Anyone know what the deal is with the different-colored nails and the string bracelets?
The different colored nails been a thing for the past couple months. I like it and tried it a couple of times.
I like it better when the accent nail is gold.
See I can’t stand it because I get stuck looking at that one nail that’s out of place Like when at a restaurant and the server comes by with nails like this, I just stare at that one nail and can never appreciate the look as a whole. It’s like looking at that one nail in a manicure where the color is chipped; it’s just not supposed to be there!
I do it with a glittery accent nail.
I can see glittery, but it looks like she’s missing a fingernail.
nails are a “thing” now, no clue about the string
They’re a thing now? Huh. I did that when I was in eighth grade, spelling S-O-N-I-C Y-O-U-T-H on my nails, but I lost interest after that.
The accent nail has been a thing, but I’m over it already. Like when girls get acrylics and do that overly tacky flower design on the ring fingers.
Don’t know about the string bracelets. It’s kind of cute though. Also, her makeup looks great. So fresh.
I wonder if the bracelets are for a charity or cause?
That was my first thought. Though the event isn’t for a cause, and I feel like she’s most strongly identified with being a straight ally to the LGBTQ community and the bracelet doesn’t seem associated with that.
Anne should found her own LGBTQ charity called Let’s Give Bucks to Queens. I’d join it!
Does she have Buddhist leanings? I was given a string bracelet a lot like the red/white/black one she’s got when I spent a weekend at a Buddhist temple in Japan a few years back. (I have no idea if it symbolized anything or if it’s just that the abbot’s niece liked making them; he spoke no English and I speak no Japanese and the translating monk wasn’t around.)
When you attend certain Buddhist teachings you are given a string at the end, symbolizing the link you have developed with the teacher and the learning. These strings also have a knot that carries blessings for the person wearing it. These strings are worn in the wrist or around the neck, and many people use them for a long time regardless of the clothes or jewerly they wear. If this is the case with Annie (or if they are string bracelets made by a young relative), I find it very sweet to use them in the RC
Thank you! I always wondered about it, but never at a time when it was convenient to look for an answer.
those look exactly like the friendship bracelets i used to make in elementary school. i see a lot of people wearing them again. “real” people, that is.
One of the girls at my job just gave all of the teachers a friendship bracelet.
From a distance, it almost looks like she lost the tip of each ring finger in a horrible accident.
I don’t know how anyone stands the accent nail trend. It would drive me insane on my own hands. To each their own, I guess, but even considering that I’m not a fan of the colors she chose…
All I know is that my 16 year old sports the same look, regularly.
She looks lovely–although the string bracelets are incongruous and look like a kid sister of hers made them at camp . . .
Holy mackeral, please tell me what that means! Need to know, love.
I don’t think one off color nail counts as pinterest nails.
Close to Audrey to my eye.
Or Leslie Caron…
Liza Minelli for me. And those are some killa eyelash extension or fakes, or whatever. Her people must have talked to JLo’s people.
Love the dress, don’t get the bracelets or the one different coloured nail. That different coloured nail thing is everywhere. Why?
Love everything except the friendship bracelets and the shoes. She looks really pretty.
Love her in Victoia Beckham. VB makes really great dresses but they’re very fitted and sized quite small.
Are those Kabbala strings on her wrist?
I thought the Kabbala string was just a red string?
Fight Anne Hathaway backlash. She looks GREAT!
What’s with the one white nail on each hand? Is is it weird to like the whole look except for the hands? Between the middle school nails and bracelets, this is a great, sophisticated look. the shoes are a little hoof-y, but simple works with this dress.
Yes the “jewelry” and the nails (and the shoes) are horribly inappropriate and kind of silly but the dress is fabulous on her.
One of my kids has this little foam wheel that you can weave string bracelets on. Looks like Anne doesn’t have much talent in that area. And she needs a blue nail for the complete French flag cornball effect. Otherwise very very nice.
Love this. Full stop. (I can ignore the friendship bracelets for this reason)
This style looks very good on her. I like that she’s trying out things to see what works with her hair. I just wish the fit was a little better. There’s something off in the bust area. Maybe she’s not wearing a bra?
Interesting dress that she wears well, but she needs something to make the look “sing”. Maybe not black shoes? Maybe not string bracelets? Maybe a hat? (“Does ANYONE still wear a hat?”)
I’ll drink to that.
And one for Mahler.
And one for Mahler!
I think she looks lovely, even with her painful-looking chapped lips. False eyelashes done well, and she has just the right figure for Posh dresses.
Were I here stylist, I would have kicked it up a notch or three with some brilliant colored pumps. Those black ones are a tad bit heavy looking.
The breastplate looks weird.
Flawless from the eyes up.
Heaven forbid a celebrity wear some dressy jewelry with a dressy outfit. Where is Elizabeth Taylor’s ghost to slap some sense into these women? Also, the nail color fad. Take away the dress and add pajamas: she’s all set to play Mystery Date with the other teens.
Looking smug, with good reason.
She has such striking features and her makeup is breathtaking. Great dress too, but all the details are very sorely lacking. A friendship bracelet? Really? I hate the stupid novelty nail polish trend.
I have one string bracelet I always use, its not exactly meant to be a fashion statement just something I bought and liked, I honestly don’t know people who wear those bracelets and take them off like normal jewelry. Where I come from you tie a really tight knot and burn off the ends. I don’t think they make her look unpolished … they’re just damn string bracelets. The nails on the other hand… if you’re going to do an accent nail white is not the color to go with red.
