IN or OUT: Cate Blanchett in Antonio Berardi

Posted on November 28, 2012

We bet that many of you, like us, were all “Cate ‘Galadriel’ Blanchett at The Hobbit premiere? Sign me up! Let’s see it, girl!” Or something to that effect. And if you are even more like us, you’re probably gonna give out a disappointed “Oh” at the reality:

Cate Blanchett attends the world premiere of ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ World Premiere in Wellington, New Zealand in an Antonio Berardi dress paired with Roger Vivier sandals.

Antonio Berardi Resort 2013 Collection/Model: Pauline van der Cruysse

Roger Vivier T-Bar Prismick Sandal

It’s … well, it’s something all right. Eye-catching, we suppose. But kind of awkward, no? That big band of white just looks like her undershirt is hanging out.  And while we think her hair is kind of cute here, it’s just a bit too casual for such a big-deal premiere. Come on, honey. Where’s some of that “All shall love me and DESPAIR” fierceness we were expecting?

Are we being unfair here? Is it wrong that we think she should have gone for the majuh glam for this event?

Vote Now!

IN! Into this post you poured all your cruelty, your malice and your will to dominate all life. You bitches.

OUT!  I know what it is you saw, for it is also in my mind.

The Precious Unborn Fawns were in agreement that Berenice Bejo just didn’t go as mod as she needed to, voting her OUT.

“I have passed the test. I will diminish, and go into the West, and remain…a soccer mom, with droopy boobs.”

      • http://www.tomandlorenzo.com/ Tom and Lorenzo

        HA! Excellent.

      • hmariec19

        Dammit that was good.

        • Kristin McNamara

I had NO idea that so many of the BKs (AND TLo, for that matter!) were such LOTR nerds!!!!!!!! FUCKING. LOVE. IT.

      • PeggyOC

Ok, clearly I don’t have the funny today, because MsOlympia took it.

      • Catiline

Undignified nose-snort of laughter at work.  Well done.

      • bitchybitchybitchy

All I can do is bow.down. to. you.Damn, but that is brilliant!

      • TippiH

As a soccer mom with droopy boobs, I feel qualified to comment. I’ve never seen a soccer mom show up looking quite like this on the sidelines. If a bitch did come to the field looking like Cate: well-rested, wrinkle-free,stunningly confident, and chic as hell, the rest of us droopy-boobed soccer moms would collectively lift her to our shoulders and give her a fucking trophy. Really, this is what we need –  more soccer moms who look like this!!

    • elemspbee

IN. this is super interesting, edgy, striking.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Inês-Martins/100000345906318 Inês Martins

I agree, it is a very interesting and eye-catching dress.

      • 3boysful

I think I would like it better perhaps if the white inset were silver or bronze.  This colorway reminds me of those soft little block candies with coconut?

        • RocknRollmom

Ohhh!  That is perfect.  Haven’t thought of those in years.  I hated those candies.  But I love this dress!

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=535548244 Kim Baker Vidas Davey-Irvin

i kinda love it, actually.  good for the weather there this time of year, too.

    • DeborahJozayt

Selena and Cate should have swapped outfits.

      • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Exactly; but then Selena should have worn a different outfit, because I really hate this.

        • Kristin McNamara

Ha! “Exactly; but then Selena should have worn a different outfit.” hahaha awesome.

    • phrenk

Not glam, but cute.  I love her hair.  IN.

      • http://twitter.com/janedonuts Jane Donuts

Yeah. Glam at her age is so de rigeur. I like that she tried something here. She is freaking gorgeous still too, which helps.

    • http://twitter.com/jessicapippin Jessica Pippin

It’s strange, but I don’t hate it. Also the amount of LOTR quotes in this post is making my day. IN.

    • Imasewsure

Not OH but EW… awful OUT yuck

    • http://twitter.com/MajorBedhead MajorBedhead

Oh, dear, no. That’s a Frankendress if ever I saw one. It doesn’t look fitted properly, the shoulder pleating looks as though it’s all come unstitched and the gauzy top with the bandage underdoohickey combined with the jersey (or whatever material that is) split-personality skirt is just too, too much.

