Lea Michele in Rag & Bone on Jay Leno

Posted on November 14, 2012

Lea once again “of courses” herself all over the Leno set.

Lea Michele makes an appearance on ‘The Tonight Show With Jay Leno’ in Rag & Bone. Sandals by Giuseppe Zanotti.

Rag & Bone Renard Leather Top

Giuseppe Zanotti Spring 2013 Ankle-Strap Sandals

We would’ve been fine with the look if it didn’t have that little strip of belly skin showing. We wouldn’t have loved it, but we would have been fine with it. The skirt comes up a little too high on her and the leather top is awkward-looking paired with it. The combo does weird things to her natural proportions, making her look long-legged and short-torso’d.

We’ll give her credit for the shoes, though. They’re killer.

She needs to lay off the black eyeliner too-holy raccoon eyes!

    • DeborahJozayt

She can’t pull it off quite like Kristen Stewart can. Lea is sugary sweet, and she needs something softer to complement that.

    • Sobaika

I like eyeliner on her, her strong features can handle it. But her people use a really really heavy hand with eye makeup and bronzer.

  • hughman

At this point I not only roll my eyes at her styling choices, I kind of wonder why she’s still so visible. Pushing the cold carcass of “Glee” around? If she went out and actually did something interesting career-wise I might pay more attention.

  • Emily Rose

I mean I think she is actually long-legged and short torsoed for how short she is. For me this is actually the least “of course” she’s been in a while.

    • http://www.flickr.com/photos/21151157@N00/ rawrgrowlrawr

I agree. I’m 5’7, so not quite as short as her, but I have similar proportions. I am all leg. I know many disagree, but I like how high-waisted garments accentuate the leg length, even if it is at the expense of an elongated mid section. Ms. Michele annoys me to no end, but I think she looks very cute here.

I’m 5’9″ with a 31″ inseam, High waists and mid-rises are my best friend.

        • http://twitter.com/meg_a_wo_man Megs

I am 5’9 with an inseam of 34″ – while I love a high waisted pencil skirt, I find high waist pants just make me look absurd

  • http://twitter.com/Nancer Nancer

I think this is really cute on her!

  • Sara

No. I can’t even get behind the shoes, unless you mean “killer” in the sense that I’d rather die than see another human being wear them, ever. Horrible from top to bottom.

    • gabbilevy

      Yup.

    • CozyCat

I think the shoes are “killer” in the sense that that’s what they do to your feet.

  • ChiliP

Looking at the first picture, I didn’t get the “of course.” Then I saw the second picture. Oh, LEA. Come on now, honey.

  • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

Maybe she needs to try a new of course of action.

  • MarissaLG

It’s definitely an “of course”, but she looks mad cute.

  • In_Stitches

That top is some gold scroll-work away from being Xena’s formal-wear breastplate.

  • PinkLemon

i thought the ‘ol ‘of course’ would get old, but no, it never does. it works too well.

  • deltabronze

At least she chose a skirt she could sit down in.

    • wisdomy

I used to have that exact same skirt, but I got it from the Gap in 2005ish.

  • stardust462

At least she can comfortably sit down for an interview in this outfit.

  • MilaXX

I don’t even care about the belly baring top. I hate that she had an unfortunate self tanner accident and then thought it was cute enough to come on tv and share rather than have the makeup artist cover it with body makeup. This child grates like no other.

    • formerlyAnon

Yup. The bit I saw included that story. She was really annoying.

  • charlotte

    O… never mind.

  • theblondette

Her cooch is safely covered, which makes it a win.

I am SO over ombre hair.

    • GorgeousThings

“Her cooch is safely covered, which makes it a win.”
Man, that’s damning with faint praise!

      • theblondette

Lea Michele, for a very pretty girl, has set the bar pretty low, soooo… any victory is a victory, however small!

  • Mismarker

I need this ombre hair trend to be over.  Like yesterday.

    • theblondette

My local drugstore is selling do-it-yourself ombre kits. NOOOOO

      • Mismarker

That, my friend, is what’s called a recipe for disaster.  NOOOOO, indeed!

      • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

I saw those the other day and just thought “that won’t end well”.

