WERQ: Alan Cumming

Posted on October 17, 2012

Oh, Alan. We do love you so. You’re like the gay male version of Dita Von Teese. Maybe not so much on the sexbomb front, but more on the “retro styled to perfection” front.

Alan Cumming attends the Elton John AIDS Foundation’s 11th Annual An Enduring Vision Benefit in New York City.

Although we wouldn’t kick you out of bed. We have a feeling you’re a hell of a lot of fun when you’re horizontal.

Anyway, we love everything here, except for the shoes, which look a bit too big and clunky for such a fabulous look. Still, MAJOR plaid snaps, darling! You WERQ that PeeWee look!

I love his look. No one else could wear this.

      • http://6things.blogspot.com par3182

        Pee-Wee Herman?

        • nannypoo

Yes, but Pee-Wee Herman wouldn’t be adorable.

          • VRuss

He is a super adorable version of PeeWee Herman in this look…. I love watching him on TV!

    • http://twitter.com/tangodiva Tanya Wade

I adore this man and he is 75% of the reason I watch Masterpiece Mystery. I also want his perfume “Second Cumming” for my man, because it “smells like rubber, pine, and Scotch.” And I imagine Mr. Cumming does, too. Hate the shoes, love the plaid.

    • siriuslover

I saw this WERQ in FB and my first thought was “when is he not a WERQ? he’s like the male Dita von Teese” and I come to the blog and that’s exactly what you guys have written! Your fashion sense is starting to rub off on me! YAY!

And I would definitely go horizontal with Mr. Cumming, but unfortunately, I’m not his type.

      • http://twitter.com/FuLinlin FuLinlin

Isn’t he bi? I think its more that unfortunately, he’s married;-)

        • siriuslover

I didn’t realize he was still married.

          • http://twitter.com/juliafoxtrot Julia Fox

Apparently so, but I just read this quote from him: “I don’t believe that monogamy is feasible”…so uh, you might still have your shot there. ;) Hahaha.

            • Le_Sigh

Oooh – Julia Fox – I think that bit of info just re-ignited my pants-love for him.  I’m a straight girl and I’d definitely not kick him out of bed.

            • VRuss

I wouldn’t kock him out of my bed either.

        • http://twitter.com/jelizap Jane Patterson

Yep, he’s very out as bi, though the major queer press (not knocking our hosts, knocking the Advocate and its ilk) keep forgetting that. So nice to have at least one out bi man celebrity.

      • 3boysful

Me either, but have always adored him.

    • Yosa Addiss

Oh, he gets FULL ON sex bomb from me.  He isn’t my type, nor am I his, but DA-UM.  Oh yeah.  100%.

    • Squarah

I just like people to don’t smother their personality on the red carpet. People like Alan, Tilda, HBC, and Dita always look so comfortable and natural because they look like themselves. If only we all had such a good grasp on our personal style; it’s always sexier than being on trend and looking like everyone else. People like Alan make me want to give a shit about my own style more than supposed fashionistas ever do.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Elaine-Lang/100000366510311 Elaine Lang

SO MUCH THIS.   The people you listed understand a signature style, which gives the viewer the impression that they understand themselves at a core level.  It’s the ultimate in fashion, I think:   to find your groove.

      • http://phantomminuet.blogspot.com/ MinAgain

        What Squarah said.  x2

      • TieDye64

Exactly this. Knowing and owning your personal style is soooooo sexy.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1183772509 Jen Hughes

Cute. The hair bugs me though.

      • http://twitter.com/stellaphone Stella Zawistowski

I just want to reach up and smooth it down! And then tell him “nice work on the outfit,” of course.

    • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

I dunno – I am never sure about sex with vegans (joke, people!)… But he certainly looks good and even if we didn’t have sex (which is pretty likely) I bet he’d be fun to drink with.

    • Anathema_Device

Yay! A man WERQ! And a well deserved one, too. I like shoes, creepers always make me happy.

      • Rand Ortega

         A MERQ?

      • curiouserandcuriousest

Yep, I was just thinking the man-werq is far too rare!

    • CMCH

      But what’s with his hair?

      • kimmeister

It looks like he used “there’s something about Mary” gel.

