Kristen Stewart in Peter Pilotto

Posted on November 06, 2012

Another entry in the “God, you bitches are never happy” sweepstakes:

Kristen Stewart makes an appearance on ‘The Tonight Show With Jay Leno’ in a Peter Pilotto dress.

Peter Pilotto Resort 2013 Collection/Model: Josephine Skriver

See, ever since we started commenting on red carpet and celebrity fashion, we’ve bemoaned their collective fear of things like color and pattern. Lately, that’s changed – and it’s served as a wonderful illustration of why celebs tend to avoid them: because so much can go wrong when you wander away from neutral solids. We give her a lot of credit for making the attempt, but we really hope NBC ran a seizure warning during the breaks. And the seaming is really awkward here; it’s actually working against her body, camoufluging her natural shape.

Also: her hair kind of looks like shit, although her makeup is pretty.

I like her so much better in edgier looks, and this is not it.

    • LesYeuxHiboux

If ever a girl were born to wear Balmain and Balenciaga, it’s Kristen.

  • RebeccaKW

Her hair kind of looks like shit goes without saying in a KStew post.

The dress is cute, I guess, but the pattern is unflattering.  Too short for sitting down, as well.

    • I agree it is too short for a sit down. But, in a different context, I kind of love this dress. And Kristen’s legs are amazing in it – which is hard to do.

    •  Her hair looks like shit BUT it looks like clean and kind of fluffy shit, which is surely a win? The dress is definitely a standing up dress, but she’s got her legs crossed so tightly there is no way she is flashing. Definitely the right way to go if you HAVE to wear a dress so short.

    • Aurumgirl

True.  But then again, I can’t think of anyone who’s ever looked good in a dress by this designer.  He likes to play with the energy of colour and cut, but the result is always working against the body it’s dressing.

  • The placement of the red pattern down the front of the skirt is really unfortunate.

    • kimmeister

Oh, dear, I hadn’t noticed that.

    • sk8tfan

Now that you mention it I can’t unsee it. I actually kind of like the dress on her; as is often the case with her, the hair ruins the look.

    • Rrroza

So true. Surprising how often this sort of thing happens.

    • snarkykitten

that’s all I could think of. It looks vulgar.

  • I actually kinda like this. Maybe not for TV, but she’s pulling it off.  The hair is always my issue with her. What is the point of looking so polished when you can’t be bothered to make the hair match?

    • kimmeister

I think that’s one of my peeves in general, when there is a vast difference in the level or formality or effort that goes into hair, makeup, and attire.  I see teens with a full face of makeup, but wearing sweats.  Or then there’s my real estate agent friend who must spend an hour shoveling makeup on to her face, then she goes out the door with her hair in a messy knot and clothes that have never seen an iron.  Consistency, people!

      • I just don’t understand the sweats. It’s just as easy and comfy to throw on a pair of jeans/pants and a sweater

Everyone should just listen to me all the time. I am careful about what I eat so my skin is healthy – make up only to accent. And find a hair style and hair routine that plays with the natural qualities of hair rather than straightening and curling. So I have time to put on real clothes.

  • filmcricket

“her hair kind of looks like shit, although her makeup is pretty” That’s going to be the subtitle of her unauthorized biography, I think.

I don’t care much for the dress itself, but she’s pulling it off about as well as anyone possibly could I guess.

  • choco

it kinda looks like she has a new STD, in the form of flaming boobs and crotch infections

  • Anathema_Device

Oh, I like this a lot. I agree it is a lot for a television appearance and the front looks like a bib, but it is still working for me.

    Agree on the hair, though.

  • I really love this dress, actually. the hair is terrible though.

    • frederieke

I love it too. I want it. I don’t even mind the hair.

  • warontara

This dress is cute, but too much pattern for tv and insanely short for a sit-down interview. Nice to see her smiling, though.

  • I like the dress – the pattern’s cool.  The shoes don’t really work for me though.  And the sloppy ponytail….**sigh**…I’m pretty sure on ‘The Tonight Show’ they have a decent hair stylist that could’ve helped her with something better….unless that’s what they came up with…..dearie me!

  • elleg929

Her hair always looks like shit.

    • christinewithanx

It’s true. I feel like I do my hair more often than her, which is not saying too much!

      • elleg929

Exactly.  I was home sick yesterday and my hair looked like hers.  Even a little effort on her part would be nice.

      • Carolyn

But someone has done her hair, there is no way she just pulled it up into a pony tail. A hairdresser is doing this on purpose!
The same deal when she appears with all of her hair swept to one side and looking as though she hasn’t washed it in weeks.

  • I actually love the dress. Make up is pretty, hair is kind of a mess. But I applaud her for wearing something fun and not overly sexy.

  • kayleymaybe

It’s interesting because she’s so obviously uncomfortable in interviews and in these settings, so it’s almost like she wears the crazy print outfit to distract from what she’s saying…

  • ritalinsmoothie

I’ve made up my mind after seeing her pics yesterday and today: Kristen Stewart is really not that pretty.

