WERQ: Rihanna in Pushbutton

Posted on October 03, 2012

The primo bitchface she’s giving in the first pic alone is enough to have us snapping in Z formation.

Rihanna heads to Emilio’s Ballato restaurant in New York City. Earrings by Jennifer Meyer. Rings by Melody Ehsani. Shoes by Manolo Blahnik. Jeans by Citizen of Humanity.

Pushbutton ‘Original’ Cropped Tee

Apparently, the theme for today is “Shouting ‘WERQ!’ at Sisters Wearing Metallics,” but we can’t help it. Just like we love a good silver-and-black combo, we equally love a good gold-and-black one. And Miss Ri needs to be lauded just for saying “hell NO” to that hideous gold skirt and choosing a pair of black skinny jeans instead. We love a metallic, but even we have our limits. Also, the shoes are killer. We are assuming that thing in her hand is not meant to be a purse. If it is, we will have to withhold our snapping, but we’re going on the assumption that it’s not. Please tell us it’s not, Ri. Please tell us you’re heading to a birthday party or something. Please.

Looking good!  But I only approve of talons that long on Sharon Needles.

    • VioletFem

      Me too.

    • AudreysMom

after the bitch face, they were the only thing I noticed. I too greatly prefer them on La Needles.

  • call_me_schmeg

her ladytalons can skin you alive.

    • What disturbed me was the fact that the talons extend to her big toenail…long toenails make everything an out.

  • kimmeister

    Those nails, ugh!

I like the idea of the outfit, but I just can’t get behind the shape of that top.  It’s like Elena’s design for a hockey jersey.

  • BazoDee

Wha? She looks nice enough – well styled and accessorized but a werq?

    • ChiKat67

Given the fact that she ran around in a nearly totally unbuttoned pajama top (w/matching bottoms) a few days ago and she does have a fondness for see-through shirts, this is a WERQ for me.

  • jilly_d

I need her to just go away.

  • PeaceBang

I’m not feeling this. She looks miserable and has for awhile, and this outfit ages her by about thirty years.

    • Vickiefantastico

She always looks “out of it” to me. Makes me sad to look at her.

  • kaycem

    it’s pavon nyc’s neon tote.

still a werq for me, though.  😉

  • She gets a WERQ from me as well… I would definitely wear this. There would be far less people gawking at me & snapping my pic, but still… I’d wear it.

  • Dot

I know this post is about Rihanna, but I cannot get over how ridiculous the model looks in that outfit. She looks embarrassed to be photographed in that crazy ass get-up.

  • I love that tshirt. 90s style WERQ. And good on her for not wearing the skirt – the model looks schlumpy.

  • teensmom99

Yes!  Just as I suspected, the potential grannie-in-Florida shirt looks fierce when paired with some tight pants.

  • nancymae

Have the WERQ standards changed? I mean, yes, she’s not stomping around in couture pj’s and the outfit is cool but WERQ-ready?? I think not.

And those nails!!! I wonder if she’s been catching up on HBO’s Oz and she growing that long so she can scratch someone to death and then clip off the murder weapons. Geez, that show was a trip.

  • alyce1213

Not feeling that black & gold T at all; I don’t get why it’s supposed to be nice.
Otherwise, she looks better than usual.  And by better, I mean less trashy.

  • Monkey Toe

It is a shopping bag: http://www.pavonnyc.com/

  • Anathema_Device

Hmm, not sure I’m in agreement on a WERQ for an expensive, cutoff football jersey. She looks sort of cute, but not wowing me.

  • Rebecca Johnson

Her fingers and nails will haunt my nightmares.

  • Tacky.

  • julnyes

That side-eye she is serving is fantastic.

  • omg that model is hysterically bad.

  • Ri looks awesome, and the skirt on the model is hilariously awful. What an atrocity!

    • schadenfreudelicious

so bad, it looks like the gold lame version of those space blankets they wrap accident victims in….

  • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

I think she looks great and LOVE the red lips. But she definitely needs a manicure.

  • her nails are grossly long.

    • RebeccaKW

How do you…go to the bathroom with talons like that?  I know she isn’t part of the real world, typing and putting on her own makeup, but…surely she doesn’t pay someone to follow her into the stall.

      •  Hah! I always have that thought when I see women grossly long fingernails. It’s too gross to think about.

  • Lately I think she looks wan and exhausted, and I’ve decided part of the problem is the haircut.  The too-short bangs keep parting in such a a way as they always look limp and damp.  The rest might be the lighting giving her that terrible pallor.

And I can’t give the girl a WERQ for wearing a cropped football jersey cut from foam mat.

