Amanda Seyfried in Couture for Vanity Fair

Posted on November 20, 2012

Amanda gets the standard “Pretty-Girlditorial.” You know, pretty girl in pretty dresses, standing in a garden or in front of windows or next to a column or fireplace.

But we wouldn’t expect much more than that from Vanity Fair, which is all about pretty people and rich people, for the most part. Love the shot of her in the Oakwell dress. She’s giving major face there.

She is a striking woman and I always enjoy seeing her in editorials.

    • Imasewsure

      meh

    • homofascist

Oooooooo – the Givenchy dress is very Cate Blanchett!

      • http://www.facebook.com/mwwgrimm Mariah W Grimm

A lot of these are someone else’s dresses. Florence (of the machine) needs that Oakwell.

    • http://twitter.com/SuzBald Susan Baldwin

I agree re: the Oakwell.  Something about her hair, there, also.  Chic and ladylike but with an edge.

    • NC_Meg

The first Chanel dress is so funny to me. It’s like someone said, “Screw it, just throw some cotton balls on that sequined dress. I want to go home.”

Other than that, it’s all very pretty.

      • kimmeister

In the first shot, it almost looks like the poofballs are attached to flower stems!

      • http://twitter.com/baxterb2 Bbart

My first thought was Mold! That dress looks like it’s releasing spores to control the minds of readers

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Sarah-Adams/1143985903 Sarah Adams

It looks slightly less ridiculous in the garden shot because the poofs could be a flower going to seed. But it’s still a silly dress.

      • Cautiously Pessimistic

I was reminded of something a knitting blogger (probably the Yarn Harlot) said about the little bobbles that come in and out of style fairly frequently.  “Who wants to wear a sweater covered in a thousand nipples?”

Only in this case it’s a few dozen boobs.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=678337501 Carla Axtman

I was thinking that perhaps a Star Trek fan had glued Tribbles all over that dress.

        • snarkykitten

           rose scented tribbles

      • lovelyivy

It looks like something that turned moldy in my fridge.

      • http://journal.translarte.de/ Muyserin

You nailed it. Chanel used to be the epitome of fashion. This dress is fugly.

    • Frank_821

Yes in the Oakwell dress, she is seriously bringing it

    • twocee

Why are pink tribbles attacking that Chanel dress?

      • Pants_are_a_must

Because Uncle Karl was watching Star Trek. “You are the princess of tribbles. FLUFF!”

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Lucía-Gavello/1253586868 Lucía Gavello

You’re right! I was thinking: Do NOT get the mogwai dress wet girl! But they look much more like tribbles.

      • http://twitter.com/Elissa_Malcohn Elissa Malcohn

         Pink tribbles on a Dalek.

    • gabbilevy

      She’s something fierce, isn’t she?

    • In_Stitches

I’m at my breaking point with Chanel.  I don’t know how the house manages to make slutty clothes that seem simultaneously suitable both for toddlers and dowagers, but they continue to pump them out.

      Everything else is gorgeous.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=9362159 Tracy Walker

Who cares about Amanda? I want the dog in picture 2!

      • http://thoroughly-me.blogspot.com/ thoroughlyME

It is adorably furry, but it appears to be larger than she is! Anyone have a guess as to the breed?

        • Tina Petek

           Irish wolfhound.

          • snarkykitten

When I have my great fuck off mansion in Europe somewhere, I’m going to have great fuck off Irish wolfhounds all over the place.

        • http://onebluetree.blogspot.com/ Sara L.

Yup, Irish Wolfhound. They are incredibly huge.

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Sarah-Adams/1143985903 Sarah Adams

Yup, Irish wolfhound. Scottish deerhounds are similar but they have narrower faces like a shaggy greyhound.

      • poggi

He is definitely giving great face.

      • ccinnc

Love that dog and his mischievous little smirk! Reminds me of our Italian Spinone (who’s not quite THAT big!).