And she can’t really carry off most of the clothes the designers are throwing her way.

  • petalfrog

    I love it.

  • warnerave

she looks pretty and the dress really suits her, fun and colorful!

  • charlotte

She’s smiling. I give her that.

  • m0r0

I was wondering if you guys would pick this one up.
Sorry, the dress is FABULOUS. Looks great on her and fits her beautifully. Hair and makeup are a big thumbs down.

  • I like the dress quite a bit, actually, but the point about it being too much for TV is well taken. I could be okay with the sloppy ponytail, even, if it didn’t have the loose strand (it IS KStew, after all). What I really dislike is the shoe choice; which isn’t to say they aren’t a perfectly acceptable pair of shoes, just that this dress is begging for a more interesting, edgier shoe. That, an extra inch on the hem, and maybe a pair of earrings and I would feel like this is a pretty good look for her.

  • anne.landre

I think it’s a great dress, executed in a hideous print that does nothing but distract from all the nice details; neckline treatment, cap sleeves, waist details and kicky skirt. Her hair? If you’re not going to bother, at least cover it with a scarf. It offends.

  • teensmom99

I love the way she looks here–kind of wish there was a category for “Not your typical look & don’t try it every day but very fun way of mixing it up.” And while I’d like to see an inch or 2 more at the hem, the width of the skirt kept this from being too embarrassing–but she is kind of holding it down as she sits, isn’t she?

  • Clara Gomes

Awww I loved it, didnt gave me a seizure at all lol she looks quite girlie, which is unusual to her and I liked a lot

  • wisenhar

    Dress, that’s not your girl.

  • I love it.

  • veronkimo

Y’all are ridiculous! She looks fantastic! That  dress is so eye catching! It definitely appeals to a younger audience. She just has this easy, effortless appeal to her. She doesn’t need to have a slick hairdo to look great. As a 21 year old, I think she looks fabulous! I don’t think the seaming effect is bad.

    • I think she looks awesome, personally. A *little* more effort in the hair would be nice, but her makeup is lovely.

  • EEKstl

See, I really like this – but as usual bemoan her unkempt hair.

  • Pants_are_a_must

It’s okay if a celeb I don’t like messes up like this. I’m just that childish and mean.

  • I love the dress and her makeup. But that hair… what is wrong with her?!

  • ScarlettHarlot

KStew, I feel like we’ve been over this before: Brush. Your. Hair.

  • nannypoo

Her hair always kind of looks like shit, so this is nothing new. The dress is awful, but it’s youthful and not slutty. She seems to be practicing facial expressions other than “hostile” and “bored”. I didn’t see the show, but based on these pictures I’d say it’s a win for her.

  • I think she looks great, and you guys are never satisfied.

  • I like this, actually. I think it looks cute.

  • i like this dress a lot on her.
she looks awkward and vaguely pissed off, but thats just kristen being kristen.

  • erinbinek

I really think she looks great here- and I despise her.  The hair looks terrible, though.

  • Inspector_Gidget

You know, as cracktastic  as this look may be, it’s something new from her.  She’s borderline unrecognizable without the raccoon eyes and Hot Topic angst.  So there is a relatively well-adjusted person somewhere underneath that whole “Mom and Dad SO don’t get me” persona!

  • i actually like the dress, except the colors are a bit serape-like.  Ay, caramba!

“her hair looks like shit” could be a comment on most looks i’ve seen lately.

  • Joyce VG

At least she’s trying I give her that.  Her yoga hair is laughable but that’s dear delightful Kristen Stewart!  Even tho I’ve been a fan of Twilight lo these many years I have to say I will be glad not to see her awkward body language as much anymore.  She’s a young woman up against a lot of scrutiny (mine included) and she needs a break from it all to grow up.

  • PeaceBang

The dress IS visual warfare and her hair is como huevos revueltos, but who is this fresh-faced, smiling girl? KStew, is that YOU? I like it! I like it!

  • fungstyle

I love this dress on her, but damn it if she doesn’t look like she just yanked that hair into a pony tail before doing the dishes. I have been known to go out in public in loungey/PJ-esque pants and even I don’t go out with my hair looking that messy.

  • I always assume w/KStew’s hair that she got antsy sitting in the stylist’s chair and was all, “Fuck it, put it in a pony – it’ll be fine.”

  • JMansm

I Like her hair except for the weird 1990’s prom strand in front of her face. Otherwise, it’s very Juliet from LOST.

  • Judy_S

I like the dress, except. I like the Southwestern blanket-and-pottery patterns, but not the Georgia O’Keefe skirt. At least when she sat down the effect was dimmed….

  • decormaven

I think the pattern of the dress is indicative of her mood. She’s one RC shy of a complete melt down. Honestly, this movie is being promo’d to death; give this gal a reprieve from the bright lights.