Her face looks pretty, but definitely not world premier worthy.

      Out.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3JSTXMWWVZN2QNP2UEKJMTWD7U Isabel

Out – white part looks like abdominal bands worn by people with back problems.

        • barbarienne

Yes! I was trying to think what that reminded me of. You nailed it.

        • http://twitter.com/zbird17 Sheri Z

My first thought was maternity panel, but yours works too.  Whatever it is, it does not represent a well thought out decision.

      • lovelyivy

Good call. It’s like someone tried to make a yoga outfit into a formal gown… really odd. And her hair is feeling super 90’s a la Clueless.

    • Kate4queen

In, I have no idea why but it works on her.

    • Pants_are_a_must

Well, it should be mentioned that it’s probably summer in NZ right now, and a day premiere at that. It is too casual, though. OUT. :(

    • another_laura

Out, for the hilarious reasons T Lo stated.  This is so droopy and bleh for the wearer of Nenya!

    • theblondette

What on earth is this? SO awkward. Out.

    • http://twitter.com/commish24 commish24

It was a very mixed premiere–some nice suits, some nice dresses, but some very casual wear too. Cate had three small children with her–I thought it was a good compromise.

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

A small case out.  Hair, make up and accessories are all just dandy. Its all on that dress. Just not the right thing, and even with her epic clothes wearing skills, it doesn’t get me there.

      • kschwarting

I agree.  I’m not sure that’s anyone’s dress, but her hair and makeup just look so pretty and natural that I’m still envious.

    • ralish

Terrible. What an ugly shirt. That white “undershirt” at the bottom just doesn’t make any sense– especially when paired with a black skirt. It’s also giving her a crinkly stomach pouch, which she almost certainly doesn’t have. I do love the shoes and bracelet, though not with this outfit.

    • Eva_baby

Out.  I kinda reared back a bit when i scrolled down to the first picture.  That white thing in the her middle looks like an external prosthetic stomach or something.  Weird.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

OUT. That white panel is a mess, and the top would be better off as an actual shirt paired with skinny jeans or cigarette pants. Her hair is a little juvenile for this sexy look.

    • Brenda Dayne

Cute hair. Weird, pleasantly coloured dress(es). Also, consider the venue. It’s summer there, so a hot colour works, and besides, you don’t bring it in Wellington like you bring it in Cannes. IN.

      • http://profiles.google.com/anplica Anplica Fiore

Agreed.  It’s a small case in for me, but considering the venue it works.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/DNWEFT2SVBX5T3NPMROQCT4U2U jennyv

In. It’s weird but she’s workin’ it.

    • http://www.katidom.com/ Kati B

In. Miss Cate does very little wrong, IMO. Love her hair and desperately wish I could get mine to look like that.

    • StellaZafella

I love the shoes and everything from the neck up…

But then, I personally doubt even a Tylda could make this dress look like anything but an oops.

    • Judy_S

It’s a pretty awful dress, for the reasons you mentioned (I saw it online this morning and, yes, had the thought “her undershirt is hanging out”).  On the other hand, this was not a high-glam RC. Peter Jackson did not wear a tie. Awkward as the dress is, I think it was a good choice because (a) the dress, however ugly, is clearly the work of a Designer and is long enough to imply glamor, so it is a compliment to the occasion, and she does look good, and (b) she is not upstaging anybody, and she would have done so if she had worn anything much nicer. She is refusing to look like an Oscar-winning celebrity beside others on the RC who actually are soccer moms. For that I admire her.
And also because, in an awful dress with a barrette in her hair, she still looks really good.

      • Jennifer L.

True, although I think Berardi has other dresses that wouldn’t of upstaged other people but still would of had more impact, in a good way. Like this one – http://www.matchesfashion.com/product/131226?qxjkl=tsid:38929|cat:J84DHJLQkR4

    • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

Out. Oh Cate I am so sorry.

