Olivia Wilde in Rome

Posted on October 15, 2012

With nothing but a string of red carpet looks on the plate for today, we got to the end of our early-morning editorial meeting and said to each other, “We really need to find a gal wearing normal clothes.” It makes for a nice palate-cleanser in the middle of a bunch of gowns.

Olivia? Please step forward.

Olivia Wilde takes a tour of Rome while in town to film her new movie ‘Third Person.’

Proenza Schouler PS1 Satchel Bag

We’re not going to pretend that this is all that note-worthy from a style perspective, just that she looks good dressed down. Love the bag and love the boots. Even in jeans and a long-sleeved T, she still looks like a movie star.

Having experienced pickpockets in Rome, I am happy to see she has her purse crossed, and hand firmly placed… and… she looks cute.

  • And she’s not carrying the loaner bag so it can be seen from orbit.  Kudos for that.  Who knows, maybe she actually BOUGHT that one?

    • tereliz

If there is any luxury bag worth shelling out the big bucks for, it is this style of the PS1. God, how I covet this exact bag. Some day I’ll be able to justify the expense—like, it’ll be the last satchel I ever buy, right? 😉

      • Oh, of course it will, because you are always prudent with your money, are you not?  And buying high quality is always a fine idea.

      • kschwarting

I have a satchel (OK, two) that is similarly styled that I bought from Fluevog.  Great quality, but a much more reasonable price point.

Love their bags!!! Frye makes a good one, also.

    • I so need that bag…

    • themandy

In the grand scheme of designer bags, the PS1 is inexpensive. Bet she owns that one.

  • Violina23

Fashionable over the shoulder bag… want… WANT!

  • The only movie I have seen her in was AWFUL, and yet I really like her. And I like a girl who looks quite comfy wandering around in normal clothes.

    • tereliz

Me, too. It seems like she gets these roles where she’s supposed to be eye-candy, and nothing deeper is asked of her. She had a small part in BUTTER, and despite playing a stripper with an ax to grind (metaphorically), she injected the role with humor and a crass sort of wit. I’d love to see her play a character with more heart.

She was quite smart and funny on “The Daily Show” the other night.

    • Carla_Charlton

Recently I saw her as herself on a PBS show with Nicholas Kristof from the NYTimes and I was impressed with her thoughtfulness.  She seemed genuinely interested in the plight of the women she was visiting and not in a “I’m-doing-this-for-the-pr” kind of way.  Also, she appeared to be bare-faced and you could see how beautiful she is.

  • tereliz

She looks comfortable, appropriate, casual… I’d never mistake her for an Italian (style-wise), but she looks great here!

  • kimmeister

She looks great.  The bag looks stylish and functional.  I just hope this movie better than Cowboys & Aliens. . .

  • I have eyebrow envy. And handbag envy.

She looks great. Casual, normal and great.

  • ccinnc

Love her jeans – anyone know the brand? Looks like a bird in flight on the back pocket.

    • ccinnc

Once again, Google is my friend. They’re MiH.

    •  I think they’re MiH — they use a dove symbol as their insignia.  The boots look like Acne to me.

  • Call me Bee

She just looks like a stylish 20-something running errands on her day off.  With a $2000 handbag.

  • MilaXX

Love this for the sheer normalcy of it all. She looks like a total non celeb tourist in Rome.

    • l_c_ann

And like all non-celeb tourists, her strong pocket book strap is over her shoulder and across her body to try to prevent purse snatchings.  Smart woman.

  • Judy_S

I enjoy this, but I was thinking that sunglasses are a better disguise for her than for most actresses. Her eyes are so distinctive.

  • WANT the boots

    • tereliz

They are cute, aren’t they? And they must be moderately comfy… from the pics you can tell she wears them often. Acne?

  • I’ve been looking for a new purse to invest in (the last one I got many seasons ago still gets many compliments, but I think I need to give it a rest…)  But ouch- looking at that price, I just think I might not want to splurge right now…

  • granddelusion

Why does anyone who’s not going out of town for the weekend need a bag that big?

    • Kate4queen

I have been known to carry my lap top, my iPad and a notebook in my bag, plus the usual stuff, so sometimes big is better. 🙂 Not sure if she needs to do this, however. LOL

    • MissAmynae

I’d keep a camera and bottle of water…maybe a book in case I found a nice quiet space.

  • formerlyAnon

    I WANT those boots.

Too bad I can’t justify moving boots like that from the “want” to the “need” list.

  • guest2visits

Easy going and cute, I like the glasses and the boots best.

  • JDreesen

refreshing look – of course, i saw the post title and thought “Rome” was a dress maker, so it was a double-win for me to see a WOTS bit instead.

  • Teri Brinson

She looks great, casual and comfortable. Add me to the list of people who adore that bag.

  • librarygrrl64

    That bag is fantastic!

  • piecesofconfetti

    BAG ENVY!!!

  • TieDye64

God, I love that bag so hard. Nice casual look.

  • Candigirl1968

I appreciate that this looks like what a normal human being would wear when running around.  It’s put together casual and doesn’t scream “my outfit costs more than your car!!!!”
