Heidi Klum in Versace

Posted on November 12, 2012

Heidi Klum is slowly emerging from her dress chrysalis, you guys.

Heidi Klum attends the MTV Europe Music Awards 2012 in Frankfurt am Main, Germany in a Versace gown paired with Lorraine Schwartz jewelry.

Versace Spring 2013 Collection/Model: Katlin Aas

Oh, Fraulein. Never change.

This is when we knew we needed at least one more cup of coffee before attempting to post this morning: when we said, “Y’know, those shoes might just be a bit too much with that dress.”

    • VioletFem

Same thought. I don’t care for the dress, but the shoes are not pretty at all.

      • kimmeister

        They look like ice skates.

    • Funkykatt

      Are there buttock cutouts too?

      • Tammy_4

well, if there aren’t, there certainly SHOULD be.  Then the hiddy is complete.

        • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

Oh, don’t forget the nail polish which matches all the hiddy!  Because, you know, we all really SHOULD match our nail polish to our shoes to our dress.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=559324312 Pablo Ulloa

      90% AWESOME… 10 % EWWWW SHOES ¬¬

    • afabulous50

I sent a Tweet after you sent this out on Twitter.  She is one string away from a wardrobe malfunction.

      • lindsmh

Not just a malfunction, but a complete breakdown.

      • Kristin McNamara

        SO. MUCH. STRING.
However, given that statement, it really is a testament to the woman that not more stuff is…. shall we say…. squishing OUT OF/THROUGH said strings.

    • http://twitter.com/LianaBrooks Liana Brooks

I love this dress even though it’s all wrong for my body type. It’s an outrageous dress, and I like it!

    • http://twitter.com/DarthJaeda Jaeda Laurez

It’s the Voltron of dresses! But i kind of love it though. It suits her in a very specific way. I love the shoes, just not with the dress.

    • HomeOfficeGirl

When I saw “custom Versace” on the Facebook preview I thought – “custom designed BY Heidi FOR Heidi” because that is her kinda dress!!

    • http://twitter.com/FlaviaGPantoja Flavia Pantoja

Shoes aside, there is just a little too much skin for my taste. I mean, her breaste are ready to pop out of the ‘dress’ for criyng out loud!

    • Srw27

It looks like she caught her dress on a nail while exiting the car!

    • eowyn_of_rohan

This is one case when it doesn’t look better on either the wearer or the runway model.  It’s just a God-awful dress.

    • gabbilevy

Well, no one can say it’s not right up her alley. The shoes are definitely a bridge too far and it looks way skankier on her than it does on the model (thanks, boobs). But her hair and face look good, and it’s definitely venue-appropriate.

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Well, she sure has a slammin’ bod. And the colors are great on her. But OH REALLY now, Heidikins. This should be the illustration next to the definition of trying too hard.

      • bitchybitchybitchy

It’s almost as if she can’t help herself. If there is a tiny part of Heidi’s brain that is saying, that’s a bit too much skin there is a much larger section that is screaming YESYESYES!

    • llou56

it’s too bad she wasn’t around for the disco era.

    • nannypoo

This woman judges fashion for a living.

      • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Right?  I laughed out loud when I saw your post.  Mostly from dismay at its truth.

        • bionicgyal1

If I was a designer on Project Runway I would never let her get away with telling me anything about ‘taste issues’.

          • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Can’t you just see that interaction?  Potentially hilarious. “Heidi, how can you sit there, straight faced and diss me about taste issues, in THAT get-up?”

            • Call me Bee

I would pay good American dollars to see that exchange.

            • formerlyAnon

And I would pay even MORE for a split screen shot to see Ms. Garcia’s facial expression during it. Would she smile?

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1344922354 Eric Scheirer Stott

There are a lot of people who can correctly judge fashion, but who have terrible personal taste. It’s as if they’ve got a blind spot.

        • kimmeister

It’s like Paula Abdul and Jennifer Lopez judging singing . . .

      • librarygrrl64

And has told certain PR designers that they have “taste issues.” I can’t even.

