Keira Knightley in Valentino Couture

Posted on November 08, 2012

We’re feeling the need, after all that ho-tastic Victoria’s Secret nonsense, for some simple, lady-like elegance.

Keira? That’s your cue.

Keira Knightley attends the ‘Anna Karenina’ New York Special Screening at Florence Gould Hall in New York City in a Valentino couture gown paired with Chanel jewelry.

Valentino Fall 2012 Couture Collection/Model: Bette Franke (VIVA)

Ah. There we go. The black underlay sort of works against the pretty blue lace, but it’s still a lovely look. Too understated to be a WERQ maybe, but just what we needed right now to amuse our bouches.

  • I dunno, gents. Looks like a WERQ to these jaded old faggyman eyes.

    • Me too! Need!

    • Agreed.

    • ecallaw1977

I think on a normal day it might be too understated for a WERQ, but after VS it could not look more gorgeous.  Her eyes look phenomenal, and this style just suits her so well.

    • Totally. How often do you see such perfection?

    • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

I agree!  Hair, makeup, gown, jewels – it is all perfect.  She looks absolutely beautiful.

  • VicksieDo

    WERQ from me. STUNNING

  • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

Lace yet I don’t hate it, it’s pretty and feminine.  I was just watching Never Let Me Go last night and she’s great in that, as she usually is IMHO.  Her final scene is heartbreaking.

    • eowyn_of_rohan

She was amazing in that.  And she looks perfectly lovely here.

    •  Because that’s the way to do lace, simply, elegantly, and not bridal.

    • MaryAtRealityTea

I read that book and bawled and bawled. I could never make myself see the movie because I was such a mess reading it on an airplane people probably thought I had escaped from the nervous breakdown ward at Promises.

  • NNgela

    Wow, absolutely gorgeous.

  • MsOlympia

That is the most beautiful makeup I have ever seen!

    • kschwarting

Her face looks absolutely gorgeous.  Not sure whether I love the dress or not, but I just keep looking at her face so I guess it doesn’t matter!

      • MsOlympia

It seriously stopped me in my tracks.  The very picture of polished and chic!

  • PeaceBang

Very pretty gown but the hair is a let-down. Looks very DYI. Also, and this is snitty, I’m already disappointed in “Anna Karenina” just from the previews.

    • Very lovely but the hair keeps it from being a WERQ for me.  I haven’t seen the previews.  Are they really that bad?  Sometimes previews aren’t even in the movie, so here’s hoping…

      • decormaven

Agreed on the hair. It’s so slicked back, I almost want it to have an Alfalfa cowlick, just for kicks.

  • Gorgeous. And she is amazing in this film. Go Knightley!

  • granddelusion

  • CPK1

love it, she looks so chic and beautiful. Although I wish she had worn the cape thingy too

  • She hardly looks like herself. In the thumbnail, I thought it was Michelle Dockery. Not that she looks bad, far from it.

  • snarkykitten

not digging the spider lashes tho
on only the one eye! weird

  • nannypoo

She was born to wear these beautiful gowns. Great casting for the movie.

  • It looks like she has the same issue as me, where one eyebrow involuntarily twerks ever so slightly. It endears her to me a lot.
    Great look.

  • That’s the way to werq a red lip.  Ravishing.

  • erinbinek

Hair and makeup is truly lovely- possibly the best I’ve seen on her.  The dress loses a bit of its specialness when you add the lining underneath, I think.  Just an okay dress, but still a sight for sore eyes after the Victoria’s Not-so-secret show.

  • Julie Fountain

Her makeup looks fantastic. I’m so glad eyebrows are back.

    • mshesterp

I thought her eyebrows looked fierce too.  Her face is looking absolutely amazing.

  • schadenfreudelicious

i love the “bluer” version of the dress, but obviously an underlay was essential, her face is flawless, i covet those eyebrows…

  • Zippypie

Very pretty but the severe hair kills the overall look for me.  If she had pulled her hair back without plastering it down, she would have been nearly perfect.

  • l_c_ann

I love the way ‘they’ worked multiple layers of lining under the lace top.  ‘Til they made it modest.

(For me, no movie can ever compare with Dr. Zhivago, watched at a cinema in Germany with a German boyfriend.)  (Ah, youth.)

    • Qitkat

DZ, London. Ahh, youth indeed. It was magical then, has never quite felt the same upon re-viewing it.

  • Lisa Kramp

Elegance trumps all. That’s a WERQ to me.

  • Love the dress, love the styling. Win win.

  • Michael Owens

    Her face is enchanting.

    • maygoon

       I covet her eyebrows

  • Qitkat

Is Keira’s dress even navy? Beautiful, yes, but I love the very navy version. Lining it ought not to take away the color. The sleeves look so close to black. Perhaps it is the difference in lighting.

  • Kyle Crawford

She is beautiful. The dress is stunning  – but …. it is just a tiny tiny bit to old for her…

  • greymain

my bouche is truly amused! beautiful…………..

