Ewan McGregor in Vivienne Westwood

Posted on November 20, 2012

And now… deliciousness:

Ewan McGregor attends the premiere of ‘The Impossible’ in London in Vivienne Westwood.

Vivienne Westwood Fall 2012 Collection

Like a warm pumpkin pie with a scoop of vanilla Haagen Dazs on top.

Mmmmm. Pumpkin pie.

Gorgeous suit. There’s something a little odd going on with the buttons in his jacket there. Not sure what to think of that. They’re giving it more of a shape than it has on the runway, but we don’t quite get what that third button is supposed to do. Also: he’s the only manstar we can think of who can get away with wearing a scarf like that on the red carpet and not looking like a total tool. Also-also: we’d cut a bitch for those shoes.

His hair, eyes, and ability to grow a perfectly even beard continue to make us envious.

Woof.  With a Hamlet on top.

  • hillmad

My comment for every Ewan McGregor post: OH. MY. GOD.

  • Christine Poplau

    He is Mr. Wonderful.

  • Carla_Charlton

But the suit’s a tiny bit too tight, don’t you think?

    • gabbilevy

It looks like Ewan added that top button, which is why it’s both wonky and somewhat ill-fitting. The jacket on the model only has one button, and it’s lower.

  • LindsayGoon

Why does the model have tinsel in his hair and beard?  Did a Christmas tree barf on him?

    • gabbilevy

      Seriously, it’s terrifying.

    • Kayceed

I immediately thought frostbite, and looked down to his fingers to see if the poor dear was wearing gloves. Obviously not, so am uneager as to speculate what else might be lodged in the facial hair.

Was he part of the crew of Endurance?

  • Violina23

I have always found that man delicious… always have, and probably always will… the accent certainly doesn’t hurt! *happy sigh*

  • curiouserandcuriousest

The model is giving me the giggles.

Ewan, on the other hand … sigh …

  • That is a peculiar thing that happened with the jacket buttons, isn’t it?  I don’t love the thickness of the shoe soles, but overall its a great look.

    • curiouserandcuriousest

The two buttons seem deliberately asymmetrical. The third is inexplicable. But who’s going to stare at his buttons?

      • My sentiment exactly. It is odd they decided to go asymmetric with it, but it is Westwood.

      • kimmeister

It has the effect of looking like he buttoned the wrong buttons on a double breasted suit!

    •  Pretty sure they moved the buttons for him. The model’s jacket has them placed correctly – there’s too much overlap for Ewan (and that third button is not anywhere near where it needs to be).

      • Corsetmaker

If you follow the style dot com link under the model and go to Look 17 you see the jacket on the runway in a different fabric. That’s not the same jacket in the pic, just the fabric. The button placement is part of the design,

    • ecallaw1977

I think the button treatment is interesting, and there usually isn’t much interesting about men’s suit design.

  • Oze R.

I HAVE to convince my hubby to wear a foulard, he kinda resembles yummy Ewan in these photos (with quite a few pounds and years more, but I don’t care). Yum.

  • snevhead

Actually, I LURVE the jacket (if you couldn’t see that useless third nipple of a third button there). It’s neither double- nor single-breasted, kinda genius.
Plus, there’s a Ewan McGregor in there. What’s not to love.

  • G

Something is definitely off with me – I just don’t see get the fascination with him.

    • DebbieLovesShoes

      Boo.  Come ON!

    • Adriana_Paula

It helps to be a Celtophile.  Scotland may just not be your thing.

  • Janet B

    Love everything about this look.

Except for the odd button placement that makes the jacket look too tight.

  • call_me_schmeg

first of all: i love love love me some ewan. secondly: i think i just snorted water out of my nose with that westwood runway shot. brilliant!

  • tereliz

I love him unreservedly… but I don’t love what that jacket is doing to his torso and I can’t unsee that weird bottom button, or the way the fabric bunches around the top button. That said, I love the shoe choice with the pattern of this suit, and the fabric color really brings out his eyes.

Kind of a shame someone had to destroy that suit-coat, though.

