That is some tragic hair. Cute dress, though. I like the sassy suspender action on the runway version, but that might look silly in real life.

    • LesYeuxHiboux

I feel like Dakota is still young enough to have pulled off the suspenders, would have been fun to see her try! Sass is definitely more attainable for her than edge.

      • bellafigura1

Completely agree — the suspender thingy might have been just the thing to turn this from meh to wowz.

        • The suspenders, and the dress as originally designed, would have worked better for her.  She seems painfully uncomfortable in a strapless dress, and, as she’s wearing it, it’s just a pretty generic cocktail dress.

  • Sobaika

She looks a bit unfinished. A good start would have been wearing some makeup.

    • Mismarker

Yes.  This is exactly what I look like when I wake up.  Which is to say, shitty.  She’s clearly wearing mascara.  Why not take the extra minute to do some blush, powder, and lipgloss?

      • Kristin McNamara

For me, it’s the lack of eyeliner! Which isn’t to say that she has to cake it on a la Lea Michele or KStew, but she could use SOME! Her eyelids/lashes are just blending right into the rest of her face.

    • Freyja Canidae

YESSS she needs some brow powder, ASAP. her eyes would pop SO much more and she’d look more polished. her light brows worked with her blonde hair, but they are NOT working with her new color, which i think has the potential to look GREAT.

  • The hair is too Cold Mountain for me, but the dress is boringly cute.

    • 3boysful

You described exactly what I was thinking.

Also, is she allergic to face powder?  She’s always shiny.

      • mshesterp

        maybe it’s a Fanning trait?

  • damn Dakota, what happened?

  • Allyson Wells

Cute dress and accessories, bad hair and (lack of) makeup.

  • hair is not looking good here. probably for the best that she left the suspenders off but I think this would have been much cuter if she hadn’t gone strapless with it

  • FrayedMachine

The dress is insanely cute on her but wow, she looks so uncomfortable.

  • hughman

Ai-yi-yi. This is like a mugshot for “Drunk Bridesmaid who Fell In the Pool”.

  • Oh man. POSTURE. Shoulders down! Shoulders! Down!

    • 3boysful

You’re not really anna j, are you?  You’re my mom!!

(And now I’m old enough to agree with that advice.)

    • DeborahJozayt

We need a posture medic stat!

  • j_anson

Cute enough. She still hasn’t figured out makeup for brunettes.

    • MilaXX

she never figured out makeup for blondes either.

  • LesYeuxHiboux

This is not a great shape for her, and it needs some jewelry. Shortening the peplum would help, as she’s rather straight through the body and it would add some contour to emphasize how fit she is. The hair is tragic. That’s third shift at the McDonald’s drive-thru hair. All she needs is a corporate issue trucker cap.

The color is divine, though. Really makes her eyes pop.

  • Katherine Hurt

the dress is phenomenal on her but i hate the dye job/hair style here…her lack of makeup isn’t helping either

  • aumerle

Her posture is always hideous and it brings anything she wears down. Stop scrunching up your shoulders!!

  • eowyn_of_rohan

I’m at the point where the use of peplum on every last thing is reflexively making me dislike any look that incorporates it.  Though this is better than the runway peplum+suspenders combo.

  • Without the holsters and gloves, it’s really just a pretty party dress. And there’s nothing wrong with that.

  • MilaXX

Not you dress. I prefer the models version with the black straps, but I don’t think Dakota is the one to carry that off.  It also makes no difference if you color your hair when you do noting with it. Hate the bag with the look. She is in desperate need of some lipstick.

  • ehn.  she looks like any other teenage girl trying to look like a grown-up at a party: ordinary. the runway version of the dress at least had some edge to it.

  • Isana Leshchinskaya

more makeup, actual hairstyle, and STOP SLOUCHING

  • Judy_J

I like the non-strapless version better.

  • The hair and the slouch reminded me of Marla in A League of Their Own, who is a character you NEVER want to remind someone of.

  • VeryClaire

She made the dress boring. Isn’t she cold?

  • great color, poor hairstyle choice.

  • She looks like she forgot she had a premiere today and just threw on whatever was closest. Didn’t both with jewelry, make-up or hair.

  • Imasewsure

I actually like the fact that the Fanning girls don’t seem to go for makeup in any major way. Hair would have been ok if she had zhushed the rest of the outfit up… I find more fault with the boring shoes

  • alyce1213

The runway version is so much better.  This is just a mousy little look, head to toe.

