Taylor Swift in New York City

Posted on October 23, 2012

She’s just fucking with us now, right?

Okay, yes. We just look for a reason to say “fuck” every time we see a picture of her. Just be happy we stop there, because our not-so-inner truckdriver mouths tend to come to the forefront every time we’re faced with overwhelming tweeness.

And you guys?

Taylor Swift leaves ABC Studios in New York City.

That is TWEE AS FUCK.

Really, though. She’s just fucking with us, right?

All that are missing is a straw hat with ribbons fluttering in the wind behind her and little white gloves.  She can’t even make it all the way up to Barbie.  This is Skipper.

    • decormaven

Absolument. It’s Barbie Surburban Shopper in goldenrod yellow. Pity she didn’t spring for the straw purse as well.

    • librarygrrl64

      TOTALLY Skipper!!!

  • Anathema_Device

Yes it is twee, but that is a great dress. Wish she had worn a different layer over it, but this doesn’t bug me.

    • http://twitter.com/catinlaw Catherine George

Agreed. Ditch the cardigan (not sure what I’d replace it with – maybe nothing, if wearing it inside, and a completely covering coat if wearing it outside; maybe a white motorcycle jacket?) put on different shoes, and we’re in business. IMO, it’s definitely the styling that’s the problem here. Or maybe the wearer’s reputation – if this same outfit was on someone who didn’t dip into the twee well quite so often, there would probably be a different reaction.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Angelica-Smith-Mertens/150401222 Angelica Smith Mertens

If the cardi was in a contrasting color, like a blue or a shamrock green with different shoes it might not look as twee…the matchyness of it all makes it go into twee territory for sure!

        • http://twitter.com/ndpndntfilm Susan Velazquez

That’s my issue here too. Everything’s too matchy-matchy. The same cardi in a contrasting color would have been better.

      • Anathema_Device

I think a shorter cardigan in teal, turquoise, orange, or gray would look great, as would a moto jacket. I like the moto jacket over dress look and wear it a lot, but many people feel it is played out. Ah well, I’m sticking with it!

        • LesYeuxHiboux

I also love the moto jacket and dress look (love the idea of a white one), but for those who find it played out I’d suggest a blazer for Miss Swift here. Boyfriend style, relaxed with the sleeves pushed up. Maybe in a navy? A little bit of androgyny to temper the saccharine stereotypical femininity of the rest of the look. Different shoes for sure. I ‘m thinking closed-toe wedges or a heeled ankle boot with a little hardware.

          • Anathema_Device

Good call, all the way around.

    • ChiliP

I agree, I think she looks cute. It’s a beautiful dress.

It’s funny, the two people who seem to incense a lot of BKs (Lea Michelle and Ms. Swift here) don’t bother me. Objectively speaking, I think she looks pretty, feminine and retro. I think the cardigan would work better on a different outfit, but I like the color of both it and the dress. Is the main objection to her that she dresses in an almost costumey manner, considering her persona?

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/KBNJ6GJTXYEE6BON3WGK6KEGT4 Elizabeth

ChiliP, I absolutely agree with you. She is surely Twee, but in my opinion, it works for her. Her clothes are always perfectly tailored (or Taylor’d perhaps), and quite honestly, it’s kind of refreshing to see a young lady starlet who covers up a bit. These youngsters today tend to dress like expensive hookers much of the time. I like her retro wholesomeness, even if she is totally fucking with us as TLo suggested.

        • formerlyAnon

If by “totally fucking with us” you mean it’s entirely calculated for effect? I think definitely. (Of course, so is a lot of what any successful celeb wears.) How near or far that is to who she really is is another question.

      • Cathy S

I think she looks great too. I don’t mind the cardigan either.

    • 3boysful

I j’adore this dress.  Some other kind of layer or different colored cardi would help.  Those shoes are hideous–what a 75 yr old wears to gamble in Vegas.  Not at all suited to a very young woman.

      • formerlyAnon

I just assume the lipstick is part of the schtick surrounding the release of her latest album (titled “Red”) this week.

Yes, I’m appalled that I know this.

      • Anathema_Device

I kind of like the retro-ness of the shoes, but yeah, all she needs are the toe seams of her support hose poking out the end.

