In or Out: Rose McGowan

Posted on October 02, 2012

This one isn’t going to require a lot of writing from us, which is great, because we’ve got a load of towels we need to fold right now.

Note: We don’t actually fold towels together. We’re gay, but we’re not THAT gay. One of us folds the towels so the other one can complain later that the towels were folded incorrectly, of course.

Rose McGowan attends the LAND 3rd Annual Benefit Gala in Hollywood, California in a black and green floral print dress paired with Jerome C. Rousseau sandals.

You either love it or you hate it, so let’s hear it:

Vote Now!

IN! I love it!

OUT! I hate it!

We for our parts, would like it more without the giant pockets. We also don’t think gold accessories were a very good idea. They cheapen the look somehow. Granted, those lobe-danglers look mighty cheap to begin with.

Olivia Wilde’s elf caftan enchanted the Precious Unborn Fawns, who voted it IN.

    • GorgeousThings

I could tell from the photo on the front page – OUT.

    • Dorrene BrownButterfield

Out: I think I’d love it if it were lighter colors. It’s a little too “black light poster from the 70s” for me as is.

    • DaringMiss

I am having bad 80’s flashbacks with that bodice and gathered skirt.   Out!

      • Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

        Yep. What she said. Out.

    • Lily

I would really like it if it didn’t have those giant pockets. Also, those earrings aren’t doing it for me.

    • TheLaurenJean

God, out. That is meant for a 6′ tall goddess, not Rose McGowan.

      • Hell Yes, I Would!

yeah – the dress either needs to be much shorter – or she needs to be MUCH taller.

    • Ros Clarke

OUT. It’s the pockets that ruin it most for me. Also the top half doesn’t seem to balance the bottom half quite right.

    • Dorothy & Michael n/a

Looks like she pulled a Scarlett O’Hara and made this dress from a shower curtain she saw in Bermuda.

      • meowing

True story:  Mr. Pine wanted a Hawaiian theme for his office (he’s more than a tad eccentric).  He actually bought “hula girl” shower curtains for me to make window curtains for him.  Gee what a pity…they didn’t hold up more than a year (could sabotage from my sewing have been a factor–lips are sealed.)

        • bitchybitchybitchy

Sounds as if Mr. Pine is a psychic cousin to Seinfeld’s Mr. Pitt!

          • EEKstl

HA! I was thinking exactly the same thing!

    • Jessica O’Connell

The earrings and pockets are a bit much, but I love the print and overall look. IN.

    • random_poster

I like the hair and make-up, but that is all.  OUT.

    • Alison McAfee

love it, but would love it a million times more if it was knee-length. still IN for me.

      • foodycatAlicia

Kneelength and at a beach barbecue. OUT.

    • Laura Toepfer

OUT. I don’t hate it, but I think it’s a really odd mix of the formal and informal. It just doesn’t work for me.

    • Kiltdntiltd

Lets see. If she was standing up straight, had done her hair up or back, worn different jewelry, chosen other shoes and gotten it taken to floor length, then MAYBE. Since she didn’t, it’s an out.

    • mjude

does the fabric look cheap?  OUT

    • SummerSquash

In. I want all my dresses to have pockets!

    • Miss_Led

Her boobs are badly wrangled, too, and the shoes look very cheap. OUT.

    • lalahartma

    • VioletFem

OUT. This is the wrong print for a gown. Also, giant pockets on a gown never look good.

    • sweetestsith

I love the dress, and can deal with the gold (though I think many things would have been a better choice… strappy black sandals and big turquoise sparkly earrings for example), IN. She looks great.

    • VeryClaire

I like it although the proportions are weird – too much skirt for a strapless maybe? The gold accents to not offend.

    • meowing

Out.  Makes this waif-thin woman look pear-shaped.  As a pear-shaped woman, believe me, that’s not a look for which to strive.

    • janetjb

The print is much too large for her.

    • RzYoung

      IN love it.

    • yulaffin

Awww, she’s all dressed up for Halloween!  Mask and all.

      • ecallaw1977

The mask comment is just plain mean.

        • Heather

Mean-ish, but true. She has seriously f****d up her pretty face.