    • Lilak

Indeed.  The original dress had some snap, fabric notwithstanding.

Why choose something so promising and then … discombobulate and recombobulate the design (sorry, Miss D, but substituting a studded belt doesn’t make up for it), not bother with your face and hair, and get lazy with the shoes.

Come on, girl, have some fun with this stuff!

  • LadyCelia

Dress looks like it was made from upholstery fabric salvaged from a 1956 Dodge LaFemme.

  • decormaven

That’s a RC-worthy look? Hardly. Looks like it was slapped together after finishing a shift at the five and dime. If there was a stylist for this look, somebody needs to go back into apprenticeship. You clearly have missed the mark.

  • tereliz

Cute dress! Looks great with her new hair color. Really brings some color into her face.

  • l_c_ann

    Sad and a bit depressing.

    That purse is getting overused.

  • B_C_J

boring, mousy dress. boring mousy hair. This young woman needs a stylist.

  • Sara__B

The center-part scraggly hair is so awful that it doesn’t matter what she’s wearing. If I were Jason Wu, I’d never loan her another gown.

  • claudemtl777

I didn’t want to say it about the last pictures of her that were discussed, because the dress was outstanding…But the brown hair creeps me out. She doesn’t look all that happy with it either…
9 times out of 10, a peplum will say Alexis Carrington to me…

  • Dot

I feel greasy just looking at her hair. Ick.

  • nannypoo

I like the hair color but I don’t like the stringy bits around her face. I would like to see a little more color in her lipstick.  I don’t love the dress but it’s cute on her and the color, which I don’t like at all, seems to work for her. Overall, I would say I prefer this new non-ghostly Dakota over the old washed out version.

  • Needs more color on her face. She looks deathly. Otherwise, the look is cute.

  • What happened? Boring dress, bad hair, 80’s color.  Did she get separated from her stylist? She needs to ask the nice police officer to help her find him.

  • Cute dress. The hair is rather boring, and she could have stood to wear SOME makeup. Powder, a little lip gloss or something?

  • PeaceBang

Love it on the model. On Miss Fanning, not so much. Missing the sassy little Weimar Republic suspenders, which keep the pink and peplum from being too cupcakeish. Horrid hair, Dakota. And where’s your lipstick?

  • librarygrrl64

Hair looks awful. With that color, she needs to up her hair game a bit to avoid looking frumpy. Cute outfit, though.

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

Really cute dress, and I like her belt better than the model’s. Hair and makeup are very, very sad.

  • neofashionista

    I love this
She really is the Hotter fanning
    good for her

  • DesertDweller79

If peplum is officially back in, can sheer over granny panties be officially out?  I hate both, but at least the former isn’t tacky looking.

  • Trisha26

She looks like a scared, cold child dressed in her mom’s clothes. And that hair…

  • quiltrx

I like the runway version much better, and I think she would have killed it.

And honey?  Enough with the beggar-lady-in-a-period-film hair.  The new color isn’t going to burst into flames if you put a curling iron to it!

  • TieDye64

    Why the limp curtain hair?

  • Jackie4g

The dress is fine, it’s cute, it’s not going to offend anyone, nor will it inspire anyone. She’s an adorable girl. I would have liked a more polished hairdo.

  • guest2visits

I like the model’s version tons more.  Still liking the color change for her hair; just should’ve been styled abit better.

  • Vainte

I swear she’s not comfortable with the new hair color, she had the same or worse posture issues at the Twilight RC. It’s not like she hasn’t done this before.

  • teensmom99

What can I say?  I like it.

  • thelovelydove

Cute look, awful hair and makeup.

  • afabulous50

She looks like Marla in “A League of Their Own.”

  • plinkiedoodle

Ouch.  She looks hung over and cheap.

  • Dan Kramer

As close to a WERQ as girl’s gonna get. Admittedly, I think she looks good. Not quite as vampiric as usual.

  • Bwin51

Fascinating how this peplum has a slimming effect when placed at the widest part of the hip. Good design.

  • she is so beautiful in anything at all she wears….she can put on a flour sack and make it look great….she’s the perfect woman…beautiful smart funny and extremely talented

  • Ellie

Why is everyone at the girl for not wearing enough makeup? I commend her for not caking on a whole mess of powder or foundation just to please a bunch of people with cameras. When did people stop appreciating natural, normal beauty? She looks beautiful.