      • Nelliebelle1197

She borrowed them from Ethel Kennedy

      • http://twitter.com/Kikishua CMS

And I was just about to say I liked the shoes… oh well, I *do* only have 23 years to go before they’re age appropriate!

    • kschwarting

Exactly!  The dress itself is adorable and I’d wear it.  And while she’s at it, she doesn’t have to wear the exact same shade of lipstick all the time.

  • AmandaCathleen

Is it a bad sign that I kind of love this look? It’s such a fabulous and under-used color.

    • Jessica O’Connell

I’m with you. I saw it and thought, “Well, I hate her, but I’d wear that.” Now, I don’t claim to be the most fashionable person in any respect and don’t do much by contrasting colors when I accessorize because I just basically go from work to class to internship to work to class everyday and don’t give enough of a fuck for all of that. But still, while monochrome and kind of twee, this is cute.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1401197785 Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

I’m not a fan of hers, but I love that look. It’s well put together outfit in a great color.

      • Pinup Ghoul

‘Vintage’ and ‘monochrome’ are definitely words one could use to describe my wardrobe, too. Occasionally ‘twee’, but cuteness isn’t really my staple. I love the look, too. I’d totally wear it.

    • http://phantomminuet.blogspot.com/ MinAgain

No, because I was just thinking how much I would like to have a dress like thist for the warm fall days in Tennessee.

    • http://korilian.livejournal.com/ korilian

Huh. They’re actually shoving that mustard yellow down our throats in my country this winter. I also kind of like her look.

    • librarygrrl64

That color really works on her. I love to see redheads in this, too.

      • AmandaCathleen

The pencil-skirt version of that dress would look amazing on Christina Hendricks.

    • Jacqueline Wessel

I love this look. The thing that brings it down for me are the bangs.

  • kaycem

i cannot stand her, i don’t even care.  why would a 24 year-old WANT to dress like a 12 year-old.  hell hailee steinfeld, chloe moretz, and kiernan shipka dress with more style and edge than this bitch.

    • MilaXX

Don’t even get me started on the faux virginal look she tries to play while sleeping her way through Hollywood.

      HATE

      • Imasewsure

See that is one of the things I actually like about her

        • http://twitter.com/janedonuts Jane Donuts

          ha!

      • GorgeousThings

No no no – she’s sleeping her way through Hyannis these days.

      • http://twitter.com/Goldielox73 Goldie

Considering the rumor that a couple of her former boyfriends actually play for the other team, she may literally be sleeping her way through Hollywood.

        • MilaXX

A comedian made a joke that her exes needed to get together and record a “We are the World” type song about her for a change.

    • librarygrrl64

If the dress were in the same fabric and pattern but more fitted throughout the skirt portion, I think it would be less twee. Still retro, but less juvenile.

  • Tracy_Flick

Love the dress, love the cardi, hate them together. And the shoes look wrong somehow, like she forgot to change after jazz dance practice.

    • http://twitter.com/zbird17 Sheri Z

I was thinking Jan Brady shoes.  Or maybe Marcia?

  • SapphoPoet

Twee, yes, but I like it. Love that goldenrod color.

  • Nicholas

She is a master troll. Let it be written.

  • http://twitter.com/hmbscully WendyD

    CANNOT. STAND. HER.

  • SistaT

This feels like an instance of “Find Something Nice To Say”, so . . . her lipstick is pretty.  There.

  • MilaXX

    CANNOT. STAND. HER.

Seriously she makes me feel all stabby.

    • bittykitty

Literally. She makes me want to push her into a mud puddle. Ugh, everything about her is so…studied and calculated…(Shiver of revulsion)

  • eowyn_of_rohan

If this were pink or lavender or baby blue then I’d agree, but this is actually a great color for fall in New York (and it’s been fairly warm so it doesn’t strike me as being too summery).  Not sure I would have gone with the super-red pout and the shoes are a miss, but I don’t dislike this as much as the wearer rubs me the wrong way.

  • J. Preposterice

    I would wear this dress.

With my engineer boots and a pair of dark tights and a different top layer, but the dress is great.

    • librarygrrl64

This would look great with tights in a saturated blue, maybe.

