Heidi Klum for Amica Magazine

Posted on November 21, 2012

Darlings, as we, the American Bitter Kittens, prepare to celebrate that most American of holidays (ethnic exploitation + stuffing your face), let’s all turn to our favorite German to provide us with a little fun and glamour. And hair. Lots and lots of hair.

Heidi Klum covers the December 2012 issue of Amica magazine photographed by Ruven Afanador and styled by Isabel Dupré. Hair: Michael Aleman. Makeup: Linda Hoy.

Ralph Lauren Fall 2012 Collection

Giorgio Armani Fall 2012 Collection

Blumarine Fall 2012 Collection

Roberto Cavalli Fall 2012 Collection

Gucci Fall 2012 Collection

Salvatore Ferragamo Fall 2012 Collection

The thing about the Kluminator is, she’s not a supermodel in the Naomi/Christy/Carmen/Kate/Linda mold by any stretch of the imagination, but she’s, well, fun to look at, y’know? She strikes us as someone who just doesn’t clutter her mind up with much in the way of negativity and that tends to come through on her shoots. Also: hair. And teeth.

In other Project Runway-related news, there’s no All-Stars this week, so you’ll all have to use this as your T LOunge to chat away the holidays and get away from your family members when they drive you a little nuts. Trade recipes! Trade holiday war stories! But by all means, have a safe and happy one, darlings. To our non-American kittens, we apologize for the break in fabulosity, but we promise we’ll make it up to you next week.

Oh! One more Project Runway-related thing: Rungay Toon star (and illustrator of our upcoming book) Alex! is selling off his original strips and artwork on Ebay (here, here, here and here). Grab them while you can, darlings! They make great Christmas and Chanukah gifts for the kiddies! Or for yourself.

Liking the beheaded lion. The Kluminator looks appropriately intense.

    • Reneesance

Daddies…*whimper* why is Heidi resting  on the decapitated head of a lion?  I’m scared.

      • kimmeister

        It’s crazy-disturbing.

        • Kristin McNamara

But what if it’s not decapitated, it just appears to be because of the camera angle, and really she’s just spooning with it?

      • Deb_Lynn

she bit it’s head off and stole it’s mane. and she’s damn proud of it.

      • l_c_ann

You’re scared?  How do you think the lion felt?

        • sk8tfan

especially since the poor thing was trying to mate with her when she slew it.

          • Reneesance

In the jungle, the quiet jungle, the lion is bleeding out while Heidi dances around with its head tonight!  Everyone sing!

    • Jill_3

I find this to be absolutely terrifying. SHE KILLED A LION WITH THOSE TEETH.

    • http://angryfemur.tumblr.com Andrea Lane

Ahhh! The Kluminator is morphing into a LION.

      • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Really?  I think she looks more like she’s morphing into a cougar.

        • Jill_3

           SNAP.

    • http://twitter.com/Moondragonic Charlotte

Huh, I thought she was wearing a giant fur hat, but a second glance proves it’s all hair.

      • BrooklynBomber

Well, it’s something. i’m not sure it’s actual hair.

        • bitchybitchybitchy

The hair stylist and/or his/her assistants were working their little fingers off placing those extensions in La Klum’s hair.

    • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

Happy Thanksgiving to all the US-based bitter kittens!

The first one is sort of Sasha Fierce but more fun, the second is maybe Shakira?

    • zuzu

      SHE KILLED ASLAN!

      • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Oh, I think I just fell in love with you.

      • elleg929

        But don’t worry…he comes back.

      • NCDFan

She had to get that mane from somewhere.

      • SayWTH

I was thinking they were doing a remake of “The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe” and went with a Black Witch instead of a White Witch because you KNOW Swinton would have risen up and kicked Klum’s ass if she tried to do the White Witch!!

    • http://twitter.com/tangodiva Tanya Wade

Giving 1980s German Drag Realness. And I’m just talkin’ bout the lion!

Happy Thanksgiving ya’ll. Thanks for making my work days FUN.

    • Violina23

      Happy Thanksgiving Y’all!  (And no, I don’t usually say ‘Y’all’)  :)

    • In_Stitches

Is it supposed to be funny?  Because I’m laughing.

    • http://twitter.com/irmaladuce_l8ly IrmaLaDuce

She looks like Ricardo Montalban as Khan.

      • kimmeister

        Y’know, I always marveled at Khan’s cleavage.

