IN or OUT: Kelly Osbourne

Posted on October 19, 2012

We’ll give Kelly credit for two things:

  1. She has fun with her style.
  2. She knows how to commit to a look.

Kelly Osbourne promotes E! Entertainment Television at the Plaza Condesa in Mexico City in a silver H&M peplum dress paired with Yves Saint Laurent shoes, and Delfina Delettrez earrings.

We think it’s a fun way to take that crazy-ass hair she loves so much and spin it out to a total robot-girl look from head to toe. It’s a look very few ladies could credibly attempt, but it’s right up her alley. Having said that, the dress isn’t all that flattering and the shoes seem kind of lazy. If you’re gonna wear the silver dress and the big purple pony tail, you can do better than fairly standard pumps.

Anyway, we thought we’d turn the tables on her and let the vicious public critique her look.

Vote Now!

IN! Judy Jetson realness!

OUT! Jiffy Pop!

Michelle Rodriguez’s prom dress was voted OUT.

    OUT. Space hooker.

    • Now see, my response was going to be “IN! Space Hooker”

      tomato, tomahto

      • Sobaika

Slight variation, I was thinking Space Go-Go Dancer. But either way it makes an IN for me as well.

        • formerlyAnon

        • demondoll

It’s an in for me, too

      • IN. I like the Space Hooker thing! 🙂

I am pretty tired of the lavender hair though.

        • ballerinawithagun

In. She’s young and fun, do the Space Hooker while you can!

    • Out.  I wouldn’t go so far as hooker, but definitely a space case.  Maybe a space cadet?

  • VicksieDo

I can’t stand her, and this is just silly.

  • Paige Hinson

    In! I love it!

  • samo_samo

In – cute, fun…more interesting shoes would have been good.

  • famousamy

I wonder sometimes if she doesn’t wear attention grabbing shoes to detract from those top of the foot tattoos. Just a thought.

But IN. I agree, she’s having fun with it and she’s committed to it. Can’t get better with fashion than that!

  • MarissaLG

    Werk that pony! IN.

  • Oze R.

Last weekend I was shopping for shoes to go with a dress for a wedding I am attending, and all I could think was “What would TLo say about these ones? Too matchy-matchy?” Thanks for the education, sirs!
Oh, and I say IN to Judy Jetson.

    • although i’ve heard (well… read actually) tlo contend that they wish not to advise real ladies on how to dress their voice haunts me when i’m shopping/dressing as well (which in my mind sounds like a catty version of kevin spacey). i still buy whatever i want, i just imagine how i’d be criticized for it. it gives me a chuckle.

  • Meh.  So over that hair color.

  • Imasewsure

In… would have loved some crazy shoes but this looks fun and cute – and props for not going gyno-length. Love the ring!

  • Ceur

In! Especially when I think about how insufferable she was as a teenager. She really turned her life around, and looks happy and fun.

  • A cute look that seems appropriate for an E! party. I normally hate the color of her hair, but it actually works here. IN!

    • peacockprincess

  • TSkot

Like this, the ridiculous hair color isn’t a distraction; best she’s looked in awhile.  IN

  • Love, love it! She looks amazing. She is in

  • Janet B

You see lazy shoes – I see lazy bra.

  • pop_top

I’m always distracted by her tattoos.

  • Boy, Dancing With The Stars did her a world of good, didn’t it?  I give her points for cheekiness and commitment here, but I think the dress — if it weren’t silvery leatherette — is pretty standard.  So I’m OUT.

  • ralish

I think it’s adorable and surprisingly flattering. I vote ‘in,’ especially given the event.

  • I like it.  She is not unattractive, but she is not a woman who would have become famous based on her looks.  I think she should embrace that (that she doesn’t look like your average starlet) and run with it with quirky but put-together looks like this one.  Plus, I think it’s flattering.  IN.

    • mountainFashionista

      Re becoming famous:

This is sort of like the Solange Knowles question someone asked the other day — is KO famous for anything besides being related to someone famous? I know she did the reality show with her family and all, but does she have any creative output of her own?

      • kimmeister

She did a cover of Papa Don’t Preach a few years ago . . .

    • lucasuk82

In.  Thank you for articulating what I was thinking but couldn’t put into words.  It kind why the Dame Edna hair is growing on me.

  • PhillipWilde

Y’all nailed it with “Judy Jetson realness.” I vote IN.