    • kmk05

Engineer boots and a leather jacket. Also NO BANGS and some gloss (it can be red, too!) instead of this flat old-school lip colour.

  • RebeccaKW

I agree with another BK, love the dress and the cardi, but together not so much.  The shoes are really helping this look more juvenile.

However, I am enjoying the bodyguard.

    • Zippypie

I just noticed the bodyguard.  YUM!  No twee as fuck there!

    • roadtrip1000

First thing I thought when I saw the shoes was grandma. That style of shoe used to fill the racks at the Salvation Army – 20 years ago.

      • RebeccaKW

Man, as soon as I read that, I flashed on a picture of my grandmother, in pictures from when she was in highschool, in these shoes.  With socks on.

  • Imasewsure

I’m fine with the tweeeeeeee clothes and shoes ’cause I prefer it to a lot of other style habits… I just hate that hair and the makeup is just too much for my taste! And yes I think she is fucking with us… we were all mean girls in high school and this is her revenge

    • NC_Meg

I read an interview where she said her first big splurge was the Lexus that Regina George drove in Mean Girls. It was her revenge on the mean girls in her high school that looked up to the plastics.

OK OMG WE GET IT, THEY GET IT, EVERYONE GETS IT. But! You’re not in high school anymore. You’re quite a few years out of it.

  • Athenrein

I’d wear that dress. But with a leather jacket and boots.

Oh, and I’d get rid of that bow in front. I do not do bows, ever.

  • hyperionic

She still looks great though. If retro styles make her happy then she should wear them.

  • http://twitter.com/marieldrucker Marie Drucker

My mom had living room curtains in that pattern. Circa 1972.

  • HomeOfficeGirl

This is very Taylor Swift. I’m no fan, but she owns this.  When you ARE “twee as fuck”, how else CAN you dress?  She’s got a song with lyrics like ”We are never ever ever getting back together” – I mean, come on.  With crap like that, she’s probably dressing too old.

  • Zippypie

If you just look at the dress, it’s not twee, it’s retro and I really like it.  To be twee, it would have to be at least 2-3 inches shorter with a cropped cartigan. With an edgier modern shoe, this would work.

It’s HER.  SHE’S twee as fuck.  The goofy Skipper hair, the bright red lipstick, but just HER.  TWEE AS FUCK.

    • kimmeister

Exactly.  If Dita or even Michelle Obama were wearing this, people would be tripping over themselves with compliments.  On Taylor or Zoey Deschanel, everyone barfs because it’s their personas that are so twee.

      • reebism

With Michelle Obama, it would be belted, and there would be no cardigan, and I would love it.

I don’t hate Taylor Swift, but I think this is too much mustard, not enough contrast. The dress alone would be lovely, the dress with another cardigan would be lovely, the dress and cardigan with a contrasting belt to break it up would be lovely, but the outfit as is (with those bangs!) makes her into a blob with red lips.

        • mountainFashionista

No, on Michelle Obama, she’d be wearing a wide belt OVER the cardi  :-D

          • reebism

            Zing! I stand corrected. ;)

    • AtticWife

      Ding ding ding!

  • MoHub

Twee is the only proper adjective for this.

  • PastryGoddess

She’s trying to show off her suitability to be a Kennedy. and that shit is fucking annoying

  • sterlingrose

Sorry, but I like this dress. I appreciate the fact that little girls love her and she doesn’t dress like a slut.  A lot to be said for that.  I look at some of the female images out there and think of the 10-13 yr olds I know and shudder.   She looks cute, what the hell, who cares?

    • librarygrrl64

“I appreciate the fact that little girls love her and she doesn’t dress like a slut.”

Ditto. Which is pretty much the only thing I like about her.

  • hmariec19

Oh for Christ’s sake. Someone just indulge her fantasy and put her in a live-action Disney princess movie already.  Maybe then she’ll tone it down.

  • ScarlettHarlot

This actually makes me think of Michelle Williams’ character in Shutter Island. (For those of you who haven’t seen the movie, that is NOT a compliment.)

  • Corsetmaker

I’ve got no opinion of her either way. So looking at this objectively, no I don’t see it as exceptionally twee. It’s just a nice retro look in a great colour. It isn’t a baby shade, the damask print takes it away from being a straight floral and the shoes are pretty plain in a retro way. It isn’t sophisticated but I’ve seen way more twee than that slip by.

