Kirsten Dunst & Viggo Mortensen in Athens, Shooting “The Two Faces of January”

Posted on October 18, 2012

Kirsten Dunst and Viggo Mortensen look absolutely freaking stunning in these on-set shots from the filming of “The Two Faces of January” at the Acropolis in Athens. It’s rare for us to feel this way, because we’re cynical bitches who work very hard not to have stars in their eyes, but you look at pictures like this and it’s hard not to sigh and momentarily think “God, it must be nice to be a movie star.”

The movie thriller, based on the Patricia Highsmith novel of the same name, opens in December 2013. We don’t even care what it’s about; we’re going just to see the clothes.

am i crazy, or is viggo giving off a jeremy irons vibe here?

    • MilaXX

Jeremy Irons during the Brideshead Revisited years.

      • call_me_schmeg

        EXACTLY!!!

      • http://twitter.com/MajorBedhead MajorBedhead

Oh, THAT must be why I’m all a-quiver. I loved that mini-series.

        • lovelyivy

A-quiver is a great word for this feeling. Mmmm Jeremy Irons…

        • MilaXX

I named my cat Aloysious after the teddy bear Tristan had.

          • http://www.facebook.com/lenoradody Lenora Dody

             Hey, so did I!!!

          • MilaXX

you should see the looks I get when people ask his name & I tell them.

          • http://www.facebook.com/lenoradody Lenora Dody

Yes, me too! Also just the people who can’t pronounce it at all.

          • Susan_El

Agree with the “Brideshead Revisited” vibe.  While I don’t have a cat named Alyosius (Iwish I’d thought of that before I named mine Rudolph Valentino…), I did just rewatch the original series, the recent remake (not bad…but not anywhere near as good as the original) and reread the book, so will respectfully interject that the name of Jeremy Irons’ youthful love interest is Sebastian Flyte, not Tristan.  However, Tristan’s just as good a name and in full keeping with the character.

          • MilaXX

oh good gravy, where did I get Tristan from? I have the weirdest brainfarts.

          • emcat8

We all knew who you meant!

        • http://mothereseblog.com/ Kristen @ Motherese

Viggo makes me all a-quiver. Full stop.

    • QuincyTKatz

Am I crazy, or is Kristen looking JUST like Kim Catrall?

      • Jessica Goldstein

Totally. You beat me to it, but that was my very first thought.

      • http://www.facebook.com/AdriannaGrezak Adrianna Grężak

Totally thought that. Same facial expression in the 3rd picture

        • H3ff

          NAILED it.

      • boomchicabowwow

Maybe…but I have to give Kirsten props for (from a very young age) acting on a whole ‘nother level than Ms. Catrall.  Not that Kim isn’t wonderful!

      • H3ff

I wasn’t going to write it myself but YES!!

  • Sobaika

    She looks STUN-NING. Damn.

  • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Nothing like impeccable tailoring and dress making to start your day off right, especially when its teamed up with two gorgeous human beings to show it all off.

    • GorgeousThings

And oooo, what I wouldn’t give to get smooched by Viggo Mortensen!

      • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Well, yeah, there is THAT, too.

        • bitchybitchybitchy

Can we share Viggo? Think about it….

          • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

I will give him up, for you.

    • http://profiles.google.com/gillianholroyd gillian holroyd

ooo, but sit up straight chile. Unless she was in character.

    • boomchicabowwow

I think it’s also the kismet of two poweful acting talents.  In fact, if you look at Kirsten and Viggo analitically, with no photoshop or soft focus, you’ll find that they both look (at least at bottom) like everyday, ordinary people.  It’s the force of their TALENT that makes them magnetic…and  love BOTH OF THEM for it.

      • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

You’re quite right, of course. Kirsten is a rather conventionally pretty girl, when all is said and done, and Viggo, though very appealing, is not a conventionally handsome man, which makes him more interesting.

  • Knightley

    Oh Aragorn.  Le sigh.

