Cate Blanchett in Sydney

Posted on November 16, 2012

Miss Cate looks all kinds of badass here:

Cate Blanchett lands at Kingsford Smith International Airport in Sydney, Australia carrying a Belstaff bag.

Belstaff ‘Dorchester’ Handbag

Not seen in these pictures: The part where she shoved people out of the way, yelling “GET DOWN!” as she pulled out a gun and fired on the dubiously ethnic terrorists whose bomb she just defused, then pulling a man one-handed off his motorcycle, hopping on, and giving chase as they attempt to flee the scene, her hair whipping wildly around her, her makeup flawless, her lips moist.

Fashion is so much more fun when you use it to make up stories, don’t you find?

In other news, who’s counting down the days until The Hobbit release? Besides us, that is.

I worship at the Church of Cate; she can do no wrong with me (unless she runs over puppies and bunnies or something).

      • Sobaika

        As do we all.

        • JosephLamour

I’m not even mad at the way she spells Cate, KHLOE.

          • Cate

I spell Cate that way! Actually she’s what I use as a defense when people bitch at me about it. “ARE YOU AS AWESOME AS CATE BLANCHETT? I didn’t think so.”

            • JosephLamour

Haha, I actually like the spelling. My best friend is named Carin, and I love that spelling too.

    • Fifi LaRoux

      39 and counting.

Also when I fly on Sunday I hope I look as cool and fabulous walking through the airports as she does.

    • Gabriella M

Screw the bag! How do I get my hands on THAT JACKET?
Fabulous action heroine chic always gains my approval.

      • decormaven

Yes! Who manufactures the jacket? Details, we need details, please.

      •ía-Gavello/1253586868 Lucía Gavello

Not to be cheeky but… MY PRECIOUSSSSS

        • Elizabeth

Ha, ha! Laughing out loud right here. I have a fantastic jacket with a hot pink collar that I refer to as “my precious.” It was one of those shopping moments where time stops and you MUST have. It is one of my most prized possessions. I don’t know if that makes me sick or fabulous? I’m going with fab.

        • bitchybitchybitchy

We wants it, yes we does. We must have the jacketses….

          • AnneElliot

I nearly did a spit-take when I read this.  Note to self:  no drinking alcoholic beverages whilst reading TLo Comments!

      • twocee

Word for word, that was my exact thought.  That jacket is killer.

    • Pants_are_a_must

QUEEN BLANCHETT!!! Looking totally awesome and badass and yet somehow casual! Gracing the pages of T&Lo! Oh, happy Friday!

(counting the days till The Hobbit. Counting. The. Days.)

    • Amy Wilson

      I need that coat. Immediately.

      • AuntHo

         What is it? anyone know?

    • stchoo

That description was just fantastic. Cate looks like she’s taking no prisoners.

    • holzfaellen

Smirking down the paparazzi is so much more fun when you’re dressed all black.

    • Bill Curtis

Oh, Boys, I do hope Diana Rigg has a cameo playing Cate’s mother in that action movie playing in your heads.  Emma Peel realness!

      • bitchybitchybitchy

That reminds me. If anyone ever gets it into their brains to attempt another Avengers, remake, how about casting Cate as Emma Peel’s daughter?

    • StellaZafella

Kick ass my Cate, my Bess, my Galadriel!

    • another_laura

Re: Hobbit, I and a couple of friends have already bought our tickets for a noon showing on opening day!

Oh, and Cate the Great looks fab, of course.

    • CeeQ

Me me me!! I can not wait for The Hobbit to come out!!!

      Also – love Cate =)

    • suzie

She also looks like she’s in her 20s.  I had to double back and confirm who she was.

    • Laura Schultz

Need to know who makes that jacket that I can’t afford too….

    • zuzu

I’m definitely looking forward to a little Smokin’ Hot Thorin Oakenshield.

      • twocee

It just boggles my brain to think of any of the dwarves as smokin’ hot.

I’m looking forward to a smokin’ hot Necromancer :)

        • zuzu

Well, I guess they needed an Aragorn analogue, so they took the most obvious heroic character and tarted him up.

It’s not Viggo, but I’ll take it.

          • twocee

            No one is Viggo.  Sigh.

    • twocee

Counting…counting….counting.  Also am in the middle of my umpteenth re-read of The Hobbit.

    • jennyv

Oh my god, I CANNOT WAIT for the Hobbit!! Every time I see the preview I squee like a little kid. :)

      • lalagigi

I did that at the Skyfall movie last weekend and embarrasssed my husband. I din’t care – I’m a hardcore LOTR fan!

    • IMNAngryLiberal

I join the League of Cate Adorers.  She looks completely kick-ass here!

    • Aaminah Khan

I have watched all the trailers multiple times, and squealed like a fangirl with each viewing. Can’t. Wait.

As for Cate, she is just spectacular. She’s my female RDJ – in my eyes, she can do no wrong, ever, at all.

    • MajorBedhead

      Man, she’s one fierce lady.

I will go see The Hobbit, but I must admit, I’m going to be looking for Sherlock and Moriarty at times. Martin Freeman has become too embedded as Watson in my brain.

      • snarkykitten

Due to a freak accident, Sherlock is transformed into a dragon. However, because of witness protection issues, he won’t show up until the final film :b

    • E_bee

How long was that flight she was on? How can she possibly look like that LANDING in effing Australia?

      • TigerLaverada

If she was flying in from LAX, it’s about 14 hrs, give or take. Most people stagger off the plane looking way worse than this. But then, I doubt Cate was in the sardine-pack coach section. First class has full reclining beds and ain’t bad, I hear. Plus she probably flew Qantas, which is far superior, in both service and comfort, to the US domestic airlines that go over there. IMO, of course, but I’ve flown them all.