  • Out.  Not working for me. At. All.

  • MilaXX

IN – I like everything but the shoes.

  • IN. Kelly is a fashion hero of mine for being fun and not hypersexed. She’s someone who isn’t sexualized or objectified the way a lot of other young women are – maybe that comes from a place of once being overweight. If she would have gone more crazy with the shoes, it would have been more of a Halloween look. Kelly dresses to make Kelly happy.

  • Michael_Jones

IN. Right from the top of the page – first impressions. (I’m not sure I want to look any closer.)

  • melanie0866

In!  It’s cute and it fits her.

  • OUT. It’s just too silly for me. Which, is probably the point.

  • alyce1213

Tacky and cheap-looking from the top of her purple pony, the giant crucifix earrings, the silver mylar peplum dress, the tattoos, to the shoes.

Yet, somehow she’s making it work so I say IN, with an against it.

  • tired_mommy

In–she’s having to much fun to be out.

  • I love it. IN

  • mjude

  • kaycem

judy jetson realness for sure:  IN.

  • Joyce VG

She’s fun!  And she’s rocking that dress. IN.  (the lazy pumps will be ignored)

  • Judy_J

Judy Jetson all the way (I’m giving her a pass on the shoes).  IN.

    •  Judy Jetson, by way of Madonna, by way of I Dream of Jeannie. Therefore, fun, and IN.

  • teensmom99

IN.  She has never looked so good.

  • crash1212

  • HomeOfficeGirl

In (for her) – the purple hair looks youthful instead of elderly.

  • I love it. But then, I’m a sucker for the Jetsons, so there you go.

  • Sara__B

  • Brett

  • MoHub

In, in spite of the shoes.

  • prettybigkitty

Out.  Judy Jetson called, and she wants her look back.

  • decormaven

I like the slimming effect of the pulled back natural hair- not too sure about the Tressy doll effect, though. She loves fashion so much, and I’m glad she plays with different looks, but for me, her ink often detracts from what she’s trying to achieve.

    • formerlyAnon

Ohhh, I was fascinated by the Tressy doll at one point, though not for long enough to beg my way into getting one.

  • The shoes disappear into the floor in a weird way, but other than that, she looks adorably geek-chic.  The earrings are fantastic.

  • frannyprof

  • Katy Perry gets away with this more often, I think because she executes it a with a little more polish, but I wish more people would take more chances like this with their personal style.

  • In. Post-modern riff on Madonna’s Blonde Ambition period.

  • j_anson

    Aw, it’s her. IN.

  • jilly_d

IN!  I love this on her, and it looks like she’s having fun.

  • Okay, that’s awesome. I just think she seems like so much fun. IN.

  • DaveUWSNYC

Judy Jetson on break right after changing Barfolomew’s order from the Space Special to the Space Soup.

  • Call me Bee

I really want Kelly to be my BFF–she seems like so much fun yet sweet and kind.  This outfit is kinda silly, but she’s owning it and that’s 7/8 of the battle.  IN.

  • Stubenville

Sorry, I just cannot stand her and that fake accent. yes, her parents are British, but she grew up in LA.

And she looks like a throw away extra from The Fifth Element.

    • alyce1213

I was going to defend her British accent on the grounds that she did spend some of her young life in the UK, but when I saw her on Fashion Police the other day, the accent was so damn THICK and the articulation so like her mother, it turned me off completely. Anyone who’s lived in the states as long as she has should be able to ease between American and British English when appropriate, but she never does. Her accent and pretentious, Sharonesque words of wisdom, and undeserved fashion expertise are really annoying.
It’s fine that FP has a young, alternative fashion opinion on the panel, but boy does she ever take herself too seriously.

  • Miss_Led

In! Love it. Needed boots though, but that’s a quibble.

  • AmeliaEve

IN. Really fun. I don’t even mind the plain black shoes. They keep the whole look simple and bold and cartoony. Cute.

  • granddelusion

    Kelly Osbourne is always out.

  • mmc2315

IN!  Work that Jetson goth look, Kelly!

But much better shoes next time.  I’m giving you a pass on that one.

  • Michael Owens

I’m not a fan of her cotton candy-look, but this is the best she’s done in recent memory/ever.

  • PinkLemon

  • Scott Hester-Johnson

THIS is what happens when Dmitri’s “styling” (silver metallic “ombre” hair?) is taken to its logical conclusion.