    • http://kingderella.tumblr.com/ kingderella

      perfect all around. *swoon*

    • http://surelysonsy.blogspot.com/ Jessica | Surely Sonsy

      my thoughts exactly….!

  • rskapcat

She uncannily resembles Kim Cattrall in the third shot down. I actually thought that’s who it was. :-

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3KCDEX4FOTCFHZP6WLKSOOKUVM Danielle

I think so too, in pretty much every shot.  Even knowing it’s Kirsten Dunst, I keep seeing Kim.

  • newleaf1

    SO Elegant.  Sigh.

  • DaveUWSNYC

    Samantha Jones, The Early Years

    • tallgirl1204

My thoughts exactly.  At first glance, I thought she was a better-styled Kim Cattrall!

  • MilaXX

    So much pretty!

  • Jessi03

    Gorgeous!  Can I be Kirsten?

  • ballerinawithagun

Wow! Kirsten Dunst looks great when she is costumed as a grown-up. See what wearing a good bra can do for your figure??? Perfection in tailoring. Love the different shades of white that mimic the marble at the Acropolis.
    Thank you TLo!

    • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

That was exactly my reaction! “Wow – that bra is great!”

    • SaoirseLee

Me too, her bewbs look amazing! Love, love that dress on her.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

In my pretend life, that’s exactly how I dress.

    • Janet B

Me too, and of course while on vacation.

      • notterriblybitter

And my pretend husband looks just like Viggo.

  • theblondette

Oh my goodness, those costumes! HEARTS IN MY EYES

  • Lisa Dugan

    Fabulous and Glamorous!

  • jilly_d

Dear Jesus, there is so much win in these photos.

  • sanja_ramic

They both look great. I’m always struck with an overwhelming sense of nostalgia when I see people so impeccably dressed, I know it’s completely impractical but I kind of wish people looked this put-together all the time, and hats, bring back hats. Needless to say I too will be seeing this film just for the clothes.

    • Little_Olive

I get that too! I long for that. Can’t people see that a reasonable dose of beauty makes your life better? Dressing nicely (clean, ironed, elegant, does not have to be expensive) is a sign of respect for yourself and others.
My aesthetic sense makes me actually physically uncomfortable when I’m around too much flip-floppery, muscle tees, 3/4 slouchy pants, visible underwear and the like.

    • http://phantomminuet.blogspot.com/ MinAgain

I love that way of dressing, which is why I still wear hats.  A lot.  To church, to weddings and funerals, sometimes even to work.  And I like stuff that matches, dammit.

      • kimmeister

Amen to that!  I have my eye on this fabulous teal hat to add to my extensive collection . . .

  • http://twitter.com/Kathy_Marlow aka Darth Mommy

They both look AMAZING.  Love the styling!

  • Pants_are_a_must

You wanna talk about actors who drink virgin blood and eat unicorns for breakfast? Let’s talk about Viggo Mortensen and how he’s STILL scorchingly hot.

    • http://twitter.com/janedonuts Jane Donuts

Seriously. A serious panty dropper, that one. Top 5 for sure.

    • eowyn_of_rohan

I know!  And he actually lets himself age and doesn’t try to look like he’s 35 instead of 54 (I’m rounding up, his birthday is Saturday).  Talk about some great genes.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Isabeau-Mochrie/1580631451 Isabeau Mochrie

Happy birthday, Viggo!  Now get your gorgeous self over here and let me give you your birthday present!

  • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

That cleft in his chin makes me go all woozy.  Oh, and the costumes are great, too.  I’ll have to read some Patricia Highsmith; so many of her novels have been made into really good movies (“The Talented Mr. Ripley”, “Strangers on a Train”).  Maybe a good choice for Halloween!

  • lbl

Gorgeous. I’m with you on seeing it no matter how it turns out, but the plot honestly does sound interesting.

The fourth picture down, Kirsten reminds me of someone, but I can’t figure out who.