    • http://twitter.com/TigerLaverada TigerLaverada

LOL. Saw your twitter pic of this yesterday, and I wondered what you guys were gonna say about her footwear.

    • petalfrog

Somehow it looks so much more vulgar on her than the model. Must be the boobs — it looks like she’s wearing the same size as the model, but on her much more bodacious body. The shoes are hiddy. Why isn’t she wearing some sexy gold strappies?

      • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

It’s definitely the boobs. It’s like it started as a formal caftan, which had a laundry accident and got laced back together.

        • RebeccaKW

I agree on the boobs.  But I think the slit isn’t helping, either.  It seems to come up a bit higher on Heidi than on the model.  Of course the model is walking so she can’t stick her leg out, either…

I don’t actually dislike the dress, other than the cleavage lacing.  The side shot, where you can’t see the boobs, really looks good.  I wish there was a ‘covered sternum’ option, for comparison.

          • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

I agree – I really like the boho/hippy embellishment. Not very seasonal, but gorgeous.

    • tereliz

I kind of like how she has Franken-hair to go with the Franken-dress. And those shoes would be killer with some tight black pants and a glittery top. The dress looks like it should be pronounced Ver-sase.

    • WittyCism

Whoohoo!!!  Gotta’ admit, the lady is all in!

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1476648069 Scott Cooper

She’s been rummaging thru Cher’s closet again.

      • bitchybitchybitchy

And we know that Cher might have worn this, but Cher would have winked to let you know she knew it is a totally ridiculous get-up.

    • schadenfreudelicious

      Gott im Himmel!!

      • Call me Bee

Ach ja!  Haben Sie in deine leben..?

        • bitchybitchybitchy

          Bitte, meine Augen!

    • Sobaika

I almostMAYBEcould sign off on the crazy if it weren’t for those damn shoes.

    • formerlyAnon

One must salute those who command their medium.

NO ONE can wear this without looking tacky/costumey. No one over 24 ought to be able to pull this off under a strong light.

Klum commands the tacky and *almost* makes it look . . . not?  And we all know her age. And god knows the photographer’s flash is a strong light.

Shoes are a bit too far. But who notices? If she’s got to be her, I like this better than the generic short, tight and shiny.

      • Kayceed

Completely agree! I would be terribly disappointed if Heidi started showing up all tasteful-like. Never change, Miss Heidi – your campiness gives me joy.

      • Anathema_Device

It really does look like a costume a woman would wear to dress as Heidi for one of Heidi’s Halloween parties, doesn’t it? Even the dress looks like a parody of a Versace.

    • BazoDee

The shoes are waaay too on point -but that is the least of her problems with this.

    • http://twitter.com/AllForUSophia AllForUSophia

No one can say she hasn’t got a sense of humour!

    • Jessi03

That dress….the mermaid hair….Now is she trying to tell us that she is single and hot, or that she was mauled by a dress-eating bear in a windstorm?

    • http://www.facebook.com/deborah.boschert Deborah Massie Boschert

I can’t believe no one has mentioned the side braid. Talk about a bit much…

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=840088738 Sarah Guernsey

Thank you!!! Whatever about the shoes and the dress – it’s Heidi; we’d expect no less. It’s the HAIR that is making my eyes burn.

      • sweetestsith

I…really like it. I think her hair looks fabulous, though perhaps kinda young for her. I know everyone makes fun of the side braid thing, and I’ll admit that they’re very silly, but I still love them when the hair is well styled.

The dress is hilarious. It looks like it was going so well, met with a last minute accident, got laced onto the runway, and then stolen by Heidi. Beautiful fabrics and textures, ridiculous lacing.

    • Anathema_Device

She is becoming the patron of saint of cougars. Lots of women on the prowl are going to have statues of Heidi in this dress on their dashboards as they hit the bars.

      • formerlyAnon

         Priceless image.

    • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

It looks like a costume. There’s no where for the eye to rest. I feel accosted. oy vay Heidi.

    • crash1212

Love the shoes. Not with the dress. Of course, I’m not certain what shoes would go with that monstrosity of a dress. Pretty color though. And ditto…never change Heidi.

    • bertkeeter

      Hair and Makeup are beautiful!