There comes a point where attempting to follow trends is tacky as hell. Annie, by both age and fame grounds, you’ve reached it. That nail polish? Um, JUST NO.
it looks like she has a cold sore or something on her bottom lip…
Gorgeous!! Just gorgeous
(what’s with the string bracelets?)
I have problems with Anne Hathaway’s personality and thought process (see recent Vanity Fair article) but can’t deny she looks great here. The lashes are a bit much, though.
The little bracelets are my favorite part. Unexpected, cute, relaxed, make sense with the accent nail. I wish I could see the rings on her left hand a little better – they look like they might pick up the bracelet pattern a little.
Serious Liza eyelashes! Love the dress. The hair and string bracelets are TAF. (Twee as You-Know-What)
She looks great, the nails are very distracting.
I can’t believe that Posh Spice has emerged as a fashion brand to be reckoned with — and all with simple, back to basic designs that make a woman look good. wow, go figure. too bad i don’t have the budget to afford them. LOL.
Anne gets it right way more than not…good instincts. Vicki’s aesthetic works well on her…probably due to similar body types. Vicki generally designs for herself in mind…likes the slim & classic style, with a touch of modernity.
I think the neckline/straps/bodice are unflattering.
what happened to her lip?
(eta: and by that i mean it looks like she’s bleeding… did she have an on-set accident i’m too out of the loop to have heard about?)
Absolutely gorgeous. And then you get to the kabbalah bracelets. And the nail polish.
Love the dress – not so much the styling of it.
The shoes bug me, a lot.
Loved these eyelashes!
She looks fabulous
Forget the statement nail, it doesn’t even look like they* painted her nails completely. Look at the side of her thumb!
*let’s be honest, she’s not sitting at home in a fluffy pink bathrobe, gabbing to her bestie while she waits for nails to dry.
I have a friend who is doing her nails like that, on purpose: Color down the middle, almost covering all, but with a sliver of unpainted nail on each side of the color swipe.
This same friend also, on occasion, leaves her moons unpainted which my mother used to do 40 years ago.
Crazy nail ladies
Poor thing. Her head it just too small and her neck is just too long to make the pageboy bob thing work. She looks like a golf tee.
Those are some crazy whack false eyelashes! Like the dress. Needs better shoes.
This is the first time I have kind, sorta, liked her hair. She had me until the bracelets.
Looks like a WERQ to me.
This is the first time I’ve seen this length dress look really good on anyone, probably because she’s such a drink o’ water. I’m going to forgive the string bracelets because they were probably given to her by a young person who is meaningful to her. Also, that little gold ring is really cute. Her hair looks great. Perfect length for her.
LOVE the neckline and the Liza lashes are working for me with the growing out pixie cut, but I remain convinced that Pinterest nails are too informal for the RC.
Great dress, but step it up on the jewelry, please. Save those woven strand bracelets and simple rings when you’re out grabbing a coffee with your cute hubs. The accent nail manicure calls attention to the fingers, so let them be properly adorned. All I see is “my stylist doesn’t have the jewelry hookup.”
love her hair and makeup, very nice dress also! She looks perfect!
Fabulous except for the extremities. Dress is hot (though bodice looks a bit snug), hair and makeup are IMMACULATE, but at her ankles and wrists everything starts to go to hell.
The whole look is kind of perfect. Not so on board with the odd white nails, even though I do like to see some types of nail art.
Love the dress on her! I sort of hate the shoes, and they’re a missed opportunity for some color. The bracelets clearly don’t “go,” but I have to think that they have some sort of significance, otherwise she would have taken them off.
I really like the dress but I wish she’d worn more interesting shoes.
String bracelets remind me of [other people’s – they were waaaay after my time] middle school. Always.
Too long – if it hit the knee it would be perfect – and please get rid of the strings and the pee pose! Ugh.
Sleek and sophisticated. Love it. Also, I covet those eyelashes.
The cut of that bodice is doing weird things to Anne’s chest, and I kinda wanna know why she has a red dot on her lip (did she cut it?) but she looks pretty cute. Short hair really balances her face.
Love it all except she stole Minnie Mouse’s shoes!
Anyway, the dress is very flattering. And I’m oddly comforted by the bitten lip/cold sore…she’s a real gal, even occasionally like us!
Mismatched nails just weird I think. I don’t care if it’s “a thing” or not. Not sure what’s up with the middle school bracelets either. But the dress is fantastic on her, especially with the pixie. Better styling and this might have been a WERQ.
I hate to say anything positive about Posh, but I do like that dress.
Dress is awesome…but ‘just a tad” too long! Great neckline detail.
i really dig the string bracelets.
Oh, I just love this hair. The color, style, and it looks so soft and fresh.
She usually annoys me, but she really does look wonderful here!
I think she looks so totally beautiful here. I’m very pleased for her after that hiddy VF cover!
I teach at a middle school. Every girl does the string bracelet and the nails… Enought said!
The dress is beautiful!
I would just like to say that I really love that she chose a simple wedding band. So many celebrities are wearing giant diamond monstrosities that just look tacky to me, and I think it’s awesome that Anne went in the opposite direction. Of course, this could be my inner wedding planning brain talking.
Love the dress and love it on her. Don’t “get” the whole ring finger different color manicure trend but I’ll give her a pass because she’s a newlywed. Hair and makeup look great, opportunity for a more interesting shoe but what can you do.
Gorgeous dress. she looks fantastic in it.
She should wear Vicky B. more often.
Take off the friendship bracelets girl