    • Loola234

It’s weird because the 1st pic looks like she had it altered so her girls don’t look droopy, but the “action” shot of her walking has sad droopy boobs.  I still like it – very interesting.  Plus her hair is super cute for day…

      IN

    • neofashionista

I so want it to be in but it is OUT for me because it is just too silly looking, it looks like a designer flag foot ball jersey or something it is a shame though becuase she is really beautiful especially that last picture her hair looks great

    • http://twitter.com/k8twolf Katie Wolf

IN. It’s simultaneously cute and interesting (like me! Lol) & I think it’s totally event-appropriate. Also, I lurve the shoes and how that skirt moves! Criticisms: loose the barrette; I am on the fence with the bracelet.

    • http://twitter.com/lenabena_ Elena

She is serving up some Briony Tallis realness with that hair. Which is my way of saying, OUT.

    • FayeKat

It’s eye catching and unusual and she is wearing it well, although i prefer the shirt buttoned. Yes, it looks a little casual for such a big premier, but for all we know New Zealand is a more casual and laid back country? Anyway, i like it, IN

    • EEKstl

If she’d done a more “glam” hairstyle it would have anted up the whole look, so I’ll give her an IN, but coulda been even more successful with a decent ‘do.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_VZLU6YVO4BRTELTTH3GRAAMWZQ Dot

It just looks…droopy. Or something. Something about it reminds me of neopolitan ice cream melting and sliding into a pool on the ground.

    • mjude

it hurts me to say OUT.

    • http://twitter.com/stellaphone Stella Zawistowski

I think I would like it better if the opaque pink part didn’t have cutouts in it — a little too much going on. And yet, there’s something I find strangely compelling about the color-blocking, so I’m going with IN.

    • LauraWL

Its weird and I like it. Also, considering it was a day premiere in Wellington I would say it is eye catching but not full-on glam, which, in this case, is appropriate. In.

    • StrandedFashionista

OUT. I expected a high level of Elven fierceness, and was clearly disappointed.

    • Ceur

I can’t believe she gets one single in for this hideous piece. This is the first and probably the last time I’ve thought that Cate would be better of borrowing something from MY closet.

    • e jerry powell

Too much strong pink that near to her face.

      Is she sunburned?
Is she not wearing makeup to cover rosacea?

      Just not good.

That said, I can’t wait to see her evil stepmother. You know the bitch gon’ bring it.

    • TRSTL

I like the dress actually, but feel it might have been a skoosh better fitted in the midsection/bodice. And I like the hair. But I don”t like the hair with the dress.

    • http://twitter.com/stares_at_goats Lani George

Maybe if she wore the ears… but no, out.

    • call_me_schmeg

what the wha…? oh, no no no, cate, this will not do. OUT.

    • 2ndhandchic

OUT. She looks like she is wearing a back brace.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=726269545 Rachel Borthwick

Cautious in – it’s interesting, at least, and the sheer seems very weather-friendly. I steered clear of town yesterday for the premiere, but it was sunny, hot, and the wind was up and down all day, so anything too glam might have been a bit complicated (though, heck, I’m sure if anyone could pull it off…) and might have looked a bit OTT on Courtenay Place on a summer afternoon, even given the event. But then that’s the question, right? At these events, is someone dressing for the location, or the photographs that go out? I hope they all remembered their sunblock ;).

    • http://melaniesuzanne.blogspot.com/ Melanie Suzanne

If Cate couldn’t pull this off, nobody could. Not even La Swinton. OUT.

    • Bailey Debruynkops

if the white was a different color than yes but its not so no.

    • Kristy Evans

OUT. Her body looks slamming, and those shoes are crazy cute, but that dress is way too wackadoo.

    • AtticWife

Out. I feel like if she’d worn any of the three dresses this dress appears to be made out of, we would have been fine.

    • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

Oh I simply hate it when I get left out of the nerd talk (pout).
IN. The dress is strange – but Cate likes that type of thing – and she’s rocking it. The hair is working for me too although I do not want any mere mortals to read this and think that I support this type of ‘do’ for them. Much like The Tilda’s make-up less face, it is simply not a look for the genetically un-gifted 99% to attempt.

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

      OUT.  Deeply odd.

    • Jangle57

maybe if the swath of white was smaller but every time I look at it, I think: oh, she’s got a bad back and is wearing a belt.  No, OUT

    • Merridith Kristoffersen

Love it.  She makes it look fresh and edgy.

    • Reneesance

It makes me sad but I have to give her an OUT the shapes are okay but that color pallette does not agree with my eyes

    • http://twitter.com/Nancer Nancer

That dress is a new type of franken-dress. I think designers are desperate to come up with something new and are sacrificing a pleasing aesthetic as a result. Seriously, you are correct when you say it looks like a t-shirt hanging out over her skirt. Replace that skirt with some daisy dukes and that’s about where this look fits.

    • Lizzyisi

In. A mix of glamorous and avant garde. Love the hair–with that cut, styling looks costumey or forced, so the simple bangle is a great choice. The dress moves well and the shoes are awesome.

    • homofascist

IN.  It is striking from the front, on the side not so much.  Plus it is the daytime, and almost summer there.  Plus it is Cate, I just can’t say out.

    • miagain

You are not being unfair… this is a frankendress with too many separate parts!
I adore her sense of style, but this one isn’t doing it for me!

    • alyce1213

IN. I love it.  It’s daring and different and beautiful.  It’s fashion.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_LI35AZLWSZEYRDZ4PUCBHUCZUI Jonathan

It kind of looks like a tshirt and a blouse, like the top part of the dress would pair better with jeans, I think it may be a riff on that look to be a bit unexpected but i think it would be better if you removed the white panel, it looks especially awkward in the side profile. In i guess because its at least interesting and she looks pretty

    • kelsita421

It’s cute. But nobody wants “cute” from a woman who could do “beautiful and terrible as the dawn, treacherous as the sea.” OUT.

    • Carly Warnock

out. second frankendress i’ve seen this week.

    • SewingSiren

I admit it. I am disappointed with this turn out. And I know what it is you saw too.But she still looks pretty fierce , how can that be?  I’d like to know.

    • Kathy_Marlow

I was so excited until I saw the full picture.  Had the dress been in that fabulous pink all the way through it would have been oodles better.  A little boring/barbie? maybe, but it’s Cate…she could have pulled it off with one Manolo behind her back. the hair is cute, but doesn’t match up with the dress.

    • Janet B

      Big miss in the styling.
Not a very attractive dress, why wear it at all?

      out

    • tylka5

Out – Gandalf would not  approve.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Nadine-Armiger/671418572 Nadine Armiger

IN. The red carpet was about 500 metres long, it took everyone a good couple of hours to walk it, there were thousands of fans getting pictures and autographs, and anything overly glamourous would have been completely impractical. Plus she’s in NEW ZEALAND, where our laid-back attitude is a point of cultural pride. Perfectly appropriate.

    • jmorino08

Is there a different set of rules for daytime vs night time premieres? I’m going with OUT on the outfit as is, but if that white situtation wasn’t happening I think it would have been kind of funky and fun for a daytime event.

    • stagmania

OUT. Maybe could have been interesting for a more casual event.

    • http://twitter.com/jennsaysmeow Fifi LaRoux

I like it. It’s fun and different. IN.

    • decormaven

Out. That white midriff section looks like a billboard for a WWF championship belt.

    • Sara__B

My disappointment is clouding my judgment. Perhaps if she had styled it differently? Perhaps it’s okay the way it is? Okay? That’s not a word that should come to mind when Cate Blanchett is on a red carpet. MsOlympia nailed it in the very first post. OUT!

    • kimmeister

Out.  Besides the weird dress, the hair’s just too juvenile.