    • hellkell

The Oakwell runway shot is jawdroppingly beautiful.

      • RebeccaKW

         That dress is gorgeous.  Want.

    • pretty_in_pink2612

      The dog wins.

    • sweetlilvoice

Kudos to her for not having an open mouth in every picture. It’s a nice change from most editorials.

    • hughman

When I saw the Chanel pants, in my head I imagined T&Lo screaming at her like they do to men on the RC – “GET SOMEONE TO HEM YOUR PANTS!”.

    • AtticWife

That model in Nicholas Oakwell is delivering major Norma Desmond realness. Fuck Seyfried, SHE gets a WERQ.

      • Little_Olive

Nadja Auermann would have KILLED it.

    • Pants_are_a_must

She’s giving major face, period. Normally, the subjects of Pretty Girlditorials look as vacant as humanly possible, probably to reinforce the stereotype. Seyfried, however, is treating it like a vaguely S&M space couture photoshoot, and I have respect.

    • http://twitter.com/tangodiva Tanya Wade

I kind of hate myself for loving the Chanel pussywillow dress. But I can’t help it….

    • crash1212

Her face is major – but I truly hate every stitch of clothing chosen for this spread. Fugly. It takes a special designer fuckery in picture #5 to make this perfect specimen look like she has saggy boobs. Blech.

    • VicksieDo

Lots of major face here, loved this.  That’s the most present I’ve ever seen her.  That Oakwell is to DIE~~~

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_F73LIJ3SJGI5AJQMXMWXCKILHI Pamela

In some of these shots, she looks like she could be Michelle Pfeiffer’s daughter.  So close..

    • lorelark

I think all these dresses look more interesting in the runway shots.  :

      • Little_Olive

Really? I think the Armani Prive styling and choice of model are awful. The Givenchy is quite off as well.

    • Carly Warnock

It may be fairly standard but her face and her beauty really elevates it. She has such a unique face, I just love the shot of her in the Armani Prive with the comical sized dog.

    • carpediva

      Doggeh!!!!!

    • kschwarting

It is all very standard, but she’s giving good face in most of these shots.  I’ve never thought of her as a model, but between that airport shot yesterday and this editorial, she’s got something.

    • Cz

I want that Valentino dress so bad. I also want to win the lottery, so at this point, I should just keep wanting things I can’t have because law of averages, you know.

Looks like the Les Miserables song-and-dance (heehee) has started already?

    • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

Was Chanel’s collection specifically designed to trigger allergies? So much feather and frou frou!

    • random_poster

When the hell did licking cotton candy and throwing it at sparkly pink material become the basis for a couture gown?

(Amanda…you’re lovely and even make cotton candy couture look good.)

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001998855370 Fatima Siddique

Kudos to her. All the clothes look better on her than they do on the models.

    • decormaven

Too bad that Givenchy was shot in b&w. Would love to see it in color on her. The Oakwell is the strongest of the bunch; there is something about the CD in the last shot that looks weak. Maybe it’s the makeup and styling chosen for it.

    • Kenisha Hill Phillips

      WTF Chanel…

    • alyce1213

There’s some nice dresses here, and then there’s the pink show poodle poof dress.  Pretty amusing.

Love the Irish Woflhound best of all.

    • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

This is rare for me but I have to say that there is not one look that I like. Those Dior and Chanel are ridiculous. Valentino became redundant two seasons ago. Givenchy is pulling tricks out of the bag that rival the ‘bad idea’ reel at Parsons graduation festivities. Amanda looks stunning as always.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_RDEDI3ONWSVDQS5GXKKBIML3H4 Chase

I love Amanda, but this editorial is nothing special.

    • elemspbee

      LOVE. what a face.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Sarah-Adams/1143985903 Sarah Adams

Can I have the dog, please?

    • prettybigkitty

Wow.  She looks stunning.  Did not think she had that in her.