          • Paigealicious

Um, wasn’t she in a major accident that required plastic surgery to fix her face? It’s not like she just got some plastic surgery for shits and giggles.

            • Tom and Lorenzo

No, and this comes up in every single Rose McGowan post. She was in a car accident that left a small scar under her eye and that’s it.

            • Paigealicious

Oh. I swear there were posts in the past where you asked people not to comment on the obvious surgery? In any case, noted.

            • Tom and Lorenzo

Well, we’d still prefer people not comment on it, just because it tends to come up every time we post about her, which means we quite often skip posting about her just because we know half the commenters aren’t even going to mention what she’s wearing and someone’s going to make the erroneous claim that she had reconstructive surgery.

            • Paigealicious

               LOL, whoops!

            • Tom and Lorenzo

It’s fine. Just trying to nip this one in the bud.

            • yulaffin

               I apologize.  I won’t do that again.

        • Ali

I really hate how people won’t stop harping on her face.

          • Laurie S. Neilsen

I think she’s starting to look a lot more like herself. Whatever it is that happened, she looks more recognizable now. I think she looks good.

            • LP

Yeah, I was gonna comment on her face to say that it’s looking really good; more like her face before.

    • lizajane1776

Out. Looks like a lovely summer beach dress. Nothing for the red carpet. The bodice doesn’t fit correctly, and those earrings are horrid. Yep, I stand by my OUT.

    • Scarlet39

OUT. If it’s vintage, it’s bad vintage.   I vaguely remember my sister having a dress similar to this in the 80s.  I thought it was ugly then, too.

      Bad shoes, too.

    • antheapena

    • deliadee

      Out.  Pockets are overwhelming.

    • Anna

Are those pants? They look like giant pants. OUT.

    • MilaXX

OUT. I like the pint but the skirt looks too big, perhaps it is the pockets. I also hate the gold shoes/earring with this.

    • llou56

out she must have a bad manicure

    • theresa harnisch

      hate it

    • mshesterp

IN–I’d like it better if it were longer, but I think it’s a charming design.  I think she looks great.

    • StellaZafella

Like the dress and Rose in it…but just because there’re pockets doesn’t mean you should stick your hands in them.

    • Catiline

      OUT, those pockets are horrendous.

    • lilibetp

All I can see is that her face seems to be relaxing a little.

    • Samuel Hawk

Is that from a Simplicity pattern?

    • Atelier Jimmy Leonardo

OUT. Agreed with the accessorizing. Actually I think it would be super-cute as a mini dress. The buttons are actually cute, if not invisible.

    • tired_mommy

OUT. St. Patrick’s Day is in March.

    • l_c_ann

Wasted interesting fabric.  (Or is a beach dress gone upscale?)

    • Shaylea

    • gillian holroyd

It’s the top-stitching on the bodice and the large black buttons that ruin it for me. Out.

    • mmc2315

OUT.  It’s a cheap-looking dress that is wearing her.

    • jw_ny

Love the gown (pockets too!), hair, and makeup…hate hate hate the earrings.  Agree that gold was not the way to go with shoes and jewelery.  The gown colors are really good on her.  I kinda wish we got to see it without her hands in the pockets for a shot or two tho…are we gonna have to start criticizing the ladies for HIPs (hands in pockets) now too?!

    • In_Stitches

It’s not sexy, it’s not chic, it’s not fun, it’s OUT.

    • clevRcat

Is it a dress or a jumpsuit?  In either case – OUT.  Yuck.

    • Ashley Ellen Wilson

OUT. Would have been better without heels–work this as more a maxi dress with sandals and MAYBE.

    • gabbilevy

Love the dress, but Rose fumbled the accessories. Out.

    • Molly Oberhausen

      LOVE IT, want it

    • Lilithcat

Love the dress (jumpsuit?).  Love the earrings.  Not together.

      But, overall, an in.

One of us folds the towels so the other one can complain later that the towels were folded incorrectly, of course.

This totally reminded me of what Christine Quinn told the NYT:  I am always refolding, because Kim is frankly never putting her shorts and pants away correctly.

    • schadenfreudelicious

Back to the lanai with that one…OUT

      • CurbGirl

        Exactly…looks like she’s hosting a luau.