  • Belvane

I don’t think she’s twee, I think she’s ladylike, which is old-fashioned and therefore rather odd these days. Her face is so sweet that it takes anything she wears into uber-ladylike land. Put Emma Stone’s face with that dress and it becomes cute and retro, not twee.

  • MoHub

Didn’t Marlo Thomas forbid anyone else on That Girl to wear yellow, as it was “her” color? I’m getting a very Ann Marie vibe from this. All it needs is the straw schoolgirl hat.

  • http://www.facebook.com/fiddlecub Kevin VanOrd

    *Whispers* (I like it)

    • Peeve

      *whispering back* …i do, too…

  • minnye

She elicits no more than a ‘meh’ from me although those bangs are pretty irritating. Love that gold color.

  • TheLaurenJean

Girl looks great! If this were Michelle Williams, you would be praising it all over.

  • http://twitter.com/HeckYeahHeckNo KC

Really? I think she looks really cute. That’s a great dress. This is her style, not all twee stuff is horrible.

  • Janet B

Her style is always too twee, but I really like the dress.

Her shoes would look geriatric on Christina Hendricks.

    • mommyca

Hahahaha! I totally agree on the shoes!

  • http://twitter.com/juliafoxtrot Julia Fox

I don’t think the hair is helping.

  • geans

I love this look–I think it could be worse, twee-wise…imagine it with colored tights and Mary Janes, and, I don’t know a bow on her head a la Zooey.

  • golden_valley

My grandma had a sofa covered in that dress fabric

  • http://twitter.com/MajorBedhead MajorBedhead

I kind of love the dress. I kind of love the cardigan. I don’t love them together. The matchy-matchy-ness of it all is what pushes it into twee as fuck category for me, especially paired with raffia shoes. And I want to rub that red lipstick right off her face.

She irritates the piss out of me.

  • fnarf

SUPER twee, super gorgeous. If there had been one look on PR that was even 40% as hot as this I would have been happy.

    • MoHub

Glad you mentioned PR. Kenley could have made this.

  • fringebenefit

She looks more like a doll than a doll.

  • SewingSiren

Awww, she’s a twee kinda gal. And this is twee to the nth.

  • Lilithcat

She looks great.  That dress is adorable; the color is beautiful, and the cut suits her very well.   Shoes are fabulous.  Not “twee” at all.

She should tone down her lipstick, though.

    • mmc2315

      My thoughts exactly!

It’s a look that suits her very well.  Run with it, Tay!

  • 909girl601world

    I think she looks fabulous!

  • http://twitter.com/jaythenerdkid Aaminah Khan

I think she looks cute, but those booms are a bit alarming.

But then, I’ve never understood the hate towards her. She’s a pretty girl who makes catchy music that some people like and some people don’t. Who cares?

  • random_poster

    Who is the dress designer?

  • http://blog.emeraldsilver.com Sarah

Y’know… she looks like a sad porcelain ballerina doll to me.  I had the misfortune of catching her on TV this morning, and this dress just reinforces it.  I’m not ragging on her looks, because she can be quite pretty, but… that awkward-ass hair (girl, your hair doesn’t look like it belongs on your head, wtf?), and the awkward-ass stances she keeps ending up in (how do you look that broken and have joints in the right places?), and then she puts this kind of clothing and pale makeup with stark lipstick over it…

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000905542323 Rhonda Shore

I have no problem with a pretty frock.  Might have done a diff color sweater and shoes for contrast though…

  • Jessica Rowe

Well, if it isn’t Maria Von Trapp the hills are fucking alive and I’m dancing around in some old curtains. Maybe it’s a Halloween costume, you guys.

  • http://twitter.com/stellaphone Stella Zawistowski

Who cares about the outfit? Let’s talk about the hot handler!

    • l_c_ann

Well, I saw him, too.  And wondered how our uncles ignored him?

If he’s just some random guy, passing by,  well, aren’t we a lucky country?

  • judybrowni

Maybe somewhat twee, but cute all the same. Perhaps because I was alive and sentient the last time women wore dresses like this.

I haven’t listened to the radio in 30 years, so I’m kinda foggy on who she is, but still this is a cute look. Lipstick too red, tho.