    • Jessi03

LOL Chanel.  I do think the Armani looks gorgeous on her, but weirdly cheap on the model.  Otherwise, kind of a weird collection of clothing.  The dog gives great face!

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Julie-Chase/731391326 Julie Chase

      The Oakwell is phenomenal.

    • quiltrx

That Valentino really works well for her.

And how adorable is that DOG?  I want to hug and squeeze and snuggle him!

    • bitchybitchybitchy

Most of it’s just meh in my book. I just don’t find her very interesting.

    • http://www.facebook.com/sara.m.hottman Sara Hottman

Dear Chanel, why did you hang Easter-colored chicks from a dress? And why did you steal clippings of old lady hair and paste it on a blouse?

    • frankystein123

      WERQ

    • kcarb1025

Love that Nicholas Oakwell gown but NOT on Amanda..

      • http://cheekypinky.wordpress.com/ Rebecca

I was thinking it looked more like a Blanchett or SWINTON dress, yes?

    • formerlyAnon

I don’t think she achieves the ease with her body that a model has, but her facial expressions more than make up for it.

I like several, but I was struck by how under-acheiving the Chanel looks are in context. In my opinion, obviously.

    • http://profiles.google.com/sauchih Sau-Chih Feng

Static warning on that Chanel dress! Either that, or Amanda has become the Lint Queen.

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

They’re pretty photos, but I’m underwhelmed by most of them. I do love the Valentino though.

    • http://twitter.com/Nancer Nancer

The Oakwell and Valentino are the only dresses that are working for her. Or perhaps it’s the photography? These shots just don’t work. Or perhaps it’s because she is so tiny, it looks like the dresses are wearing her instead of the other way around.

    • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

The Chanel outfits are breathtaking, I just love them.  Oakwell is a close second.  I’ve never heard of this designer before, but that’s a “major awards ceremony” dress if there ever was one.

    • ankali

She looks smashing in the Valentino. Might be because the colors look more saturated in the photo than on the runway? Regardless, love the 70s vibe.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_FBVC5LBEOWEHBYYCH3A2IZGZHI yahoo-FBVC5LBEOWEHBYYCH3A2IZGZHI

I love the unexpected dress with the funny furballs hanging from it.

    • RzYoung

That Oakwell dress is breathtaking. Also, that dog totes steals the show!

    • Deedles

Uncle Karl’s “Ode to a Cotton Ball” MUST go.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=677547537 John Hodgins

She looks like a young Michelle Pfeiffer in the Oakwell.

    • http://www.facebook.com/mwwgrimm Mariah W Grimm

Boring ed, but I would sell my firstborn for that Valentino, which really belongs on a redhead.

    • Beardslee

      The Oakwell dress is wonderful.

    • snarkykitten

Gotta giver her props. She’s making that dress covered in pink tribbles look classy.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1594250515 Kim Brightman

Much better than I would have expected from her.  OMG, that’s a large Irish Wolfhound!

    • kaycem

my favorite look and picture is of the chanel pants and feather (fur?) shirt.

    • fallen_ikon

The last shot looks like it should be in someone’s wedding photo album. It looks out of place with the rest of them, to me.

    • bellafigura1

The dog’s a hottie! Look at that rakish sexy grin!

    • NCDFan

She’s pretty enough to add something to the dresses but really both the Chanels, The Givenchy and the Dior are uninspiring. They have a certain prettiness but rely on the fabric way too much. The Oakwood is the best, the Valentino is good and the Armane Prive is pretty.

    • guest2visits

Love thes pics, except the one with the dog – I didn’t like that particular dress.  But I liked how the photos make Amanda look
abit differently than her usual – and somehow made this tiny girl appear taller too.
I love Vanity Fair and have subscribed for years.  But I don’t care about it’s fashion; I must have it for the articals.
Everyone should be reading it for it’s indepth coverage of people, politics, money, scandal, power and privilege, corporate malfeasance,
and just about everything that should be covered in a Newsweek or Time and almost never is. Or anywhere else, either.