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1344922354 Eric Scheirer Stott

The color and the beading are nice, but the slit and lacing take it straight to Vegas Stripper land.

    • Elisa_G

This dress is a tacky, hot mess and reminds me of something Wendy Pepper would design. The hair makes me giggle. Still, Heidi’s body looks amazing and this is a total headturner, which is I suppose the purpose of this look. It’s so ridiculous it almost loops back into fabulous. I’m sure her publicist is pleased.

    • Ceur

I’m typically extremely bad at guessing designers when I see an outfit without description. When I saw this picture online I immediately thought ‘Versace.’ There was just no doubt about who made this tasteless tacky mess.

    • Emily Wilson

If she altered the cup size and chucked the shoes, it would have been so offensive

    • Kristina Toma

Dresses like this make my old fuddy duddy side come out and I’m only 29 and not that conservative. But that’s a lotta booby hanging out.

It doesn’t look stylish or sexy. I get it that it’s within Heidi’s wheelhouse, but no. In the [sorta] words of Dolly Parton, she spent a lot of money to look that cheap.

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Ms. Klum you have a phone message – Cher called from 1972 and she wants her dress back.

    • Scarlet39

Someone on Facebook posted “Gianni is looking down and thinking ‘it’s a little much'”.    I’m thinking back to Elizabeth Hurley’s safety pin dress, and even though there was a lot of skin showing, it didn’t cross the line into vulgar.  This, to me, is vulgar.

      • bitchybitchybitchy

I too thought of that safety pin dress, and yes, somehow this seems considerably tackier than that number.

    • Cathy S

The color is great, and she certainly has the body for it. But no.

    • l_c_ann

But, guys, this isn’t the tackiest outfit she wore at that affair.  I’ve only seen the orange swathing thing from the side, (not the orange swinging from a hoolahoop orange dress), but in the orange thing, we see a lot more of Heidi that even her bikinis show.
What is the woman thinking?  She’s not going to destroy the Victoria’s Secret empire by inspiring womankind to go braless (just because she’s no longer on their ”fashion show” runway.

At some point, she’ll hear a “Oh, MOTHER” chorus from the Klumlettes, but will she listen?

      • formerlyAnon

That’s a pretty genius name for the offspring!

And I figure she’s got at least one more to go – she’s just young enough, you  KNOW she’ll be in a longish-term relationship within a year or two, and she seems to like having kids.

    • Judy_J

Somewhere Lea Michelle is looking at these photos and saying, “I want that dress!”

      • bitchybitchybitchy

        OF course.

    • http://onebluetree.blogspot.com/ Sara L.

That whole dress is too much for that dress.

    • http://twitter.com/MajorBedhead MajorBedhead

There are elements of this dress that are beautiful, but as a whole, it’s really awful.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Julie-Chase/731391326 Julie Chase

Trashy trashy trashy. And just so ugly. She become the new go-to “of course.”

    • miagain

      oh for God’s sake!

    • ChristySchiff

Gives new meaning to the expression “Bust a stitch laughing.”

    • In_Stitches

It’s…flattering.  For all the thigh and chest she usually likes to show, she often chooses dresses that don’t flatter her figure, so in the end it’s…progress?  The shoes are truly an awful, awful choice.

    • MoHub

And if a designer on PR sent this down the runway, Kors would be saying “Slutty, slutty, slutty,” “Too costume-y,” or both.

Oh Heidi, Heidi, Heidi: Are you really that desperate?

    • http://twitter.com/hummergirl99 Cynthia Lewandowski

      Of course

    • Aurumgirl

      Holy Mutton, Batman.

    • MaryanneGirl

      Have MERCY!

    • MilaXX

Oh Heidi, so desperate looking. It’s sad that I saw this and thought I could give her a pass if she didn’t have those shoes on and sewed up that slit.

    • bitterk

Ha!  Nothing is too much for that dress

    • AuntieAnonny

      “Of course.”

    • StephanieLovesTLo

To quote Heidi, I think it looks cheap. (and it’s clearly not, so that’s quite a feat).