    • Rand Ortega

Nobody can rock a bold plaid like AC. Love Him!

    • http://www.facebook.com/fiddlecub Kevin VanOrd

You boys do love a plaid suit! I don’t know about the werq, though, because it implies attention to detail that I don’t see here. Specifically, his hair looks like he slapped some gel on his fingers and ran them across his head. On a personal note, I don’t care for the orange, but I’d love to see it in turquoise.

    • http://profiles.google.com/denise.alden Denise Alden

God, I love Alan Cumming.  He always looks like he takes chances with fashion, but really, I think he’s just got fantastic personal style and that’s why he always looks so great.  Plus, total sexbomb.

    • Maine1ac

      Love his smile, too.

    • Zippypie

I bow (but after I comb that stray chunk of hair down).

    • formerlyAnon

No mere mortals should try this at home.

But god I LOVE that man’s face.  Even more than I like how he dresses, which is considerably.

    • MikeW_PHX

He’s one of the reasons I watch “The Good Wife”.  (well, he and Christine Baranski.(oh.. and Nathan Lane, this season!!))

    • Joyce VG

      yes he looks ADORBS!

    • http://www.joannao.blogspot.com JoannaOC

I find Alan Cumming incredibly sexy, but mostly I just want to hug him and squeeze him.

    • RocknRollmom

So excited when I saw this.  I love him, but almost heartbroken when I saw the shoes!!  I am going to pretend they don’t exist because everything else is perfect.

    • jw_ny

Very few can pull off a plaid suit of that caliper…he does it well.

I never thought about him in the sack before…eh, not really my type although I do think he’s likely got an adventurous side to him.  ;)

He’s a brilliant actor.  Love him now on ‘The Good Wife’  :)

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1344922354 Eric Scheirer Stott

He’s getting just a little to old to pull this look off much longer.

      • formerlyAnon

Oh, he’ll pull it off but in a different way. Or maybe that’s what you meant. He’s built small enough to ease right into “extremely dapper older gent” without problems.

      • boweryboy

Oh, I disagree.  This is a look that anyone with the right body and attitude can pull off regardless of age.

I can easily see that Dr. Who guy or David Byrne rocking this look as well.

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1344922354 Eric Scheirer Stott

I’ll admit he’ll be able to work this longer than Brad Goreski’s similar look- Brad’s starting to just look contrived and chirpy.

    • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.com/ Cassie

I love Alan Cumming so much. My best friend from high school was studying abroad in Ireland last semester and ran into him on the street. I am blazingly jealous. He had a photography exhibition up in a little gallery when I went to Provincetown this summer and it was basically “this is my insane/amazing life!!”

Oh, and the plaid suit is fucking awesome.

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

Good lord I love this man! He’s adorable, and looks FANTASTIC!

    • MilaXX

Love the look and agree about the shoes.  BTW, I’ve gotten back into The Good Wife this season and I am truly impressed at how both he and Nathan Lane are at playing dramatic roles.

    • littlemac8

I will never forget seeing him and Liza with a Z in Cabaret!  Fantastic and I’ve loved him ever since!  And Liza with a Z on Arrested Development chasing Buster…the best!

    • http://vhanna26.typepad.com Vera

I adore him and the suit.  The hair and shoes not so much, but that’s okay.

    • boweryboy

      Yum.  That is all.

    • unbornfawn

      Love him!

    • Chickadeep

Love, love, LOVE this guy! He may be the male Dita, but he’s got a touch of Helena Bonham-Carter-style UK eccentric going on too, which makes him doubly fabulous. He’s absolutely sure of himself (but never oblivious), and that is an automatic WERQ in my book.

    • http://angryfemur.tumblr.com Andrea Lane

      Ahem. Are those crocs?

      • PastryGoddess

        Blasphemy! :)

I try not to ever mention the c-word on this blog, lest the whole thing goes up in flames

    • bitchybitchybitchy

Who else could have pulled this suit off with such aplomb but Mr. Cummings?  Two snaps and a WERQ!

