Salma Hayek Goes Boom

Posted on October 12, 2012

Senora Salma switches up her look once again. Yesterday she was selling “Rich Bitch” like a car salesman on Labor Day and today? Well, we’re not quite sure what to call this look.

Salma Hayek makes an appearance on the ‘Wendy Williams Show’ in New York City.

Let’s just call it pretty. The dress, at least. What a fabulous color and shape for her. Love that pleated detail on the skirt – especially because it’s slightly darker than the rest of the dress. We’re suckers for a little tone-on-tone. Love the necklace, too. DETEST the shoes. Honestly, we don’t hate silly putty shoes. We think they work quite well depending on the rest of the outfit, but usually with pants and usually with pale neutrals. We hate that so many ladystars default to them as their go-to neutral, though. A pair of dark grey or black shoes would have worked so much better here. She even could’ve gone with another color, like eggplant or some sort of burnt orange shade. But the silly puttys are just so blah.

We need the kittens to tell us what to think of the hair. We’re not inclined to think that giant bangs (“booms,” we call them) work for her face, which is kind of long and angular.

I think she looks great, but the Booms need a trim.

    • http://twitter.com/marieldrucker Marie Drucker

I thought she was Lea Michele with those bangs (booms).

      • fallen_ikon

Me too. When I first glanced at the thumbnail on the front page, I thought it was Lea Michele before I read the caption.

    • Sobaika

She looks great, head to ankle.

    • BazoDee

Bangs are OK if the rest of her hair is pulled back but with it all coming forward over her face  it overwhelms her tiny features.
I’d like the shoes more if they weren’t platforms.
I don’t love the neckline of the dress with her ample chest – a v-neck or boat, or square or anything would be more flattering -this really gives her uniboob.

      • http://profiles.google.com/ameliaheartsu Amelia Logan

Square necklines also make boobs look bigger. I think V necks or deeper round necks are best for ladies with big boobs – from experience.

        • BazoDee

Well it isn’t just the boobs – it is more the fac that her boobs are wider than her back in the dress. I have this problem because I have a narrow back and I find lowering the neckline a bit essential to minimizing the effect – and squares are awesome on me, also a reverse square where it angles back towards the neck to bring the eyes back in. Different problem than say Christina Hendrix – who can’t wear squares at all. Well that’s my take on it anyway. Google America Ferrar square neckline.

          • Rrroza

just googled. Very cool. (America looks fab in that red dress!)

          • formerlyAnon

            Very educational post. Thank you.

    • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

Girl, that’s not your hair. Love the dress, hate the shoes. So neck-to-ankle win?

    • Beardslee

Great dress.  Golly but she is a beautiful woman.  I think black shoes would have been as dull as those putty colored ones.  A really dark blue or eggplant would have been interesting. Bangs don’t bother me too much.

      • julnyes

         ohhh, eggplant – yesssss.

    • dress_up_doll

Love this color on her. It’s a great look for fall. However, I would’ve love a black or even burnt orange shoe. The booms? The booms are baaaad. I hope they’re the temporary type because they look awkward and hiddy.

    • MzzPants

She ripped a picture of Lea Michelle out of a magazine and screamed at her staff, “Like this, Bitches!!!”

    • crash1212

LOVE the dress – LOVE. Hate the shoes with the white hot heat of a thousand suns. The ‘booms’ do not suit this lovely woman – AT ALL. Hate them, too. Can I just say that I admire whatever infrastructure she employs? She always has the right amount of support for her boobs and I’d just like to take a moment and appreciate that.

    • Trisha26

Salma is just showing us her Halloween look – she’s going as “conservative Lea Michele.”

    • MoHub

The hair looks like one of the wigs in Fabio’s collection

    • Janet B

Love the dress, especially the color of it.  The necklace helps alleviate the uniboob she’s working on.  The booms are okay, not bad, but not great.

I try not to judge shoes anymore since they rarely fit or are just so ugly, but I would have loved to see a purple or orange pump.

    • tereliz

Take note, Ms. Hendricks. They’ve got to be close to the same size, if not height, I’m guessing. I know Salma’s got her own fashion mogul to rely on for clothes and Christina has her Mad Men salary, but a fit and flare dress can’t be that difficult to find, right?