      • bitchybitchybitchy

And it looks chip in a chip way…

    • snich11

Why does she seem so desperate to scream “Look how SEXY I am!!” ? She has always been gorgeous. I just don’t get it…

      • bitchybitchybitchy

I don’t get it either. She’s gorgeous, has a great bod after four children, is a very successful businesswoman, but she just can’t tear herself away from hookerific clothing.

        • formerlyAnon

Honest to god, I think she just enjoys dressing like this.  Don’t we all know somebody who’s otherwise a reasonably adult human being who just comes undone over fart jokes, or stuffed kitties or cutesy over-matched table linens or some other completely inexplicable something you’d think they’d have outgrown?

I’m waiting to see if she ever does morph it into a more mature style or if she’s just going to start looking more & more inappropriate. Because so far, she mostly can still pull it off, it just is starting to look silly. That won’t last forever.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Linda-Harris/1358701372 Linda Harris

      of course

    • http://phantomminuet.blogspot.com/ MinAgain

Say what you will about the dress, her boobs look great for a woman who’s had as many children as she has.

      • mhleta

That’s what I was thinking, too. Show ‘em off while you got ‘em, Heidi. They’re pretty special. The shoes, not so much.

    • geans

My thought process was: “her boobs look great”…then “holy crap, why can I see her boobs?”

    • http://twitter.com/Chucko78 Chuck Barthelme

I feel like Heidi needs to start dressing more her age. She’s coming off as desperate dressing like a younger woman when she’s almost 40. Somewhere along the line she conflated sex appeal with showing as much skin as possible. I can’t help but think she’d look younger and sexier in the outfit Jennifer Lawrence is wearing in the next post.

    • halleygee

She is SO gorgeous and her body is SO amazing and that dress and those shoes are SO hideous!

    • Candigirl1968

I opened up my screen and the first thing I did was recoil and exclaim “oh my Lord.”  Thanks for keeping me from needing a mid- morning cup of coffee, because this woke me right back up!

This is horrid from head to toe.

    • decormaven

For so many lacings in one look, it’s completely out of bounds. Surprise us- wear something that isn’t tight, shiny, or cut up/down to the crotch.

    • SapphoPoet

You know, I think Heidi needs to come out of her shell just a little bit more. She’s far too shy and retiring to be a celebrity.

    • snarkykitten

      wow that is trashy!

    • Thuc Dang

Yep, the whole self-aware trashy/tacky of Versace suits Heidi’s personal style perfectly. But those SHOES. ugh.

    • jmorino08

Wow! That is maybe one of the tackiest red carpet looks in history!

    • ojosazules

I am in total awe. The shoes are perfect. Pure, unadulterated kitsch. An Eleganza Extravanganza!! Thank you, Heidi. Never, ever, never, change.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=790818401 Laurie Landry

My husband would say “Nothing wrong with that.”

    • thecitysleeps

Heidi,  you’re one of the most beautiful women in the world, why do you insist on seeming cheap and class less and almost desperate?  I don’t know.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mary-Stone/100001328135240 Mary Stone

turqoise hooves.  The dress needs to go to Carmen Carrera, stat, but I don’t think Carmen wants the shoes.  Seriously dear, too old for this clusterf*ckery any more.

    • Joyce VG

Heidi “The Body” indeed. I think she looks absolutely fantastic!

    • piecesofconfetti

Also, what is going on with her hair?

    • Qitkat

Angelina, eat your heart out! Naaaaa. IDTS.
This dress was only made for two women, Lea or Heidi. I’d much rather see Heidi wear it, somehow it’s not nearly as slutty as if Lea wore it. Being on a very relative scale of 8 to 10, H is 8, L is 10. Snort. I think she looks so happy because she finally found the perfect dress, in her mind.

    • frannyprof

Perfect dress for the venue. The shoes, blech.

    • elleg929

Just because you can wear the dress, it doesn’t mean you should.

    • annrr

I like it for her, tied a little tighter on the chest though. I don’t like the heir, too literal, and the ice skate shoes are too matchy.

    • MoHub

Heidi: Do you allow your children to see you looking like this?

      Yes, you probably do.

