Gwen Stefani in Paris

Posted on November 06, 2012

Gwennie, we love your personal style, and have said so many a time…

Gwen Stefani arrives at Gare du Nord train station in Paris.

But even you can’t make a camo jumpsuit look chic, hon. Take comfort in the fact that we think your jacket’s kind of cool.

Le sigh. We wish were in Paris right now.

At least it’s not an Indian headdress.

    • MissMariRose

First, she came for the Japanese. Then it was the Indians. Who’s next, the Dutch?

      • Squarah

hahaha She is definitely the cultural appropriation queen, unfortch.

      • andcoh

Actually she came for the Indians first.  This is like a return to form.

      • plzidgaf

First she came for the bindis,
        and I didn’t speak out because I didn’t wear a bindi.

Then she came for the island of Jamaica,
        and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t Jamaican.

Then she came for the Harajuku Girls,
and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t from Harajuku.

Then she wore a racist caricature of traditional Native American dress
and I was like WTF Gwen why can’t you just be happy being a white lady.

        • LesYeuxHiboux

I think it’s interesting that no one was screaming when she appropriated Hispanic culture about a million times. She comes from SoCal, sure, but she was a rich white girl who wore cashmere sweaters and sang in the choir. Hardly a chola.

          • JasmineAM

This was actually the first thing I thought of yesterday when I heard about the Native American thing. She’s dressed like a latina TONS of times (her video for “Luxurious” comes to mind) and I’m not aware of any complaints.

          • plzidgaf

I did think about her chola looks but it didn’t fit in the poem. lbr the only pop star who has appropriated more than Gwen is Madonna.

  • newleaf1

Love her, she is just so cool and uber chic, but this is just so ugly.  Blech.

  • stoprobbers

They are camo BONDAGE tracksuit pants!!!

Just to make T.Lo feel real fuckin’ old, I’d like to share that No Doubt in 1997 (Tragic Kingdom tour, bitches!) was my very first concert at the tender age of 13 and Gwen was TOTALLY my style idol. She was all ska!punk back then and the impetus for the purchase of not one, not two, but THREE pairs of bondage pants from Hot Topic. So instead of confused, I am unreasonably excited about the above outfit and also how she seems to have acquired a bondage JACKET to clip onto her bondage PANTS.

    GWEN I LOVE YOU STILL.

    • DeborahJozayt

I also love have she never has roots. EVER. It’s not fair!

      • http://profiles.google.com/ameliaheartsu Amelia Logan

she probably does her hair weekly.

my first concert was to see spice girls on their first and until recently only world tour.

      • stoprobbers

        UGH I KNOW LIKE SUPERWOMAN

      • http://twitter.com/Alloyjane Alloy Jane

Yeah, if you’re gonna bleach and you’re rich, stay on top of those roots.

        • ecallaw1977

I remember that she said in an interview that she is really anal about this and does her own touch-ups every week or two.  So you don’t have to be rich, you just have to be diligent!

          • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3KCDEX4FOTCFHZP6WLKSOOKUVM Danielle

Maybe she really uses Preference like in the commercials?  ;-)

  • http://twitter.com/MajorBedhead MajorBedhead

    Oh man, no. Just no.

  • nannypoo

I don’t like any of it. I also think her hair is over-bleached and I hate that red lipstick on her.

  • 3boysful

Hmmmm . . . which is worse–the camo suit, or the white sweats, running shoes and coat of the (presumably American) tourist behind her in the first photo . . . .

  • Deb_Lynn

Personally, I like the lady in the lavender quilted long coat sneakers, and helmet. I kid, i kid.

    • Imasewsure

Like the Gwen Stefani of Ork… alas, we never see ourselves as others do (but glad you pointed her out because I missed her the first time!)…

  • PrunellaV

She’s one of those people on whom even ridiculous things look good.

    • NC_Meg

Yea, this look is RIDIC but I don’t mind it as much as I should. I love Gwen.

      • RebeccaKW

I agree.  I don’t particularly like the look, but on Gwen, it does sort of work.

        • TieDye64

I know, right? Kinda crazy, but I love her.

  • fiestyfashionfem

I wish I were anywhere but here now – at least for two weeks – while the after-election crap hits the fan.  TLo – please help us through these next few days with lots of snarky, fabulous, fashion posts.  Please.  We need you.  You must see us through the post- election craziness safely.  This is our most desperate hour.  Help us TLo.  You’re our only hope.

