Jennifer Lawrence for ELLE Magazine

Posted on November 07, 2012

J Law is giving serious HAIR on the cover of Elle:

Jennifer Lawrence covers the December 2012 issue of ELLE magazine in a Balenciaga dress.

Not that she’s not giving FACE as well, but let’s … um… face it: the hair’s the first thing you noticed, no? Then, the lips, then the dress.

Balenciaga Resort 2013 Collection/Model: Suvi Koponen

We’ve been hearing a lot of pushback in the comments section lately about wearing white at this time of year, but we love this trend. Warm, autumnal tones and dark, serious winter tones can get awfully dull after awhile. In fact, we think white works even better during this time of year than during the spring and summer months because it stands out so much. A bolt of simple, white brightness during a time of short days and cold nights.

I think she looks awesome. I’m not quite sure what to think of the hair, I don’t hate it. I think she looks much much better than the model though. And I love white at any time of year.

  • PeaceBang

She is stunning. I could do with less of the fried bangs in her face and the multi-color “Cats” hair, but I still love her. I like white, and I like the idea of the white + red against the bright yellow cover but that cut-out neck isn’t working for me in general, and particularly not when it’s being covered by her Rum Rum Tiger hair.

    • christinewithanx

Ahahaha, CATS hair. I was thinking Private Dancer Tina Turner, too.

      • DeborahJozayt

        Or a Heart Music video.

    • http://www.djplaw.com/ Tadiana

I was thinking 80′s big hair band and their groupies.

  • j_anson

Besides, really, how can white not on some level look wintery?

It’s a bit much with the bangs, but the dress looks much better on her than the model.  I don’t mind white at this time of year. It’s about time that taboo goes away.

I’m from California, and we don’t subscribe much to the colors-season correlation thing. It just seems silly.

    • LesYeuxHiboux

I was wondering why I never had any issue wearing white “out of season”. Raised in California.

    • gabbilevy

Ditto. Especially with excellent examples like Ms. Lawrence to prove it so wrong.

It’s not a “rule” in Australia or England either, so it doesn’t bother me. I’d love to be able to wear whites and creams but they don’t flatter me & I am a mucky pup who can’t keep it clean anyway.

It seems a shame to hide her lovely eyes, but I really like how she is wearing this dress.

You mean filling it out like it was meant to be instead of just having it hang on her like the slouchy model?

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000393765005 Garcia Loca

Great look for her, and a gorgeous dress.

  • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

The SuperBardotHair is kinda working for her, no? And I love the clean simple lines of the Balenciaga dress. Cristobal would be pleased.

And a healthy chunk of us live in places where there IS no winter to speak of, so the no white after Labor Day thing is even more absurd.

    • tereliz

I was wearing seersucker yesterday! As long as it’s over 60 degrees in NOLA, I will wear my seersucker trousers. They’re just so comfy!

  • ChiliP

I love my JLaw, but she never really gives face that well. I mean, how hard could it be when you have a face like hers? You have to learn to WORK it, Jen!

  • MilaXX

If properly deployed I have no problem with white in the winter. The problem is J Law is another who needs to loose the “facts of life” bangs.

  • JCWL

Totally looks like 80′s Carly Simon

  • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Her makeup is gorgeous, but that hair?!  Oy.  Was it styled with an egg beater?

    • l_c_ann

First they dried her hair in a pass through a car wash, then they added finishing touches with an egg beater.

  • Shoelover1512

    I love winter white

    • Winter_White

      I love Shoelover 1512

      (Couldn’t resist.)

        Haha thanks!

      • Shoelover1512

ha ha! It’s ok, I am loveable ;)

        • Winter_White

Lovable, no doubt.  And now when I need someone to go shoe-shopping with me, I’ll know just who to call!

  • f_yeah_marie

She looks great in the rest of the editorial, and I much prefer the alternate cover to this one.

    • tereliz

The “wet” cover? Yeah, she’s giving slightly better face in the subscriber’s copy.

  • http://twitter.com/herong Heron

    Gawd this dress is stunning.

