Katy Perry in Wes Gordon

Posted on October 26, 2012

Y’know? We’ve gotta give it to Miss Katy. There’s something sort of elegant and California-chic about this look, and she’s pulling it off quite well.

Katy Perry attends CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Event in Los Angeles, California in Wes Gordon.

Wes Gordon Spring 2013 Collection

The hair’s a little weird and the shoes, while fabulous, are probably a bit heavy for the look. But that’s not an easy dress to make work and she’s managing it; or at least, she would be if she’d just smooth it out a bit. She just needs to pull her hair back and off her face, put on a colorful or glittery pair of sandals, and maybe slap on a simple cuff – or better yet, a cocktail ring. Then she’d be perfect in our eyes. And darlings, isn’t that what it’s all about? Being perfect in the eyes of T Lo?

But seriously: cute – and more important to us, interesting – dress. It would make a great start to a great look. As it is, it’s a great start to a merely-good look.

  • I love this dress! Wish it was mine.

  • Sobaika

Oooo she looks great even if not styled to perfection. And that’s something, considering I never really like what this gal wears, cupcake crazy or no.

  • IAmJ

Agree about the hair and the shoes. I love the dress, but I think it’s a bit too tight on her in the midsection. But hey, this is a sophisticated look for Miss Katy so props for that.

  • I don’t see why she couldn’t have gone a size up and not worn the same shoes as the model. It’s doing weird things to the swan’s head because it is pulling over her boobs.

    • RebeccaKW

Yea, it’s a bit tight.  That always seems strange to me, why you’d want your clothes to be that tight.  I can’t imagine anyone wanting people to look at them and think ‘her dress is too small.’  We know you have a great body, Katy!  It also looks uncomfortable.  Hard to breathe, hard to walk, hard to sit.    Then again, given most of what she wears, I guess comfort is not a requirement for her.

      •  I’d bet they went for the tight look to corral the boobs.

        •  I think you are right. So they really should have given her a different dress, if that one can’t accommodate a bra.

      • GSMSF

Too bad those boobs are strangling the goose.  Or swan.

      • mountainFashionista

My brain read this as, “Yea, it’s a tit bite.”

        Which also makes sense!

        • kimmeister

That sounds like an afternoon snack for babies.

  • I feel like I’d like this more if it were a maxi dress. Still pretty fab though.

  • Deb_Lynn

let this be a lesson to Bjork on how to properly deploy a swan dress

    • Pants_are_a_must

Oh no you didn’t. Bjork did wacky fashion better than all the pop stars right now combined, and she did it while being nominated for an Oscar. Bow down and repent.

      • Deb_Lynn

I fully love, appreciate and respect the blessed Bjork for her wackiness. Her swan dress crossed all sorts of lines, and wasn’t a great display of her wackiness. IMHO, of course.

        • Did you ever see the Mad TV spoof on Bjork?  It’s “MTV Icon: Whitney Houston” and Whitney skins her.  Hilarious.  I’m not really a fan but I loved the swan dress and didn’t see what was the big deal.  Then again, I wear a coat with a hood that is a bear head.

    •  noooooo the other way ’round!

  • She looks pretty here, but I don’t know…I prefer Katy looking all crazy-lollipop-pixie, rather than normal-cute.

  • I guess my favorite thing here is that she looks like a real person, rather than her typical cartoonish look.

    •  Exactly. She actually looks a lot like Zoey Deschanel (sp?) here, if Zoey grew out her bangs.

  • Katy Perry is like me she simply does not look as good without putting eyeliner on the inner corners of her eyes. It’s amazing how much it changes her look and makes her look more like an everyday Jane.

    • MilaXX

I need liner on the outer v and mascara just to look awake.

  • call_me_schmeg

i want a mumu mrs. roper version of this dress to lounge about the house in and rattle my stacks of bracelets.

  • SewingSiren

Katy is getting her Dorothy Lamour on.

  • ralish

She’s so pretty when she’s not looking crazy. Pretty dress, agree on sizing up.

  • eowyn_of_rohan

That poor swan looks like it has a broken neck because of how the dress hangs on Katy’s bust.  Think of the swans!  Go up a size!

    • Kayceed

That’s what I saw – that poor swan is struggling to keep its head up under the weight of her bosoms!

  • Sarah Dickerson

Scrolldown fug.  I hate that print.  It’s not doing nice things to her shape.