  • Trisha26

Everything with her from hair to wardrobe to music to her stepford-like “emotions” are so calculated I want to SCREAM!

  • Rand Ortega

Taylor’s becoming another “Of Course” kind of fashionista. Move over, Lea Michelle!

    • afabulous50

Better this kind of “of course” than hanging out all over…

      • formerlyAnon

         Like times 1,000.

  • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

I gotta’ say, this is not bothering me in the least. I think she looks lovely. Although rather springy. I love the dress – really love it – and I love the shoes. I love her for not wearing 5 inch heels. I love anyone who is willing to put a stop to that madness.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_VZLU6YVO4BRTELTTH3GRAAMWZQ Dot

Jesus, she needs to grow those bowl-cut bangs out.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=4501978 Martha Jackson Deutsch

On the plus side, a new hot handler to drool over!

    • alyce1213

      That’s one big guy, huh?

      • formerlyAnon

Yeah. Makes me feel all cuddly kitten, and I’m not generally that type.

  • ballerinawithagun

I actually love this, but maybe I’m jealous, I can’t wear yellow.

    • Tatiana Luján

I love this too. The dress is beautiful and that mustard yellow looks great on her.

  • imspinningaround

What’s going on with her hair?  It looks like a wig!  Has she always been so ash blonde, or is this her idea of maturing her
look to fit in with the Kennedys?  (NEWS FLASH TAYLOR, THAT WHOLE FAMILY IS TRASHY.)

  • http://typicalgirlink.wordpress.com/ Dorothy Damage

She makes Zooey Deschanel look punk rock.

  • afabulous50

I don’t get why people can’t see that this is her image & persona created for public appearance.  And, I’d rather have my god-daughters like her rather than someone who is showing their boobs and crotch all over the place.  Better for my god daughters to see a successful TWEE as FUCK than someone who has to bare every inch of herself to be successful.  Whew!  I feel better now.

    • Candigirl1968

The problem is it all screams “I’m too cute.”  With the deliberate all white outfits, here the yellow from head to toe, etc., it’s all a little bit much.  She doesn’t need to slut it up, just mix it up. How about an interesting shoe or something other than a matchy cardigan.  Taylor probably has a team of stylists, and they continue to come up with one “aren’t I adorable” look after another.

      • afabulous50

I hear what you’re saying.  Her style isn’t my taste either.  But I’d rather have young girls look up to her, AND her style of dress (for the most part), than someone like Ke$ha!

    • formerlyAnon

Also,I award you bonus points for triumphing over the widespread societal confusion about the spelling of homonyms (I blame auto correct & spell check). Thank you for spelling the “bare” you meant.

(yes, I  AM that annoying and pedantic)

  • MsALVA

That print is straight from my Grammy’s sofa circa 1969.

  • shopgirl716

She might be twee but she has a very hot handler.  That should be a new feature on the blog “Hot Handlers”

    • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

he can cover my back anytime.

  • hoshizora

    Taylor Swift……whatever.  Who’s the “handler?”

  • librarygrrl64

I like all of the individual pieces, just maybe not together. I also wish she’d get a different hair style.

    • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

she looks like her mama cut her bangs with a bowl over her head.

  • j_anson

Look, she’s only doing this so she can get closer to the recording executive who killed her father, so that she can enact a detailed and long-drawn out revenge than involves picking off all those that were involved one by one. Cut her some slack.

    • mountainFashionista

       Best comment on this thread!

  • http://4ofwands.wordpress.com/ Aj/Melia

suddenly hearing the soundtrack to Sound of Music.  ”Wipe that lipstick off child!  Stay out of mama’s makeup.”

  • mommyca

So I guess “twee” is bad? I’m glad at least everybody is different and we have something to talk about…

  • NoelleMB

I think she looks pretty cute – I mean, c’mon, it’s Taylor Swift! She would look totally odd in something edgy or dark. This is a look perfectly suited for her and I think it’s a sweet, pretty frock in a great color. I’m not ashamed to say I would wear this whole outfit, being someone who would also look like a complete poser in an edgier look.

I know sometimes she tends to dress a bit too virginal (and yes, twee), but I don’t think that is the case here. Not everyone is meant to be punk rock.