    • PastryGoddess

      You know,

I think the shoes ARE a bit much for the look. Had she thrown on some strappy sandals, I would have been all for it.  I mean, this dress is not for mere mortals to wear, so if she can rock it, why not

    • cocohall

The dress looks like someone took one of Mrs. Roper’s caftans from Three’s Company, got busy with a bedazzler and a seam ripper, and voila!  A new schmatta for Fraulein Heidi.  As for the shoes – they do appear to be the one’s paired with the dress on the runway.  And what is “too much” when you already have that body busting loose from that dress?   I think they are the PERFECT shoe for the dress.  Over the Top Tacky seems to be what that dress requires.  A demure metallic strappy sandal would just be a disappointment.

    • QuincyTKatz

      Is that Denim?

    • QuincyTKatz

      Is that Cer circa 1972?

    • QuincyTKatz

      Errrr, CHER

    • Cory Stottlemyer

Lea Michelle is seething because she didn’t get to this dress first

      • unbornfawn

        You made me giggle!

    • Jessica Goldstein

She’s becoming Cher without being in on the joke. I think the whole look is vulgar.

    • Alisa Rivera

      DESPERATE

    • Kenisha Hill Phillips

      I’m not ready.

    • MightyMarshal

      That looks remarkably like Willam.

    • http://twitter.com/mirrormirrorxx Paola Thomas

      Of course

    • AnaRoW

I also love the dress and hate the shoes.  I think it looks better on the model though. I also dislike Heidi’s hair and makeup.

    • UsedtobeEP

Ah well, good for her. There was never a moment in time when I would have worn this, and I am on the skinny side. I have to salute her bravura, if not her odd shoe choice. On the other hand, what WOULD you wear those shoes with??

    • UptownNippy

It makes me feel sorry that she thinks she has to do this.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_U5LTVYHX32MGMMXR33G7TOXVR4 Magdalena Monzerrat Ontiveros

Oh, i love the outfit head to toe!!! :) She’s the only one who can wear this and make it work!

    • ChelseaNH

For a VMA, this is tasteful…

    • susan6

It’s amazing that her boobs look like that after 4 kids.  How are they not sagging?  And this dress allows NO support system, unless there’s some magical clear plastic push-up or taping going on under there somehow.

I want to say “no”, but somehow she’s pulling this off.  Except for the shoes.

    • Lattis

      chrysalis . . . shoes a bit much
I have to thank you guys for the laugh. You are the best.  :)

You know, if Heidi was laughing her ass off when she was trying this on and being fitted etc. I would love her like my best friend. Especially because she had the chutzpah to go through with wearing it in public. I think I’ll choose to think of her that way.

    • StillGary

Don’t know why I clicked in — the words Heidi Klum and Versace told me everything I needed to know — just like the words Halle Berry and Versace — Why is Versace so slutty — do you remember when Frederick’s of Hollywood sold clothes via catalog — I’m sure these are the are the same dresses.

    • Call me Bee

Sweet Jesus on a breadstick.  Have some frickin’ dignity…(though it is the MTV Awards, so there ya go…it’s a perfect outfit for that venue…)  )

    • MattCooper27

      Oy vey.

    • BrooklynBomber

Oh my God. That deserves some kind of prize. I don’t know what prize, but it’s certainly the most …something!!…I’ve ever seen.

    • ri_dic

SOOOO fugly. And proof that once again, just because it has a big name attached to the garment- designer and wearer- doesn’t mean it’s automatically good.

    • Orange Girl

Does her face, specifically her nose, look different???

    • HapEPants

Well, that explains the state of Project Runway.

    • LesYeuxHiboux

That eye makeup is insane. I can’t believe she wore the matching shoes, but then I can’t imagine a pair of shoes that would go with this Pyramid Collection Hooker ensemble. This is a serious Britney-and-Justin-Texas-Tuxedos moment. I maybe kind of like the hair (and love the fact that our Heidi, true to form, trailed the hair over the more covered side of her bod).

The whole thing, makeup to shoes, is the kind of thing that makes the wearer look much older because it’s straining so hard for youthfulness.