Among my favorite Alan Cummings memories is his dance with Mira Sorvino and Lisa Kudrow in “Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion”

    • AtticWife

Wait wait, Alan Cumming isn’t a sex bomb? Hold the phone. Because A) That SMIRK MY HEAVENS, and B) His name. Is. CUMMING. Game set match CUMMING.

      • littlemissstrange

         Can’t like this comment enough.

    • theblondette

Bisexual male version, darlings. Let’s not erase the identity he’s expressed quite clearly in numerous interviews! :)

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Austen-Jane/100002245814326 Austen Jane

Rumor has it he is married. So hands off, girls!

      He looks delicious.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=790818401 Laurie Landry

Plaid Pee Wee…but I love him!

    • Fordzo

      Sex on legs.

    • JaneDC

Hate to go off topic here, but he is gifted actor.

    • joything

“… that Pee Wee look!”  Exactly.

    • Call me Bee

Fabulous!  But yes–the shoes look a bit Frankenstein-ish for this close-cut suit.  He needs a great pair of Cuban heels.

    • http://twitter.com/lenabena_ Elena

I want to fix his hair, but other than that, he’s werqin’ it!

    • ThaliaMenninger

      He’s such a cheeky monkey.

    • S. Jenna Lutz

I’ve loved the man ever since I used to watch episodes of the BBC show years ago where he played a Scottish flight attendant. Those show where the gateway drug to my love of almost all British humor – as well as showed me the joy of camp, guyliner, and men with fashion leanings far far beyond the James Bond straightjacket of ‘normal’ handsomeness.

He and Stephen Fry are at the top of my “I really don’t give a tinker’s about who you want to sleep with… just read me a story and I’ll be purring as I drift off to sleep” list. They both must, for the good of the species, even if they only donate and the work gets done in a testtube, MUST MUST MUST procreate. Please. This kind of fabulous humanity can not be allowed to skip adding to the genepool.

He and Helena Bonham Carter are who, as I get older, I find myself wanting to look to for even just a smidge of their strength, humor, and style.

      • Corsetmaker

Heeheee, The High Life! I loved it. Him, Forbes Masson and Siobhan Redmond. Alan and Forbes worked together for years.

    • Susan Crawford

      Such a dimpled-cheeky monkey!

    • Carla_Charlton

Agree about the shoes and about how cute he is overall.  I love him as the host of Masterpiece Mystery.

    • Imasewsure

      Love him

    • julnyes

Too much gel in the hair and those are clown shoes, but otherwise a great signature Alan look.

    • LuisaNL

Love him. He always gets a WERQ from me.

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

The hair’s not working for me, but the delightful crinkly-eyed smile more than makes up for it.

    • RzYoung

If you have an Alan crush you need to try and get your hands on The High Life, v funny mid 90s Scottish sit com he did :)

    • MoHub

” You’re like the gay male version of Dita Von Teese.”

Precisely, only Alan is classier. Have to agree about the shoes, though. That suit needs classic saddle shoes.

    • SewingSiren

Very Pee Wee Herman. But I love it.

    • bluefish

Abolutely fantastic!  Love love love it. Looks like PeeWee Herman’s older brother.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1476648069 Scott Cooper

He looks like he escaped from a bus and truck company of Guys and Dolls.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1129137319 Paula Pertile

      Love him, always.

    • librarygrrl64

Love the suit, hate the “wet look” hair.

    • Lisa Kramp

He’s so bleddy cute! I adore him and only he could pull that suit off!

    • B_C_J

I think the suit fits PERFECTLY but the fabric is a bit cartoonish for my taste.  I would have preferred black tuxedo pants instead. However, I admire that he stays true to his sartorial aesthetic.   One additional criticism is that the bow tie should not be a pre-made bow tie.  It is very easy to tie a bow tie (it’s the same two steps as tying a shoelace) and it makes all the difference in the world especially when you are calling this much attention to yourself.

    • EEKstl

He’s so adorable and talented.  Loved him in “The Anniversary Party.”

    • oohsparkley!

Love a man with a sense of humor and dimples!  Very stylish too.

    • granddelusion

Haha! I DID think it was Peewee Herman!

    • Diana Martinez

Love him, but please, please, please, can’t we tie him down and give him a haircut?  Please?