    • http://theworldasmeditation.wordpress.com/ Katie

The panel looks like it’s serving some sort of lower lumbar support function. Like she came to the premier from her side job at Home Depot. Just no.

In. It’s a ridiculous dress, but she looks really pretty.

    • Trisha26

Out. All kinds of weird. (Odd too that in the last 3 shots the bodice looks fuchsia – as does the carpet.)

    • Judy_J

I want to like it, but I just can’t.  That white panel looks like a bartender’s apron.  Out.

    • http://profiles.google.com/misslauraschultz Laura Schultz

Except for the length, I like it. IN.  I do have to admit that from the side, it flattens her in an unflattering way, but still. I like it.

    • PeggyOC

I hate to vote her out, but this is a terrible, terrible dress.  Dull, awkward and inelegant.  I guess this proves that Cate can’t wear everything.  Just almost everything.

I want to like it just for being different, unexpected, etc., because I’m so tired of seeing the same dresses all the time on the RC, but…it just doesn’t work for me.

    • snarkykitten

Is she some kind of weird super hero? instead of wearing her underwear on the outside, she’s wearing her shapewear on the outside?

    • TonyGo

She should be the spokesmodel for Good and Plenty.

    • ankali

I’m eh on the dress, but the ultra-nerdy In-or-Out qualifiers are a total IN for me.

    • http://profiles.google.com/urbangypsyt Tess D

Maybe her back hurts? That white band sure looks like a surgical support garment to me.

    • BeaDee

Through the eyes of someone suffering through maternity clothes she looks like she accidentally tucked her blouse into her Bella Band. Not good.

    • PaperPusher2

I have to admit, while watching the live stream of the premiere last night, when I saw her in the background and not knowing it was her, thought: there’s a skanky teenager in the Hobbit?! I was a bit embarrassed when it was revealed to be my queen Cate.  I have to give this an Out.

    • Joyce VG

Errrr…OUT.  Her tummy looks incredibly flat in this but egads it’s odd.

    • RocknRollmom

Starting with the premise that Ms. Blanchett can do no wrong in my book, I have to say I like this on her.  It is youthful and different and she looks happy.  I personally like the dress even though the individual parts in my mind should not work and I know with all certitude that I personally would look hideous in it (ok so most high fashion would look hideous on me since I am not 5’11, 103 pounds and built like a stick).  Ms. Blanchett pulls this off well.  I don’t even mind the bobby pin.  Ok I have no objectivity when it comes to this woman.

I didn’t expect to love it, but I do. She looks so fresh and happy and fun but sleek. It works really well for me.

    • formerlyAnon

On the one hand, how can I call it out, because she’s making it look just like that dress is meant to look? And in a shorter length, it might be a right smart frock.

But, it’s not. OUT. It’s odd looking. If she weren’t so cute and built so well for wearing clothes it’d be horrid. As it is, odd and disappointing.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_F73LIJ3SJGI5AJQMXMWXCKILHI Pamela

Looks like she snipped the sleeves off a gauzy shirt, tied a white tee around her waist to hold up her maxi-skirt and set off for a camping trip.  Much too casual for Galadriel!  Why didn’t she rock her royalhighnessprincessy shit?!!  I mean, THIS is the place, for Gandalf’s sake!!

    • misskelley

in. at first glance, i thought there was some sort of three-piece, white-shirt-tailed action going on here, but that just made me look closer. it really is an interesting dress, polarizing as it may be.

the hair, on the other hand, is far too twee. a BARRETTE in a little bob, galadriel? you are far too fierce for that shit.

    • oohsparkley!

In. It’s interesting and looks better on her than the model. The models boobs look super low. It might not be Cate at her most fab, but it works.

    • lalahartma

      No.  It makes no sense!

    • Aly Light

out. And loving your LOTR references…

    • beebee10

IN IN IN IN!!! She looks amazing

    • DCSheehan

In. Wellingtonian here and yesterday was unseasonably glorious. Good choice for the weather and I think she looks amazing.