    • Liana Brooks

OUT- She looks sad for a reason, and the reason is she showed up on the RC on a beach muumuu. That’s very sad, Rose. Hang your head in shame and go home.

    • formerlyAnon

I was going with in till I looked at it a third time and changed my mind. NOT with gold sandals. Just no. Close, but out.

But it’s really cute, just accessorized too wrong and not really seasonally appropriate, IMO. Where was this in July?

    • Brian Jardine

      OUT… Definite OUT

    • Laylalola

    • Goldie

Are we sure it’s a dress?  It’s got such a huge fold in the middle, it almost looks like pants.  I think it’s cute, though, and her face looks a lot better.  New makeup artist or the damage from her accident is finally starting to settle.

    • Hannah Hastings

      Yikes. Out!

    • Teresa Enright Campbell

You needed to ask us this question?

    • :)

I totally love this.  I can’t help it

    • Danielle

      OUT.  Just…no.

    • MintaHallWriter

HATE the dress. HATE the pockets. It’s too much dress for this girl.

The only think I do like are the shoes. HATE the earrings. And the shoes deserve a better dress.

    • anotherkate

I fall into the “hate it” camp. Those buttons down the front…ugh. Sorry Rose–I preferred your goth-girl-who-dates-Marilyn-Manson-and-shows-us-her-buttcrack phase to THIS.

    • iheartbuffy

IDK what’s worse, the sad excuse for an outfit or the botox.

    • fallinseattle

OUT because of the pockets (ugh) and the accessories…and possibly the length as well. I think this would have been cuter as a cocktail dress.

    • Shannon Stewart

There are no arguments allowed as far as towel folding methods at my house.  I answer all debates with “I used to get paid to do this, I know the right way to fold a damn towel!”  No one has yet come up with better credentials.

Oh yeah, the dress.  OUT.  It’s ugly.

    • Ass Kicking Adviser

I can’t believe I am saying this but , IN. (wha? I’m voting Rose McGowan in???). I like the dress. I don’t like how it’s accessorized and I don’t like that she is wearing it on a red carpet instead of at a swishy pool party, but I like it.

Hey TLo, when are we gonna’ talk about last night? I want to talk about last night. ‘Cause I thought it was fabulous. Put down the towels.

    • Verascity

I hate literally everything about this look except those great shoes. OUT.

    • teensmom99

I’m a little distracted by the fact that she looks older than her age–once again, botox and hairstyle are aging someone.  And if I’m distracted from THAT dress, then it’s bad.  OUT.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

One of us folds the towels so the other one can complain later that the towels were folded incorrectly, of course. Love you two!

I am not crazy about the dress-pockets on a formal look? I think not.  Not crazy about the styling, either. OUT.

    • NurseEllen

Well, at least she’s trying, but this seems all wrong, both as a dress and on her, personally.  OUT.

And in my house, I quietly re-fold the towels to my own specifications while thanking my stars that my husband helps with the laundry when he can.  HOWEVER…… took YEARS to achieve this level of Zen acceptance.

      • meowing

When Mr. Meowing empties the dishwasher, I just consider it a treasure hunt when I try to find my utensils.

        • kimmeister

Amen!  Mr. Kimmeister has no idea where any of the utensils go.  I’m happy if he’ll just help me put away the plates and glasses, which go in very obvious places.

          • l_c_ann

And then there’s the ‘put it away on a shelf’ where he can see it, but I can only see it if I’m on 12″ stilts (not to be confused with stilettos which are not a part of our life style.)

    • call_me_schmeg

st. patrick’s day just threw up all over poor, dear rose. OUT.

    • Tanya Wade

Mien gott, those shoes are aging. I hate it.

    • Diana Martinez

I can never look at her anymore without wishing she hadn’t messed with her face.  She was so much prettier before. =(

    • Deborah Lipp

In. It’s weird in an engaging and playful way.

    • PeggyOC

      Out.  Clunky, awkward and ugly.

    • amf0001

how things are folded… can we have a blog about that?  this is a very important topic in many households (I’m easy on sheets and towels but very particular on tshirts!)