      • hyperionic

Same size? I’m quite sure Christina is several sizes larger.

      • MilaXX

I don’t think they are the same size. Christina is taller and hr boobs are likely proportionately larger. Salma is tiny, around 5′ 3″ I think so even though her boobs are smaller in comparison to Christina on the shorter frame , they look the same size.

    • http://twitter.com/GaraStJames Gara St. James

Beautiful dress, I’m okay with the bangs being long-ish, gives the look an air of “Oh, I just threw this on and shook my hair out, I didn’t spend hours being made up.” As for the shoes, I hate the glossy patent leather nude shoes on any star, it gives it an instant cheap look; a suede or matte leather would look better.

    • Jangle57

Bangs are ok on her but as someone who has them, I can tell you when they’re that length, they get to be annoying.

    • tallgirl1204

Hair is awful.  She has such a spectacular face, there’s no reason to hide it.

    • MilaXX

I was especially impressed by this look because she had just left Kelly & Micheal which airs at 9 am in which she wore a completely different look. (Pink dress, side parted hair, black shoes and that new bracelet you wear on your hand) and then turned up at Wendy which airs at 10am in this look. Honestly she looked pretty good on my tv. Even the bangs somehow worked. All I could think was she must have one heck of a team with her to get her from studio to studio and changed into completely different looks.

      • TieDye64

Yes, I caught a few minutes of the WW show and she looked better on tv than in the pictures. She looked younger and much prettier than what we see here.

      • formerlyAnon

Was she being introduced as Selma Hayek Pinault? That’s how she was billed and introduced on Fallon and I wondered if it was something she’s been doing, a new thing that’s being universally done, or something she’s phasing in.

(and of course, does it mean that all is not running smoothly at home & she’s soothing ruffled feathers)

Edited to correct spelling of her name.

        • MilaXX

Yes that is the name she is using now.

    • Introspective

bangs are a bit much. very in line with the bangs in my hs yearbook circa 1994. but she’s still a stunner. the dress is classic and fits perfectly. so in all I like this way more than I dislike it.

    • Judih1

The bangs DO NOT fit her face, age or style. A big NO. Dress is nice, shoes are beyond boring. How does someone so beautiful with so much money, look so wrong?

    • kirkyo

It looks fine to me but who’s looking at her hair, really?

    • PinkLemon

Bangsy with a Chance of Silly Putty

    • nannypoo

I hate her hair. I also don’t like the necklace. It looks like a prize from her dentist.

    • umeboshi

LOVE this dress. NEED it. any info on the designer?

    • LJCdoc

I swear when I saw the title, I thought her boobies had exploded or something. The hair?  You should think it’s hideous, because it is. (I do love the dress).

      • kimmeister

I should’ve read all the comments before I posted something similar.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=611638 Jessica Brams-Miller

You do know WHY it is that they all default to the silly putty shoe, right?  It’s because every stylist and fashion advice-person (except you guys) on the face of the damn planet is like “Ohmygod, you guys!!!  These silly putty shoes look sort of like skin tone and will TOTALLY elongate your leg and make you look taller!!”, completely ignoring the fact that the aforementioned silly putty shoes look like absolute shite and don’t go with anything else in the outfit.

    • pax540

      Better booms than wangs!

      • kimmeister

Um, I’m only familiar with one meaning for wang, which I’m pretty sure isn’t what you’re talking about.  What are wangs?

        • Qitkat

Bangs you are growing out so they look like wings on either side of your forehead.

        • pax540

I asked TLo to come up with a witticism for “winged bangs” (a la Jennifer Lawrence) and the result was wangs.

    • Judy_J

I may be the only disenting vote here, but I think this dress makes her look top heavy.  Yes, I know she’s a busty gal, but the bodice of this dress is just not working for me.  I do love the color and the pleating on the skirt, and I think on someone less endowed, it would look terrific.  Her sheepdog hair isn’t helping matters, either.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1401197785 Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

That’s a Rich Bitch PTA Mommy if I ever saw one. And I’ve seen a mess of ‘em, since I live in The Land Of Rich Bitch PTA Mommies.

    • random_poster

Great dress…color is exceptional on her and her rack looks fantastic.  Not a fan of the Booms.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1476648069 Scott Cooper

Nothing says fresh facial injections like a new set of bangs.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/M2D277JWFM4BUI7PWTTGYM67XI Mathilde

First reaction : WTF with her hair ? Beurk, you can barely recognize her !

