She looks so old and that dress is so not flattering! If I had her body I’d be wearing such different stuff.

Edit – the one on the model looks so different and so cute. I wonder why it looks so different on Julianne.

      • Jackie Lorden

The one the model is wearing doesn’t have sleeves.  The sleeves add years IMHO.

      • http://profiles.google.com/gillianholroyd gillian holroyd

Also the bodice of the blue one has an blouson effect whereas the orange is form-fitting.

        • NC_Meg

I think that’s the biggest difference. The blouson is not flattering at all. I wonder why she didn’t stick to the more form-fitting version?

      • http://www.djplaw.com/ Tadiana

And the color change, of course, with the loss of the different shades, which changed the dress from Art Nouveau-fantastic to Standard Ice Princess

        • mmc2315

Agreed.  The orange gown is stunning!

        • onefifteen

I think the blue goes well with her eyes and that it was probably better on the hanger.

        • http://profile.yahoo.com/BJTY6KY7LOR7MDOD6QCZUC3VVI Donna Tabor

I think so, too, except that the ice blue accentuates her beautiful eyes. Which is probably why it was chosen, if you think about it.

        • Stuck_on_Mute

Right on with the Ice Princess – which I think could be a look Julianne could really rock w/ her coloring. This is not that look.

      • mountainFashionista

In addition to what the other kittens have mentioned, the neckline on the blue version is too high to be flattering.  The way it cuts across her body makes her neck look short and thick.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Angelica-Smith-Mertens/150401222 Angelica Smith Mertens

Helen Miren dress…It’s pretty, but too old for her.  Not that she has to look hoochie.  Just a tad more age appropriate.  Hey, her bf Ryan needs to become her stylist.  He could teach her a thing or two.

        • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Helen Mirren would look at this dress and laugh.

    • Deac82

ugh.  This dress does nothing for her and is giving her a FUPA

    • enchanted216

Such a beautiful and talented young woman with absolutely no clue what to do about it….:(

      • nc17

I agree, most often she appears to be trying too hard. If she has a stylist, they don’t get her, and if she doesn’t… it might be Seacrest…

        • Sobaika

I think it’s her or her people – mostly because at the Emmys he made a crack about how she didn’t take his hair advice, and he hair looked pretty bad.

        • alyce1213

I think it’s Seacrest.  He gets a kick out of clothes “matching her eyes.”

    • Patricia Gillett

Adds pounds and years. She should have chosen another color.

      • bitchybitchybitchy

She’s a lovely young woman who looks matronly is this gown. It isn’t working at all for her.

        • Anathema_Device

haha, I used the word “matronly,” too. Great minds and all that.

    • Stingcat

This makes her look old and doughty!  Why didn’t she go with the red?  And for goodness sake her stomach isn’t even that big!

    • Imasewsure

The dress is beautiful in both colors but I just don’t think she can pull off that 30’s glamour style

    • http://twitter.com/lenabena_ Elena

Makes her look wider than she is. Pretty dress, just not flattering.

    • MRC210

I don’t know if it’s the color or if it’s just a size too big for her, but I want to say “mother of the bride”.  The red version is stunning.

    • http://twitter.com/MajorBedhead MajorBedhead

I guess the only good thing about it is that in the light blue, the “Here’s The Path To My Lady Bits” arrow isn’t quite as blatant as it is on the orange version.

    • Sobaika

It’s a gorgeous dress on the model.

The fit is so off on Julianne, and I’m not sold on the color either, even though it brings out her eyes. It’s just too princess-shiny-sparkly to look chic. Hair and makeup are tremendously aging.

      • Candigirl1968

She is a stunning woman who seems to manage to pull off hair, makeup and dress all at the same time.  And all too often, she winds up looking like Sharon Stone’s only slightly younger sister.

      • kschwarting

I agree that the makeup is not her friend.  It looks downright harsh.

    • SapphoPoet

I LOVE the orange version on the model. The detailing stands out so much more. Plus, that orange is my favorite color (I’m wearing it right now).

Any reason there is no TLo comment? Silence is golden?

      • eowyn_of_rohan

It’s filed under Whiteboard, where there’s never any TLo comment.  Those posts are just on the main page now.

        • SapphoPoet

Oh–I didn’t realize that this was a Whiteboard post. Thanks for the explanation.

      • In_Stitches

The orange would have looked great with her coloring, I don’t know why she felt like she needed to wear the blue to match her eyes. Contrasting colors can do wonders for your eyes.

        • H3ff

I had never noticed her eyes before, so I don’t know about that. Wowza.

    • Jessi03

Why did she take a gorgeous dress and turn it into a prom-mother of the bride combination?

      • julesj

    • Billie_Dawn

The dress looked so much better in the original color. That blue makes it seem matronly.

