross to even look at these shots.

  • http://twitter.com/GAlucas Georgia Lucas

That Balmain dress looks eerily like Shannel’s dress from the “Opposites Attract” photoshoot!

  • MilaXX

I like all the clothes and hate every single face in all the shots.

  • http://twitter.com/TheRedZavodnik Ginger

My opinion of her dropped drastically when she said that if she had stayed in Texas, she would’ve had 2 kids already.  Honey, please.  Living in Texas doesn’t do that to you…being a trashy little slut does!

    • http://twitter.com/starrika Ali

That’s not a very nice thing to say.

    • thepoptart

And here I was worried that teen moms were kids who had the same kind of sex as everyone else but just happened to not beat the odds.

Now I know that only the TRASHY, SLUTTY kind of sex gets you pregnant. Thank god!

    • Jess_face

I know, she’s a huge trashy slut – being in a monogamous relationship will do that to you.

    • pop_top

Actually, stats indicate that children of teen parents are likely to become teen parents themselves….perhaps she’s heard those statistics? Also, she’s 20 isn’t she? It’s not impossible that she might have had a child by this age, especially if she lived in an area of TX where that’s the norm.

  • Pants_are_a_must

She’s 20, can you believe it? This photoshoot screams “Lolita”, but she’s essentially college-aged. Still disturbing, to be frank.

  • kschwarting

She looks good, but does anyone else feel like she’s overly made up?  I know it’s a magazine editorial, but she’s so young and doesn’t need a heavy touch with the makeup.

  • Kathy_Marlow

That Balmain is to die for…love that on her.

  • PrunellaV

I just realized she kind of reminds me of Annette Funicello.

  • Warrior89

    egads, lose the lollipop.

  • Qitkat

    Baby Vamp.

Is Zac Posen copying Ven? Cause, ooohhh, that cover dress :(

  • filmcricket

I was in the press room at TIFF for her “grown-up” film debut – it was her and Vanessa Hudgens and a bunch of other young starlets. Her presentation is truly disturbing – tits hiked up to here, with a face as smooth as a Kewpie doll. I realize that’s not her fault, but it was unnerving in the extreme. However, I give her credit for having said that she knows it’s going to take a while before anyone takes her seriously because of the Disney brand (that’s almost verbatim). If her version of breaking away from the Mouse House involves dressing in gorgeous clothes like these and not having a nervous breakdown, I say good for her.

  • http://twitter.com/irmaladuce_l8ly IrmaLaDuce

I think the Balmain is the only one she doesn’t look ridiculous in. I think teen tart is a way better look for her than 40-year old man eater.

  • TSkot

I know she’s 20, but she still looks like she could be in middle school; way too va va voom for her.

  • Trisha26

Agree, the Balmain is very cute, the poses are jailbait.

  • guest2visits

Hmmm.. I agree she looks gorgeous, but it just feels like she’s posing for a different kind of magazine – a men’s  magazine.

  • unbornfawn

I know she’s trying to transition her image from Disney kid to woman, and good for her. It isn’t easy. Unfortunately she’s done up like she’s an established sex kitten. I can’t really find fault with any of the looks. Great hair, make-up and she’s wearing the dresses fairly well, It is such a leap image-wise for her, I can’t buy it. The two words that keep coming to mind as I scroll down are kiddie porn. Perhaps its the lolly-pop and the sex-doll poses.

  • http://cheekypinky.wordpress.com/ Rebecca

She has a very childlike face, and probably will for a long while yet. The lollipop is a silly and overdone trope, but everything else is glamorous–I have serious eyebrow envy going on!

  • quiltrx

    LOVE the Balmain!!!

And with the lollipop?  Geez.  Might as well have put her in heart-shaped sunglasses.

  • NCDFan

The clothes are great but don’t these photographers ever have any original ideas for the poses? It seems every single woman who is photographed is told to pose like a ‘sex kitten’. It’s boring and annoying.

    • nankipoo

Exactly. It’s always a “sex kitten”, never a ‘sex eagle’ or a ‘sex weevil’.

      • NCDFan

Or brave kitten or thoughtful kitten or even smart kitten

  • decormaven

For me, these are a little too vamped up in their approach. Yes, the gowns are gorgeous, and she is a beautiful young woman. But the way the photos are styled- particularly the lollipop shot- are a little too salacious.

  • ballerinawithagun

Yes, the black & white Balmain is fabulous!

  • Scarlet39

    Pure cheese

  • eight_of_nine

For some reason I have a soft spot for Selena… she just seems sweet and sincere to me, and is handling the child-star-to-adulthood transition well.  I think she looks great here!

  • Elias Martinez

She is so washed out/lightened! (not that making people of color look white is something new in the world of editorial)

  • http://www.facebook.com/conysoledad Constanza Álvarez Espinoza

    I love that Balmain dress.