    • Eileen Duffy

The Hobbit!   Oh, I am!  Been a Tolkien fanatic for, hmmmm… 34 years now. :)   Quel coiasira!

    • MilaXX

Not a Tolkien fan. Haven’t seen any of the movies.

      • Lilithcat

Read JRR’s Ring cycle back in high school, more years ago than I care to recall.  I now prefer Wagner’s.

    • random_poster

Count me in on the count-down to Hobbit!

    • Zippypie

Cate rocks.  Period.  The Hobbit – we’ll see if it’s LOTR Redux or if it stands on its own.  I’m so hoping for the latter.

    • Annabelle Archer

      I need, NEED, that bag!

    • Lani George

      DEFINITELY counting down the days!!!

    • Vera

      Love her jacket too.

    • poggi

      Me too!  Me too!

Also your scenario explains why she has the zipper top of her bag open–easy access to weaponry.  Although is she just got off a plane, she’d have to make a gun out of a brush, a ballpoint pen, and Tampax.

    • PeaceBang

She looks so amazing I just jumped up from my desk and flying high fived myself.

    • Lilithcat

To heck with the bag.  Who made the jacket?  Because I’m set to rip that right off her back.

who’s counting down the days until The Hobbit release?

Not I.  But you guys enjoy!

    • marilyn

She is much too pale to wear all that black.  She looks like she needs a blood transfusion.  if she is going to wear such a severe color, she needs to ramp up the makeup.

    • MzzPants

      Wow, TLo!  You’re on a fashion-fiction roll!

    • Antonia O’Connor Donnelly

Me!!! I’ve been counting down the months.  Oh, and Cate looks incredible, as usual.  I covet that bag!

    • Liana Brooks

I’m counting down!!! And playing the soundtrack endlessly. It’s streaming on and I’m madly in live with The Song Of The Lonely Mountain. <3

… um… clothes? Of course. Let's talk about clothes until The Hobbit arrives.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

I love, love TLo’s scenario…and yes, I’m counting the days til The Hobbit. I’m so ready to return to Middle Earth. In the meantime, thanks for the much needed dose of Cate fabulosity.

    • KathKo

Not looking forward for The Hobbit movie, actually.
The book is really childish and I’m afraid that, with the huge success the LOTR serie had, the Hobbit movie would be stripped of all the childish enchantment and just be a LOTR prequel.

    • fabulous

I also worship at the Church of Cate, and your description made me laugh because I always thought she’d be perfect as J.D. Robb’s Eve Dallas.

    • Meg P. W.

      Cate Blanchett: Airport Ninja.

    • TigerLaverada

Neil Finn RULES (Song of the Lonely Mountain).

      • AnneElliot

I LOVE Neil Finn, been crushing on them since the 90s when I saw Crowded House.

        • Vera

I love all things Finn and Crowded House.  Must check out that song.

    • Pamela

      Me want bag.  Now.  Please.

    • snarkykitten

Damn. Galadriel went dark. I like!

    • Louise Bryan

In other news, who’s counting down the days until The Hobbit release? Besides us, that is.

    • kmk05

I JUST BOUGHT MY TICKETS FOR IT!!!111!!! I might be ridiculously excited.

She looks fab here. I love every single piece! Relaxed and yet stylish.

    • AnneElliot

LOVE your scenario for Cate as a badass spy.  I’d love more fashion stories, please — in addition to all the Chloe Sevigny alters.

And we’re marathoning LOTR this weekend, in preparations for The Hobbit.

    • quiltrx

I love making up backstories for people, and their outfits. So yes, I totally know where you guys are coming from.

And this outfit is killa, and I will take that bag right now please and thank you.

    • Daenyx

I am counting days!  The dwarves’ singing in the trailer gives me chills every time I hear it, and quite aside from that, I’m going to the midnight showing with my (long-distance) girlfriend.  Can’t come soon enough!

Oh yeah, and Cate looks fucking fabulous here.

    • briecee

Well, she sure looks way the hell better than I have ever looked getting off a plane.

    • littlemissstrange

COUNTING THOSE DAYS! Been counting since I heard it was coming out. Will I go participate in the midnight madness? I don’t know. I’ve never done that for a movie…. mayhap this will be my first.

Also: trailer for the new Star Trek movie being released with this movie. If you needed another reason to be excited about it.

    • Vera

Just listened to The Song of the Lonely Mountain.  Neil Finn is one of my favorites.  Looking forward to the film.

    • lesmaha

Love Cate–I made the mistake of clicking through to see how much that fabulous bag costs….not in my budget!!

    • marlie

I want that jacket AND the bag. And ‘The Hobbit’!

    • julnyes

Love Cate and I am soooo excited for The Hobbit … and the next movie … and the extended DVDS of both!

    • MissMapp

THANK YOU for correctly using “defused” instead of the incorrect “diffused” I see everywhere else!

    • Sau-Chih Feng

What about that scene where some ignorant and misogynistic peon tries to grope her fabulous ass, only to find himself in a choke hold and a dislocated shoulder, while she barely breaks a sweat and walks away with a majestic hair flip into the sunset?

    • Bob Sponge

This makes me want to see her in a Bond movie. She will be a fierce M.

    • mmc2315

      That bag is drool-worthy!

    • PaperPusher2

On The Hobbit, I will be eagerly awaiting your commentary on Richard Armitage when the time comes. :) I don’t know if the Armitage fans (Armitage Army) are as insane as the Hiddleston fans but we’ll be coming out of the woodwork for sure.

    • GTrain

      Love huh, love that bag!