    • 3boysful

I’m glad I wasn’t the only one to think this was not flattering.  I cannot, however, explain why.  Is she busty for her size?  The dress almost looks too big in the shoulders and tight across the hips.  And she’s definitely a tiny gal.

    • eowyn_of_rohan

How the hell is that even the same dress on the model?  You’d never even know it’s the same collection.

    • rmp6y5

That color looks fab with her eyes, but what the hell is going on with the shape of this dress?  She looks like a pregnant snow queen.

    • MilaXX

      This dress needed softer makeup.

    • unbornfawn

She ruined a stunning dress. The original was gorgeous! The light blue color makes the dress look cheap and the fit is off. I think she may have been going for “icy-blonde” but missed by a mess.

    • shirab

Why is the neckline so much higher on the ice-blue version? That doesn’t help. Neither do the cap sleeves. So sad.

    • LLuL

When a garment makes a fit person look pregnant it is a “girl, that is not your dress” moment.

She’s not incubating a little Seacrest is she?

      • julesj

Right. I thought she looked a little “pouchy.”

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=779473124 Crystal Marie Stewart

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Why on earth did she go with the blue instead of the original red?  The red is stunning!!!  I think she was going for a 30’s glam kind of look — which if done correctly, is great — but this is all wrong; especially her hair.

    • http://profiles.google.com/adj.blair Adriana Blair

The version that the model is wearing seems way more young and fresh. Julianne also needs to lighten up on the makeup and try a more casual hairstyle so that she doesn’t age herself!

    • Lisa Dugan

This is not great but her eyes look amazing!

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

She’s dressing more like Dame Judie Dench!

    • PastryGoddess

Why does a 20 something year old look dowdy, dumpy, and matronly?

      I just don’t understand…

    • alyce1213

      Grandma — you’re back?

    • AlexisPayne

Beautiful dress, great color, but not figure flattering and her hair looks limp.

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

Icy pretty but I preferred the dress in the original black and TWO! shades of burnt orangey color – looks more modern.

    • fringebenefit

When she was on Dancing with the Stars, she could put on just about any bizarre unflattering costume and nothing could undercut her beauty–she looked gorgeous/cute/sexy/vampy/adorable as necessary. Since she’s been out in the world, I don’t think I’ve once seen her look as good as she looked on that show. Her hair and makeup are consistently all wrong…and her clothes. Well, this is a prime example. Too bad. She’s one of the most beautiful women in the world, to be sure.

      • Nelliebelle1197

I am not quite sure she qualifies as one of the most beautiful women in the world. I grew up on the beaches in Florida and she looks like about 1/3 of my high school. She is pretty, but her problem is a complete lack of style and taste. She has no idea how to dress or what looks good on her. She doesn’t understand fit or proportion. I bet that comes from growing up in dance costumes. She hasn’t worn much else in her life and it is obvious.

    • Annabelle Archer

Sweet Baby Jesus, do we really have to do a bump watch for a beard now?  Has it come to that?

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Emily-Smith/12431153 Emily Smith

that makes her look pregnant and she’s got abs harder than a rock.  so that makes no sense.

    • jw_ny

well, we all know she is not old and thick…but you wouldn’t know it by looking at her here.  She’s young and pretty…doesn’t need to try so hard to be something she’s not.

That dress in the rusty brown color is gorgeous…in the blue…ick.

    • minnye

I cannot believe how beautiful that orange dress is. I hope we see it on someone who can do it justice.

    • Stephanie Ferber

how is it possible that she found a dress that makes her look heavy??

    • decormaven

Dear, let that dress go to Betty Draper. It’s about the same shade of blue as that ensemble with the matching stole in “The Grown-Ups.” Not your dress, not at all. And there’s not even a hint of platinum jewelry or anything to take away from that fact. Pity.

    • ojosazules

Great color for her. Maybe this looked better in person? The hair is not glamorous.

    • B_C_J

Lovely young woman in a dress that is definitely not doing anything positive for her. She looks older than what she is.  The dress is also not flattering to her figure and it is overly embellished. The hair is a bit flat as well. She needs a good stylist.

    • notanotherusernameforchrissake

the hair.  cocker spaniel would be an improvement.
however, i’m good with the color palatte.  lovely composition, esp when matched so well to her eyes.

    • Anathema_Device

The original version of this dress is absolutely stunning! I don’t mind the blue version, and I’m sure it is better for her coloring, but it doesn’t have the impact of the orange. However, for some reason this dress just isn’t flattering on her. It is making her look kind of matronly.

    • Scarlet39

It’s incredibly unflattering on her, and the blue pales (ahem) in comparison to the rust color.

    • quiltrx

The model version is cut so much better.  The really-high neckline and sleeves on Julianne make it look so ‘elderly’–plus that ice blue (she might as well have dyed her hair to match).