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

I heard that it was partly him, cause he was rather a fitness nut, and partly a latex prosthetic piece.

          • kimmeister

            Really!  (About the prosthetics.)

      • Vera L-

        KHAN!!!!!!!!

        • http://twitter.com/algaechick algaechick

           KLUM!!!!!!

    • MilaXX

It looks like a sexed up Snow Queen from Narnia That last shot has poor Aslan just saying “whatev” .

    • marilyn

Love her!  She is doing an arctic Mary Kate and Ashley look (MK&A look= the designer dressed bag lady thing, and bag ladies are grown up waifs, sometimes referred to as Boho Chic, which is Recycled Hippie Crap). She loves to be outrageous, and is great looking. More power to her!!

    • hellkell

The lion shot is serving up Cher “Take Me Home” album cover realness.

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

Heidi didn’t appreciate Aslan’s sexist and condescending antics.
Also, did she borrow her extensions from Shakira? For some reason this sort of almost-dreaded giant hair reminds me of her. Heidi’s a SHE-WOLF. But a teutonic one.

    • kimmeister

Wow, that’s a lot of hand ornamentation.

    • Vera L-

I thought she was wearing a fur lined hood (nanook!) in the first picture. ~boggle~ Insert “muff” jokes here.
She looks fierce and beautiful -Heidi can still bring it.

    • Sobaika

I’m very much appreciating all the Narnia references from the Bitter Kittens.

In Thanksgiving-related matters, my family is Pakistani so we have two feasts – one traditional turkey + sides and the other a bunch of spicy flavorful subcontinent food. It almost always involves a bunch of arguing over which is the best way to cut a bird and stuffing next to curried lamb. Happy Thanksgiving to all!

      • tereliz

mmm, curried lamb… I am coming over to Sobaika’s (is it so-BI-kah or so-bah-EE-kah?) for Thanksgiving.

        • Sobaika

          Original Arabic – Sah-bike-ah
          Urdu Transliteration – Su-bei-ka
          American Transliteration  - So-bake-uh

          Like one bakes a cake!

          • tereliz

Pretty! Thanks for the Arabic and Urdu transliterations, too. I’m a big nerd about names (fiction writer).

          • BrooklynBomber

I thought so-BYE-i-kuh. Thanks for the pronunciation guide!

        • SassieCassy

haha ive wondered about her name for so long!!!! count me in for curried lamb also

      • Reneesance

Yum!  I wanna go to your house!

    • Frank_821

To paraphrase Tlo: “Heidi, don’t ever change” :)

    • bookish

Hah! I stared at that first photo for a good 10 seconds before realizing that was HAIR and not a big furry hat or coat hood.

      • l_c_ann

Is it really hair or is it something else, that looks like hair?
Can you  imagin going to the hair store and asking for four foot long multicolored mane-type hair?

    • Pants_are_a_must

I’d say she’s doing a wonderful White Witch here, but let’s face it: Tilda Swinton NAILED IT in the first Narnia movie.

      So…Cher’s White Witch, then?

Happy Thanksgiving Day and have a Pepto good night!

    • Allyson Wells

I honestly thought she had a fur trimmed hood on in that first picture.  Too much hair, if you ask me.

      • crash1212

My thoughts exactly…well, except I was way meaner than you in that I wondered why they put her in an ugly, matted-dog-fur hood. Really bad choice. She sure smiles purdy, though!

    • tereliz

Um… that wig on the cover has gray roots. The outfit is boxy and a little ugly. All the other pics are fun and glamourous (with a distinct Narnia vibe), but the cover shot seems so incongruous in comparison.

    • http://twitter.com/MajorBedhead MajorBedhead

Wow. It’s like a Whitesnake video mashed with Xanadu.

    • Sara__B

I never noticed what a strong jaw she has. Maybe because I’ve never seen so much shadow under her jaw before.

    • Rand Ortega

Crackfuckintastic! Heidi serves up cray cray like it was Thanksgiving in Narnia. The lion looks relieved.

    • Anathema_Device

Yes, Heidi is not a supermodel in the high-fashion sense. But she is just so pretty when she flashes that big smile. I feel like sap for saying that, but there you have it.

Happy Thanksgiving to T Lo and all my fellow BKs!

Pre-meal prep is already underway at Casa Device. Teaching my 17 yo son how to make our special cranberry orange (&whiskey) chutney. My husband and daughter are making the pie. My brother is coming over to help cook tomorrow, so it is all hands on deck time, which is the part I love, actually.

      • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Many good wishes for a Happy T Day, my friend. I’m going to s fabulous foodie thanksgiving at my friends Emily and Kris’s place. Taking my sausage and cranberry stuffing, and a batch of homemade duck pate au poivre.
        Yumminess for all!

        • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Heading over to my sister’s.  I’m offically in charge of the rutabaga (“beggy”).  I boil it and mash it.  Then I throw in enough brown sugar and butter to choke a horse.  I find that most things taste better covered in brown sugar and butter, though, lol.  Happy Thanksgiving Everybody!  :)

          • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

You are so right! Ever have bacon with a brown sugar glaze? Awesomesauce!

            • SayWTH

Add a touch of cinnamon & cayenne to that brown sugar glaze and you will be in heaven!

          • tereliz

I do smashed rutabaga for Thanksgiving, too! But I keep mine savory. It’s a super cheap option, and so delicious! And apart from the butter, fairly healthy. ;)

        • Anathema_Device

Sounds fantastic and so gourmet. Enjoy it!

      • charlotte

Why oh why am I in a country without Thanksgiving? Enjoy your meals, y’all!

    • joancarol

I just can’t take her seriously anymore.

      • Nikko Viquiera

I don’t think she wants us too! She just wants to have fun!!!

    • SneakyKitty

So this is Frau Klum as the White Witch?  Because that’s all I could see after the shot with the lion head.  Poor lion.  I feel for you, buddy.

    • StillGary

She looks like a Norse Goddess! Rock on Heidi! And a very Happy Thanksgiving to TLo and all the Bitter Kittens. Thanks for all your wonderful chat and soul — you are the best distraction ever!

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=535548244 Kim Baker Vidas Davey-Irvin

well.  she is very 1 million years BC in all this, isn’t she?

    • jjfg

Oooh, that second photo makes MY back hurt.

    • formerlyAnon

For some reason I really, really like the first photo after the cover. Unlike the others, it tells me a story, albeit one that may expand over 400+ pages of fantasy with references to the mythologies of northern Europe, the British Isles and the Wiemar Republic.

As for the rest, all seems very costumey, but she sure is easy on the eyes.

    • formerlyAnon

P.s. Happy Thanksgiving to all. I hope everyone has as much to be thankful for as I do, and a better year ahead if not.  Special gratitude to our hosts, who provide me so much entertainment.

      • BarniClaw

You said this beautifully, so I’d like to second it. I get so much pleasure and entertainment from TLo and the BKs, every Monday through Friday, several times a day. If only I could bill for the hours I spend here every month…

Thank you, TLo, for creating this site and this community.

    • random_poster

Happy Thanksgiving, TLO and the USBKs!!

    • decormaven

Because MORE is MORE! Let’s put on at least one ring, if not two, on EVERY finger, and set the bronzer on fierce! These are just full of roasty-toasty wackadoodle. They remind me of that song that the waitress/singer wannabe warbled in the movie, Nashville — “I never get enough, I never get enough, I always want more and more…”
Happy Turkey Day to all the BKs, and thanks to our hosts for making the days a little brighter for all of us.

    • http://phantomminuet.blogspot.com/ MinAgain

I’m going to have nightmares about her hair.   It’s like a colony of rats made a nest on the old MGM lion’s head.

    • Tatiana Luján

Sorry, I don’t see the glamour. She cheapens all the looks.

    • twocee

I don’t know why, but I love this.

Happy Thanksgiving to all the US Bitter Kittens.  And to you TLo — on my list of silly things to be thankful for this site is near the top!

    • margaret meyers

That stuff looks worse than the “fun fur” trim on an Army surplus store annorak.

    • SewingSiren

The cover shot is weird. The rest are fun.

Thanksgiving is about my least favorite holiday. Because it involves in-laws. I do not enjoy cooking for people who do not share my DNA. Much is expected.

      • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

I find drinking a large glass of an alcohol-laced beverage very soothing for dealing with annoying relatives.  But hey, that’s just me.

        • meowing

Be strong. Make the things they do not like, anyway. (If it’s worth the work, that is.)

      • http://CallMeJane.com/ CallMeJane

It’s the day after Thanksgiving now, but I wanted to give you my support.  I’m divorced, but I clearly recall those feelings. T’giving remains my least favorite holiday since my kids refuse to eat any of the traditional foods.  This year we went to El Torito buffet rather than deal with the oxymoronic ingratitiude normally dished out on this holiday by my offspring. They loved the buffet.  Said it was the best day of their lives **eyeroll**.  Perhaps next year SewingSiren….. you could treat your in-laws to a buffet.  A girl can dream, right?

