oh my little freckle princess…
Where did her lips go?
She needs brighter make-up to make that color work on her.
It’s a step in the right direction. A tiny, shiny, awkwardly-constructed step.
A tiny, shiny, awkwardly-constructed step that requires a better bra than she is wearing. Whatever she has on is combining with the top of the dress to do very strange things to her girls.
Exactly. It’s not that it’s a good dress, or particularly good on her, but it’s better than her average dress. I just wish it didn’t wash her out so much.
I agree that this dress is better than her usual get up, but I don’t think redheads or most blondes should wear white or black. They both look better on brunettes. And the lack of color on her face isn’t helping at all.
It’s a sharp dress that makes her look like a ghost.
I suppose we can celebrate that in her afterlife she isn’t wearing completely cracked out wares.
Fire your makeup girl, hunty.
In a color and with better shoes, this totally could have been a work. As it is, it’s surprisingly non-tragic for J.M.
and with a few inches off the hem.
Torn on this one. I suspect if the lights weren’t so glaring (and she had some lip color), this might look really lovely. The shoes, however, are awful.
The shoes look tacky and cheap (even though they probably cost more than my sofa).
I think if her hair were a richer shade of red, she would have been working it well. The dress is pretty, but the color in combination with her coloring and makeup ends up washing the entire effect out.
From the neck up, I’m on board. But that dress makes her look mighty blocky, which she certainly is not.
Would some lipstick have killed her?
Julianne, I don’t know if you know this yet, but there is this new thing called “makeup” that helps you not look so washed out on the Red Carpet. You may want to look into it.
I saw the top of the dress on my computer screen and I was so hoping it was an accent neckline, and the rest of the dress would be black…..but the scroll down was disappointing. She is not made for all that colorless-ness. Plus she has no lips, plus it isn’t fitted correctly and is making her look thick in the middle, plus I think maybe it’s too long? Anyway, this ensemble is not doing her any favors and she should return it to the nice folks at Calvin Klein posthaste.
Oh miss lady, you look pretty! And pale. Very, very pale.
That is a beautiful dress and she is beautiful, but she and the dress don’t go together…. too washed out…
Not the best color on her, but grading on a curve, I give it a muted IN.
What is happening on her chest? Is the bottom half of the skirt a different color or does the underskirt stop making it translucent? Either way, UGH!!
I think the slip only goes halfway down. Calvin Klein has a whole line of skirts/dresses like this recently, and they are all ridiculous.
SJP is ready to sue her for stealing her eye makeup.
perhaps the painting in her attic is wearing her lipstick?..the woman does not age….that bodice is doing her bust and midesection no favors however….
She needed more dramatic makeup. It is a beautiful dress, however, and definitely a step in the right direction.
Love the dress on her, but those shoes are Othello-level tragic.
she is one of my absolute faves, but her choices drive me crazy. the makeup is not good julianne
By leaving the side black stripes off, we can tell a bit more about the construction techniques used in the skirt and hem. That’s kind of interesting.
That’s all I’ve got that’s positive.
I’ll add that (what we can see of) the earrings–lovely, esp against her hair.
The dress is very, well . . . Calvin, but it washes her out and makes her look somewhat boxy.
I hate the shoes, really rally hate them.
It’s not an epic failure, but still not quite there. She really has no idea what looks good on her, what the hell she should wear.
She takes one step forward and 3 or 4 back. This is just wrong for her; even in another color, it does her shape no favors.
I like the dress, but not for her.
A satin evening dress needs stockings. I don’t care what anyone says, or if my perspective comes from a lifetime of cultural conditioning. Bare legs just don’t cut it. (Also it needs to be shortened a bit.)
I agree, absolutely. Bare summer legs with that kind of dress look unfinished, unpolished.
I like hosiery.
I hate hosiery. But sometimes they’re a necessary evil–bare legs with this kind of dress make you look like you don’t really belong wherever you are.
I would like to see the dress in a more vibrant color. I like the dress.
it is odd…she is a gorgeous woman, but this outfit does nothing but wash her out and the shape is somewhat matronly on her. She looks so much better in deep jewel tones.
Corpse in a shroud.
Exactly my first thought. She looks like a corpse.
Seems we’ve finally reached the point where the 1930s version of “futuristic fashion” has become a reality.
And frankly, I think I’d really rather have a flying car.
The underskirt on the dress is not working for me. It looks like a slip.
I have other complaints as well, but I’m trying to be nice because I think she is so beautiful.
NO. For a number of reasons.
Lumpy-looking. Doesn’t she have a mirror?
