Too full on “Heidi” for me.

      • siriuslover

right, and not the one on PR.

    • Sobaika

I can not with the hair and someone needs to powder her nose.

      All else is adorable :)

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Lucía-Gavello/1253586868 Lucía Gavello

I agree, that headband is fab and deserves better hair. Her smile is the cutest :)

    • schadenfreudelicious

holy swiss miss, that’s not a good hairdo missy!

    • charlotte

Gretel got a new church outfit and is PUMPED.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_HIZ7S2FRLC52NXARXQ4ERHNOGE Liz

Gretel better give me her shoes.

    • halleygee

      That must be a T for Terrible….

    • http://www.facebook.com/cindyloohoo19 Cindy Bartlett Zigler

Almost feel like asking her where the lonely goat herder is….the blouse and skirt are nice, but too old for her.  Don’t get me started on the shoes…beige crocheted lace??  Ugh….

      • kschwarting

I can actually handle everything else, but the shoes are a total fail.

    • MilaXX

I don’t like the shoe with this, but I like that she still manages to look her age. Even the shiny face is somehow adorable.

      • kschwarting

I agree.  As a pink-cheeked blonde myself, I’m happy to see her embracing her natural face.  She’s still just a kid.

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Aw, Cindy Brady grew up to be a truck stop waitress.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1401197785 Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

Cute pieces individually, even the shoes. All together, with the hair? Too much Swiss Miss.

    • http://chibirobot.blogspot.com/ Wendy Ann

I really like her style.  This looks really put together and is totally her, but I don’t love it, not sure what it is.

    • BrooklynBomber

      I’m frightened.

    • http://kingderella.tumblr.com/ kingderella

i cant get over how fabulous those shoes are!
overall a good look, i think.

    • Kate4queen

I swear to god I had something like that in blue from Laura Ashley in the 80’s…

    • VeryClaire

No one is young and fresh enough to pull off this Swiss Miss look, not even Elle.  Without the hair, cute, but who can see past the hair?

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

      Oh honey no.

    • Annabelle Archer

      Sweet Heidi Hell!

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

      Oh, HEIDI, no.

    • ralish

This is a weird outfit, but if I were an adorable pre-teen with tons of free designer clothes, I’d want to play dress up sometimes too! Pretty dresses can wait another few years– bring on the costume!

      • In_Stitches

Exactly!  She’s not playing the game, she’s just having fun.  Why shouldn’t she?

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1594250515 Kim Brightman

        Except she’s not a pre-teen…she’s 14 1/2 years old.

        • http://www.flickr.com/photos/21151157@N00/ rawrgrowlrawr

Though not a pre-teen, she’s still a kid. I’d rather see a girl her age wear something like this than another trashy “I am fuckable now…right?” dress.

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Elaine-Lang/100000366510311 Elaine Lang

She is pretty much exactly my daughter’s age.   My fingers are in my ears….SHE’S STILL A BABY.    Uh, you, too, Malia Obama.   STOP REMINDING ME THAT MY DAUGHTER IS GROWING UP.      /old lady

        • http://twitter.com/starrika Ali

I wore my hair like this a few times at 14 – although with those butterfly hair clips that were so popular in the 90s, rather than Elle’s flowers. At 14, you’re still finding yourself and experimenting with what you like. It’s natural to be all over the map. I think this is adorable on her.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000393765005 Garcia Loca

It’s cute, but she needs to brush her hair.

    • DeborahJozayt

You are not Julie Andrews on the Muppet Show. Stop it this instant.

    • Kathy_Marlow

      first impression: MY EYES!!!

I’ll take everything except the shoes.

Honey, take this outfit and give it to Marion Cotillard….she needs to change out of the spider web raincoat she’s wearing.  Marion would look SUPER in this D&G!

    • Judy_J

Ginger, indeed!  She looks like Ginger Rogers in “The Major and the Minor”.

      • PeaceBang

I so love you forever for referencing that movie.

        • Judy_J

It’s one of my faves.  And I’m a huge fan of Ginger Rogers.

    • kikisayshi

      Umm… The skirt’s cute.

    • AuntieAnonny

I don’t think I’ve ever liked and hated the same pair of shoes so much before.

    • frannyprof

I would love to hear the TLo take on miss milkmaid secretary here.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1594250515 Kim Brightman

She looks like an overgrown seven year old with her scrubbed face and beauty pageant smile.  She scares me.

    • TheLaurenJean

      I NEED THOSE SHOES!!!!!!!

    • LesYeuxHiboux

It’s like she’s a stewardess for Hansel unt Gretel Air! I wish the hair wasn’t so straggly ans the blouse were less severe: shorter sleeves and a more crisp fabric, perhaps in a rich green to pull out the leaves in the headband and bring some color to her face. She’s adorable, all the same.

    • granddelusion

      What the hell?

    • A B

“May I recommend the Hasenpfeffer, ja?”

    • Deedles

Awwww… c’mon gentlemen! You should have also included the photo of Elle with Christina Hendricks in her dog-collar dress! That could have been your first post for “A Study in Contrasts!” Oh, and GIMME A “T!” is all I can think of when I look at this blouse and poodle skirt without the poodle.

    • http://twitter.com/didgerdoni tami t.

I would cheerfully cut you all for those shoes, but the blouse is taking me straight to Sesame Street:  http://youtu.be/ABaWlQgzh90

    • briecee

Did she do something to offend the letter T?  It’s large and dark and angry and about to eat her alive.