      • Lilak

Ah….finally!  Someone I’m in complete agreement with.  Let’s capitalize that IN, shall we?  ;-)

    • unbornfawn

I wonder what lost to this outfit. Awful. OUT.

    • teensmom99

Not a LOTR fans, so I will have to suffice with OUT!

    • lizajane1776

Out. That white band ruins the dress. Looks to me like a belly band to hide the skin of a pregnant woman.
      Like the hair, simple.

    • barbarienne

She looks like she’s wearing a girdle on the outside. And yet… oh, I’m on the fence. I’m going to give her a lukewarm IN, because while I don’t like the dress, she looks happy and confident, and makes any dress look better.

    • http://www.facebook.com/tom.r.markiewicz Tom Markiewicz

even if she had of done up the buttons of the top, and i don’t know, slicked back her hair, it could have been fiercer; as it is, she looks like a teenager from the early nineties going to a mixer.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

OUT!  I know what it is you saw, for it is also in my mind.
Yes, it’s eye-catching, but not in a good way. That big slab of white is just killing the look. The barrette in the hair is a tad twee, and I just expect more from Galadriel, you know.

    • Zippypie

A rare OUT for Cate.  YUCK.  I can’t even begin to decipher what the hell she has on her body.  And paired with the cutesy little hair with a clip I would put in my 5 year-old niece’s hair….?

    • LittleKarnak

      Ugh…OUT!!!

    • DylanCurtis

      Oh god…out.

    • ThatPeterG

It’s a weird Frankendress, but it’s Cate fucking Blanchett. She can wear anything and make it look stylish. IN.

    • demidaemon

This is a hideous dress. And the upstairs styling looks a bit, shall we say, PTA-appropriate. That is, not red-carpet worthy. OUT.

    • http://cheekypinky.wordpress.com/ Rebecca

      In my mind.

      Totally.

    • http://surelysonsy.blogspot.com/ Jessica | Surely Sonsy

i wonder: maybe they’re all playing cazh until the big NYC or Hollywood premieres? maybe?

    • Candigirl1968

      Blech.  Out.

    • librarygrrl64

Oof, a big mis-step for her, even though I like the actual shoes she’s mis-stepping in. OUT.

    • quiltrx

OUT.  I like the pink bodice part (except for the low-boob illusion), but it goes all weird beyond that.  And you are the baddest bitch in the forest–look like it!

    • http://twitter.com/LianaBrooks Liana Brooks

      She’s adorable. IN

    • curiouserandcuriousest

I think the white band is fitted enough that it doesn’t look like an undershirt hanging out, but as a constructed part of the dress. I just think we expect a hell of a lot because its Cate. She well and truly gets an IN from me. This is cute.

    • briecee

I give this a begrudging IN.  It’s fine.  It’s more casual than I would have hoped for from the the Lady of Lothlórien.  But it’s also not a granny square dress.

    • Northern_Light_27

I don’t understand that dress, it looks like some bizarre kind of sportswear… thing… with a sundress top and a random black skirt with some kind of sports padding or giant ace bandage or something. It’s a “what the hell am I looking at”, and not in a good way. Out.

    • plinkiedoodle

I love you, Cate…but this is an OUT>

    • AViewer44

      Out. It’s DREADFUL.

    • Call me Bee

So help me God, I kinda like it, weird as it is.  IN.

    • http://twitter.com/brianablanch Briana N. Blanchard

You guys… She looks fabulous! It’s striking, graphic, and she’s making it work. IN. Don’t question the master.

    • pulpytomato

The dress looks interesting on the model, but loses something on Cate. The fit isn’t right.

    • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

Look up the definition of “awkward” in the dictionary, and these photos of Cate appear next to the words “lacking grace or ease in movement; not well planned or designed for easy or effective use; syn. clumsy, inept, ungainly”.

      That’s an OUT.