A deep lip, a purse with colour, and a different pair of shoes were required to make this at all palatable. I prefer the black tuxedo stripes on the runway version, too. But in general, I think just starting over would have been the best choice: Girl, That’s Not Your Dress.
Totally the wrong color for her, wrong makeup, too.
Color is not the enemy, Julianne!
This is definitely not her color, or her dress. I’m so sad for this gorgeous woman. When will she figure it out….?
The structure of the dress is fine; just wish it was in a colour besides ‘builders beige’. And yes, where are her LIPS??!! Even a dark tinted lip stain would’ve been better than the no-colour nude gloss she has on. But LURVE all her freckles – yay for freckles and pale skin! 🙂
She looks like a corpse.
I’m so torn. On the one hand, this dress satisfies her affection for more avant garde clothing while maintaining the more traditional silhouette that is most flattering for her. On the other, she looks completely washed out. I think that she could wear this dress in this color if she had stronger, better makeup OR she could go with more minimalist makeup and a jewel tone dress, but the poor makeup and less-than ideal dress color here are both working against her pretty hard. The shoes are a travesty under any circumstances.
What a horrible dress. The only interest was the side black stripe and she had it removed. Terrible dress for a redhead.
She definitely needs some BareMinerals to even out her skintone and some brighter lip color. Also, some leg makeup would not go amiss.
I hate dresses that look like they’re made out of fondant.
She looks great. Sometimes she gets it right.
If she had actually worn makeup, I think this would have totally worked.
All I see is oatmeal, and the heels of those hiddy shoes. She is a gorgeous woman, but this was not a suitable selection for her coloring.
I think it’s a really great dress, but it’s doing her no favors, somehow. Maybe a more matte material, & a color? I think the RC photography (flash or harsh lighting) worked against her.
And I know it’s intentional, but to my aged eyes it looks like she & the model both needed a longer slip.
Slip, schmip. That’s a lining, and it’s intentional on the part of the designer. But it’s not necessarily good design.
Not yo dress, Ms. J.
I did say I know it’s intentional. To state with more clarity, the intentional design looks to me like a slip that’s too short.
Looks like something Melissa would have done from Project Runway Season 10. I like it but something about the bust on Julianne is off.
Interesting dress, not for Julianne, but for someone.
Wow. I didn’t know they made orthopedic stripper shoes.
Girl, that is not your color.
Oh dear. As usual.
This dress does not look good on the model nor on Ms. Moore. However, it’s structural and strong and I can see why she selected it given her aesthetic. That said, if I were her stylist and she insisted on this dress, I would have told her to brighten her lip, change her shoes (bright red stilettos) and shorten the skirt.
Oh. There are some celebs that can wear white. Gwynyth, Kate Hudson, any black woman. Julianne should never wear white.
Why does she always wear a nude lip and too much eye liner?
I find it incredibly hard to believe but, evidenced by her style choices, has Julianne Moore no gay friends?
The dress is beautiful, but the color makes her look terminally ill.
Really bad lighting makes that a hideous color on her. But it’s hard to imagine even great lighting would make that a flattering color for her.
Someone, please lend her a lipstick.
Julianne, the time to go to a function as a Frank Gehry building was last week.
Shoes are just tragic. Why does she always choose these beartrap or overly fussy shoes? The dress is not bad, but for someone as pale as her it wold have looked better in a color. I wish she had gotten this in a navy blue. The look is also screaming for a bolder lip. Not a bad dress, but leaning toward Not her dress territory.
As beautiful as she is, she really needs some blush and lipstick!!!! Dress is beautiful, but without color in her face, it washes her out.
Why just line it to crotch length?
I can’t criticize her – she is just so herself.
i kinda love it, but would have liked to see perhaps a touch more pink or shine on her mouth, to let me know that it is there
What a horrible dress (looks hideous on the model too). And between he light complexion, the bright lights, and shiny neutral fabric, poor beautiful Julianne looks like a corpse.
I wish it were A COLOR, but it’s much better than that fucked up Lanvin shit she usually gets stuck with.
I’m sad Julianne Moore died but at least her ghost is still making appearances.
It’s the wrong color for her skin tone, but it’s an interesting look, and suits her aesthetic, whether one likes it or not. I sort of wish she’d kept the black trim around the sleeves and the sides of the skirt though.
Even though it’s white, it’s doing an interesting job highlighting her freckles, which I sort of like.
ETA: She needs a slightly bolder lipstick, though.
Did she go as a ghost for Halloween?
She looks a bit like the albino from Star Trek. And I love her so but this look needed MAKE UP!
Disaster’s in the air tonight!!!!
GAWD her makeup is giving her conjunctivitis! AWFUL