    • Joyce VG

I like it! I just don’t know why. IN.

    • BrooklynBomber

      It’s so out it’s IN!

    • Jessica TallGirl Freeman

Out. This is just wrong on so many levels. Fit, proportion, accessories, color, hair make up.

    • Imasewsure

I like it but not on her because of the proportions I guess… she looks pretty though but it’s an OUT for me

    • Elizabeth Rust

OUT. Looks like she’s wearing beach-umbrella fabric, and the shape of the dress – er, what shape?

    • NCDFan

out, it’s like somebody was told they had to use all the fabric in the dress.

    • Jennifer Hofstetter

      Love it. IN.

    • Leann Rich

I just saw poisonous frogs at an aquarium that look exactly like this dress. – out.

    • Bethany Roullett

Out.  Maybe it’s the green.  Or the length.  Or… I don’t know.  Just out.

    • Leslie Streeter

      Target muumuu.

      • kimmeister

Come now, if Target were to sell muumuus, they’d be much cuter than this one.

    • bailey debruynkops

agree that the gold was a bad choice- navy or pale pink would have been better- but i think its a fun choice for her. IN

    • kimmeister

      OUT, because:
      1. It looks like it has flying buttresses
      2. One cannot tell if they are huge palazzo pants or not
      3. The bodice is thickening her waist

What I can see of her shoes, they appear to be cute.

    • Introspective

all i see are pockets and hiddy fabric. O to the U-T boo. bye.

    • Cathy S

Out. I just can’t with that dress.

    • aristida_girl

“One of us folds the towels so the other one can complain later that the towels were folded incorrectly, of course.” I love you guys..this dress is hiddy!  super-out..

    • Bozhi

Out.  Maybe that dress could work if accessorized corretly, but I doubt it.

    • nicole seligman

wrong length, wrong shoes, wrong earrings. OUT.

    • Suzie Vazquez

IN! I think it’s fabulous!!  But then again, she bought an 80s dress from me once…  so I’m biased.

      • mhleta

        Story, please?

    • Jessi03

    • Stella Zawistowski

Oh, so bulky, so ugly. OUT.

    • dickylarue

I don’t know what she did to her face, but if she had just allowed herself to age naturally I think it would look miles better than how she currently looks.

As for the dress…it makes her look around 60 and slightly insane.

      • mhleta

I don’t know who this actress is or have any idea how old she is. Judging by the dermal fillers in the top lip, labial folds, cheek bones and orbital sockets, I’m going to say she’s just slammed into 40 in a state of panic and probably would have looked fine if she’d left herself alone.

        • dickylarue

I think she’s close to 40. Maybe a few years younger…and yes, she should have left herself alone. She was a knockout before she messed up her face like this.

    • AudreysMom

OUT. I used to think of Rose as a ‘lusty broad’. WTF is this?

    • butterflysunita

OUT.  The dress is wearing her.  And who wants such an ugly dress to wear them?

    • kalisa

I don’t hate it. I wish it were a bit shorter.

    • mhleta

I love this outfit for an evening soiree around the pool or a swanky cruise, but not so much for a red carpet. It says “Vacation” to me. I’m okay with the earrings. Didn’t notice the shoes till you mentioned them. Hoping they look better in real life. If not, I agree, they don’t say “expensive” though they probably are several weeks of grocery money for a family of four.

    • Madeleine La

      OUUUUUUT…! o_O

also, whaaaat is going on with her face?!

    • EEKstl

OUT!  I actually like the color combination but that’s where it ends.  Waaaaay to Walmart Couture for me.

    • AmeliaEve

What have they done to her hands???

    • Christi Coufal

Hate Hate Hate. It looks like she just took a two day sewing class and this is what she made from the scrap bin.

    • Sara__B

I actually like the dress, but it’s OUT here. Her boobs are squashed up into her armpits, the proportions are off — maybe if it were shorter? — and her hair style looks dated. The gold shoes and earrings aren’t working, either.

    • VicD

OUT – Revenge of the ’80’s Strikes Back

    • sk8tfan

Out. Too much fabric for such a petite woman. Her body is gorgeous; she doesn’t need to swathe it in bolts of material. And stop the nightmare of pockets on couture. I don’t like it when the men stand there playing pocket pool; I’m an equal opportunity hands-in-pocket-pose hater.