    • Kayceed

I have a daughter, so I’ve heard a few of her songs – this look works well with her music. If she dressed edgy I think it would be laughable, knowing (the little) I do of her musical output.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Julie-Chase/731391326 Julie Chase

I love this. I hate that it’s her, but the shoes and the dress really work for me.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=634265714 MaryRose Walsh Pizzuto

3 words–Old. Lady. Shoes! Otherwise, it’s a really cute retro dress and I can even live with the matchy cardigan since she went with the bright red lips. The shoes take the look from retro ladylike over the line into 40′s spinster schoolmarm.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Clydette-Wantland/673315286 Clydette Wantland

    Adorable.  It’s perfect for her.

  • http://twitter.com/fncmullin Nora M.

I want that dress. I’d look fantastic in it and I promise to wear it with appropriate accessories.

  • ojosazules

This woman was hiding in the closet when God was handing out the fashion irony sense.

  • Kayceed

I think she looks great, but then I really love a fresh-looking day dress. Love the non-towering heel, love the color of the outfit – she just looks put together to my eye.

  • http://twitter.com/irmaladuce_l8ly IrmaLaDuce

I think she’s decided to go full-on First Lady Obama since she’s dating a Kennedy and all.

  • http://kingderella.tumblr.com/ kingderella

this is twee as fuck. its also fab as fuck.

  • sk8tfan

Yup, it’s twee, but she still looks great. She can pull off the slightly retro casual look. It doesn’t raise my hackles.

  • tereliz

Is she going to brunch on the Riverboat Natchez?

  • teensmom99

What can I say? I love it.  I think 22 is a great time to be twee and am glad that my 13 year old can look at someone like her as a style inspiration.  So sue me.

  • EEKstl

The granny shoes are my biggest beef with this look.  She looks cute, but she always bothers me.

  • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

    Living breathing Skipper doll.

  • Friedl Vanluchene

I really don’t understand what’s wrong with being twee. Some women like to be sexy, others like to be elegant, others like to be twee (including myself). Nothing wrong with that. I would have picked a different cardigan though.

    • MilaXX

There’s a fine line in twee-dom in which the scales tip over to barf inducing. Michelle Williams walks that line and occasionally tips over. Taylor is amost always hitting barf levels.

  • Susan Crawford

Definitely not a fan of the Kennedy-obsessed, serial-dating-and-ditching-and-dissing Swift and her cutesy-poo style. But I love this dress. However, she inspires me to drop a fuck on her just because.

  • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

I like the outfit.  It is cute and retro.  And yes, Taylor Swift can get on your last nerve.  I, however have never had a problem with her twee-ness.  :)

  • miagain

jeez… I think she looks darling.

  • quiltrx

As it is, twee as fuck.  It could have been cute, even edgy, if she’d gone with different shoes and a different outer layer (if she even needed the cardigan).  Plus I wish she didn’t have the booms, which automatically go into twee/little girl territory.

  • http://twitter.com/carnivaltenten Ten Ten

    VOMIT! Kill it with fire!!!!!!!

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

      Fire vomit?

  • Jessi03

I want that outfit.  I know it’s twee, but it’s adorable.

  • Sarah Thomas

    Ann Romney?

  • Beardslee

So what if she looks a little twee? She’s a very young woman and being a little sweet is vastly preferable to the usual “I am a grown up and and I am so sexy and HOT” look we all to often get from people her age. And I don’t find that to be a twee color.

  • PinkLemon

    i just can’t with her.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2P2ANLRZ6YAVGONA36I2AQJYGI VicD

    Irrational dislike list #1

  • NCDFan

Well you can complain all you want but given that her fan base is largely young girls I hope she keeps on dressing in pretty clothes and looking modest.

  • alyce1213

I can’t hate on her — she’s not a trashy-looking, oversexualized pop star like so many others.
What she’s wearing here doesn’t look all that twee to me. The vintage (-inspired?) dress takes it away from there, as does the length, which is not twee (which would be shorter). The fabric is a bit upholsterish, but I don’t think it’s ugly or anything.

She’s dressed like a Kennedy sister ca mid-1950s, and that’s fine with me.