    • Rachel Council

Out. Just for the Briony from Atonement hair.

    • http://www.facebook.com/renate.yerkes Renate Yerkes

What?! She looks great! there’s something approachable and real about not being perfect all the way. Maybe she put her own barrette in her hair. Cuteness-wise, she’s a 10!

    • http://www.facebook.com/mat.lima.3 Mat Lima

Ha I was there. It does seem a bit underplayed but an argument can be made she dressed like that cause Wellington is not really the setting for full on diva extravaganza realness. Only one or two of the people on the red carpet went full glam, everybody else seemed to go with the more chill vibe of the city. So IN.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Bob-Sponge/100000465550991 Bob Sponge

That hair belongs to some schoolgirl’s younger sister.

    • TSkot

It looks unfinished – like some fabulous belt and tulle overskirt fell off exposing the white underpinnings:  OUT

    • http://twitter.com/mhleta Martha Hicks Leta

Out. “Awkward” is the perfect word.

    • BeeBeauNYC

I hate doing this to Cate, but it’s an OUT. I almost like it, since it’s a summery dress and thus appropriate in the lower half of the world,  but it is just a little awkward and the hair is a little twee.

    • Louise Bryan

I give her an in for the dress and an out for the hair.  The dress is bigger, so that comes down as an IN.

    • lesmaha

Odd mix of too simple hair with a dress that needed more to pull it off. I don’t mind the dress so much on the model, but it’s not working for CB.  OUT.

    • Gorengirl

      Love it and her! IN!!!

    • Cathy S

I would like it if the white piece was gone. But it’s OUT for me because my eye keeps getting drawn to that part of the dress.

    • http://twitter.com/DarthJaeda Jaeda Laurez

The IDEA of the dress is interesting- the execution is awful though. It’s sheer and loose and cutout and bandeau all at the same time and…no. big ol mess.  I’d love the hair if I loved the dress.

    • http://www.lippsisters.com/ Deborah Lipp

Out. That white thing is clearly a back-support girdle. Clearly.

    • f_yeah_marie

Out because of her outfit, but I like the hair.

    • Verascity

      I actually like it. IN.

    • marilyn

      Out.  You are right.

    • altalinda

      Out.

    • marigi

IN! I love it: original, eye-catching, not at all boring. She looks amazing.

    • http://twitter.com/MarfMom Maya

i have no idea why, but i kind of like this. so i hang my head in shame and give it an IN.

    • Susan Collier

Did Antonio Berardi fracture a rib in a car accident and use the rib corset as inspiration for this resort collection?

    • http://twitter.com/UtterlyCreative Utterly Creative

OUT. She looks like she is wearing a flag, and she could as well be a kindergarten teacher
on her way to the supermarket.

    • julnyes

The white band across her middle ruins the dress and the hair, though cute, is too casual. Sad to call it an OUT.

    • http://twitter.com/jocelynarias jocelyn arias

Is it my monitor or does the top photograph as three different colors? Coral in the first few, red on the model, and fuchsia in the last few? It’s a hot mess in any color, but I like the top part in fuchsia the most.

    • CatherineRhodes

      OUT

    • MilaXX

Small IN, i expected more from Cate

    • kcarb1025

So sorry that I clicked on this.. out

You all are way less edgy than you think you are if you voted this look out.

    • melanie0866

Yes, it looks droopy.  But I think it’s a cool dress nevertheless.

    • http://twitter.com/cornekopia Shawn EH

In! Love it when she steals Claire Danes’ clothes!

    • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

now that is just ugly.  that is all.

    • ShayShay

This colorblocking trend has just gone to damn far!

    • LordZoe

wellington is super casual, big glam doesn’t really work there.

    • Derek_anny

In Peter Jackson’s youtube production vlog, they mentioned that the Return of the King red carpet broke records for being so long.  And the event coordinator wanted to break the record again. (More space for fans to see the cast, so it’s not a lopsided trade-off).  Seriously, the aerial shot of the carpet was impressive.
