Dakota Fanning for InStyle UK Magazine

Posted on November 06, 2012

Our little girl is all grown up, kittens. Sniff.

Dakota Fanning covers the December 2012 issue of InStyle magazine photographed by Karen Collins.

We bet Chloe Moretz and Hailee Steinfeld are SEETHING over that “Hollywood’s youngest star” blurb; not to mention her own sister. We foresee lifelong rivalries in the “Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?” mold.

On dating and being single: “You know, I’m not the kind of girl or person who really wants boyfriends in my life. I’m also the kind of person…I’m very black and white in what I feel and I don’t wanna be with someone that I don’t foresee spending a long time with.”

On staying sane: “Why have I been able to stay sane in a sometimes insane world? The pure love of what I do. Making movies.”

Chanel Resort 2013 Collection/Model: Georgia Hilmer (NEXT)

Roberto Cavalli Fall 2012 Collection/Model: Carolina Thaler

She looks beautiful in both looks, but we think it’s kind of funny how often stylists for magazines default to the ultra-feminine, virginal, princess-y looks for her. Sure, her looks practically beg for that kind of style, but it’s clear from the way she dresses when she’s on her own that it’s not her thing at all. The Cavalli look has a little more edge than the Chanel, though; which must be why we like it so much more on her. Love the cat ears.

Once again they couldn’t leave well enough alone – I swear they did a little photoshopping on her cover photo… she’s fab and doesn’t need to look so plastic.

A little? Her eyes look like doll’s eyes.

    • christinewithanx

Is it just airbrushing? I hope she didn’t do anything to herself, ugh, these girls…

Her hair looks so beautiful here!

    • Kristin McNamara

      She got her roots dyed!!!

  • Kathy_Marlow

Love the pic with the cat ears, that looks like “her”

  • decormaven

Great styling in both shots. Wish the Cavalli jacket had been included; she would have carried it well.

  • hughman

Cat ear hats again?! PLEASE MAKE CAT EARS A THING!!

  • J. Preposterice

…you know, mags keep talking about how grown up she is, and then styling her all innocent-little-girl.  It gives me whiplash.

  • kimmeister

Dakota, you look fantastic with a little mascara and eyeliner.  Please consider adding them to your red carpet prep routine.

    • NC_Meg

Yes! Mascara and eyeliner are your friends.

  • bionicgyal1

Maybe since the princessy-virginal look is not her thing at all that that’s why she’s always in these mags with that schtick.

  • charlotte

She finally looks different and yet the same. Is it weird to say that? I guess she just looks more like an adult than usually.

I love the cover pic! Love Dakota!

  • MilaXX

Dakita looks great but that first model looks all kinds of insane.

    • Qitkat

As did most of the models in that show. But it must have been spectacular, as it was filmed in the gardens at Versailles.

  • e jerry powell

Damn, she looks like an adult.  What the fuck?

  • Anastasia_B

Anyone else see Paris Hilton in that cover image? Not that I want to see Paris Hilton in it, but I do.

    • out for a walk

I think it’s the pose, or at least mostly the pose.

  • granddelusion

Making movies is the least sane thing in the world.

She sounds so sensible, bless! And not a lollypop or heart-shaped sunglasses to be seen, although I thought it was going that way with the hair-twiddling.

  • Qitkat

I think she’s a very talented actor and a lovely young woman, but I just don’t feel her as a model. I do dig the cat ears though.

Because of the Fug Girls, I will always think of her as Dakota Fanbelt. But she’s fabulous and looks gorgeous here – and that Cavalli is eye-catching, cute, and a little sexy in an age-appropriate way.

    Mee-OW!  Love that Cavalli!

  • TSkot

I can’t help but see a young Sharon Tate.

  • zenobar

She looks like Blonde Natalie Portman in that last photo.

  • quiltrx

This is like the best her hair has EVER looked.  She needs to get this person ‘on staff’, pronto.

  • J MN

Please – a little lip color, just a little.  The nude, no color look just washes everybody out.  And the open mouth pouty look.  Be gone!

  • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

LOVE the Cavalli look, and she looks great, overall.

  • Nicholas

Yeah, I got a “stylized Terry Richardson” vibe from this, too. The amount of airbrushing is also ridiculous—even Richardson isn’t that crazy.

She sounds like a doll, though.

  • mike__tv

She looks great when she DOES HER HAIR!

  • http://twitter.com/Nancer Nancer

Pretty. She looks like a little girl playing dress-up! Which, I guess, she is.

  • aristida_girl

man, they grow up so fast! she looks great in the chanel, and those kitty ears are to die for…

  • http://www.facebook.com/AdriannaGrezak Adrianna Grężak

She instantly looks like a woman in the Roberto Cavalli look

  • Little_Olive

She makes that Chanel really come to like -on the model it’s a disgrace. Love the styling.

It’s not her fault but I find it weird when young stars define themselves in such definitive ways. Then again, who didn’t think the had it ALL FIGURED OUT at that age?.

Meh. She looks washed-out and vapid.