    • ChelseaNH

      OUT.  Too much dress.

    • YoungSally

Straight out of my father’s 40th b’day party in June 1971 — party in Northern California — my mother was wearing a version of this… were half the female guests.

    • Bwin51

It would look lovely on someone slimmer. . . like a gorgeous Asian.

    • Jessie Melcher Brown

Maybe its just me, but her face looks better.  Like some of the puffiness from the surgery after her accident has finally gone away and her face is getting back to normal.

    • samitee

I’m really struggling over how this could be considered in…
      OUT. duh.

    • kolokOlchik

Something’s off and it’s not just her face

    • Zippypie

Big OUT.  Hiddy.  Looks like an 80s dress on steriods devoured her.

    • leftcoastpickle

      Hate it, out.

    • melanie0866

Nix the giant pockets, and I’m in.  Or shorten it ten inches.  Then maybe.

    • DaveUWSNYC

    • Trisha26

Out. Somewhere, a female clown is nude.

    • TSkot

Looks cheap and bad fit:  OUT

    • Elizabeth

Out. It could be cute on the right woman, but she looks like she got attacked by it. Forgive me, Bitter Kittens, but isn’t she the girl from “Charmed?” What happened to her face? Was she in an accident? Not intending to be rude, but something is very changed.

    • Karen Dickerson

If this were short, this would be an adorable dress for a teenager. Since Ms. McGowan is very much not a teenager, OUT.

    • Judy_J

      I hate it.  OUT.

    • julnyes

Nope, nope, nope, nope ….. noooope

    • Ann Bagley

Out! The buttons, the jewelry, the print – all of it needs to go.  How much plastic surgery has she had? She looks very different than she used to.

    •!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

The dress is out, but I love her hair color here.

    • Laura

Well…. I don’t mind the pockets, but it seems like it can’t decide which kind of dress it wants to be. Top says shorter and flirty, bottom says almost maxi but not quite. The shoes seem too dressy.  I’m going with OUT.

    • Monabel

Dress really wants to be a housecoat.

    • L.

OUT – who else though MARIMEKKO?

    • jmorino08

    • lesmaha

      Out.  and, ick.

    • Rhonda Shore

Looks like a good dress to do laundry in, you can put the quarters in the pockets.  The shoes are hideous.  OUT!

    • Merneith

      HATE IT! Out.

    • Alyson Epstein

out! those pockets are hideous.  however, she is looking much better in general

    • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

    • margaret meyers

Out.  Marimekko curtains with a breast-trapping valance.

    • Judy_S

I don’t mind the dress in itself, pockets and all, but it would need some breezier styling. OUT.

    • snarkykitten

nooo noo noooo burn it. then burn the ashes

    • bookish

Conan the Barbarian ruined her for me. Every time I see her now I laugh picturing her in that crazy costuming and makeup.

    • marilyn

Out.  Color is good.  But the print lends itself more to a caftan than an evening dress. The bust is too tight, and her boobs are screaming for mercy.   Hate the pockets.  Why are they so big and noticeable?  Hasn’t the designer ever seen pockets before?  With such a bold print, she was wise to not wear a necklace to fight with it.  But she could have worn a couple of statement bracelets to style it a little bit.  The print looks cheap and the pockts look stupid.

    • sleah_in_norcal

this is very “meet me on the lanai…”.  the dress is too big, too long, matronly and cheapened by the accessories.  how old is she?  she looks about 50 here.  too bad, cause i like the color and print.

    • Maya

out. the pockets are too big and the overall proportion is wrong.

    • Larkin21

Don’t hate but it but it’s still OUT. Mostly for the pockets but not a fan of the design or the fabric either. Hair looks good.

    • Louise Bryan

No, just no.  The big pockets just knock it right out of reality, but it’s an OUT even without them.  Maybe for an evening poolside party, but without the pockets.  I love pockets, but those patch pockets remind me of panniers.  Maybe in-seam pockets.  And tiki torches.