    • DTLAFamilies

That Ralph Lauren is the kind of dress she should wear on the red carpet but won’t because it doesn’t show off the goodies enough.

The Blumarine would be perfect for Kristen Stewart.

    • Nazzzy

That Ferragamo dress is one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3JSTXMWWVZN2QNP2UEKJMTWD7U Isabel

Italians – help me with the translation. On the cover, it reads “un inverno da favola”. Does this mean a fairy-tale winter or a dreamy winter? Is that title applicable to Heidi’s pictures?

      • tereliz

My college-level Italian made me read that as “Winter of Dreams.”

    • DCSheehan

Great choice of clothes. Cray-cray hair but on her it totally works. Wow, that Blumarine dress is sublime.

    • BuffaloBarbara

Oh, Heidi.  Hanging around in barbarian gowns with a lion in the old ice cave again?

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Vienna-Marriott/100001636120960 Vienna Marriott

      Shakira!

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/WPIBSSX4GFEJEZVU7VD7DNFYQY Nancy from NY

Some of those pics look nothing like Heidi! Weird.

    • mjude

i am thankful for all my bitter kitten friends.  have a great holiday everyone.

    • Rosington

She looks lovely and happy…you’re right, TLo, she does eminate some inner satisfaction or contentedness.

    • BrooklynBomber

      Oh, god, no. Just, no….no….no!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_F73LIJ3SJGI5AJQMXMWXCKILHI Pamela

Ugh-that wig looks like it came off a bag lady.  The dead lion has a better-looking mane.  And….dead lion?  Really?

    • erinbinek

      Whut.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1594250515 Kim Brightman

TLo – you guys are absolutely right.  She looks a bit silly with a fierce face.  The tight little grimace when she Aufs someone, she can do.  But scary witch or warrior goddess, no way.

    • charlotte

Uhm, I’m pretty sure I’m your favorite German. And this Heiditorial (see what I did there) is all kinds of creepy.

    • BrooklynBomber

Thanksgiving is not my favorite holiday, because of, as TLo put it: “ethnic exploitation + stuffing your face.”

I like at least try to remember the thanks component of the day. So THANK YOU, TLo and commenters – kittens – poodles – minions for the laughs, the entertainment, the sometimes weighty conversation and deep thoughts. I love that this place can career and careen from parsing a pleat to referencing Arthur M. Schlesinger, from “chip in a chip way” to cultural biases in media, from Tear Drops of Blood (which I think deserves capitalization) to supportive cheers when someone’s undergoing chemo or some kind of upheaval. There are lots of very smart and very funny people around here, starting of course with T & Lo, who lead the way with their brilliant humor and incisive commentary. Thank you, everyone! – BB

      • formerlyAnon

        SO well said.

        • BrooklynBomber

          Thank you! :)

      • watchmeboogie

         Ditto!

      • dress_up_doll

Well said, BB! Well said! And a Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

    • http://twitter.com/lenabena_ Elena

Oh lawd. In that first photo, I thought her hair was a dramatic, ugly fur hood or some kind.

    • Kate4queen

I think she looks pretty damn good-apart from the hair.
As an expat who has lived in the U.S. for 15 years I’ve come to quite enjoy TG-its Xmas without the presents and far less stressful! So thanks America for that. :)

    • ChristinaRi

      HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!

hugs and kisses for the holiday.

Personally, I’m thankful for Tom and Lorenzo.  :)

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/DBSIHWVY4ECXGNXAXFXJMSCNIE Katrin

You know, I like the HAIR. One thing I always dislike about Frau Klum is her tendency to wear her hair slicked back which to me always looks a little strange on blondes. So seeing her with HAIR is a nice change.

    • Lily-Rygh

Oh, lord. That third shot down (second interior shot) in the Armani dress is just painful to look at.  Seriously.

    • Miss_Led

I imagine that Heidi tore that lion’s head off with her bare teeth.

Happy Thanksgiving Bitter Kittens, enjoy our national weirdly imperialist holiday! Best wishes, luck and light especially to those struggling with body/food issues.

    • quiltrx

Stevie Nicks and Lita Ford called…they’re wondering when you’ll be returning their hair. :)

And I like that squishy top-hat thing.  Very HBC.