  • GetMeToTheShore

I’ve had a crush on Ewan McGregor for 15 years, it just won’t go away.

    • dharmabum8

Join the happy, happy club, honey. Oh Ewan….

  • StellaZafella

Young Orsen Welles, I think it’s the scarf and the beard…and the eyes…oh crap.
I have those shoes…But I put dark green laces in them (best.shoes.ever.).
The window pane plaid I can get behind…or in front of – name your preference Ewan.

    Oh well, one can dream.

    • Stella … your comment made me smile. I’ve been crushing on the young Orson Welles ever since I saw Jane Eyre with Joan Fontaine. Nobody gets it, they think I’m weird when I insist he was once sexy as hell. It’s that voice too! There’s a scene where he’s striding around in some sort of padded, gold-buttoned smoking jacket thing, and I’m not ashamed to say I have a lurid sexual fantasy wherein I’m sad, frightened Jane and he’s barking around telling me what to do.

Back to topic, Ewan looks fab here, so much better than the model (who must have rushed in from the snow). I hope he keeps that beard for awhile. It really suits him.

  • He does grow a pretty nice beard.

  • Mismarker

Ewan looks amazing.  Rawr.  The runway model looks like he just flew in after summiting Mt. Everest.

  • mmc2315

I want to touch the fabric.  Gorgeous.  So, with a jacket with 3 buttons, what’s the rule?  Button only two?  The top two?  Or button all three?

    • tereliz

I think the rule for any amount of buttons is always, under penalty of fashion death, keep the bottom-most button undone. (edit, someone please feel free to correct me if I’m wrong, I’m curious, too) Only whilst standing, of course. All must be undone when seated. The actor who plays Roger Sterling on Mad Men is aces at undoing the button as he sits. Seriously, the man ought to teach a master class.

  • In_Stitches

That is one fabulous suit.  Interesting, but extremely flattering.

I don’t love the shoes.  Actually, I do, I’d just prefer them dressing up some jeans and an oxford, not with this high-impact suit.  They draw the eye a bit too much.

  • Tamara Hogan

A very odd cut on that coat – faux-double breasted? But he is made of awesome.

OMG, what’s up with the Abominable Snow Model?

  • I love how the hair is absolutely, meticulously perfect *except* (!) for that tiny, well placed strand, that falls right in the middle of his forehead, giving both balance and just enough scruffiness to make him look manly and real in his otherwise absolute perfection.

The man is a genius. And a delicious one at that. *sigh*

  • Maybe that’s the “extra” button?  You know, the one that’s supplied in case one falls off?  (Although they’re generally sewn on INSIDE the garment.)  Maybe it’s got a corresponding buttonhole on the underside of the jacket, so that you can surreptitiously button the jacket at the bottom, leave the top ones open, and still not flap in the breeze?

I do agree the button placement is odd, but it must be intentional, otherwise the plaid would not be so perfectly matched.

I can’t believe I’ve just spent this many words considering buttons on a man’s suit jacket!

The model shot is SO funny.  It reminds me of that scene in “Miracle on 34th Street” when Kris Kringle blows a bubble with his gum, it pops, and his beard gets covered in sticky residue.

    •  Just occurred to me: maybe the jacket looks funny because he was cold, so he flipped up the lapel and made it button higher.  If his right side lapel were folded the way it appears on the model, it could conceivably cover an additional button for just this purpose.  I’m thinking London at the end of November is probably fairly brisk in temperature.

      • l_c_ann

I think you’re right about buttoning the additional button.  As I gazed (sigh) at the tailoring a bit longer, the huge size of the pockethandkerchef pocket caught my attention.  Most of that is hidden on the runway model because the lapel covers half of it.

    • Sara LaBatt

Good call on the plaid lining up, it really does.  Odd because it doesn’t really look like the jacket was designed to button there otherwise. I love the pattern and Ewan is Ewan so it’s all awesome.  But I do find that button awkward.

  • Can do NO wrong!

  • MilaXX

I could look at this post all day.

  • f_yeah_marie

I totally agree regarding the scarf.  Not many men can pull it off and unsurprisingly, Ewan is one of them.

