Ashley Greene in Wes Gordon

Posted on November 15, 2012

We’ve always maintained that it shows questionable personal style when a celeb recreates a runway look exactly, but sometimes, you’ve just gotta go with what the designer intended.

Ashley Greene attends The Ninth Annual CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards in New York City in Wes Gordon.

Wes Gordon Spring 2013 Collection

We’re not in love with that top, but we’re sure of two things: You can’t stick a bra under it and you can’t really pair it with anything but those flared white pants. Black cropped pants just look wrong from a proportional perspective. The flare of the white pants mimics the flare in the sleeve cuffs and the white provides some balance against the dark lace.

Obviously, we’re not saying Ashley should have gone without a bra, but a flesh-colored lining would have been a better choice. We don’t even like flared pants all that much, but they’re clearly – to our eyes, at least – a better choice than the ones she’s wearing

…Oh, so TLo has plenty of material to work with.  Thanks, see-through-lace-wearing ladystars!

    • Jessica TallGirl Freeman

Is this her Pinterest version of KStews premire jumpsuit?

      • StellaZafella

Maybe this is the underwear for KStews jumpsuit?

      • Alloy Jane

We can only hope that it’s a parody of that look considering her normally lovely hair looks terrible and she’s wearing KStew make-up.

    • Monabel

In theory you are right, but, TLo, you are re-arranging deck chairs on the Titanic.

      • shirab

Must try to work that phrase into a conversation sometime today.

    • Ceur

That top is just ugly and unpractical. Still love her, but even her perfect midriff can’t save this one.

    • formerlyAnon

Has she no people? No mirrors?

She looks about 5 foot tall, and broader than proportional. Which, she’s not.

Even long, flared black pants would have been better.

    • ralish

Is the fabric industry staging a protest or something? Can these celebrities not afford fabric that provides actual coverage? I’m no prude, but geez. We’re going to need to start putting up NSFW labels on some of this stuff.

    • Vienna Marriott

Why would anyone want to wear sleeves that would get caught on rings?  Fugly.

      • Kiltdntiltd

Or make it functionally impossible to do anything whatever involving your hands?

        • KateShouldBeWorking

My first thought was “So how would you hold your drink while wearing that?”.

          • MajorBedhead

Shows you where my mind is…my first thought was “How do you go to the bathroom with sleeves like that?”

    • Puck Thornton

It just doesn’t work. The lace is beautiful but I don’t like the long sleeves and the black undergarment. And the darker colour of her tummy is distracting.

    • cooperalden

Was there some big desiger sale of samples no one wanted this week?  What terrible things you hve shown us….thanks!

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

What a waste of perfectly good black lace.

    • Mismarker

      Are her hands in mourning?

      • 3boysful

Can you imagine how annoying those ruffles are when you try to eat, drink, shake hands, run to the ladies’, etc.?

    • Kristin Hanson

I feel an irrational dislike for this outfit–way more hatred than any one particular outfit warrants.  I just cannot stand it.

    • rawrgrowlrawr

Um…her makeup is pretty? I like her nose?

      I tried.

    • In_Stitches

I love the look of bewilderment on the model.  She’s like, “so you want my underboob showing?  Okay, and my hands, they’re…oh, it’s supposed to be like this?  Alright”

    • Sobaika

I am okay with this, mostly. I just wish she’d eased up on something – less intense makeup, or maybe had the hair sleek and pulled back. As is, it’s all a little too much.

    • Tatiana Luján

The one thing anyone should don about that top is burning it.

      • snarkykitten

it looks like someone already has

    • Jill

That top is ugly to the extreme and makes her look thick waisted.  All these lace tops make me itch just looking at them.  I can’t wait for this trend to END.

    • Anathema_Device

Not a fan of either version, although I see what you mean about the light pants. You lose the pretty edging on the lace when it is against the black. This is just sort of blah to me for some reason.

    • nannypoo

I’m getting tired of celebrities making public appearances in their underwear. Apparently I have officially become an old codger. And get those kids off my lawn.

    • Eric Scheirer Stott

Why do designers keep sending transparent clothes down the runway if they know they can’t be worn in public?

      • MilaXX

Because some things are meant to be editorial and celes insist on trying to wear them in public anyway.

        • Eric Scheirer Stott

Celebs who want to be Edgy Bad Girls, but lack the Charisma, Uniqueness, Nerve & Talent to do it right.

    • dawnboo

And, apparently the top is pretty fragile too… There are two tears/snags in the front right by her belly button.  Does she still get to return it to the designer or do they make the stars pay for it if they damage the clothes?

    • StellaZafella

Send it back to Cher…it’s not finished.

    • Eric

It’s like she’s wearing a censored bar across her boobs!

    • MilaXX

it’s a truly hideous top, but even a flesh colored top would look bad. The best she could do would be flower shaped pasties that mimic the shape of the lace, or give this to Rhianna or Gaga who would have no problem wearing it like the model.

    • Vera L-

Makes me itchy just looking at it. ugh.

    • IMNAngryLiberal

This is kind of po-tA-toh, pa-tAH-toh for me in that I hate both looks equally.

    • Sweetvegan

Yeah, but without the bra, she would have an underboob problem. The model just has to stand there for a photo shoot, but without a bra, you can’t wear that in real life.

    • caitlincactus

this is unrelated, but i really miss fan bingbing. where did she go?!

    • Judy_J

…and to add insult to injury, there appears to be a couple of rips in the fabric in the center of the abdomen.

    • Kim Baker Vidas Davey-Irvin

flesh-colored lining for sure, and if not the white flared pants, at least SOMETHING flared and with enough contrast to show the bottom lines of the top, which get totally lost on black pants.

    • kimmeister

The model’s pants don’t look white on my monitor.  More like a very pale seafoam green.

    • Laylalola

It’s so strange — it’s like in a parallel universe she won the Bella role in Twilight. She’s like the less mopey, less edgy Kristen Stewart wearing very similar styles.

    • Aj/Melia

flesh colored bra and get rid of the hand drapes.

    • decormaven

Not working, not working, not working. And there’s a pick in the lace on the bodice which reads “cheap lace”, when we know it’s not. Plus her Pepto nails are peeking out from the wrist flounces.

    • alyce1213

      Make the see-through stop!

    • Candigirl1968

… or maybe she just should have told her stylist no.

    • Dot

This is quite possibly the stupidest top I’ve ever seen.

    • twocee

Please people, just STOP with the see through black lace.  It’s beyond tacky.

    • Elaine Lang

Honestly, I think the only acceptable answer was to forgo the top altogether.

    • jennyv

    • Ass Kicking Adviser

      Epic fail.

    • PeaceBang

The lace over the hands is not working.

    • librarygrrl64

Oh, no, NO. A lacy abomination.

    • MaryAtRealityTea

These twilight girls are having an off day.

    • DesertDweller79

TLo, I am with you. I am ready for the black lace top to be retired.

    • Trisha26

I actually don’t mind the black pants, it’s the rest that’s hilarious.

    • Sau-Chih Feng

Elvira sure looks good for her age.

    • guest2visits

Besides hating the long lace cuffs; I like the black under the top as opposed to a flesh shade that usually turns out tacky.
I could see it with long black flares or a longer slim black skirt.  Still classier than KStew’s Elvis underwear.

    • Ali Quirk

bra under that top = censor bar

    • The Dose of Reality

Hiddy! It looks like it’s ripping apart by her elbows and navel. BLERGH!

    • AnneElliot

I’ll forgive her, simply for NOT being Kristin Stewart, whom I detest.  At least she’s smiling, not sulky, AND she can act.

    • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

The lace looks torn near her navel.
