Marion Cotillard in Christian Dior

Posted on November 06, 2012

Hey, remember all those times we said Marion Cotillard was born to wear Dior and she looks amazing in Dior and she should never wear anything but Dior?

Marion Cotillard attends the premiere of ‘Rust and Bone’ during the 2012 AFI Fest in a Christian Dior dress and shoes paired with Chopard jewelry.

Not so much!

Some sort of fetishy maid’s outfit?

  • http://profiles.google.com/adj.blair Adriana Blair

To be fair, I think she’s pulling it off the better than many other women could. But not even she could pull this mullet dress off.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1401197785 Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

My thoughts exactly. I can’t think of anyone who could make that fugly thing work!

    • Judy_S

They are lucky to have her.

    • gsk241

True.  That catastrophe is Dior’s fault, not Marion’s.

      • charlotte

But there is always the choice not to wear it.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/KBNJ6GJTXYEE6BON3WGK6KEGT4 Elizabeth

Yup. This is the time to pull out the new catch phrase (first coined on this site by Charlotte) …

“Whose Dress is it Anyway?” If Marion can’t pull it off, nobody can.

  • shopgirl716

    I really like the shoes.

  • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

I can’t tell—is the black layer a shorts/grannie panties thing, or is it a skirt?  Not that it makes much difference…..it’s weird either way.  She is trying hard, though, I’ll give her that.  The shoes are fun!

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_64HSRZWCSJ5RBFGCWDLFQOICYM G

Sometimes I think all the great dresses have already been designed.

  • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Well, guys, its really cause its just a damned stupid dress, innit?

    • StellaZafella

Oh I dunno, Kiltd: It’s a passable bib/apron for a black tie optional lobster feast.

      • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Thank you for my first out loud guffaw of the day.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=755957928 Veronica Russek

Color washes her off and she needs earrings. The whole outfit is a little too austere for my taste… Maybe make the flech colored part some ther color.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Patrick-Cleary/1201575213 Patrick Cleary

It’s like she went to a party in a smart little black dress, and at the party, all the guests were tasked with making gowns out of pink bathrobes, but ran out of thread, so she thought it was just easier to wear her half-completed project home.

  • 3boysful

This looks like a KStew outfit.

    • In_Stitches

She even has a KStew hairstyle and forced smile.  Maybe it’s a belated Halloween costume?

    • formerlyAnon

Yes. KStew would be wearing some of those awful bootie shoes.

  • Kathy_Marlow

    That’s no bueno…

  • schadenfreudelicious

apparently even Dior has bad days….

  • http://twitter.com/Lily1129 Wednesday Addams

Cut off the drapes at the length of the black skirt/shorts/whatever and make it a color and we’re in business.

  • ojosazules

This would be not so much on anyone. A terrible dress.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

It’s really Dior that is to blame here.  The pink part around her neck and chest looks like a bib.  Shorts with a ‘skirt’? This is no one’s dress.

  • B_C_J

The top portion of this dress is architectural and beautiful and the fit is terrific. The bottom portion is an abomination.  Had they simply closed the pale pink skirt it probably would have been magnificent.
Good shoes, beautiful hair and makeup.

  • http://twitter.com/Nancer Nancer

The top part worked, the bottom – yuck. If that black skirt was full-length, the proportions would be very nice. The colors are just ok, but not horrible. It’s the short skirt under the long, with the split – just fugly.

  • Mike Owens

    Ridiculous. But she’s spectacular.

  • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

Scrolldown fug. The top is nice. Too bad about the mullet skirt.

  • MilaXX

Let us pretend this doesn’t exist and never speak of it again.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1079163515 Hannah MacMillan

    i love it!!!

  • l_c_ann

If she’d stop clenching her fists in BOTH her pockets, the black underskirtshortswhatever wouldn’t be visible unless she walked.

The comic in me wishes, however, she’d do the Angelina Jolie askew leg pose in this dress, just because two wrongs make a really super wrong.

  • clatie

Remember when people used to design their own Oscar dresses?  This looks like one of those.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=122613264 Carly Warnock

I love it! She is most certainly pulling this off.

  • http://twitter.com/uyeahu Michelle Wilson

I think she looks cute, but she needs to put her shoulders down.

  • unbornfawn

Not her, its the Dior that’s not working.

  • frannyprof

    You don’t like? I do!

  • Candigirl1968

If it was an actual dress, rather than some bizarre pee-a-boo concoction, and it came to just above the knee, it might be cute.

  • MoHub

    The watch is nice.

    • poggi

      Yes,I love that watch.

  • Judih1

She’s making an ugly dress even uglier with her hands in her pocket

  • http://twitter.com/MitchGilburne Mitchell Gilburne

What is everyone talking about? I love this!

  • Nazzzy

    Nonsense! She looks great.

  • decormaven

That’s a dress? It’s curtained panties, for crying out loud.

  • Pants_are_a_must

To be fair, that dress is horrible. I’m giving her a pass, especially because her hair and make up are done well, for once.

  • Call me Bee

Well–it’s a really odd desgin, but I gotta say…perfectly tailored and styled.  Love the shoes and accessories with it, along with Mlle Cotillard’s makeup and hair.  She looks great, despite the wierd outfit!

  • kmk05

Ok, the dress is hideous. BUT! It’s not tight or wrinkly or trailing on the floor. It’s just… ugly. Her face, make up and accessories, however, are PERFECTION. I just want to stare and stare at her face.

  • crash1212

Well, to be fair, that’s quite the odd dress and she’s rocking it as hard as anybody could.

  • jw_ny

Perfect from the crotch up.  Oh no, below.