  • A Proper McGregoring.

  • FrayedMachine

My oh my does that man age like a fine wine.

  • Sweet Jesus, YES.

    • Melvis Velour

Say it sister!  I just, like, totally died when I saw that closeup of him…

  • jw_ny

Love the shoes, and love the plaid.  He looks so handsome…per usual.

Kind of dislike the overall cut of the suit tho.  That top button is pulling the fabric oddly across his chest and making it look too tight; his pants seem to be weirdly draping at his thigh; and the sleeves are a bit too long.

  • decormaven

Can this man please do an RC a day just so the fellas can see how it ought to be done? Great look, H2T.

  • DebbieLovesShoes

“Also-also: we’d cut a bitch for those shoes.”

Oh, TLo — you make me happy.
P.S. What’s up with the Abominable Snowman Model?  How anybody thought that would be attractive is beyond me.

    • ojosazules

He looks like he just pulled his head out of a toilet.

      • DebbieLovesShoes

Ew.  Wow.  My toes are curling.

        • ojosazules

  • filmcricket

The buttons do kind of bother me, but damn does he look good otherwise. I like him bearded, he can stay that way forever, as far as I’m concerned. Sigh.

  • Excellent way to start the day. Thanks boys!

  • mjude

    adore him!

  • Vanja

PHWOAR! He’s looking fine. Also with the perfect plaid gift wrapping that I would love to unwrap come Christmas morning.

  • He’s got the Obi-Wan beard going. Ohhh… ‘Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi! You’re my only hope!’ Rowr@Mismarker:disqus
    Yes. He made Obi-Wan hot.

  • I am not normally a fan of facial hair, but…YES PLEASE.

(To Ewan, of course, not that model who has god knows what in HIS facial hair.)

  • Iroqhard

Oh I would so snuggle my nose in that beard. Mmmmm.

  • B_C_J

The placement of the buttons on the jacket is a bit avant garde but then again, this is Vivienne Westwood. It looks fantastic. The suit fabric and the tailoring are magnificent.  I wish I owned the whole outfit top to bottom.

  • LE SIGH. I do LOVE me some Ewan McGregor. And I also love the print on the suit. He’s also the only guy who could get away with a scarf on the red carpet.

  • GorgeousThings

    Mmmmmmm… le sigh…

  • Nicely done.

  • Love the suit. He looks better than the model, although that’s not hard, considering the cray-cray styling. The ginger hair, the beard, the one perfect stray hair – gah, I’m dead now. And I think he’s performing his Jedi mind tricks with those eyes.

    I’ll be in my bunk…

  • Joyce VG

  • McGregor is indeed stunning – but the shot of the suit on the runway model made me spit coffee all over my computer screen, and I’m still laughing at the WTF styling!

  • another_laura

Whoever dresses and grooms this man deserves his or her very own Lifetime Achievement Award.

  • warnerave

    great look!!

  • Puck Thornton

Good God, he is a supreme specimen, isn’t he? He never fails to make me feel all warm inside.

  • Yeah, I’ve been noticing this odd nearly-double breasted suit jacket gaining some momentum (one-and-a-half breasted?) – but the buttons on this one are extra wonky (two buttons probably would have been enough, or just making the third button purely decorative). Is this a new style or an update of an older one? Also, did he adapt the lapels to be more like a shawl collar – you can’t see the lapels under the scarf but the silhouette looks like a suiting version of all those fabulous shawl-collar sweaters going around for men.
He looks good, but the scarf with the beard skews a little sea-captain for me, and while I love me a sea captain rustic look, it’s not totally right for this suit or the red carpet. But eh. He’s pretty.
I wish I could get a better view of that blue sweater underneath. It looks soft and pretty and oh-so-touchable.
He’s not really the type I lust for (too clean cut and sensitive and waspyish) but the combination of textures in the sweater, suit, and beard here makes me want to touch him. Mm.
But get rid of the scarf. I don’t like it one bit. If his neck tends to be cold I am perfectly cool with him rocking a sexy tactical turtleneck again.

