Evangeline Lilly at ‘The Hobbit’ Premiere

Posted on November 28, 2012

Our first reaction to these pics was a resounding “WHAT the…?”

Evangeline Lilly attends the world premiere of ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ in Wellington, New Zealand.

But that had more to do with her hair, which, we have to say, we really don’t like at all.  What’s with all the lady elves showing up at this premiere with supermarket trip hair? The dress is okay. It’s a pretty color and it’s got the sparkle she desperately needed to counteract that hair. We wish there was a bit more to it, from a visual interest perspective, but she’s resting her whole look on those killer gams of hers and that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

The shoes, however, are BEYOND hideous. BEYOND, kittens. If we were more dramatic types than we already are, we’d be weeping over them.

AHHH!!! Kate!! What did you do to your pretty hair?!?!

It’s not that she can’t rock shorter hair- she definitely has the face for it- but this cut (plus…color?….whatever you want to call the mess of a dye job going on) is not suited for her.

  • 3boysful

Her legs are great, but I’m sad for her that she’s grown hooves . . . .

    • Dhammadina

      My little pony.

      • 3boysful

    • Louise Bryan

These are at least sort of shoe shaped, unlike those McQueen hooves from a coupla years ago.

  • those shoes are so grotesque they could be from mcqueens “sea creature” collection. except, those were actually fabulous.

  • Judy_J

I can’t imagine why anyone in their right mind would put those shoes on their feet, much less wear them in public.  My brow is seriously furrowed over this conundrum, and I really can’t afford the wrinkles.

  • Sobaika

This is horrific. The hair, the makeup the jewelry, the shoes, the HAIR. I hope it’s for a role or something.

I never really liked Kate, or her for that matter. Feeling vindicated.

    • The role of present day Jane Fonda, as interpreted by the Lifetime make up team behind “Liz and Dick”

  • Mazenderan

The dress is too short and her hair looks sticky.

I absolutely loathe the dreadful shoes – colour and shape.  These things look tacky and I can’t wait until the trend goes away.

  • VioletFem

I like the hair. It’s less boring than what she had before. Although, this cut would look better if she toned down the highlighting in the front.

  • Can we please talk about the lipstick, which is

a.) Freakishly similar to the color of her earrings, and
b.) Combining with the hair to age her?

I miss the Evangeline Lilly of yesteryear.

  • FrayedMachine

I seriously gasped when I saw those shoes. Holy wow do those things look like they’re as heavy as bricks.

also, I kind of dig her with the short hair. Could do with less obnoxiously placed highlights but the cut in and of itself isn’t -terrible-. It could just use some work.

    • Go!

“Holy wow do those things look like they’re as heavy as bricks.”
…and it was long red carpet walk at the premiere in Wellington, New Zealand.

  • MitchellGilburne

I kind of like it in a comedic way…reminds me of Sharon Needles’ old lady drag

  • My word. I just dyed my hair to get rid of bangs that look like that in the morning.

  • Take that crappy look back to the island, Kate! Jesus, those shoes make baby pole dancers weep.

  • BeeBeauNYC

Nice haircut, just bad color choice. It adds 10 years to her – not good! Even going Katy Perry blue would have been better than this choice.

  • schadenfreudelicious

is she playing some kind of female centaur in the film, that would be the only explaination for those gawd awful hooves on her feet…

  • Those are the ugliest shoes I have ever seen in my life. And, let me tell you, I’ve seen some really ugly shoes.

  • ojosazules

Amazing legs and you have to concentrate to look at them between the SHOES and the HAIR.

  • mjude

i can tolorate the new hair but i can not tolorate the short ass dress & boring ugly color shoes.

  • cam_lo

That hair makes her look at least 15 years older than she is. Also, actual WTF, she had like the best hair ever.

  • MoHub

Whatever you do, girl, don’t bend over. Not only will the dress hike up embarrassingly in the back, but the shoes will make you pitch forward and faceplant the ground.

  • Joyce VG

The shoes are RIDIC! She’s kind of a hot mess overall.

  • decormaven

Is she the missing member of a-ha? What the heck is up with that hair? And those putty pumps… ack, ack!

    • rc h

Back in the 80s because none of them look like that now! They look like albeit youthful, normal 50 years old in a suit.

  • Jennifer Hofstetter

So is she not with Merry/CHARLIIIIEEEEEE anymore? Awkward.

    • turtleemily

IIRC, they broke up before he was killed off.

  • neofashionista

to me this is a girl thats not ur dress she should send it to J aniston and where something much more attractive to suit the beauty that she is
and of course 86 the hair

  • I thought her hair was her “thing”. And why is she wearing a Bedazzled t-shirt dress to the Hobbit premiere?

  • filmcricket

Is it me, or does this all feel quite dated? Except for the blouson top to the dress, this seems about 2 years old in terms of style, and that’s leaving aside the Julianne Nicholson hair.

  • Violina23

    Oh, dimples, not cool!

  • stubbornthoughts

Lord I hope that hair is for a movie role. Otherwise, girl needs better friends.

  • ScarlettHarlot

“We have to go back. We have to go baaaaaaaaaaaaaaack….back to the salon!”

  • From the eyebrows to the ankles, it’s fine.

  • God, I’d kill for the hair she used to have.  Why do people screw with a good thing?  If she wanted a change there are far nicer things that could have been done.

  • dulcian

The shoe looks so dated and done to me… probably because I sing at a lot of weddings at an urban Catholic cathedral, and I swear at every one fully half the female guests are wearing some variation of this style.