  • MilaXX

My biggest quibble is the way the print is laid out it looks like her boobs are squashing the swan’s neck. However, I can’t blame her because it’s the same way on the model. Otherwise I think she looks great, but I agree about a different shoe.  I cannot wait until this hair over the shoulder look has passed.

  • mmc2315

A print/dress made for the flat-chested.  Not for our Katy.

  • dress_up_doll

It’s a nice dress, but she really could have gone up a size.

  • I think she looks great, though the dress needs to be smoothed out. Two thumbs up from me.

  • Qitkat

Ohh, I like this dress, I really do. Katy looks lovely, and normal. So interesting. Though I do see the point from other kittens how the swan’s neck is creased, but it doesn’t bother me all that much. Maybe in person the design flowed better.

  • crash1212

Great dress. She looks cute and I like the shoes with it.

  • VicksieDo

    Methinks her feet are hurting!

  • Love this from head to toe. Suits her very well.

  • Tatiana Luján

The shoes are hideous and the hem lenght is all kinds of wrong, it’s chopping her legs. The dress and makeup are  very pretty.

    • kimmeister

I hate the shoes with a fiery hot passion.  I wish shoe designers would stop making huge ankle cuffs – they don’t look good on anybody.

  • B_C_J

I love the fact that this beautiful young woman is wearing less makeup for once. I love how feminine she is and how much she relishes her femininity. The dress is lovely but a bit snug through the middle. Otherwise she looks very pretty.

  • Coco Cornejo

The placement of the swan’s neck under her bosom read “baby bump” to my eye.

Perhaps I need that second cup of coffee…

  • AmeliaEve

Once again, the real problem here is that it’s too long in the waist. The only way to fix it is to go up a couple sizes and totally reshape the midriff. But in this case that might clip the swan’s wings. Still a cool dress though.

  • Mary229

Yeah, I kind of love it.   I think she pulls it off because of her body.  I’m not sure I would love this dress on someone who was smaller chested.  But as it stands…I think she looks pretty fab here.

  • granddelusion

I like it. I’d like it better if the swan’s neck and head weren’t all wrinkled. Try a size up, Katy.

  • Jecca2244

I’ve met Wes. He is so kind and talented. You just want him to succeed. Nice to see him getting his clothes out there.

  • Tracy_Flick

I like it, but it doesn’t fit her up top. Gorgeous pattern, though.

  • formerlyAnon

I think she might grow up into quite a good little fashionista, if it holds her interest.

  • It’s a bit early 2000s for my taste. But in any case, she looks better without John Mayer as an accessory.

  • PrunellaV

Wow, she looks so normal and pretty and not like a bonbon with hair!

  • KC

I feel like she’s dressing a lot better lately. I understand the psycho candy glitter stuff she does, its for her image and its fun. But I like it when she dresses more like this. Sometimes its nice to see celebs just looking pretty.

  • I must be style-challenged. Y’all keep praising the pointy witch shoes, and I just think they’re ridiculously ugly.

  • maggiemaybe

    That dress is gorgeous.

  • Trisha26

It’s too “white swan” for me. And it’s not smooth because she has boobs. How dare women with boobs try to wear clothes. How dare they!

  • guest2visits

I think the dress and the shoes work really well on her; but I wish she’d gone all out and left the standard Katy Perry heavy
false eyelashes and eye make-up behind for a completely different look; maybe closer to a fresh face, less stage-y.

  • im all for prints, but i dont love this dress. it looks cheap and unstylish to me, and kinda faux-asian.

  • lucasuk82

I’m kind of cold on the dress; the design looks like something would have been air-brushed on van in 1981.  Is it my imagination, or has KP eased up on the war paint.  She looks softer and it suits.

  • quiltrx

This dress is meant for me, in some alternate world where I’m skinny and gorgeous and could wear it.  I’m sure that I’d collect swans in that world too, and squee when I saw this dress, just like in this world!

  • Frank Li

I generally don’t like her music, but she does know how to work an outfit, but the shoes are too much.

  • CMS

Love this, but wincing at the thought of the red marks on her shoulders at the end of the day – those straps are DIGGING in fiercely.

  • MaryAtRealityTea

I like this, but she should have had it taken out a bit more in the bust. And agree on the shoes and the cuff. I love her when she wears more polished make-up so she looks really pretty.