Still, it’s KO so I say in. That girl can do no wrong.

  • lbl

IN. I hate almost everything about this, but somehow she’s still pulling it off. And yes, crazier shoes would have been more fun. Maybe a pair of those car-inspired Prada (?) sandals from a few seasons back.

  • Rand Ortega

She’s 1 of Mudd’s Women! Straight ’60’s Star Trek! It’s fun. My only complaint– if you’re going to go for it, go all the way. Those shoes ruin it for me.

  • Fun! I like it. IN.

  • Scarlet39

IN!  Total Judy Jetson, but she knows it!

  • I like it. She’s fun! IN!

  • … … … … … …
    … … … … … …
    … … … … … …
    … what the hell! IN!

  • Synnamin

IN! It’s fun, totally her, and makes me want to hang out with her

  • Judy_S

I will give her an In. Her smile is perfect with the Jetson look, though I agree the shoes should not just disappear here.

  • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Out.  Her hair just ruins anything she wears…make it stop!

  • Pennymac

IN! Nothing about this look is to my personal taste, but her commitment to it and the way she’s pulling it off totally work. You work that Judy Jetson realness, Girl!

  • She’s totally out, but in the best way possible.  Out to lunch, out in space.  She seems like a very gentle, kind person and she’s done an amazing job getting into shape, and she’s a friend of Dorothy’s friends… so she’s in in my book.  Even though she’s out here.

  • SewingSiren

Jiffy Pop Judy Jetson Realness. IN.

  • Emma Przybylinski

  • Jangle57

Oh it’s fine, though I find the hair distracting.  IN

  • ChristinaRi

She’s out until she does something about that hair.

  • Kate4queen

    In. she’s smiling like a loon. 🙂

  • Little Kelly trick-or-treating? Don’t care. OUT

  • NCDFan

In. She’s come a long way from her Dad’s reality show. Her genuine sparkling smile is one of her best features.

  • tereliz

Tentative out. If the peplum wasn’t attached at the front, the fit would be better. And are those suede cobalt pumps? Can that trend please die? Or dye, I don’t care which. Hate the earrings and OMG, Kelly, I wish you’d go red. You’ve got great skin, but that purple is doing nothing for it.

  • KuriousKat

In. She’s having fun and looks good.

  • julnyes

Well when you start pulling out Jetsons references I have to go with an IN

(which is odd since I always hated that show – and the Flintstones too)

  • Allison Woods

I wish the bodice fit a little better, but otherwise, yeah–cute. IN.

  • Katy Perry wanna-be

  • call_me_schmeg

kelly is one of my favorite drag queens. IN.

  • She’s in Mexico so she has to go all 80s Telemundo on us?  But she looks happy, so that’s nice.

If she had gone farther with the space hooker motif, I think she could’ve sold it.  But she didn’t so she’s Out.

  • Anathema_Device

Out. The hair takes into costume land, like Jem or whatever that cartoon was.

    ETA: Jem and the Holograms!

    • LesYeuxHiboux

In some circles that is taken as the deepest compliment. I may be part of one of those circles.

  • The dress is kind of cute, & even the hair works, but she needs to yank those boobs up, there’s nothing shameful about wearing a bra…

  • Snailstsichr

I think she looks fabulous. IN
And I think her eyebrows are awesome.

  • rissa42210

In!  Adorable and committed.  Valid critique about those shoes, though.

  • kschwarting

I know she’s become very thin, so I give this a big ol’ OUT for the way that dress is pooching over her midsection and stumpifying her a bit.

  • IN. She looks acceptable.

  • She is adorable and is rocking her new body!  I understand how she feels- you  tend to be alittle freer with your clothes when you have lost a significant amount of weight.  I forgive her- she is a new woman

  • ChelseaNH

The hair has won me over — IN.

  • DylanCurtis

OUT. The dress is simple enough to really pick a fun shoe which she didn’t. She focused on that hair and I hate fake hair when you had short hair the day before and it’s obviously fake.

  • OUT. If I saw her in person it would be all I could do not to try to pull that disgusting hair out by its roots. So, yeah, barely even noticed the dress or shoes. Can’t get over it.

  • gabbilevy

In! Totally fun, and showier shoes would have been a bridge too far… which may be a weird thing to say considering she’s wearing a shiny silver dress and a giant purple ponytail.