    • fringebenefit

Before THE BANGS, I thought she was one of the most beautiful women in the world. That kind of self-mutilation should be against the law. Pray it’s a wig.

    • RebeccaKW

I really like this on her, but I have one issue with the fit-her chest.  I’m not sure this is the right dress for a bosomy gal.  Maybe it’s the support, but she really looks like…well, she looks like she has 2 balloons in there.  Like when a frat boy dresses as a woman for Halloween.

I think gray or bronze shoes would have been great.  Eggplant or navy, too.

    • mmc2315

Solange’s horrid dental top must have started it, but I look at Salma’s necklace here and all I can think of is TEETH. lol

    • luluransom

This is one of the most flattering dresses I’ve ever seen ehr wear. Shame about the shoes.

    • Lilithcat

The dress is fabulous.  I love the side pleat.  One of my favorite skirts has a side pleat, and I just love the way it moves.

Cannot get on board with bangs that get in your eyes.

    • Joyce VG

Good thing these pics are not in 3-D. Or 30DDD.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_YGDG5WUYES2QXPNC7BIDINE3W4 Brian

I had something completely different in mind when I read ‘goes boom’ in your headline.

    • kimmeister

I thought the title of this post was going to refer to a wardrobe malfunction with the bust of her dress.

That not being the case, the huge bangs are not working.

    • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

Lea Michele pissed her off really bad.  Yesterday Salma was on her way to kill Lea, and today she’s wearing Lea’s hair as a prize.

      • Celandine1

Oh dangit YBDGNSN! You made me choke & then spit up my chocolate oreo all over my phone. Why do I keep insisting on thing thus blog during lunch? Will I never learn?

    • Anathema_Device

The bangs are a no-go. Sorry. They remind me of when I did my bangs in the ’80s by putting a big hot roller in my bangs while I did my makeup. Dress is very pretty. LOVE the color. Agree on the need for different color shoe. I like the eggplant or orange idea, but a lovely metallic would look great, too. Like a bronze.

    • newtonGOTbeaned

I want that dress. It’s so flattering! And agreed on the bangs being too much for her tiny, tiny self.

    • http://twitter.com/MajorBedhead MajorBedhead

All I can see are boobs.

What’s up with the hair? It’s black, or very dark brown, on top, but highlighted at the bottom. Is this an ombre look gone bad or can she not afford a hairdresser?

It’s a great dress, but man. Boobs. Lots and lots of boobs.

    • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

Her hair is a mess.  It’s dry on the ends.  It’s frizzy.  She needs to pull it back. And wear a richer shade of lipstick.

      • MilaXX

I suspect the neutral face to make it easier to hop from show to show. Seeing it on tv the face actually looked pretty good.

    • Qitkat

I wore bangs like this in the ninth grade. I cut them shorter after being called out by a friend for blowing them upwards off my face since they bugged so much (yes, really, I was such a dork). So NO. Love the dress, you don’t see this color very much.

    • altalinda

      No to the booms.

    • PeaceBang

I don’t love the bangs but I love the everything else. She makes ME go Boom. That dress is so beautiful on her.

    • victoria rodeno

Booms are too boomy. Trim, girl trim. The girls look a little too confined too. Let me out, let me out!!!!

    • frannyprof

Hate the booms. But the dress is very pretty. Love the color on her.

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

I think she looks great, full stop. I’ll take that dress in a size #, please.

    • sk8tfan

Love everything except the booms. She has such a pretty face she shouldn’t hide it like that. Everything else looks great.

    • Jennifer Coleman

Those bangs are draggy, sorry. Lovely dress.

    • unbornfawn

I’m not liking the hair. It looks like she got up in frustration about half way through styling it.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/2LIE6ISFQUBIAO7OB6U5TAVXXQ Depot'er

My first thought was ‘off the rack at Macy’s/Bloomingdales/etc….’ is it me? but she can get hotter stuff?

    • Judy_S

Agree about the dress, agree about the shoes, hate the bangs. Hate the hair, period. It looks like a slipping wig.

    • Kate4queen

So pretty. I love that colour on her.

    • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

hi salma, i love your dress.  what happened to your hair?