  • http://www.facebook.com/bert.keeter Bert Keeter

Sorry…She looks like an 90′s chick going to church down south…HATE her hat….all wrong. He’s a bit better. …..

    • l_c_ann

Except, Bert, down south there is a large part of the year when the hat needs to be functional, or heat stroke ensues.  Which (according to friends who’ve been to the Parthenon) is what the heat is like there, as well.

    • Little_Olive

Cameron Diaz in My Best Friend’s Wedding :s

  • http://twitter.com/MajorBedhead MajorBedhead

Oh, happy sighs. What a nice way to start my Thursday.

  • Barbara Woodruff

And look, Viggo is wearing stylish clothes and shoes! Shoes that he hasn’t owned for the last 20 years. Of course, it’s because it’s a costume for a character, but still. I love the guy, but he definitely has what can charitably be called an idiosyncratic personal style. Characters tend to rub off on him, though, so maybe we’ll see him looking stylish on the red carpet when they’re pole dancing for this movie.

I read about this movie and it definitely sounds intriguing.

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

I refer to that sort of personal style as Ireallydon’tgiveashitwhatIwearish, style

  • alyce1213

    Viggo cleans up nice.

  • decormaven

Happy sigh! Minor quibble- the fingers on the gloves in shot #5 look unusually large. I would think the gloves’ fingers would be more tapered, with seaming in them. These look like mitten fingers. Other than that, the costuming is gorgeous. Who is the cinematographer for this film? The light should be amazing.

  • Vanja

That light is so flattering. I love his suit, it’s a great colour.

  • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

    Gorgeous! I want her dress!

  • Anathema_Device

A little Viggo before breakfast? Talk about the breakfast of champions! Thank you T Lo!

These shots almost look like a beautiful editorial. The palette and setting are gorgeous.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/BJTY6KY7LOR7MDOD6QCZUC3VVI Donna Tabor

I so wish people would still dress this way every day, instead of in baggy shirts, ass-crack jean/jamas, and flip-flops. Sigh.

    • Lilithcat

I so agree!  But then, I got my idea of what to wear when traveling from Eva Marie Saint in North by Northwest.

  • aristida_girl

Impeccable styling, beautiful clothes, and Viggo! I am so there….

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1401197785 Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

Perfection. They both look amazing. And yes, I’m swooning over the ever-delicious Viggo.

  • Little_Olive

Not the best hat for her face but all in all… just  :)

    • l_c_ann

I would guess that a major part of the audience will glance at her, say “really nice dress” and then zero in on Viggo.  And stay zeroed in on Viggo.

  • http://twitter.com/tangodiva Tanya Wade

He hasn’t looked that good in forever. She looks like a delicious cone of lemon sherbet. My ticket is bought.

  • mjude

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_VZLU6YVO4BRTELTTH3GRAAMWZQ Dot

Lovely pictures! They seem to have great chemistry. Having been to the Acropolis, I’m impressed that Kiki is traipsing about up there in heels. Surely she didn’t make the trek up while wearing them, but its impressive nonetheless.

  • http://twitter.com/lenabena_ Elena

When I saw these photos yesterday, I knew T Lo had to comment on them! The clothes are fabulous.

  • miagain

Can you imagine climbing all over the Acropolis in those shoes….
But man alive, don’t they look fantabulous!!

  • Judy_S

Well, they’re actors, so they make climbing around the Acropolis in the sunshine in white clothes and heels into something you wish you were doing. On the other hand, from what I’ve read of Patricia Highsmith, I suspect  they will in other scenes be making you wish very much you were NOT them, wardrobes and all…

  • http://profiles.google.com/gillianholroyd gillian holroyd

Have already posted this on my To See list but Patricia Highsmith? This will not end well.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1476648069 Scott Cooper

    She has never looked lovlier.

  • Baditude

*Gasp* They got to actually walk through the Parthenon!!!! So jealous!

Oh and the clothes are beautiful too.

  • Cathy S

    Fabulous.

  • RzYoung

Kim Catrall, i swore it was Kim Catrall!