  • golden_valley

The hair looks like a failed attempt at the Farah Fawcett ’70′s style with poorly conditioned hair.  It is better than that look TLo calls “cocker spaniel ears.”

  • Jecca2244

Anna needs to put her on the cover of Vogue STAT.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/XAFAJ53QF3DLEFQB3WTLMRM75E MarinaB

She looks like Jon Bon Jovi.

  • Judy_J

My mom used to call that “rag mop hair”.

  • Allyson Wells

She looks WAY better than the model in that dress. I don’t love her bangs, though. They look a little… scraggly.

  • decormaven

I’d like to have seen the hair pulled back so the cutout at the bodice could be better viewed. When I first saw the bangs and red lips, I flashed on Taylor Swift and thought “Damn, she’s on another cover!”

  • filmcricket

I like her, but I cannot with that hair. She looks like she belongs in a Whitesnake video.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1208138556 Sara Munoz Munoz

      As a member of the band, or…. ? :)

      • tereliz

        As Tawny Kitaen.

    • DeborahJozayt

If she rolls around too much on top of the car, her hair will get stuck in the hood ornament.

  • out for a walk

With that makeup she looks so much like Maggie Q’s Nikita wearing a wig.

  • kimmeister

The bangs look particularly terrible.  The dress is great but the realness has all been photoshopped away.  It seriously looks as real as a paper cutout pasted on the front page.  The dress looks downright bizarre on the model (who looks like she has mysterious floating boobs).

  • LesYeuxHiboux

I noticed her eyes first, then her enviable mane. That dress is great for her: edge and interest near the face, simplicity to flatter the curves everywhere else. She should take notes.

  • HomeOfficeGirl

    Love me some serious HAIR!

  • littlemac8

Yes TLo:  hair, lips, hair, lips, dress!  Hope you guys are ok in this new round of ugly weather!

  • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

I don’t have a problem with white during the winter, as long as the fabric and style is more wintery. But I’m not sure I’m a fan of this dress. And the hair looks terrible.

  • Stefanos Mantyla

Yes, Suvi (the model). Thank you for some much needed Finnish representation around here!

Yes, T Lo. I am happy. Thank you!

  • Mexxoo

The name “Winter White” exists for a reason!

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/BJTY6KY7LOR7MDOD6QCZUC3VVI Donna Tabor

Absolutely. The prohibition against wearing white pertains only to shoes.

  • formerlyAnon

This is hair best left to those blessed with on site professionals, but I like. What can I say? I was young in the ’70s & it’s a spiritual cousin to Farrah Faucett hair.

It’s a lovely cover and a nice dress, she wears it better than the model.

  • Janet B

    Glamorous Jennifer.

The dress fits Jennifer much better than the bra-top fit Kristen.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_OD35QQZNBPZJXWTCBY7N4EE7VY Sarah

That’s a formal dress for Power Girl if I ever saw one!

  • Trisha26

With such an interesting cut-out detail the overlapping hair seems like a poor decision. And I can’t get over the copy “…to Hunger Games Bombshell” – uh – the Hunger Games is all about the overthrow of the privileged ruling, sadistic class & government (the look she’s modeling here).

  • B_C_J

Beautiful dress, beautiful fit (better than the model), beautiful lips but all I really see is HAIR and too much of it!

  • http://twitter.com/kbshee kbshee

She looks like the blonde sister from Heart. Nancy Wilson?

  • http://twitter.com/cristinamarieme Cristina Marie

She looks great, but I don’t know why they keep giving her more of these kind of shoots. She’s got a fun personality, and always looks better in a more fun shoot. She never looks like herself when she’s going for FACE.

  • quiltrx

Being a Southern girl, I’m very conflicted.  Big hair, yes (I even like the Stevie Nicks highlights)…pure white after Labor Day, I just can’t.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=664429801 Kate Clausen

As a brunette, I’m obviously terribly biased, but I much prefer her with darker hair.  I think it suits her coloring more.  And I’ve never really liked the bangs on her.  The dress is fantastic!

  • warontara

Oh the bangs……but otherwise she loks stunning. And white looks great on me, so I’ve never confined it to one particular time of year.