The hair needs improvement, maybe a ’50s French twist.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=779473124 Crystal Marie Stewart

She looks pretty…. but she looks like she’s going to Sunday School.

  • Lisa Kramp

Twee as fuck? No. Waaaaayyyy too much blond and beige and mustard? Oh, hells yeah! In my 20′s I’d have murdered her for that outfit, but I’m a redhead and at least that would be a color break.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_VZLU6YVO4BRTELTTH3GRAAMWZQ Dot

She’s basically a pillar of yellow.

  • melanie0866

It’s a perfect dress if it’s July in Nashville, not October in NYC.  But she’s so transparent – she’s obviously trying to be a teenage, blonde Jackie Bouvier to reel in her teenage Kennedy.

    • alyce1213

Not in agreement on this — who would wear a cardigan in July in Nashville?

I consider mustard an autumn color.  I live in NYC and this dress is appropriate for early Fall, with the cardi.
I also feel she’s more channeling a Kennedy sister (Eunice-Pat-Jean), not Jackie, who wore a lot of skirts and blouses.

      • margaret meyers

Bare legs, sandals, sundress.  Nashville in July, with a cardigan for the AC.

  • maggiemaybe

She bugs the bejeebus outta me.

  • thecitysleeps

I can’t stand her fake shit schtick but that is a great dress.  Of course I then hate the shoes,  cardigan, hair and even the red lips.  Oh and her.

  • formerlyAnon

I have finally arrived at the opinion that I hate that hair. Long helmet hair is still helmet hair & is just wronger than wrong at her age.

But I like her makeup & the dress, the shoes are nice but don’t stand up to the dress. The cardigan is that thing that goes too far.

(And I don’t really get her but don’t mind her, either, though that’s aided by the fact that I rarely come across any images or mention of her in my daily life. Some of her songs are perfectly respectable pop. When played, they’ll make me think of this era in 20 years, though I might not remember who sang them or the words.)

  • TSkot

Twee or not, she looks like a million bucks.

  • Brian Hawkes

I think it’s a great outfit to be honest.  Love the gold tones.

  • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

Honestly, I want that dress AND the sweater. Like, NOW. The shoes are fugly though.

  • Judy_J

Love the dress and cardigan.  Hate the grandma sandals (and I’m a grandma!)

  • Elleachaudaucul

I think the dress is pretty and I’ll let her have cardigan, but the shoes have got to go.

  • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

    Of course.

  • http://heartprintandstyle.blogspot.com Vivi N

I would rock this outfit with a different pair of shoes.

  • LesYeuxHiboux

So. Much. Yellow. The shoes are cute but seem a bit Septuagenarian-Ballroom-Dancer to me. She just doesn’t seem like a real person anymore. That commercial for her new album Red, where she’s swinging around on drapery in a red dress? Vomit inducing.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2CNDPMVO4W23R5TVC2QMTJ5BZE Heather

I have very similar shoes (from Miz Mooz) but do NOT wear them with a yellow flowered dress and cardigan.

  • kikisayshi

Trying way too hard to be adorable. As per usual.

  • anneland

It’s totally cute. As is most of what she wears. Sweet, ladylike looks is absolutely a valid personal style. Not mine. Perfect for her.

  • http://cheekypinky.wordpress.com/ Rebecca

Green shoes, and I would say it’s a tweerq.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Louise-Bryan/1177213326 Louise Bryan

Maybe it’s twee, but so is her face.  She’s just particularly well suited to be the embodiment of twee.

  • AuntieAnonny

Hey, it could be worse, it could be on Michelle Williams.

Seriously though, I’m in love with this. Hate her haircut however.

  • neofashionista

    IRRATIONAL HATRED!!!!!!
that is all i can every think anymore when i see her it is like my swift mantra which is ashame because maybe on someone else i could like this but she just seems like a poser, a pretentious poser, ugghhh

  • nannypoo

I think my grandmother had the same shoes. I like the dress and sweater, but I wonder if she’s as sick of those bangs as we are.  And the lipstick could hardly be worse.

  • kcarb1025

Everything about her is just soooooo calculated, even though she tries to pretend otherwise. Hate.

  • http://twitter.com/emilyf007 emily

    twee. as. fuck.