    • Tatiana Luján

      This is SO vulgar

    • poggi

Make sure to hold that slit open, otherwise it might be too demure.

    • Tatiana Luján

      This belongs to RuPaul’s show.

    • Lisa Kramp

Only a supermodel could carry that look off. She belongs on the Victoria’s secret show….butterfly hooker!

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/KZBBNYDMMMALGCUZSAFXWUWQ24 NYCKay

      Girl, get a stylist. PLEASE

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/KZBBNYDMMMALGCUZSAFXWUWQ24 NYCKay

Girl, get a stylist. PLEASE. And one more thing, yes we know you’re available.

    • jjfg

Wow.  That looks like a Kayne/Uli collaboration gone very, very bad.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_UCLO5V2YD36T7QMPKOC7YXPOFU Erica

      Oh, dear LORD….

    • PrunellaV

I wish the shoes were gold. Might as well go all the way over the top. That said, I’d dress like that if I looked like her.

    • http://vhanna26.typepad.com Vera

Hmmm…How does one say, “Of course” in German?

    • khh1138

Choices, Heidi, it’s all about choices.  Heidi re-laced the dress so it’s a good 3 inches more open in front – of course.  And she bought a size too small – of course.  And she bought the same shoes as on the runway, rather than picking “real-life” shoes – of course.  Oh, Heidi.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_F73LIJ3SJGI5AJQMXMWXCKILHI Pamela

Honey, you have supermodel genes; why do you look increasingly desperate (and inappropriate) every time you’re on display???

    • Stubenville

Oh Heidi – why not just tattoo “COUGAR” on your sternum along with your phone number?

    • pookiesmom

Before seeing the picture, I thought maybe the first sentence was a metaphor for how Heidi’s finally accepting that the goal of clothing should not be to reveal as much as possible. Imagine my disappointment that she literally appears to be emerging from a bedazzled chrysalis.

Is it wrong that I kind of love her hair, though? The side braid’s a bit whackadoo, yes, but the side-bangs are framing her face very nicely.

I thought she cancelled her Halloween party this year….

THAT … whatever all that is … is the most hideous thing i’ve ever seen her wear.

    • MrsJoe

Well, the one positive I can give is that her body looks amazing (as it should being what it is), which has actually not been the case in many of the figure-destroying ensembles she has chosen lately.

The dress is truly hideous, and the shoes just push the look TOO. FAR.

    • Trisha26

The dress is actually amazing – what a lot of
      workmanship, and on the model, i.e. “in motion,” it looks very sci-fi princess;
if the leg slit were more modest and the front sewn together like a normal gown
it would be beautiful. As is it’s total Adult Entertainment Awards. The shoes are very “slutty grandma.”

    • littlemac8

I guess you can’t take the Victoria Secret out of the model!  She looks ridiculous but you know she thinks she looks “sessy.”

    • MzzPants

      Cracktacular!

TLo said “This is when we knew we needed at least one more cup of coffee before attempting to post this morning: when we said, “Y’know, those shoes might just be a bit too much with that dress.”

Oh, boys, never change! still laughing here….

      Of course.

    • ccm800

just a bit. And that dress might be a bit to much for reality

    • m0r0

That hair is a little too much for that dress. It looked fabulous on the model and trashy on Heidi. Say no more, Right.

    • neofashionista

this is just sooo soo so very wrong
but hey she looks happy and THAT is a plus

    • J MN

      No. Way.

The best I can say is there is a time and place for everything; almost.  This would be the place for such a costume, and Heidi does
appear to have the bod for it; but it still feels a little bit strained.. her eye make-up is super thick and the slit is too high and the
thing is she could have worn so many other ‘sexy’ things that are less like tortured loungewear from Fred’s.
She does seem to love her costumes though; this is like California Girl on Neptune.

How can her tits look that good after the pack of rugrats she’s birthed?

    • librarygrrl64

      Choose one:
      A. Desperate.
      B. Trying too hard.
      c. Has no mirrors in house.
      D. All of the above.

      Donald Trump hair much?

    • BrightsideSusan

She needs an intervention.  Her children must be mortified and I am tired of seeing so much of her.