      • NC_Meg

People need a kit for that? Don’t you just dye half your hair and call it a day?

        • random_poster

Yes! I think this is especially true when you see the hair dyed with colorful kool-aid.

  • http://promiscuouslola.com/ Cate

I landed on the page, saw the picture and thought “well this isn’t so bad.” then I scrolled down and said “of course.” UGH.

    • Janet B

      Me too!

  • crash1212

It might be an ‘of course’, but it’s a cute cleavage/cooch-less ‘of course’, which makes it a IN to me. I also like the skirt she chose better than the all leather on the model and her hair and make-up are pretty. I like this look – even with a strip of belly.

  • Iowachick

Not a word from anyone about the sidebulge in pic 4?

    • Vera L-

I noticed it. She’s tiny (except for the hooves) and for an outfit to give her side bulge is just NO

      • lrhg

Yeah, I could probably fit her in my pocket so how damn small is that skirt?

  • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

I really like the skirt & I am grateful it isn’t the matching leather one. If the top were a couple of inches longer I think the proportions would be fine. Can she go away now please?

  • f_yeah_marie

    Her eye makeup is awful

  • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

I actually don’t mind the dress — it’s actually pretty good, for her — but what is going on with her hair?  It looks dirty.

    • Lisa_Cop

Yes. Dirtier than KStew and that’s not good.

  • B_C_J

As separates I find the elements of her outfit acceptable. I like the shoes in particular. However, the combination is not working for her. The hair is plain ugly.  The ends almost have a slight greenish tint.

  • RobertBestBarbie

I dislike her so much that I can’t even begin to be objective.  Her legs look great, though, I’ll give her that.

  • Cathy S

Yeah, the shoes are great. Everything else is not.

  • GorgeousThings

Remember Dames vs. Divas? We need an annoying celebrity cage match contest here at TLo!

I nominate Lea Michele vs. Anne Hathaway to start off. And at the top of the irritating celebrity pyramid would be Gwyneth Paltrow!

    • http://profiles.google.com/thehilariest The Hilariest

Paltrow vs Squinty. I’d pay to watch that, so long as it was “to the death (of their time in the public eye).” For both of them.

    • formerlyAnon

      Boys version too!

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

The ombre hair also must go.  I don’t  think her make up is doing her any favors. I agree its the belly strip that pushes it to “of course” territory.  Damn it Lea, you are far too gorgeous for this nonsense, it must stop.

  • decormaven

Child, you almost have yourself covered this time and you go for the belly baring top. One trick pony status coming up fast in the rearview mirror.

  • http://twitter.com/LianaBrooks Liana Brooks

    That top looks painful.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Julie-Chase/731391326 Julie Chase

Homer Simpson’s makeup gun attacks AGAIN.

  • http://profiles.google.com/valencia.lucia87 Lucía Valencia

I’m so honest to God so tired of her. Those “I’M SO NICE, LOOK AT HOW NICE I AM” open mouth smiles are killing my afternoon.

  • kentiesgirl

How much did they have to take off that top to make it show skin? She’s like 5’1″.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/DNWEFT2SVBX5T3NPMROQCT4U2U jennyv

I think she looks super cute!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1239961104 Jean Albus

You guys are getting kind of fuddy-duddy.

  • alyce1213

She’s all “Look at me! Lea Michele is here!” and I just can’t.
I think the high waist is doing something good for her natural proportions, though.
And the shoes are to die for.

    But no. Of course.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/KM5F6YLMLXS3AIQ5H3BIIIVABA fabulous

I just want to slap her.  Repeatedly.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Linda-Harris/1358701372 Linda Harris

She’s mostly covered, so that’s good. I haven’t been here in a week because last Wed, I had emergency surgery for a detached retina and I have to keep my head facing the floor for two weeks-bummer

    • formerlyAnon

That head-facing-floor deal sounds incredibly difficult to achieve for two weeks. But here’s hoping you work out techniques to make it bearable and that your eye heals well!

      (edited for typo)

  • lrhg

I saw the first picture and thought she looked fine and then I saw the shot of her standing up. Oh Lea…of course.