  • formerlyAnon

I hate this dress. It reminds me too strongly of “home sewn from bargain priced remnants” when money is tight.  And there’s something about the proportions on both Ms. Stewart & the model that makes me think there wasn’t enough fabric to make the dress as long as intended.

That one can see that the dress is artfully and very intentionally assembled, not just pieced together as best as one could to eke out the material, doesn’t correct the impression.  I still HATE this dress.

  • You’re being too kind to say her hair “kind of” looks like shit.  Once again, I don’t understand: you’re a world-famous celebrity, appearing on “The Tonight Show”, and you and/or your stylist can’t do any better than tangled hair, pulled back in a rubber band, with one random piece hanging out just for fun?

As they say in “Chicago”, whatever happened to class?

  • i loved this so much on her and was so excited to read TLO’s praise! i don’t even like kstew and i loved this look!

  • Janet B

    Kristen looks good.

The seams on the bodice are awkward, but otherwise I think this dress is a good choice for her.

  • Oddly enough, this is perhaps my favorite look of hers – possibly because she actually seems happy for a change, but also because the kicky little dress seems to suit her, and her hair, while on the messy side, doesn’t bug me nearly as much as the too-high make-my-head-look-way-too-long style in that last IN/OUT entry on her.

  • Lilithcat

Good god.  An anatomically correct dress.  In public, yet.  Did no one look at the skirt and see the very unfortunate pattern placement? Because it was the very first thing I noticed.

  • B_C_J

Horrible dress – the pattern is dizzying and the colors are garish. My eyes are watering.

  • I kinda like it–though y’all’re completely right on the seizure part, and that weird front slit looks a little too vadgal for me. . .

  • That’s the most emotions I’ve ever seen her display.

  • jorinde

i don’t think there’s anything wrong here. except hair.

  • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Not one of Peter Pilotto’s best.  And her hair is a disgrace.

  • MissFern

earrings?  make-up?  that stupid strand of hair?

  • Lisa Dugan

I actually like this. It’s busy but it works on her.

  • I love it!

  • JasmineAM

I loathe this woman, but I LOVE her personal style. I would raid her closet in a heartbeat.

  • tallgirl1204

but at least it sits down without revealing the good china.

  • semirose

She looked so cute on the show but I think that was 90% due to the fact that she was smiling the whole time. She just looks so pretty when she can other to smile.

  • KC

I like it. I think its kind of cute except for the part in the middle of her skirt.

  • E_bee

To be fair, it’s working on her body exactly the way it works on the model’s.

  • ellabob

She seldom looks good – always annoying and way too much attention for little talent…

  • unbornfawn

OK, I thought it was because I irrationally don’t like her. Her hair does look like shit, and that dress is an over designed mess.

  • newtonGOTbeaned

Seriously? She looks great. I only wish she were wearing Kristin Chenoweth’s boots from the pictures of her and her fluffy dog.

  • MilaXX

I don’t like the cute of the dress, it looks juvenile on her. The lazy hair ain’t helping.

  • pookiesmom

Really? I actually think she looks amazing.

  • granddelusion

It’s awkward, but she wears it well.

  • DominoEstella

I love this and I think she looks awesome.  You guys sound like my conservative neighbors.

  • DinahR

I love this look!  but I agree it’s not for tv.   If she were making an appearance at an event where she might be photographed, then yes.   Not only is the print a little hard on the eyes watching HD but her hair is better suited to a party appearance somewhere where the that ponytail might look more artfully mussed rather than just plain old mussed.  Still, I like this more than her last featured outfit by far.

  • Good length for sitting though…I’m surprised she didn’t wear black…

  • Allison Woods

It is a touch short for a talk show chair, but it’s really cute, almost a WERK to me.

  • really? i kind of thought she looked wonderful. for her.

  • margaret meyers

That dress is not attractive.   And she needs a hair brush.  Now.

  • Trisha26

Doesn’t look as though she’s washed her hair for at least 3 days. Dis-tressing.

  • I love this on her! She needs to do something about the hair.

  • quiltrx

The front of the skirt looks like a giant bajingo.  I can’t unsee it.

  • elzatelzabelz

This is all over not good. At all.

  • zelavie

I don’t think I’d ever seen her in an interview before I stumbled on this last night.  My word, that girl is DULL.

  • Hm. I sort of like this, and I like it the more I look at it.

  • Stand up straight girl, you’re a celebrity.

  • It’s a crazy dress that works for her.

  • ecallaw1977

    Oooooh, I love it.

  • It’s a headache-inducing print but I think she looks great.

  • briecee

KStew!  Your Grandma’s kitchen called.  It wants its rug back.

  • MaryAtRealityTea

It looks really striking when she’s walking out, but then when she’s sitting down it’s lite-brite on acid.

  • guest2visits

I thought this looked really good on her – I would have liked to see her complete the look with a more colorful pair of shoes.