    • NC_Meg

I wish I could like this more than once.

    • DeborahJozayt

/R2 D2 kicks wildly in approval.

We don’t even have cable TV or a landline and we can’t get away from the election coverage. Desperately want it to stop!

  • http://www.facebook.com/wesley.vanderwallen Wesley Vanderwallen

I’ll be honest, I don’t really understand the point of critiquing airport outfits – isn’t it like _the_ place where you’re allowed to look shitty?

    • http://twitter.com/Kikishua Kikishua

Ah, but this is a TRAIN station, not an airport – so I guess it’s open season!

      • http://www.facebook.com/wesley.vanderwallen Wesley Vanderwallen

I read tranny station and immediately felt the urge to go there

  • MilaXX

I kinda like the look. Granted I don’t think anyone but Gwen could wear it, but it works for me.

  • kimmeister

Uh, the shades continue to be nice.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Clydette-Wantland/673315286 Clydette Wantland

    We’re in the Army now.

  • BrooklynBomber

Egad. That jacket is cool, though.

  • Janet B

Does her jacket have a strap in the back?  I am imagining a jacket onsie….

    • TheDivineMissAnn

Took the words right out of my mouth!  It does look like a onsie.

  • granddelusion

LOVE the helmet/purple coat taking her picture!

    • DebbieLovesShoes

Yeah, don’t quite get why she needs to sport a helmet for such an occasion!!!

  • tsid2012

See, I am just on the opposite page!  Digging the camo/trackies/jumpsuit thing but the weird down/tailcoat thing is just weird to me.  I don’t think it would be attractive with anything but the camo jumpsuit would be great paired with les clunky shoes and a lighter cropped jacket of somekind.  Maybe a denim bedazzled.  No, I’m serious….

  • UptownNippy

    Luv that jacket !

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=122613264 Carly Warnock

    That’s just plain old fug.

  • Allison Woods

    I don’t hate the sunglasses.

    That is all.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1241487378 Lauren Lynch Fox

I like the jacket with the tail and the Dr. Marten’s.

    • idgiepug

I spent a good part of the early to mid-1990s desperately seeking those Docs.  I had to settle for dark green boots because the oxbloods were too hard to find.  My feet were never as happy again as they were from 1992-1997.

      • http://profiles.google.com/awilsongirl Amy Wilson

I lusted over those Docs for a solid decade. And damn it, I am seriously considering buying a pair now that I am a grownup with my own shoe funds.

        • Snailstsichr

I lusted after a friend’s b&w rose toile-patterned Docs. 15 years later and I still wish I’d bought some. So, how many of us are going shopping for Docs this weekend?? :)

  • spooki C

What an awful outfit, she looks great from the neck up but that camo track suit needs to go back to the 1999 time capsule.

  • quiltrx

Is that a Hot Ginger Handler cousin behind her????

    • DebbieLovesShoes

I was just going to say that!

  • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

    God that’s awful.

  • PastryGoddess

Can we start a petition to get TLo invited to Paris fashion week?

I love her shoes and will cut all of you bitches for them

  • TieDye64

I want her shoes/boots. Everything else? No.

  • RzYoung

I wish I were in Paris right now too. When your book comes out, TLo, can’t you do a Carrie style book signing there?

    • http://www.tomandlorenzo.com/ Tom and Lorenzo

Can we leave the tortured Russian artist at home?

      • RzYoung

Yes but only if you promise to be Americans who fall in Dior

      • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

Baryshnikov? Happy to take him off your hands!

  • decormaven

Gotta love the woman in the purple puffy coat and motorcyle helmet snapping Gwen’s pic. This outfit doesn’t bother me too much, because Gwen can pull off almost any look. The cut of the coat, though, is confusing. What is the purpose of the straps in the back? Another thumbs-up on the boots. Smart choice for stomping the streets of Paris.

  • lalahartma

    Nice jacket!

  • Scott Isaacs

From one Stefani to another: another hot ginger handler! This cannot be a coincidence. Well played.

    • TheDivineMissAnn

Oh yes it is!  That man is mighty fine….

  • erinbinek

Call me crazy, but I kind of like this.

  • zbkat

Third picture down, I thought Marvin the Martian was taking a snapshot of Gwen.

  • guest2visits

I’m ok with this rocker-chic; except for the man shoes, which she almost makes work.