    • http://profiles.google.com/dwight.lake Dwight Lake

      Rachel Berry with boobs

    • http://www.facebook.com/sara.m.hottman Sara Hottman

Love the dress, do not love the wig. Hair? Wig.

    • http://twitter.com/babsaffolter thatshowwegetants

Ugh.  I hate when dress or shirt fabric does the awful, alchemal thing with bra fabric to make my boobs shiny.  There needs to be a way of curing this (other than the obvious “wear a slip” thing.)

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1149383598 Jane Strain

The boom-booms look like they are going to burst the seems of that dress if she takes a deep breath.  The color is pretty, and the bangs are OK.  There are many much better dresses for her figure.  She looks great from the side shot, but the front shots of the dress resemble a cartoon character.  Goodness, I wish I had her figure issues.

    • SewingSiren

The bodice on that dress looks like it’s getting ready to go boom.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

This look is called: I should really get rid of these Jessica Biel bangs.

    • http://www.lippsisters.com/ Deborah Lipp

Hate the hair. I never feel like she manages to overcome stump. She’s short, but she isn’t stumpy and she shouldn’t look it. She hasn’t managed balancing hem length with boobage.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1208138556 Sara Munoz Munoz

She doesn’t have the right hair type for those bangs.

    • Imasewsure

Oh that’s a boom… hate it on her but gorgeous from brow to ankle

    • http://twitter.com/sewcraftful SewCraftful

I saw her promoting her makeup on the Rachel Ray show. She was wearing awkward shoes then AND it was clear she had no ideal how to apply makeup-she mumbled and bumbled along. Her face isn’t very womanly and the bangs just make her look worse. Sorry. Three thumbs down.

    • kittenwithaquip

There’s something weirder than “booms” going on with her hair. Is it extensions, a wig, or that silly “ombre” trend? Her hair seems to be going from an almost blue-black to a honeyed brown.

Oh, and great: I think I have what you would classify as “booms”.

    • http://www.facebook.com/suzie.vazquez Suzie Vazquez

I cant do long bangs so stars shouldnt either. Makes me feel them in my eyes.

    • ChelseaNH

      Nay to the booms.

    • BuffaloBarbara

I kind of like the booms, though she’ll need to trim them in approximately seven minutes.  I’ve rocked some booms myself, and I’m too lazy to keep them–they stay the perfect boom length for a few days, then I have to either trim or get out my stash of barrettes.  The barrettes are well-used.

I love the color and shape of the dress, but something seems just off about, like it’s thisclose to being fabulous, but isn’t quite there.  Maybe it’s the kind of dull tank-top shape of the top?

But if that great green is in this season, I am going shopping and stocking up against the next dry spell.  I will also be buying many full skirts, if I can scrimp up some money.  Maybe a full skirt in this green.  Because I just know that in a few months, it’ll all be lemon-lime pencil skirts, and I best get while the getting is good… wait, you mean I’m not supposed to stockpile clothes specifically to wear after they go out of fashion?

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1271881580 Jennifer Trosky Dinalo

To me her bangs make her look like Winona Ryder in Beetlejuice. Not a good look for her. Though the dress really does look fabulous on her!

    • boweryboy

Oooooh…ombre burnt orange pointy toed pumps would have elevated this.

Hate the bangs. It makes her hair look like a wig.

    • Verascity

I hate her hair, but I LOVE that dress, oh my God.

    • quiltrx

I would call this “I don’t have to try very hard to look better than Wendy Williams’ fake self.”

And I need to see the booms a little less disheveled before I make up my mind.

    • amf0001

speaking as a large busted gal  – those necklines are not flattering to her girls,  she needs a scoop or a v to cut up all that space,  it makes her look chunky otherwise.  But it’s a great color.

    • http://twitter.com/Alloyjane Alloy Jane

LOVE/WANT that dress.  The hair looks like a wig so no thanks.  Please donate those shoes to the Goodwill.  And seriously, why does her hair look so unnatural?  Yikes.

    • PaulaBerman

      I’m pretty sure that’s a wig..

    • Contralto

Not crazy about the booms, hate the shoes, but good Lord is she gorgeous.

    • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

The booms are…. okay.  They’re a different look for her, let’s say. The dress is okay, I hate the Silly Putty shoes.  This is all just very “okay” for me, which is not how a person should describe Salma.

    • Puckndc

She’d be hot even if she wore a potato sack..let’s face it..

    • Karen Maslowski

See, she is a perfect example of wearing nude shoes to elongate her legs. I know, they’re ugly, but they do help to keep her from stumpification.

The hair bothers me. Like someone said, too Lea Michele.

    • NCDFan

      Hair is hideous. Just no.

    • http://TheDoseofReality.com/ The Dose of Reality

Her dress is lovely and looks fantastic on her. and I actually don’t even dislike the nude shoe here (I know!! I can’t believe it either). Here necklace reminds me of a cartoon drawing of a molar, but I can overlook that.  But the booms…oh, honey NO!! I cannot unsee those. She is *such* a beautiful woman…but those are not her friend. TOTALLY unflattering. Poor thing, there is nothing worse than growing out bangs/booms. :(      (I was praying that was a wig, but I don’t think they make wigs that ugly)

    • formerlyAnon

She’s so lovely the hair effectively doesn’t matter. I don’t dislike the bangs but she isn’t one of those gals who look their best in them either.

Dress is lovely and *I’d* call it a relatively discreet way of saying “Yes, yes I AM gorgeous and I DO have a slammin’ bod.”

I agree with & defer to the experienced better-endowed experts on the blog about what changes to the neckline would have improved the look. (Though I gotta say, enormous uni-boob is restful after the daily parade of maximally enhanced cleavage.)

Hope the necklace has some kind of emotional value to her because I think it’s either ugly or graceless or both, taken purely as a decorative object.

    • watchmeboogie

Ooh, I really hate that boom with her facial structure. No me gusta.

    • http://www.facebook.com/james.wurm.1 James Wurm

She OWNED bangs with her look from Savages. **Spoiler** it was a wig, but who didn’t believe that was her hair?

    • pookiesmom

Hate the shoes, hate the bangs, LOVE the dress and necklace.

    • Bethany Fairbrother

Hate the bangs.  Hate the shoes.  Miss the real Selma. This trophy wife thing is going to kill her.

    • ThaliaMenninger

Dress looks great (like the girl who went to the dance in the gym in West Side Story grew up and got rich and came back to show all those jokers what they’re missing) but the bangs and the ratty hair need serious work.

    • unbornfawn

Maybe she’s trying to do Lea Michele?

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1355527007 Rain Jezek

The hair is terrible. Looks like a bad wig.

    • http://twitter.com/MarfMom Maya

      i. want. that. dress.  it’s beautiful! but, the hair has got to go. no booms for salma.

    • http://twitter.com/Au_yeaah Audrey

BOOB. all i see here are uni-boob, and its a problem. the dress is a gorgeous color and is simple, she should have spiced things up with a fun shoe.

    • http://www.facebook.com/izzzyy Dixie Murphy Ross

In, love it all except the shoes and the booms

    • guest2visits

The dress looks pretty great on her and I could take or leave the bangs-look.  Agree about the shoes.

    • GorgeousThings

I’d call it “Lea Michele in 2032″

    • Larkin21

The dress is gorgeous, especially on her. Not a fan of the bangs, or the hair styling in general.

    • http://twitter.com/chylde chylde

Oy…On What Not To Wear they’re always going on about nude shoes and how they elongate the leg. You know that’s why those lady stars all wear them, right?

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/DNWEFT2SVBX5T3NPMROQCT4U2U jennyv

Not a fan of the booms. Everything else looks great though.

    • librarygrrl64

      Hate the bangs.

    • http://cheekypinky.wordpress.com/ Rebecca

Pretty–I like the big ass bangs–I think they make her look younger.

    • Dagney

Love the bangs.  And I want her boobs for a day, just for a fun bikini shopping excursion.

    • http://profiles.google.com/hillaryschuster Hillary Schuster

Don’t love the hair but whatever.

As for the shoes, don’t ladystars wear them b/c they supposedly match their legs and, thus, make their legs look longer? Salma’s skin is darker than these shoes.

    • Tina

I have no idea what you are rambling about. I think the shoes are a great choice as neutral allows for the interest to be focused on the dress rather than her feet. You crazy. But agreed with the bangs, they are a little poofy.