    • l_c_ann

Extra wonky is right.  Across the home tailoring world, sewers are having a WTF moment.

(My take is that the tailor looked into his beautiful eyes and totally forgot where the buttons should go.)

  • MissMariRose

Looks like a drunk seamstress put the buttons on that jacket.

  • JuliaInBlack

*clicks “Add to Amazon Wish List” button*

  • briecee

    Well, HELLO there, eyecandy.

  • Kate4queen

    Mmmm. yummy all over.

  • LauraWL

This proves that beards can be hot. Sending a link to my husband now so he can consider buying a charcoal grey plaid suit. And similar shoes. And getting his hair cut like that. *swoon*

  • Wellworn

That is some wackadoodle styling on the runway version.  Sheesh!  EMcG looks gorgeous however.

  • Cautiously Pessimistic

Those buttons are making me all twitchy.

  • That third button makes the look! I love it – absolutely love the whole delectable dessert.

  • julnyes

Ewan is delicious – Always and Forever.

  • Sarah Thomas

As a younger man he never did much for me, but damn if he isn’t aging like fine Scotch.

    • cleverlady

or… Scot… which he is…and a damn fine one… aging well. Looking wonderful as always.
and… buttons, schmttons… who cares… he looks great in the plaid and the scarf… down to the fabulous brogues. GIrl envy of boy shoes!

  • Hannah Katz

That runway model is freaking me out with his Yettie-realness. If I saw him coming towards me-whether on the runway or in the woods on a winter night, I’d run for my life. After trying to steal his hipster glasses.

    • dharmabum8

Yettie realness is my new favorite phrase.

  • tereliz

Okay, I’ve figured it out. The wonky bottom button is the original button, the top one was added to give him more of a wasp waist, and the middle one had to be added because the top button is too high, and without another button fastened it will gape open.

Them’s some serious alterations to give a somewhat boxy jacket a tighter fit, but maybe he just loved that window-pane check to much to let it pass by unworn? I know I do!

  • snarkykitten

what is up with the model shot?? it looks like someone jizzed all over his face

  • MsALVA

I would hit that like a screen door in a hurricane. Oh yes.

  • Sigh…

  • Marian Humin

I think he’s a great looking guy but he always looks like a stuffed sausage to me. It looks as if the buttons were moved on that jacket to make it tighter…and it just looks off.

  • Trisha26

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

    So talented, so very gorgeous.

  • Corsetmaker

Buttons! – I’m not going to link it as it’ll screen my post then but if you click the link under the model for the full collection and look at the suit 2 before the above one (brown pinstripe) you’ll see the jacket shape. It’s look 17 made up in the fabric for look 19. It’s pretty clever cutting actually.
So enough with the daft suggestions about folk moving buttons LOL!

Oh yeah, and Ewan….  get yer wonky buttoned coat – you’ve pulled (thousands of times over) 😀

  • zbkat

The most beautiful boy in the world.

  • quiltrx

Smile, you gorgeous thing!  Mmm, he can do no wrong in my book.

And I’m terrified of the model. That is all.

  • ziarah

Glad he didn’t wear the fake snow, though.

  • *choir of angels*

  • It’s Ewan what can I say.  The model version made me hysterical, if you need a laugh follow the link and look at the whole runway show there are worse beards with icicles…

  • he looks amazing.  duh.

and the model causes unrest in me, i don’t like it.

  • jmorino08

ICICLE BEARD!!!!!!! Where is the icicle beard?

  • bluefish

    Thud!  Love.  Thud love.

  • kaycem

warm pumpkin pie with ice cream…?

  • librarygrrl64

    Sweet. Baby. Jesus. THANK YOU!

  • e jerry powell

Those slacks seem to fit Mr. Ewan quite well across the thighs, which makes me think all manner of naughty things.

  • guest2visits

Seriously Ewan; it’s like you know how damn handsome you are.  And thankyou.

  • His shoes are stealing the show. He looks great.

  • EG looks fantastic.  Runway model hair, however, looks like it’s full of cumcicles–and I REALLY wish I hadn’t thought of that.