  • DTLAFamilies

Why is she dressed like a Kardashian?

  • kimmeister

What!  Why would you dye just your bangs?  I could handle the style if it weren’t for the dye job.

Those are enviable gams though, wow.

  • Pants_are_a_must

What the hell did she do to her hair? Completely hideous.

That’s not a summery daytime premiere dress either. Way to get it wrong, hoof feet.

    • Aren’t they in New Zealand?  The seasons are reversed there, aren’t they?

      • Pants_are_a_must

That’s exactly my point. This is NOT a summery premiere dress, though it is summer there.

        • Man, my head is not in the game.  I totally misread your comment.  Apologies.

  • BrooklynBomber

With a dress that short, the super high heels look bad. Lower heels would look better. Actually, come to think of it, those shoes are just all wrong.

  • twocee

What is that THING sitting on the front of her head??  Why did she steal Satan’s shoes?  Why is she wearing a sequined sack cloth??  Why, why, why?

There is nothing about this that is even remotely sane.

  • Mary229

I don’t like the outfit but it’s lovely to see her again.  I’ve missed her pretty face.

  • Serving up JLo realness. Horrible shoes.

  • misskelley

damn, those are some nice legs.

and this ends my commentary, in the vein of “if you can’t say something nice….”

  • That’s a lot of leg-look.  Hate the blonde patch but like the short hair.

  • Trisha26

I wish there was more to the dress – length-wise. Her hair is cute.

  • formerlyAnon

I like her cut, but the color contrast is over-done, IMO.  Dress is fine, cute, whatever. Shoes are SUCH a missed opportunity to wear something cute. Also, I think a platform pump with sky high stiletto heel is really ugly when it’s all the same color.

  • kschwarting

I seriously would not have recognized her if there wasn’t a name attached to this post.  WTF with that hair…and those bloody shoes?

  • I’m going to show my age here, but isn’t it a bit gauche to wear sparkly clothes for daytime events?

Those shoes make her foot look bigger than her head. Which is quite an accomplishment with those overly aggressive bangs.

  • Tamara Hogan

    Whoa, Minnie Mouse shoes.

  • PrunellaV

I never thought I’d say that Evangeline Lilly looks like a 50-year-old streetwalker.

  • TieDye64

As if the haircut wasn’t bad enough, whoever colored that mess should be slapped. Repeatedly.

  • Is she dating the pig farmer from Ballykissangel? He’s a fine, fine man and that’s all I’m going to say about this.

  • Man, I hate shoes like that. HATE.

  • allyc

At first glance I thought it was Linda Evangelista after a long night and a bad dye job.

  • teensmom99

When I saw those shoes I thought that it was almost as if she (and worse her stylists) don’t read TLo.  That’s can’t be the case so what’s up with these shoes?

  • DCSheehan

I live, like 10 minutes from where this took place. If I’d known she was going to dress this bad I would have gone down and thrown poo at her until she ran inside. Some things are too ugly for daylight and those shoes are too ugly.

    •  Thank you for making me laugh through my tears.

  • Zippypie

I audiably hissed when I saw the whole look.  Ugh.  That hair! Those shoes! The huge sack fit of that dress!  *shudder*

  • SpillinTea

Who knew Keri Hilson had a fierce white sista. lol

  • quiltrx

    Those shoes are kinda terrifying.

  • librarygrrl64

I like her hair cut (speaks the woman with long-ish naturally curly hair who will be getting most of it cut off in a few weeks; don’t scare me out of it!), but I guess it could have been styled a bit more. Boring gyno dress. Shoes like flesh-colored anvils!!!! They look like they weigh more than my car.

  • Call me Bee

Oh no.  What happened to the lovely Kate?

  • snevhead

Can I say it again, maybe a belt? Also, lose the hooves.
As regards the hair, if they have stylists with them, then no excuse. But if they were dependent on what Wellington had to offer, then I’ll cut her some slack. I love NZ (my family are from there), but I don’t remember Wellington as being particularly high-fashion.

  • H3ff

She looks a bit Milla Jovjkhfghhkjvich in these shots. She used to have her hair like that.

  • The hair makes her look a good ten years older than her 33 years. The shoes are an affront to the senses.

  • marilyn

Her hair looks as though it was done, and then rained on.   I think the dress is too short.  It goes too much towards Tacky-land.  It would have been chic if it had been full-lenghth.  I don’t care about her shoes. At least they don’t fight the dress.

  • Don’t hold back. Weep with me.

  • tereliz

Maybe she was just sick of being soooo gorgeous all the time. *eyeroll*

  • Jaime Lawton

Does anyone else look at these pics and immediately see Courtney Cox circa “Scream 2”??

  • warnerave

    killer legs!!!

  • julnyes

I’ll just stick with the fact that she has amazing legs and leave the rest to be forgotten in the mists of time.

  • Even the straight guy in me can’t get past the hideousness of the shoes and haircut.

  • It looks like a wig.
    I really hope it’s a wig,
for the sake of her hair.

  • LeifBallard

Way too short and the Payless silly putty platforms need to GO!

  • turtleemily

Ugh, she’s in this? The bright spot of light ending was thinking I’d never have to watch her try to act anymore. They’re not letting her do interviews to promote the film, are they? I’d get embarrassed watching her do appearances for Lost.

  • MilaXX

Like the hair, hate the shoes

  • dharmabum8

What the frickety frack did she do to her beautiful head of curly hair? Awful, just awful.