    • h2olovngrl

I don’t think the gold accessories are doing it for me. Otherwise, I think it could be cute on her.

    • guest2visits

This looks like a dress for a nice summer barbeque; an evening with wine or margaritas – just not a very formal look, for me.
The shoes and earrings are pretty, but they don’t go with this dress at all.

    • mike__tv

    • karena10

Out.  The dress style is not so bad but the print is hideous.

    • MzzPants

    • Aly Light

That print in that color is looking like St. Patrick’s Day theme wear to me. OUT.

    • Pamela

No pockets and no full skirt & maybe then it would pass muster.

    • demidaemon

OUT. I, too, cannot stand the print.

    • Susan Wheeler

I love it, but it seems more like a casual look, and not something for the RC.  I think it’s the buttons, the seaming on the bodice, and the big pockets. Maybe for running around Beverly Hills, honey, but not for a gala.

    • LeifBallard

Those pockets make her look like she’s got hips for days….she has a way better than that dress leads us to believe!

    • PhillipWilde

      I hate it. OUT.

    • tallgirl1204

love the fabric, sort of like the top, hate the pockets, hate the jewelry.  Dang, I was hoping for an In but sorry, Out.

    • Sugarbeetle

This looks like a cruise casual dress to me. Something that would look fantastic on the lido deck.

    • Lisa

Out!  Just really ill fitting, and a weird print to boot.  Too bad, she can do better.

Omigod, love the Duran Duran ref.

        • holdmewhileimnaked

i thought you said she looks like a duran duran elf, which really works for me too.

    • Allison Woods

      You’re kidding, right? NO.

    • MajorBedhead

That was a scroll-down “Oof! Good god, no, honey!” for me.

how does a person incorrectly fold towels? i’m serious, i have no idea. i mean, theyre rectangular, right? so it’s, you know, up down up down, put the trim on the front? oh how lost i am in this universe.

oh heavens, she’s one of the only celebrities i can say i actually like so i’m gonna be biased. still, i also tend to like clothing that looks like it came from dr seuss, so thats a double win for me right there. the gold accessories genie drag it up so it depends on if that is yr goal. w/ her it might be so i wont even begin to criticize. less culturally constricted clothing is a goal of mine anyways.

      edited to add:
ps. it’s not a palazzo jumpsuit?

OUT.  I like the fabric, oddly enough, and the *idea* of the dress.  I don’t like the giant pockets at all.  And her girls are smushed and she has underarm-boob.  Too bad, because she looks pretty.

    • The Dose of Reality

      Out. Totally hideous.

Out. Big hip pockets can work (I’m in disagreement with Michael Kors’ on this concept), but really only on a more fitted silhouette. The length is wrong too. It needs to be either all the way to the floor without the pockets, or shorter and slimmer with the pockets.

    • Pterodactyl111

I would like it more without the giant pockets, but I still like it. IN!

    • PeaceBang

      OUT, and pass the Advil.

    • DylanCurtis

OUT. I can’t like anything she wears after what she’s done to her face.

    • MarissaLG

It would have been gorgeous if it was longer. As is? Out.

    • crash1212

IN. Love it BECAUSE of the big pockets. Also totally dig the shoes. And her hair is pretty and shiny. The earrings bug.

    • Sarah Rinehart

      I <3 IT

    • TieDye64

      Striking, but so OUT.

    • Marcela86

Out!The large pockets and the buttons ruin the dress!

    • H3ff

That lime green looks so CHEAP. Ugh. If it were in white I would adore it.

    • DCSheehan

So in it’s causing internal bleeding! My god, she looks terrific in this.

    • turtleemily

It’s kinda St. Patrick’s Day at the ren fair. Out.

    • ccm800

Out and I shall pass the op to say anything about the mug but where the hell did her freaking neck go now?!

    • lrhoff

      No, no, no.

    • AnneElliot

OUT.  Pockets too big, print is ENORMOUS  — the entire dress looks like it’s swallowing her up.  And I agree, the gold accessoriesI are just wrong.  It has sort of a Hawaiian-beachy vibe to it, and the gold earrings and sandals just don’t go.

    • librarygrrl64

OUT. There’s really nothing more to be said.