  • http://twitter.com/shinobi42 Shinobi

Can we talk about how long it takes for highlights to grow out?  Wow.  (I am now reading more comments and apparently this is an intentional thing? Because for real, it looks like her highlights are growing out.)

  • kimmeister

What is going on with her skirt in the 2nd pic?  It’s like somebody attached a string and is trying to yank her offstage.

It seems to me that fashion industry standard is that short torso / long leg is a good thing, no?  Those of us with long torsos have to resign ourselves to never being able to wear one piece bathing suits or off-the-rack sheath dresses, ever.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1401197785 Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

I sort of like it on her. Geez o pete. First, I like a McCartney dress, now Lea isn’t making me roll my eyes! Is this going to cost me my Bitter Kitten status?

  • neofashionista

her torso look like a black baseball no bueno at all uggghhh irration hatred flare!!!

  • Scarlet39

Is she on Leno every week?  It seems like it.   Anyway, I kind of actually like this on her for some reason.  I agree that it would be better if it weren’t midriff baring, but overall, I think it’s a nice look

  • TieDye64

The shoes are super hot. Everything else is not.

  • Imasewsure

Dude looks like a lady…. Just bad drag

  • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

Designers, what in the holy hell is with the strips of midriff showing? MAKE. IT. STOP.

  • glennethph

I just saw clips of Spring Awakening again, I was looking for Skylar Astin (Pitch Perfect) and John Gallagher Jr (The Newsroom).  I completely forgot she was in it, and wow, she was a baby back then.  Who woulda thunk she’d grow up to be like this.

  • formerlyAnon

I saw a few minutes of this, but she was sitting and I didn’t catch the strip of bare midriff. I *was* wondering what had happened that her neckline was high and her skirt length was reasonable, but now I’m reassured.

I have to say that I thought her style of speaking was really, really, really annoying. If I were a better person I’d allow as how maybe she was a little over-animated due to on air adrenaline, but I just can’t.

  • Zippypie

If she kept the original cut of the dress, I would give her a pass, but of course, this is Lea Michele.  She MUST SHOW SKIN.  At least the dress is long enough to cover her good china sitting, which is usually not the case with her.  I’m so sick of this chick.

  • Call me Bee

Hmmmm I’ve spent my life trying to look loong-legged and short-torso’d.  So–this is not so bad to my eye.  I just wish both the top and the skirt were a titch longer.

  • quiltrx

Something looks really odd about her makeup…maybe too-light concealer/foundation and too/dark raccoon eyes and brows?  Anyway, something is weird and fake about it.

And this is a terrible sit-down outfit.  It would be cute standing IF it actually met in the middle.

  • Trisha26

Just awful. Why not wear the entire leather outfit though? I hate when blacks don’t match – not to mention different fabrics & textures.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Bob-Sponge/100000465550991 Bob Sponge

I love how you guys use “of course” as a verb in her case.

  • alyssia Hays

Lea IS long legged and short torso’d if she could just figure out what to wear to balance it out she’d look perfect. I love her without those goddawful bangs

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1832126583 Mary Lauer

    LOVE the shoes!!

  • veronkimo

I keep finding myself disagreeing with you on a lot of these younger celebrities! I think she looks great here. It’s not as “of course” as normal, but for Lea, this is downright modest. I love the kick in the skirt. It’s so cute. Obvs, when she sits down, it doesn’t look as good. I know, if you’re going to do a sit down interview, then you need to have a look that works while sitting. BUT, I think she still looks pretty awesome in the standing poses!

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mary-Stone/100001328135240 Mary Stone

The side shot of the vest thing and what it’s doing when she sits down is RIDICULOUS.

    OF COURSE.

  • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

At least she doesn’t need to cover her va-jay-jay with her hands. Progress!

  • ZnSD

    yuck

  • KathKo

My guess is that she LOVES the string of “off courses” every single one of her appearances initiates.
I picture her peering at fashion magazines with a note book on her lap, checking adn dutifully noting the outfits that will make us scream.
She’s a little devil, that one.

  • oohsparkley!

I think it’s cute. She’s young enough for the little strip of exposed skin. Now if this was on JLo I’d be criticizing.