  • kmk05

OMIGOD IT’S THE SOUND OF MUSIC CURTAINS. ONLY YELLOW.

Like everyone said: leather jacket, relaxed blazer, boots, whatever. Just… not these accessories, please.

  • PaulaBerman

She’s so cute that I want to punch her.

  • margaret meyers

I think what we hate about her is that she is so aware of her own beauty.  She’s enjoying her lovliness so much, making it such a full time project, that there isn’t anything left for the public (over the age of 22) to do but observe her calculating her own prettiness.  Those under 22 are busy wishing they could attain her perfection.

  • Laylalola

    Insufferable.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_UCLO5V2YD36T7QMPKOC7YXPOFU Erica

I’m going to make the pronouncement that, other than young girls, yellow outfits belong on women of color. On blond, pale girls? Twee. And I say this as a blond pale girl. But, it’s ever so slightly better than the white she usually wears.

  • patticake1601

She has conniving eyes. Seems like a sweet girl until you screw with her, then the real scheming bitchy side comes out.

I like the dress and cardi though. The shoes not so much.

  • nankipoo

It’s not the dress that’s annoying. It’s her smugness. That’s what’s getting the goats.

  • 3boysful

“I’m real fam-ous, living in a big ol’ city,
But all I’m ever gonna be is–twee”

  • lucasuk82

I love retro, but to work on a level other than twee costume, the wearer needs a bit of smirk and swagger. However, even on Angelina Jolie, the matching cardigan would be a bridge too far. Any of the pieces would be great, just not together.

  • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

i am starting to think she might secretly be a serial killer.

  • DTLAFamilies

When I was younger I would’ve worn the shit out of this outfit, even the shoes. But I’m Puerto Rican from the Bronx, I don’t have mermaid hair and I never pranced around like I wept crystal tears and farted rainbows. So on my younger self, I’d like to think this outfit wouldn’t be twee.

    • AnnPopovic

I so totally needed that laugh today!

  • Frank Li

    Twee but cute.

  • http://stitchingincircles.etsy.com Tina

I’d wear that in a hot millisecond. Gorgeous and vintage-inspired!

  • http://twitter.com/april_anita April Goff

She’s taking this whole “dating a Kennedy” thing a bit too far.

  • guest2visits

This all works on her beautifully – even the shoes look vintage-y along with the dress.  Some wear the twee and it looks like a
grown woman trying on kids cutesy clothes.   This doesn’t look remotely like that. She’s more like a model for a retro aesthetic,
and she usually gets it done right.   I am however, ready to see another shade of lipcolor, nails, etc… even thoughI know she’s
    promoting her cd ‘Red’.

  • http://TheDoseofReality.com/ The Dose of Reality

It’s adorable from head to toe! Love it!

  • oohsparkley!

It’ a great look!  I think it’s demure, not twee.

  • lalahartma

    Orla Kiely?

  • KathKo

My great aunt had a seat with the same fabric.

  • rloliveira

I think you ought to lay off. She is not one of those young women singers who, as soon as they achieve a certain age, switch to slut wear asap in order to prove they are adults. She has a demographic that is young girls; what she is saying with her wardrobe is that you can be young and beautiful and not dress like a prostitute. Leave her alone. As a mother, I think it’s refreshing to have a successful pop star communicate something other than do me now.

  • chitowndg

I think I figured out that I wish she would grow her bangs out.  Her style is “twee”, but it suits her, so I would tell her to go with it.

But if she just grew out her bangs her beautiful face could then add sophistication to her looks.

  • MaryAtRealityTea

Taylor needs to grow up. Literally. At first I thought she was just being forced to act like a teenager since her audience is mostly teens and it appealed to their likeness. But after the Kennedy teen summer romance, the weirdo interviews, the repeated silly songs, and now the constant and continual costume 1960s suburbia clothes I wonder if she really just is trapped in extended adolesence.

It’s like she make some headway, start looking cute and age appropriate, whatever – but then she regresses! Please help her. Intervention now!!!!

  • ccm800

she makes me want to punch kittens.

  • Larkin21

I *love* that dress. Still irrational dislike of her, though. No to the lip shade and to the hair.

  • Hai Yen Nguyen

Took the words right out of my mouth. TAF.
