Naomi Watts in Target

Posted on October 18, 2012

You read that right. But hey, it’s a Target party, isn’t it?

Naomi Watts attends the celebration of Target’s 50th Anniversary in New York City in a Helmut Lang jacket, Target shirt and 3×1 jeans.

Besides, we think she looks really cute in a casual sort of way. We can’t get a good look at what she’s wearing on her feet, but the shape of it’s not working for us. Whatever they are, we’re sure they’d be fine if she was out running errands, but she did such a good job of zhuzhing up that simple little top (although we wish she’d tied the sash – is she preggers?) with the jacket and the cuff, that we can’t help thinking a cute little pair of ballet flats or boots with some color to them would have taken this look somewhere close to perfect.

This is the kind of situation where I personally would have deployed my purple suede ankle boots, because they are fabulous and this outfit is crying for something vibrant to kick it up a notch.

ETA: That jacket is fabulous and I would trade my hypothetical firstborn for it in a heartbeat.

I need to get that Helumt Lang jacket to go with MY Target blouse too.  ..NdoQEsB.TK

Simple but chic. I agree that ballet flats would have been a tad bit cuter.

Target actually has a lot of cute ballet flats right now too :)

  • NC_Meg

I love it but agree, different shoes would have been better. The shirt is so cute.

It’s cute – another “real world” look. Speaking of which, I’m heading to Target to get that top.

  • CozyCat

Yep.  I need to get that Helumt Lang jacket to go with MY Target blouse too.

Understated and chic, very sweet.  I love spots, so I looked up the blouse — $23!  Something I can afford, finally.

I heart Target so much.  The Converse jeans I got there on clearance for like $9 look 3x better than the jeans I splurged on from Citizens of Humanity.

Please tell me that blazer is also Target. It looks like a Balmain blazer I’ve been coveting since I tried it on during FNO.

She probably is pregnant – she and her husband seem to be a very fertile couple!

She does look cute as can be. If she had borrowed Kate Winslet’s pointy boots, we would really have something going on here.

Same event that Christa B. Allen wore the black swan gown, that was posted here the other day?  This looks way too casual compared to hers.  One of them didn’t get the dress code memo. ( I suspect it was Naomi…she thought she was gonna be doing some shopping at Target…;))

    Target Top – $39.99
Helmut Lang Jacket – $6 zillion dollars
Confounding T&Lo with your blasé choice of footwear – Priceless

  • MilaXX

What gives with this party? Christa B. Allen wore a gown and Naomi just wandered in from Home Depot? Apparently the celebs were confused about the dress code as well.

Sometimes — and maybe this isn’t fair to say, but I’ve found it to be true — going the Target route really can work, but you have to just kind of accept that you almost certainly are going to compromise on some point (by which I mean, an odd shape, or in this case, maybe a sash that falls in an extremely odd place or way).

She looks cute. I like her casual. Maybe my unfounded distaste for her is based solely on her inability to look good on the red carpet.

The jacket may be a big name piece, but it hangs just as awkwardly as a cheap jacket would. I can see the outlines of the shoulder pads, and the rest of the jacket droops limply from them. I’d be a helluva lot more charmed by Naomi wearing Target like the rest of us plebes if she didn’t look like she’d been photographed in mid-eyeroll in every shot.

  • Call me Bee

    Ppphhh–like she sjops at Target.

  • Mary229

Cute outfit.   Why is it though that whenever I see these Target pieces on celebrities they always look awesome but then when I eventually locate them myself they look terrible? haha.  Probably because I don’t have the jacket :)

  • Anathema_Device

Wait, is this the same event that other woman wore a stapless, sparkly, evening dress to? That’s quite the fashion gamut.

I like this look a lot. LOVE that blouse, but I agree that she should have tied it.

    • Jennifer Coleman

I kind of hate those little strings that Target insists on attaching to their tops. They never fall right on me and I usually ditch them for something more substantial or do what Naomi did & wear the top loose.

  • librarygrrl64

    That top is adorable!

Cheap fabric is not photogenic on the RC

  • PeaceBang

Yes, the shoe situation is wanting. But she’s so peaches and cream and the rest of the outfit is fresh and cute, and she looks like she’s waiting for an angel to drop down on her or something. What’s with the heavenward gaze, Miss Watts?

  • Candigirl1968

The shoe might be better w a heel, so the pant and shoe didn’t blend together.  That having been said, it’s a great outfit, and one that women of all price points could replicate, and look quite stylish doing so!

  • DesertDweller79

So, what you’re saying is, all I need to make my Target clothes look cute is clothes by Helmut Lang to cover them up with?

  • decormaven

Clean, simple look. Being an accessories kind of gal, though, I’d like to have seen some earrings. Target has some fun pieces, if she was trying to keep it mostly brand-specific.

  • lucasuk82

Not just Target, but Merona, which is their label that’s been around forever and seems a bit more meaningful than one of the designers “for Target” labels.  Might have been a bit more meaningful without the bitch-face. I also really like the background, but I’m sucker for old advertising images that pre-date the domination of Helvetica.