I’m not a fan of orange, and I think the model version would be tough to wear on the RC color-wise…but I do think the beading design being darker than the fabric gives it a much more modern look.

    • Jessica Vann

I have been watching wayyyy too much Boardwalk Empire lately, and I have a feeling Julianne has been too. I love the ice blue color paired with her hair and lips. I think this would be perfect if there weren’t fit issues around her midsection and the need for a good hemming. Aside from that, she is serving 1920’s Speakeasy Realness.

    • http://twitter.com/aidanboleyn Aidan B

Oh my dear god, no. Everything about this is wrong: hair, color, silhouette. This makes her like twice the size she actually is, and almost twice her age.

    • MaryAtRealityTea

UGH. That’s all I can muster. Geriatric, boring, shiny, dated awful flat unstyled hair. It’s a mess. I’m sorry. Go home.

    • In_Stitches

I’m guessing like with the heavily beaded skirt K Stew wore a few months back that this gown isn’t something easily tailored which explains the poor fit, but what explains the design changes from the initial garment?  Where did the sad sleevelets and blouse effect on the top come from?

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

I’m beginning to think she thinks she is in the running for an AARP card. Is she not aware how young she is??

    • GorgeousThings

Good lord – it makes her look wide and old! She has GOT to get a new stylist. Even when she was in full DWTS spray tan and makeup, she still managed to look cute. Here she just looks matronly.

    • jmorino08

What is going on with her midsection? She is a tiny thing with a killer body but the dress is giving her a pooch… Like she just finished Thanksgiving dinner and needs to unbutton her jeans, only in gown-form.

Also, that hair is tragic! Looks like what my hair would do if I tried a “fancy” style. And I suck at hair styling.

      Bad bad bad all around.

    • elfbrick

The hair and makeup here make her look a lot like Ginger Rogers.

    • PhillipWilde

She’s there to accept a lifetime achievement award.

    • Trisha26

The gown looks tight around her midsection & hips making her look enormous. The orange version on the model is stunning. Hate the hair.

    • kalisa

      Ugh. And WASH YOUR HAIR.

    • m0r0

On the model and in that color – FANTASTIC
On her in that pale nothing blue – FUG

    • j_anson

      No, no, no.

    • http://www.lindamerrill.com Linda Merrill

She’s too short for this dress, so it gets all drapey on her, vs. the model. While the blue is beautiful on her, the model’s red version is a more striking and modern colorway for the dress.

    • schadenfreudelicious

Julianne i think you are wearing Helen Mirren’s dress, i think it would look lovely on her, you, not so much.

    • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

honey, that is not your color.  beautiful gown, but it makes you look like a barn door.  and there oughta be a law against white (and black) backdrops on the RC.

    • lrhg

Big Congrats on your Lifetime Achievement Award Julianne!

    • librarygrrl64

Not the most flattering choice for her. I love the original color, though!

    • pookiesmom

This looked SO MUCH BETTER in orange. It looks too shiny/matronly/beauty pageant in blue.

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

I might be in the minority when I say that I like the blue better than the orange. I think it looks good, although it does seem to add a bit of volume to her frame. She’s so tiny though, that it doesn’t look bad.

    • http://twitter.com/MandySCG MandyJane

She should have worn the orange version.

    • Zippypie

She looks pretty awful in that ice blue color.  Honey, you’re not Princess Grace.

    • BobStPaul

Good lord, she’s basically unrecognizable.  Why does she dress so badly?  The original dress is stunning but that pale blue is not working at all.  She looks 20 years older than she is and at least 20 pounds heavier.  And the make-up is all wrong.

    • margaret meyers

She took a youthful look, and took all the youth out of it.  This is too much dress for someone as small as she is  — she isn’t 5’4″ really, is she?

    • http://profiles.google.com/sauchih Sau-Chih Feng

Helen Mirren demonstrates the amazing results of Adobe Photoshop rejuvenation cream.

      Wait, hold on. My bad.

Julianne Hough shows audiences a preview of the aging make-up they’re going to use on her for some movie in which she plays both the older and younger version of herself, involving time machines and lots of crying.

    • RzYoung

Wow, it really brings out her eyes. Gorgeous dress

    • catlady10

      very Mother of the Bride

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Louise-Bryan/1177213326 Louise Bryan

The shape is not flattering to her, and the dress looks better in color.  This is bordering on sad bridal.

    • ChristinaRi

I think blondes should stay far away from pale blue.  It’s not the right color.   Plus the embellishment on the dark red dress stands out so much better.

Also, darlin’, your hair’s a mess.

    • lrober03

really?  you took a dress with color and interest to the eye, and you put it in a pale pastel?  its hard to see any of the detail, and it makes her look pale and washed out…
