I don’t really care that she looks like an oriental vase. She’s the queen and she can wear whatever she wants.
She is rockin’ this look….but the shoes and purse are a little sad and old ladyish…wait, she is an old lady…
No, she’s not.
I also thought “this is too old lady for her.” Which says a lot about her, the sexiest old lady on the planet.
I think the earrings were too much, and don’t match the shade of gold on the dress.
The problem is that real gold has a certain color and the gold in the embroidery has another color.
I’m starting to think Helen Mirren and Zoe Deschanel have cornered the market on dark hosiery.
I just see them giving each other dirtly looks about the last pair in a duty free shop.
I would change the earrings and the shoes but that’s it. I like it, and even if I didn’t, she may do as she pleases.
Could we also lose the lace sleeve bells? I love her, let me get that out of the way, but I would love this at 3-quarter length (with your point about the earrings & shoes) t’would be a bit sharper.
I didn’t notice those at first but yea, they can go. If you ask me, sleeve bells are never ok. (Unless you’re one of the Brady girls. Then, by all means, sleeve bell away.)
I love that you verbed it.
She looks great – there’s something magical about black and gold, although i might have done just a small gold hoop…
Helen, dear, peep toes with hose are a no-no. I know some think you can do no wrong, but that, that is all wrong. Carry on.
Shorter hems, Helen!! You can totally rock them!!! If the hem were shorter it would be perfection.
I had the same thought. But as she is La Helen, I shall cut her some slack. She’s divine.
I would’ve raised the hem an inch, and STOP WEARING OPEN TOED HEELS WITH PANTYHOSE, DAME HELEN. But from the neck up, enjoy it (although it is very…busy). She’s just so sassy, and that gets her far!
Once again Dame Helen shows the young’uns how it’s done. She looks better than both ScarJo & Jessica Beil.
(As of late that’s not been a hard goal to achieve….)
Absolutely no complaints. The lady is über-fierce!!
Absolute perfection… until I scrolled down below the knees…. dowdy matchy shoes, unflattering length and hate the tights (all of this could have been fixed with better shoes I’m sure). Still beautiful but not what it could have been
I think she looks spectacular! Love her.
She has totally earned the right to dress like an old lady and that is what she’s doing here.
I LOVE it! Only I wish it were a bit shorter.
Shorten the hem, ditch the dark hosiery for a skintone shade, and banish the peeptoes. Perfection for Dame Helen- done.
Teaching the young and unproven-tallents how it’s done and what the right accessory can do through life.
I love Helen Mirren, but I think I basically just don’t like this D&G collection much.
Ooo, no. It’s so heavy and serious.
I am trying to imagine what the learned judges on Project Runway would say if they saw that many iterations of basically the same idea on the runway.
If it were any other lady, I would like to have seen this dress hemmed, the sleeves shortened and paired with different shoes. But as this is Helen, Goddess of the Sexy Minxness, she can do no wrong!
Look at Taylor Hackford, proudly supporting the missus!
Dressed like the queen she is!!! wooohhooo!
What if she and Jessica Biel had switched? I know the Mirren could’ve rocked that glittery pantsuit (and she’d have had it lined properly) but could the Biel have looked better in this black and gold?
It’s so refreshing to see a woman who looks her age. Lovely.
I love everything except the hem length. I either want it to be a gown or to be right below the knee. She’s got the legs and with dark hose, I think a little shorter is fine.
Her face is glorious, and she has beautiful “décolletage” — clavicle and chest, but it bothers me when earrings drag the earlobe down. She could have gone a lot lighter, visually and in weight, with the earrings.
She can carry this heavy brocade, but I’d tweak the outfit with a slightly shorter skirt, closed-toe pumps, and a fancy little clutch, maybe jewel-encrusted. And the earrings, of course.
I am so jealous of her décolletage. As far as earlobes, they don’t seem as *springy* as we age, and unfortunately often get droopy even with light weight earrings.
She was sexy and sassy until I got to her feet. Couldn’t she find nicer comfy shoes? She does rock though.
Meh, it’s a bit much for me. Not bad, though. The dark hose with the peeptoes, however, are a NO. Huge pet peeve.
Perfect for Queen Helen of Fuckingfantastica. I bow.
She looks lovely – but if I’d styled this, I would have taken the hem up to the knee, put her in sheer black hose, and recommended a classic 3″ closed-toe black pump.
Even her wrinkles are gorgeous.
I love the dress, but I don’t like the shoes or the dark hose. I feel like this would have looked better with sheer hose so we could see a little skin.
She is freakin’ fabulous. A real woman with a real face in an excellent dress.
I can’t keep it inside any longer! I hate the way she dresses!!
OMG, I love her!
Everything’s a little matchy but she looks very pretty. I’d like to see the dress just at the knee and higher heeled shoes. Perfect.
I am faintly disappointed that she didn’t wear the granny pantie version with go-go boots. She has the legs for it and I wouldn’t have to be upset by the hose and peeptoes.
It’s people like MIrrin that make me a little less terrified of getting older. She looks fabulous.
Spooky n dreary! I love her too much to say more!
Your Majesty, that’s not your dress.
She has cankles and wears the dark hose to disguise them a bit. She has said as much in interviews.
Killer dress, and I like her hair this way. I would have gone with diamond earrings (too much gold competition there), and I can’t with the peeptoes with hose (to be clear, I’m good with the sheer hose). Pumps would have been much better.
God love her, she’s wearing my dress! OLD BITCHES SHUT IT DOWN.
Imperial as [insert favorite curse word that also works as an intensifier]
It is my oldest son’s birthday today and I’m still not sure anything could make me as happy as knowing Helen Mirren rocked a dress that included granny panties on the runway. And I really hope she’s wearing them underneath that skirt! Work it, Helen!!
I like the dress but her makeup is a bit too soft and washed out looking. That shade of lipstick is not doing her any favours.
No. And quit trying to pretend this works, everybody makes mistakes now and then – even the Queens of Fanfuckingtastica. The length is dowdy, the sleeves are godawful, and the proportions are off. It looks like an excess of frosting is slowly melting down her hips. I’m thinking young Lillian Gish could have totally worked this, but only in character – add the mantilla and a villian, and we’ve got a classic Tragic Senorita of Old California.
Not totally loving this on her. The hemline could be a little shorter, too. Her calves are not her best feature.
I’m surprised that you don’t have anything to say about whatever Helen Mirren is wearing, much less this ‘youthful’ perspective on ‘older’ Italian style. I think it’d look better if the sleeves stopped just past the elbow and there wasn’t a flare.
She, personally looks good. The dress is too heavy, contributes to a dumpy, aging feel. I don’t think shortening it would fix things, though it *might* help.
Of course, I didn’t like these D&G dresses much on the models, either. Mostly because I think the fabric is heavy and overworked.
M’lady, may I be permitted to speak? It would do me such honor to suggest another gown that would illuminate your highness’ great beauty. This one is not worthy.
(And girl, those shoes are mumsy!)
