Jessica Biel in NYC

Posted on November 12, 2012

Hi Jessica! Listen, thanks for providing us with some handy illustrations for the point we’re about to make.

Jessica Biel attends business meetings in New York City.

Namely: it really does matter how you pair items of clothing together. That’s a great – and really interesting – coat no matter what, but it looks a little bleh in the first couple of pics and then turns totally killer when you pair it with a great scarf, dress, and pair of shoes. Not that we don’t like your boots, dear. It’s just that they do nothing for the coat.

Mkay, carry on with your little meetings.

Coat’s lovely. So’s the gorgeous creature beside her in photo #1.

    • frannyprof

You read my mind! Who is that guy?

      • Sobaika

        Hot Toothy Handler?

        • DeborahJozayt

His teeth are prettier than Jessica’s. Talk about showing up her incisors!

    • Ceur

And he’s kind of huge, isn’t he? He’s making her look tiny, which she’s not. And that smile! Yum.

  • Sobaika

Her hair is ridiculous in the first outfit.

    • kimmeister

Yes – so very NOT business meeting hair!

      • http://twitter.com/janedonuts Jane Donuts

        Um, she’s an actress.

        • kimmeister

Um, the caption says “Jessica Biel attends business meetings in New York City.”

    • Mismarker

That hair is straight up John Belushi samurai.

  • mommyca

OMG! I love that coat!!! (I’m probably sure I cannot afford it, but anybody knows what designer is it?) I think it’s gorgeous!

  • crash1212

Huh. I was going to say I liked the first look much more because you could actually see the details of that killer coat. Still like it better. Also…boots = WANT and, if the guy with her in phone #1 could bring them to me, all the better.

    • wisdomy

I agree, I think the coat is too covered up by that particular scarf and is shown to better advantage closed, though of course all the other stuff she’s carrying is also detracting from it.

That said, there is absolutely no excuse for leaving the house with the hair in those first pics.

    • Kristin McNamara

I thought the same. I don’t love the fur (scarf, was it?) in the second outfit. I think the coat looks much prettier in the first set.
ETA: Plus, I LOATHE those shoes in the second set…. they remind me of those awful black clunkers that ALL of us children of the 90s wore to like, our middle school grade band concerts.

  • LuisaNL

wow, what a transformation, I can barely recognize the coat in the second pic. she looks fabulous! now, can I have her shoes, please? thanks!

  • http://phantomminuet.blogspot.com/ MinAgain

I actually like both variations.  That really is a great coat.

  • http://twitter.com/MajorBedhead MajorBedhead

The boots look weird around the ankles. Thick and shapeless.

The second look is much nicer, although the first look is probably what I’d be wearing, since I lean towards schlubby dressing.

  • frannyprof

I would love to know more about these “business meetings.”

  • Pants_are_a_must

Sorry, too distracted by the guy next to her. He looks kinda Timberlake-y, doesn’t he? Only hot.

  • dawnboo

I’m just glad she seems to be growing out those unflattering bangs.

    • demondoll

The side-sweep looks great on her-

  • Rebecca Jay

You’ve got it flipped.  The coat looks killer on Jessica.  You can see ALL the details and the coat is the standout piece, as it should be.

The regular-girl turns it bleh, junking it up with all that busy stuff.  And that’s a scarf you say, covering up the lovely shawl collar? Looks like a bunch of dust bunnies sewn together.

    • julnyes

Aren’t all the pictures of Jessica Biel?

      • Rebecca Jay

I guess they are!  The second one didn’t look Jessica Biel-ey to me on first pass (and still doesn’t).  I thought it was just some random woman-on-the-street, coincidentally wearing the same coat, used for comparison.

        The dressed-down version still wins.

        • julnyes

I agree – I like that the coat is the focus in the first image (though the boots look clunky and the hair is silly)

  • nannypoo

Jessica demonstrates for us how difficult it is to grow out your bangs.

  • kolokOlchik

The boots are fine.  It’s the hair that has vastly improved this look

  • MilaXX

wow she looks great in those second set of pics. I love that sweater coat and really need those wedges in my life.

  • Joyce VG

Love the sweater coat. Love it.

  • http://twitter.com/tangodiva Tanya Wade

That coat is giving me life – I love a good cable detail. Now I am off to contemplate recreating it for myself in knit form.
(I think the Pebbles topknot is what is ruining the top set of pics). Mmmmm. Grey coat.

    • Jennifer Coleman

Ugh! It’s a bang ponytail. Or in her case, a boom ponytail. Just awful. I thought for a minute the 2nd set were model pics of the coat – they looked so improved.

  • Trisha26

    I want the bag.

  • http://twitter.com/lenabena_ Elena

Can’t get past her hair in the first set.

    • schadenfreudelicious

she looks like she just came from getting a trim and the stylist forgot to take out one of those knots they make when they section off your hair…..

  • rainwood1

I like the boots much better than the shoes which look too clunky.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/J2VE4NE2FY2BP4QD2XOYKJGLPI Laura

    LOVE that coat.

  • http://twitter.com/lolacestmoi Veronika Kaufmann

I disagree completely. The coat looks great au casual and nice with the dress as well.

  • funkycamper

From the neck down, the first look is far superior, imho.  And that surprises me because I usually hate leggings as pants.  I would cut a bitch for those boots.  The furry scarf really detracts from the lovely collar on the sweater-coat and makes the look too fussy for my taste.  Also hate the ropey-necklace and the ugly heels.

  • Lisa Kramp

The first look would be find if her hair didn’t look so unwashed. I would cut bitches for the coat and that fur scarf.

  • http://4ofwands.wordpress.com/ Aj/Melia

    love the coat!

  • Lilithcat

Love the coat, especially with the matching fur piece.  Fabulous!

  • MGMcD

I will take coat and bespectacled man from first look, and furry scarf and shoes from second. Have them express mailed to my apartment and put it on my tab. Thanks very much.

  • oohsparkley!

I want that coat! Both looks are great except for the hair in pic #1.

    • PinkLemon

       what is WITH that??

  • Mary Saucier

God, I love that coat. From color to details, it is everything I crave in outerwear.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_F73LIJ3SJGI5AJQMXMWXCKILHI Pamela

Did a mysterious cold spell roll into the Northeast b/c she’s dressed like it’s January.

  • jmorino08

    MUST. HAVE. THAT. COAT.

  • decormaven

Shows what the power of makeup, hair styling, and attention to accessories can do. Lurve that coat!

  • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

I prefer the coat without that hiddy fur thingy around her neck. And yes, the guy in photo #1 is HOT.

  • LesYeuxHiboux

She went to business meetings with her hair like that?! No wonder her career is stagnating. The coat is fabulous, though.

  • PeaceBang

    Those black shoes! Fab!

  • quiltrx

    That’s a really cool coat.

  • J MN

I think the pic’s with the dress and shoes are great but the first pic’s look more like running errands.  I don’t know ‘what’ is going on with the top knot in the first ones.  It’s well known Justin hated her bangs – was it in the pre-nup she must grow them out?

  • Cathy S

I want that coat. Now, please.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_F73LIJ3SJGI5AJQMXMWXCKILHI Pamela

Who’s the hottie w/ the great smile walking with her in the first pic?  Yum!

  • librarygrrl64

Want that coat with that scarf!!!