  • http://twitter.com/cornekopia Shawn EH

Those are outfits just waiting for some stains.

  • jenno1013

    Her shoes!  So ladylike, dainty.

  • StellaZafella

    Gorgeous…both of them.
I think it’s the hats and the suit but, not being familiar with the novel itself, my narrow frame of reference asks me:”When does David Suchet make his entrance as Hercule Poirot?” It’s meant as a compliment, the costumes, lighting and all put me in mind of any of the A Christie star turns like Death on the Nile.

  • http://www.facebook.com/seelebrennt Christina Diaz

she looks lovely and he is sex personified.

  • librarygrrl64

Well, HE certainly cleans up well, doesn’t he? They both look delicious.

  • anotherkate

She should do her hair like that all the time!

  • http://phantomminuet.blogspot.com/ MinAgain

I think I actually owned those shoes in the late 70′s.

  • tereliz

WOW! Viggo has totally restored my faith in him. Last red carpet pics of him that were featured here were NOT pretty.

  • http://viridianpostcard.blogspot.com/ viridian61

Oh my look at the texture in that marble, says the geologist here.
OK great clothes and movie stars too.
    Must look for this novel.

  • studioslave

LORD! look at that jawline in the last pic!

  • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

So, is this a throwback to the midcentury movies where the woman’s husband is old enough to be her father?

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2CNDPMVO4W23R5TVC2QMTJ5BZE Heather

Are they meant to be husband and wife? Or just lovers?

      • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

I wiki’d the book it’s based on and it seems like they’re married.
Even if they were just lovers, a 53 year old and a 30 year old is still kind of a large age difference.
ETA: Then again, I can never really see him as sexy again since going to college with his son.

  • kschwarting

I am coveting that sheath!  I have just the accessories to go with it.

  • kimmeister

LOVE her hat, dress, and hairstyle.  I couldn’t pull off that dress, but the hat, heck yeah!

  • littlemac8

Right on brothers, TLo!   Location – costumes – starts…all reasons to hit the opening!!

That purse is causing me serious ennui because I don’t have one.

  • baxterbaby

I am always struck by (here I am, channeling my mother) what a lovely figure K. Dunst has.  I usually shows up best when she’s well costumed, but she has great proportions!

  • ChelseaNH

My main complaint about the clothes is that Viggo is wearing too many of them.

  • neofashionista

    Gorgeous

  • bitchybitchybitchy

Who cares about the plot when Viggo’s in the cast? MIrite?

  • PrunellaV

I like him a little more rough-hewn, but that’s the best she has ever looked.

  • Wendi126

Just watched Melancholia the other night in which she starred and had a few upper body nude shots . She can really act, and well, well her tits are spectacular.

  • http://twitter.com/iraki86 IraKi

The Acropolis is such a beautiful place! *sigh*

    Lovely.  Just lovely.

The only thing that could make me like the Acropolis more is Viggo standing beside it.

  • PeaceBang

I just died the death. Kiki looks amazing but Viggo is a freaking revelation!!

  • BayTampaBay

I love that dress!  I want that dress.  Does anyone know who made it and/or where I can get it.

  • guest2visits

I’m for anything Viggo is appearing in. Never disappoints.
I want better shoes for Kirsten, otherwise everyone looks great.

Kirsten looks the best I have seen her in ages. I mean to say, she looks unbelievably beautiful. Wow.

  • AngelaGreen

That girl, I swear.  She and I have the same exact birthdate to the year, and she keeps getting to make out (or at least interact with) all the male stars I want to snuggle up on.

SWOON!  Jayzus, he’s gorgeous.  She looks fab too.  Recently watched Marie Antoinette again – she was so good in that.

  • ccm800

Dunst looks amazing in her pale yellow top to bottom hair included monochrome.

  • Judi Townsend

Did Kiki get a new head of hair? Her hair looks so much thicker than what it looks like in real life

  • lalahartma

SO nice to see Viggo cleaned up!

You’re right they are beautiful together.
