Michelle Trachtenberg in Los Angeles

Posted on November 07, 2012

We love ourselves some cat-eye frames, but Michelle here is providing a handy illustration of why they’re just not for everyone:

‘Gossip Girl’ star Michelle Trachtenberg makes her way out of Benjamin Salon in Los Angeles.

Girl, Those Aren’t Your Shades. It doesn’t help that she’s got her eyebrows raised in every shot, which, combined with the sunglasses, are giving her a somewhat comical look.

But hey, the booties and bag are cute.

Those are extreme cat-eyes, which would probably only work on Lady Gaga or Nicki Minaj (or someone otherwise known for fashion insanity).

    • SapphoPoet

I kind of like her necklace.

    • mjude

its not easy to rock cat eyes.  not working on her, but i do think she is a sweet girl.

    • http://www.facebook.com/sara.m.hottman Sara Hottman

      Love that bag.

      • gsk241

Me, too!  FYI, that’s a Coach Candace Carryall in brass/brown/carnelian.

    • http://chibirobot.blogspot.com/ Wendy Mackey

She looks so surprised in every picture!

      • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

She’s on her phone, so maybe she got some really shocking news.  Like she was nominated for a Golden Globe or something.

      • ecallaw1977

Are her eyebrows even raised, or is that just the effect of the way the sunglasses dip low at the bridge?

    • Judy_J

Her brows are too arched for those frames.  I do like the booties, though.

    • Iowachick

Girl, those aren’t your jeans either. Am I the only one who does not at all like skinny jeans (or tights? what are these?) on not-so-skinny girls?

      • bookish

I think she just isn’t wearing the right size.

        • Tatiana Luján

I think so too. Not even skinny jeas should fit so tight, they look cheap.

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

It’s not so much size as shape.  You need to have long legs for your size (meaning 5’2″ long legs are different than 5’9″ long legs) and slim hips and thighs.

      • birdgee

The fit isn’t perfect, but I think she has shapely, enviable gams. Dislike the notion that only skinny chicks with long legs should wear skinny jeans.

        • Iowachick

I was waiting for someone to say that.

I’m a size 2 and I don’t wear skinny jeans because I just don’t look that good in them. They make me look less attractive than I do in a regular old-fashioned pair of jeans. But a size 6 girl may look better in skinny jeans than she would in a wide-leg pair – in which case, awesome for her.

Just to say that sometimes one should not adopt the latest fad in a heartbeat. I think that she might have looked so much skinnier and shapely in so many other pairs of pants.

          • birdgee

Agreed! I’m possibly just jealous because she and I have essentially the same build but she looks far fabber in this getup than I would. ;)

      • In_Stitches

Booties make any girls’ legs look stumpy and these jeggings are slightly lighter on the thigh than they are on the calf which isn’t the most flattering wash for a girl with strong thighs like Michelle.  Put her in some darker jeggings with an even wash and pair them with some flats or pumps and she’d look great.

      • LauraWL

Eh. I think if you are trying to look slimmer then skinny jeans don’t work really well unless you are already slender. But if your point is to show off your curvy legs, then yes, skinny jeans are good for that.

      • leftcoastpickle

You took the words right out of my mouth! Fashion victim.

      • http://profiles.google.com/ameliaheartsu Amelia Logan

I’m pretty sure the point of skinny jeans is to make you look curvy, so they’re perfect for thin girls or slightly curvy girls who want more curve. You’re welcome.

    • elirt

      Totally not her shades.

That second photo slays me — her hair “wings” echo the shape of the glasses.  Hehe.  I would lose those rings ASAP, too.  They draw attention to her hands, which unfortunately are not her most attractive feature.

    • MilaXX

The glasses are too cat eye and it’s giving her a weird bug like appearance. I like the booties, but not with that outfit.

      • DeborahJozayt

I was thinking a bug as it’s just hitting my windshield.

    • Insidiously

      Girl, bye.

      “Wonky” is not a look.

    • alyce1213

Those glass are hideous and would be hideous an anyone outside of an editorial layout.

    • Jessi03

They look less like cat-eyes and more like alien eyes.  Dawnie, I love ya, but send those shades to someone else.

    • judybrowni

Usually love me some cat eyes and was thinking of buying knockoffs on ebay, but…

The new overlarge cat eye sunglasses has made a cute girl look like an insane bug girl.

Maybe I should try a pair on, first.

    • Imasewsure

Love the bag, love those boots and the workable outfit in between but yes those shades suck on her…. big time… now hand over the bag and those boots little kitty…. big kitty needs them now!

    • hughman

      ET phone home.

    • http://twitter.com/MajorBedhead MajorBedhead

Dawn! What have you done to your eyebrows? Were you in Buffy’s makeup again?

I think those boots are awful with those jeans but then I find skinny jeans don’t work on 99.999% of the population, even the celebrity population.

      • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

        Thank you for saying that!

    • http://twitter.com/YINZERELLA DinnerIsServed1972

Something about the glasses with her eyebrows scream DIVINE to me.

    • http://profiles.google.com/scaponigro Sarah Caponigro

“HOLY SH*T” looks like her permanent expression. This is terrible but I can’t stop smiling and laughing at it. Day Maker.

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

She needs to send them back to Katy Perry, for whom the concept of ‘Too Much’ doesn’t apply.

    • Janet B

Those glasses with her eye brows? No, no, no.

    • schadenfreudelicious

she looks like some sort of anime/alien/bug….

    • http://www.facebook.com/crystal.harnden Crystal Harnden

I was thinking she looks like a fly.

    • Anathema_Device

I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone in glasses so horribly wrong for her or him. Just awful.

    • PeaceBang

This photo will someday serve as Exhibit A of everything that was ugly about fashion in 2012.

    • Trisha26

      Hate it all.

    • elirt

It looks like the glasses are slipping off her face and she’s surprised by it.

    • http://TheDoseofReality.com/ The Dose of Reality

My god I want that bag.

    • quiltrx

I think the top of these particular cat-eyes has too deep a drop for most faces.  These are kind of odd.

    • decormaven

Those shades remind me of Calvin from Calvin & Hobbes, who would draw open eyes on his eyelids so he appeared to be awake during school. I need some of those glasses for days when I’m not feeling engaged with the world.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

I think the angles are too severe, where most times its much softer.  It would have helped her immensely.  The raised eyebrows really do make it comical…

    • warontara

Oh Michelle, I feel your pain- I KNOW the cat-eye shades always look SO CUTE in the store. But, honey, us gals with round faces just cannot pull them off.

    • MaryAtRealityTea

This is a girl, that is not your look if I’ve ever seen it. Nothing about this is working and the proportions make her look plump and stumpy. Yuck.

    • 3285687

The baggy top that still wraps around her stomach fat isn’t exactly a winner either.