Otherwise, acceptable, but only because she’s young enough for her quirks to be cute instead of mistakes.

    • sweetlilvoice

Adorable, it’s nice to see someone on the red carpet looking happy.

    • alyce1213

It’s a bit Eva Braun-ish for me, if you know what I mean.

      • l_c_ann

        Ja, wir wissen.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/TOCYN56BHWH6IO4NRABWWZ7CII A

I like this outfit enough, but I would loooooveeee it on Marion Cotillard! I like the shoes too for some reason I don’t quite yet understand. Most importantly, Elle has got to do something about her hair color! It’s a very ugly and brassy yellow, this works for no one!!!

    • greymain

      shiny face MUST go…

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_F73LIJ3SJGI5AJQMXMWXCKILHI Pamela

      Headband is for a 7-yo.

    • l_c_ann

Inger Stephens, the war years when there was no face powder.

    • Tatiana Luján

I wish the skirt was shorter.

    • http://profiles.google.com/rociosaurio Rocío Vázquez

      Weird hair.
WHY IS SHE ALWAYS SO SHINY!!?! this is a recurrent issue with her.

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

Is it possible for something to be TOO cutesy for a 14-year-old?

    • MaryanneGirl

Yes, yes. Her aesthetic. Maybe I”m just crabby, but this whole outfit irritates me.

    • marilyn

Horrible.  This is couture?  It looks like high school square dancing attire.  How did she go from the sophisticated look yesterday to this?  She can be excused because she is young.  However, her stylist should know better.

    • CT14

      Just no.

    • DaveUWSNYC

      “Our Miss Brooks…The Early Years.”

    • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

      Serving up Mary Bell realness.

    • nannypoo

Poor kid. She shouldn’t have to go out looking like this. Every element is bad, with the hair and that silly headband at the top of the list. She’s a cute girl, but no one is cute enough to get away with an outfit like this.

    • RedRaven617

I really  thought this was a joke when I first saw the photo. Sorry, but ugh!

    • Michael Owens

      The worst—from head to toe.

    • Zippypie

Wow, she dressed as a pilgrim for Halloween.  How sweet.

    • JauntyJohn

As a wise old queen once told me, “Sometimes when you leave the house you’re wearing clothes.  Sometimes you’re wearing an outfit.  And sometimes… sometimes you’re wearing a costume.”
THAT is a costume. I like the silhouette (thanks, Spellcheck!) and in the Big Smile pic I think she looks adorable.
But those Fanning girls in general read a bit tightly wound to me.

    • altalinda

Well, that was good for a laugh.

    • Anathema_Device

She looks so damned happy in that getup that I can’t hate it. Well, yes, I guess I can hate it b/c I kind of do, but she is really selling the shit out of it.

    • everest19

      Oh, hunny….

    • SophieCollier

Something kind of Aryan about this look.

Edelweiss, edelweiss, every morning you greet me…..! la la la la

    • MightyMarshal

      Well she looks stupid.

    • SewingSiren

Awesome. I think this kid has a great stylish edge about her.

    • guest2visits

I think what she’s doing with her hair is cute; but other than her pretty face, this is just not working at all.
Not a flattering blouse – especially with the heavy cross-like bow.   (I thought Christina Hendricks when I saw this).
It’s just hanging off her, and the shoes are terrible; very cheap and old looking.
She looks like she’s working the dining room at the Bavarian Inn.

    • LambeeBaby

Dah? May I fill your schtein vis my some of my Oktoberfesht beir?

    • Mazenderan

She’s 14, seems happy and comfortable in the outfit, and isn’t plastered in make-up.  All fine by me.

    • PeaceBang

A very bad case of the cutes. Look away.

    • PeaceBang

When I saw the whiteboard image I could just envision a deranged stage mother in the wings shouting, “SMILE, BABY, SMILE!”

    • joancarol

She looks like a mental patient here.

    • quiltrx

“How do you solve a problem like Elle-Fan-ning?”

      Amish Heidi.

    • http://profiles.google.com/rosatcollege Ros Clarke

They hired her to wait tables?

    • julnyes

Is it that they want her to look “dewy” because that connotes youth and are adding dewiness to her already young face, but it just turns into shiny in the glare of the lights?

    • Qitkat

I dislike the blouse, a lot. She has beautiful skin, but it’s a bit too pink and shiny. Hair is cute, for a little girl. She is still so very young, and occasionally missteps, like here. But it’s going to be interesting to see how her looks and style changes as she matures, in 5 to 10 years she will still be lovely, and able to pull off edgier. However, I’m not even going to consider how my looks and style will change in the next 5 to 10 years. Yikes. LOL.

    • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

“Swiss Miss Instant Cocoa with Mini-Marsh-Malloooooows!”  Anyone remember that little jingle?

      • boweryboy

    • boweryboy

Why, oh why is her face so oily and shiny all the time?  A little powder compact with a mirror would do her wonders.

    • http://profiles.google.com/sauchih Sau-Chih Feng

      Ginger Rogers, more like.

    • Emily Wilson

I adore the shoes, but she looks like like a nun-in-training from Austria

    • http://remedialstitcher.blogspot.com/ Sara Leigh Merrey

The hair is horrible. Just horrible. The rest is okay.

    • MzzPants

    • librarygrrl64

On anyone else, I would hate this. But except for the shoes and the messy hair, she looks adorable.