  • Isana Leshchinskaya

it needed just a tad of sparkle for a werq

  • Anyone who looks that good under fluorescent lighting deserves more than a WERQ, someone should buy her a pie or something. This was the New York premiere and she was standing next to a movie poster on a folding easel? In the corner? Against a white wall? Hey Gould Hall, step it up.

  • crash1212

Just what my eyes needed to wash the ugly from VS away! Beautiful.

  • Snailstsichr

This is how to do lace! And, OMG, the eyebrows. swoon.

  • Kate4queen

    lovely. 🙂

  • carolynmo

Ho-tastic! I love learning new words.

  • Sara__B

She looks lovely, like the elegant movie stars of days gone by. And she’s softened that notorious prune face expression of hers. Looks like a WERQ to me, too.

  • Anathema_Device

Gorgeous. I vote for  WERQ, too.No yoga hair, she’s wearing earrings, makeup is good, dress is fantastic.

  • MilaXX

Very nice, clean simple and beautiful.

  • Monday1900

She looks lovely.  I’m going to see Anna Karenina pretty much solely for the clothes.

  • guest2visits

Oh this is perfection. Amazingly beautiful, even when stuck in a corner with the posters.

  • maybe it’s just my screen, but keira’s dress doesn’t look nearly as blue as the runway version.  so the black underlay doesn’t bother me.

  • That’s lovely.  But when I steal – uh, borrow – mine I’ll wear it with the cape.

  • I’m so glad she didn’t wear the skirt sheer! I’m so sick of that look!  Elegance and class, bring it on Kiera!

  • Call me Bee

Stunning.  Too bad they made her stand in that corner.

  • I. LOVE. HER. I think she looks gorgeous. I kind of wish the underlay was navy, but it’s still simply beautiful.

  • lesmaha

  • I like it… I like it a lot, in fact…. She looks very pretty and elegant…

The lace is blue???? Looks like black on black to me. But I did go to the eye doctor today and I do need new glasses.

  • quiltrx

I actually like the play of the blue lace off the black underlay.  Now let’s just give this dress to someone I don’t detest. 🙂

  • siriuslover

The dress is gorgeous. I love the side view picture–very elegant. I just could kick that cameraman who told her that she should never smile (or that her smile was ugly, can’t remember the exact comment).

  • Carly Warnock

    She is exceptionally beautiful.

  • shawnhunter

it’s a WERQ for me, kinda took my breath away. after closer inspection, i completely understand the black underlay comment though.

  • I have lady boners for Keira Knightley.

In my fantasy, we frolick around wearing only Coco Mademoiselle perfume and sports bras while shouting British curse words and rating cleavages, and then she lets me try on her couture gowns. Its pretty steamy.

  • J MN

She looks flawless.  The hem and sleeve length is perfect, as is her makeup and hair.  So happy the skirt liner is full length and doesn’t stop at her thighs.  Totally classy.  I’m sitting up a little straighter in her photo presence.

  • Lovely and understated. It WERQs for me too.

  • thecitysleeps

WERQ for sure.  Beautiful and classy.

  • now that’s a face. she looks flawless!

  • MoHub

    Total WERQ.

  • B_C_J

  • EEKstl

Stunning. I’d give her a WERQ for total, understated elegance.

  • She is beautiful.

  • Flawless.  Let me count the ways
The dress fits her like a glove and is hemmed
The hair is sleek without being all pinhead-y
The clean face with the red lip is perfect
The simple earrings are just the right touch, all that lace would fight with anything else in the way of a bracelet/necklace/ring that you might pair with it.
Can’t see the shoes because the hem skims the floor, so can’t comment on those.
I see nothing to deduct points for.

  • lrhoff

  • TheLaurenJean

Her makeup is perfection. She’s serving up some Audrey there. WERQ!

  • sweetlilvoice

The pic of her looking to the side in the second to last photo is just beautiful! Love her eyebrows.

  • Mary229

Oh my God…this is flawless from head to toe for me.  I love it.   Love the hair.  Love the lipcolor.  Love the lace.  WERQ.

  • She looks lovely, but there’s something…off or lacking in the waist area. The construction is bugging me.

  • That is like a glass of sparkling water after a Cheetos binge.

  • marilyn

She looks great.  Better than the runway model.

  • warnerave

  • Corsetmaker

Gorgeous. I’m not always a fan of Valentino, but this is beautiful!

  • margaret meyers

Isn’t she too young to play Anna?  I know she’s younger than her husband, but Vronsky is supposed to be a spoiled youth in comparison, and part of the sadness in the book is knowing that they are wrong together.

  • padma sallah

UGH. HER FACE. Why is it so flawless?

  • oohsparkley!

If she had some dangly earrings, it would werq for me. Heck, it’s a werq anyway.

  • MaryAtRealityTea

Oh that’s lovely. She looks so elegant and beautiful.

  • TieDye64

    Gorgeous WERQ.

  • amaranth16

Dramatic, gorgeous. Dress, eyes, hair, everything perfect.  Can’t form complete sentences.  WERQ.

  • librarygrrl64

I am not always a fan of her acting choices, but DAYUM this is a beautiful young woman who knows how to look elegant. Skanks of the World, please take note!

  • Love her, WERQ for me.

    I love her eyebrows.