    • siriuslover

Happy Thanksgiving Tom and Lorenzo! Stuffing and pie, yummy!

      • aahlife

I am a photoshopper, and noticed all the modifications to her nose – in some they have lengthened it, another it is widened. She has a tiny narrow nose with a sizable space before her mouth. You see her real nose in a couple of photos. This primarily why she does not look like herself in some of these photos.

    • frannyprof

Very _Clan of the Cave Bear_.

    • plinkiedoodle

      Another no, no, no.

    • librarygrrl64

      Bwahahahahaha!!!! [takes breath] Bwahahahahahaha!!!

This manages to make every single garment look completely tacky.

    • http://profiles.google.com/sauchih Sau-Chih Feng

That cover shot makes her look OLDDDDDDD.

    • ccm800

Wow she could have a real go at this modeling thing.

    • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

here is my thanksgiving story:  the first year my parents were married (1938),  they won a door prize at some sort of dinner party (probably rotary club related).  the prize was an electric turkey roaster, which i still use every year.  an amazing tribute to american industrial craftsmanship.  there’s a dent in the side of the roaster from the time my grandpa dropped the roaster, with cooked bird inside, down the back steps at their house.  they just rinsed it off, and didn’t mention it until after dinner.  i guess my grandparents had made the turkey at their house and were bringing it over to our house in the (now famous) roaster.  this was way before my time.  anyway, it always makes for a good story, and the turkey comes out great.  it cooks in moist heat, so it doesn’t get brown, but the meat is always tender and succulent.  and you get lots of good drippings for gravy.

my mom used to cook the turkey in the roaster in the garage, so it wouldn’t get the house “all smelly”.  mom was a bit OCD, no?  the whole point of thanksgiving is for the house to smell like good home cooking for days.

let’s all give thanks to and for Tlo and all their hard work to keep us amused and entertained!

But the more important question is:

      Is Alex single?

Happy Thanksgiving, TLo and all PUFs!

    • http://twitter.com/DarthJaeda Jaeda Laurez

Honest to god, I thought that top photo was a fur hoodie. That hair is just…nawl.

    • unbornfawn

Thanks TLo for all the fashion, insite and the laughs. Thanks Bitter Kittens for all the wise and witty comments. Happy Thanksgiving to all.

    • guest2visits

oh my – Something from Narnia or a Logan’s Run; with epic Farrah Fawcett hair.  The crazy stovetop is a keeper, Heidi.

      Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

    • http://www.facebook.com/iris.liu4 Iris Liu

Right on the money, TLo: “that most American of holidays (ethnic exploitation + stuffing your face)”.
First shot scared me with the cray-cray Cruella hair. Nothing against grey hair whatsoever. It was just jarring, given her usual hair.

Love the last and third-to-last shots of her.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1074301175 Beverly Hensley Kozma

Heidi’s gorgeous, but the stylist who scraped her dog’s brush and put it on Heidi’s head has no excuse!

    • formerlyAnon

Shopping Warrior vibes go out to those who are doing retail battle today! Especially those who started early and are already done.

I’m sitting the whole thing out – don’t need and can’t spend in equal measures. As I enjoy my post-festivity peace (no co-workers! no-one to entertain! bliss!), 2nd and 3rd coffees, and eventually leftovers, I will thank those of you shopping for keeping the economy ticking along.

    • amian3

I love that Armani coral dress over shorts on the runway. Couldn’t pull it off and not sure anyone off the runway could but I love it.

    • Amy Ennis

For those of you who don’t know, Disney Jr has a new show called Princess Sofia or something to that effect. Tim Gunn voices her footman. He’s very dapper as a cartoon.

    • kikisayshi

pics 3 (Armani) and 4 (Blumarine) are my favorites here: fierce and pretty. I kinda like the whole Ice Princess thing she’s got going on.

    • http://twitter.com/kbshee kbshee

Love the Blumarine dress. So Heidiesque–short, tight, shiny. Shtiny.

    • PeaceBang

      Oh noes! Disembodied lion head!

    • PeaceBang

The porkpie hat with the Cavallo outfit? DYING of want.

    • SapphoPoet

I’m super-late with this comment, but it looks rather like Barbarella got dressed up and went on a fashion shoot.

    • SayWTH

Add a touch of cinnamon & cayenne to that brown sugar glaze and you will be in heaven!

    • abigail3