I’d be on board with this if the under-skirt and over-skirt were within 6″ of each other, in either direction.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1397307912 Jeremiah Capacillo

Biggest scrolldown fug for quite a while. It’s a shame cause the bodice is sorta pretty.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_F73LIJ3SJGI5AJQMXMWXCKILHI Pamela

Not a fan of the two-length dress but I gotta say she’s bringin’ it as hard as she can.

  • quiltrx

This reminds me of Grace Kelly’s swimsuit coverup in ‘To Catch a Thief’.  Which she was, you know, wearing as a swimsuit coverup.  Not as an RC dress.

Rare misstep from Dior, for sure.  But I LOVE that watch!!!!

    • sanja_ramic

Yeah I kept wondering if I’d like this in a different context, like maybe at a fabulous pool party with some killer sunglasses and a dramatic hat, and now I realise it’s because it reminds me of that Grace Kelly outfit. 100% agreed on the watch.

  • Laurie Bergman

That is a romper with cabana curtains! Yeesh.

  • formerlyAnon

Fairly un-wearable dress. IMO. She’s doing as well as anyone could & better than most. Someone with different hair/jewelry might have done more than she is to give the bodice a boost, but nothing is gonna save that skirt-thing. Nothing. I can see some of the younger celebs trying it with some of those damn booties, maybe even with crazy tights, and failing really hard.

    Nice shoes.

  • bertkeeter

I’d swear it was from Poject Runway! Sometimes the problem with designers at houses like DIOR, Lanvin, YSL is that the huge power and History of the “HOUSE” allows for such BS to be shoved off as true talent and creativity when in actualllity it’s just very mediocre!

  • Cathy S

I disagree. SHE still looks fabulous. It’s the dress that sucks.

  • EEKstl

If only the skirt had been “normal,” this would have totally worked for me.  And she’s actually wearing sufficient makeup this time!

  • procrastinatrice

I think she looks pretty damn amazing…it is not the best dress, but she makes it look fab.

  • A B

If the short black skirt/shorts/whatever they are was a long black skirt it might not be half bad.  That watch is a pretty nice distraction as it is though.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_5UQHEKG5EDX4T6NMARUC565TPQ Amy

I actually…LIKE IT! *hide head under table*

Please don’t hate me..I don’t agree with all mullet ensembles!

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000393765005 Garcia Loca

I rather like it too! I suspect it’s because Marion makes it look chic, in a non-sexual way.

  • msdamselfly

    I think it looks great

  • bitchybitchybitchy

Even Dior can strike out, it seems.

  • StephanieLovesTLo

I think she is werqing this as well as anyone could. I like it.

  • TSkot

How beautiful it would be if that was a black panel in front that went to the floor.

  • Qitkat

I love the beautiful watch on the lovely Marion.
The delicate shoes would snap a mere mortal’s ankle, especially when they don’t fit.
The only thing I can say about the Dior is that it rhymes with pinafore.

  • VicksieDo

    I love that look!!

  • veronkimo

TLo, we keep disagreeing today! She looks so fierce! The top portion is so bada**! The bottom isn’t bad. It’s just so different, that I love it! Her hair and makeup is flawless!

  • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

Well really, I think it’s more that Dior should never make a mullet hem dress.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1594250515 Kim Brightman

Reminds me of a hot pants outfit I wore in the 70s.

  • LeifBallard

I really like the look IF the black skirt was the same length as the nude skirt.

  • gg80302

    I don’t think it’s that bad…am I crazy?

  • marilyn

That is because this is a bad Dior.

  • http://www.flickr.com/photos/21151157@N00/ rawrgrowlrawr

My boyfriend has a huge, ridiculously annoying crush on her, so this makes the insecure bitch in me quite pleased.

  • thecitysleeps

Well she’s trying.  That skirt/skirt is just bad.  Boo, because I like the neck part.  I want the shoes.

  • PrunellaV

I think this is a Swintonesque WERQ, actually.

  • granddelusion

    Maybe not EVERY Dior.

  • AuntieAnonny

I like it, but then again, I have an I Love Lucy bias.

  • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

I think your premise stands – Marion Cotillard should wear Dior BUT not all Dior should be worn by Marion Cotillard.

  • BrightsideSusan

    Dior let her down.

  • http://www.facebook.com/renate.yerkes Renate Yerkes

    no way! she looks gorgeous!

  • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

Never thought I’d say it, but DIOR FAIL.

  • http://twitter.com/nkk Nikki

Why does she look like miley?

eeewww why did I even say that? I’m so sorry…

  • http://twitter.com/Nefatitij NEFA SAY DIE

Yknow what….sometimes fashion is so weird that what looks off to the lay-eye is now chic to the haute eye. I took this for one of those weird haute chic things when I looked at it. Her hair looks right, the cutouts and the drape to the fabric look right. The only thing throwing things off is the shoes. Pageant does not go with haute chic. But she looks great to me. ankles up.

  • http://twitter.com/Nefatitij NEFA SAY DIE

But you know what though, I am election drunk. meaning I just got drunk watching the election results at a bar. So my judgement be damned. lol.

  • http://twitter.com/tommarkiewicz88 tom markiewicz

i think she looks bold, chic and smokin’ as hell!

  • Sweetvegan

She looks uncomfortable, like she’s shivering.

  • PeaceBang

KILLING ME with the scrolldown fug!

  • http://randomizm.tumblr.com Chiara Popalopa

I think it would have worked perfectly with a more defined waist

  • http://www.facebook.com/DelvingEye Delving Eye

I bounced here directly from Kristen Stewart in that frightful yellow butt-pleated horror, so Marion is looking pretty damn good. For one, compare the shaved legs of the two ladies. Cotillard’s are smooth as silk. KStew’s [http://www.tomandlorenzo.com/2012/11/kristen-stewart-in-christian-dior-at-twilight-premiere.html, 3rd pic down] — not so much.