  • Caesar’s Palace cheerleader.  Yuck..  Hair looks cute, though.

  • Imasewsure

WERQ doesn’t have to be high fashion… it just has to be all-that and I think this definitely applies particularly when you see what the outfit started as… amazing that a stylist or RiRi could look at that concoction and see something WERQ-worthy there – which is one of the reason’s it’s WERQ to me too. Don’t always like her but this is Caesar’s Palace fabulous!

  • Cute look and yes, thank god she didn’t go for that skirt. Ack!

  • StelledelMare

That first face is exactly like the one Sophia Loren gave to Jayne Mansfield

  • StellaZafella

    Last post I couldn’t see her…
Today, I want to be her.
Back in the day when I was a svelt, tall, drag mutha rockin’ her own short hair (between big wig fiascos) THIS was a style for me. I LUV this whole look and the attitude that it engenders, (pun intended).

  • mmc2315

I’m not charmed by this look.  Not a WERQ.  It’s a meh.  I can behind the shoes, and maybe the jeans, but the nails, and that unflattering  boxy gaudy shirt….no can do!

  • kalisa

She’s got some serious old lady hands.

  • Judy_J

Great outfit….dynamite!  Just wish she’d gone up a half size on the shoes (which are fabulous).

  • SewingSiren

Love the hair, make-up , and jewelry. She styled the  top way better than the designer, but I though belly shirts were over about five years ago.

  • holdmewhileimnaked

she certainly looks better than the model. then again, i have rarely seen a model look worse. i do believe you have identified the very worst piece of fashion i’ve seen this season–wait. hold on. the chanel denim dress. that. thats worse. you know, the one thats a skirt hiked up & worn backwards? that one? same show as the hula hoop purse?

elsewise she looks as good as always which is, pretty much, always pretty good.

    edited to add:
ps. how does anyone look at the picture of the model & decide from that one must needs wants a piece o’ those garments?

  • MissMariRose

I don’t understand the fascination with Rihanna. There, I’ve said it.

  • Holy shit. That original design is the worst! She looks fab though.

  • I really love her hair in that style, you can see her ever so pretty face better.

  • PastryGoddess

What is up with the dragon lady nails all over hollywood these days?

    • MilaXX

It’s part of the nail craze. Those are the dreaded stiletto nails.

  • Lilithcat

We are assuming that thing in her hand is not meant to be a purse.

    It’s a tote bag.

  • MilaXX

She is to be applauded from taking that  top from tacky to young & sexy.

  • shelley514

     Not WERQ worthy.  Ho hum.

  • LeifBallard

I’m loving it all except why does she insist on have those nails??

  • tereliz

I much prefer her hair like this! She looks cute and ready to party.

  • EEKstl

Ri looks fantastic, but mostly I am chuckling just imaginging what TLo would say if that hideous gold skirt had been the result of a PR challenge.

  • Contralto

definitely a WERQ.  Thrilled that she avoided that awful gold skirt.

  • NatalieD28

I think she looks great! I just can’t help but wonder…how does someone do necessary…ahem, tasks…with nails that long? Like…wouldn’t they rip tissues and toilet paper?! I have only managed nails as long as short acrylics! It just boggles my mind! But she still is looking quite fierce!

  • amf0001

I wore those very gold shoes back in the 70’s.  they were hot then too 🙂

  • I thought T-Lo was not a fan of  “naked” shoes.  There doesn’t appear to be much to those other than 2 straps. And one of those is a dreaded ankle strap!  I agree about the talons, I mean fingernails. Her toenails appear to be substantial as well; I feel for whomever shares her bed.  Scratch City!

  • nannypoo

That skirt is really laughable. I like the top.

  • OMG, perfect!  WERQ!  And she was completely wise to not go for the skirt, it’s awful!  I do think that bag is a shopping tote of some sort – she dresses smarter than that.

  • I like to call that the side eye

  • aristida_girl

love love…her new hair is now approved…I love all the guys is the background freaking out in the first pic 🙂

  • guest2visits

I kind of like this, but for the fit of the top; it’s not her fault – it’s just designed so boxy.
Spikey-claw nails are aging and unattractive.

  • Insidiously

  • elleg929

Def not a WERQ…boys, were you having “irish” coffee when you wrote this??

  • loving the madonna-rain hair. it already worked so well in her* ‘take a bow’ video. thats still rihannas high-water-mark in looking great, in my book.

*rihannas ‘take a bow’, not madonnas, just to be clear.

  • TieDye64

Other than the claws it’s werq-worthy.

  • ShayShay

    Dis bitch baaaaaaaaadddddddddddd!