  • pax540

I agree, she kind of dropped the ball on the shoes, but otherwise, her homage to Judy Jetson is, as TLo says, giving me life! IN!

  • snarkykitten

her bad tattoos are bugging the shit out of me. Why can’t celebs afford to get decent ink?

  • Ozski

Dress is IN and fun, but her expression and just mere presence in an OUT. Why IS she, again?

  • IN!  She looks cute and fun, and her personal style keeps it just short of cosplay.

  • Except for the shoes, I like it. I’m a give it an IN.

  • MzzPants

  • Susan Collier

In. She’s the new Julie Brown.

  • PastryGoddess

Some horse gave up it’s tail so she could have a lavender cascade of hair.

IN…but I reserve the right to call PETA

  • demidaemon

IN. I kind of love this, especially her committedness. You go, 21st century Judy Jetson.

  • Sarah Casarella

In! It fits her great and it’s fun and fresh. I don’t even think the pumps are too bad considering they’re a nice pop of color

  • Trisha26

    Out. Space Waitress.

  • Truly truly truly outrageous realness. IN.

  • TieDye64

I’m kinda’ digging the Judy Jetson cuteness here. I’d like it a whole lot more with some outrageously fun shoes. IN.

  • tallgirl1204

i can’t believe I’m going to say this about gold metallic and a purple my-little-pony hairdo, but “in.”  Mainly because she looks super-happy and obviously doesn’t take herself too seriously.

  • Contralto

IN!  What a hoot.  I love it.

  • ThaliaMenninger

OUT! She looks like one of the intergalactic girlfriends they gave Captain Kirk in 1967. They all had cheap outfits and high ponytails just like that.

  • afabulous50

IN – Give her a ray gun and a jet pack!

  • IN. Don’t like the long hair but I love that dress on her.

  • For the love of god please get rid of the hair!!

I think the dress is actually kind of cute and works for HER, but I can’t get past THAT. HAIR.

  • kimmeister

The earrings and the shoes don’t go.  Everything else is pretty fun though.  In.

  • Laylalola

  • LesYeuxHiboux

IN, because I would totally wear this. Though I might replace the pumps with an insane pair of kickass space boots. I probably would not dye my hair lavendar, but it doesn’t bother me that she did. She’s not a traditionally beautiful gal, and she’s pushing the “different” envelope (which is the same reason that I wear giant white prescription glasses). Commit, own it, respect.

  • Totally loving the space hostess look. In.

  • enough w/ the purple hair already! OUT

  • Totally in. Love it!

  • In! I think she’s having fun!

  • Totally works for me – IN!

  • IMNAngryLiberal

IN — she looks freaking adorable here and she is clearly having a really good time with the look.

  •  IN! Judy Jetson realness!

  • Toto Maya

No. I don’t see why everyone thinks she’s some sort of fashion queen, she looks ridiculous most of the time.

  • J. Preposterice

I just love how happy she looks in pics. It’s like she’s the opposite of K.Stew.

  • I sometimes like her style and even her purple-tinted hair, but not this one.  OUT.  Space hooker.

  • Rebecca Jay

    I always love her makeup.

  • DCSheehan

In. I want to see this look all over the place! Not those shoes, or the hair mind you…but so many women could rock this look.

  • julesj

Can’t stand her. Out. Don’t care how “fun” and “silly” or “crazy” she is!

  • formerlyAnon

IN. I’d have liked it more with lavender or white or – better yet – a patterned, (maybe paisley?) go go boot.

Though that *would* have been too literal with the hair, perhaps, and I’m not sure her legs are long enough to get away with short boots.

I just LOVE that she “commits” and I don’t have any problem at all with the hair color. And I really love seeing her with a genuine looking smile, one that reaches her eyes.

  • Zippypie

A marginal IN – she’s having fun and I love her personality coming through, but enough with the dishwashy purple hair already.  She’s been sporting that for too long and it’s not flattering to her skintone whatsoever.  The shoes suck.  Go for a pair of pumps with spikes at least, Kelly.  Go Barbarella all the way!

  • IN! kelly commits and looks fab doing it.

  • Hate the shoes but love how much fun she looks. IN

  • I love it! IN!

  • Laura Osborne

So totally IN! What a cute dress – she’s rocking this look.

  • thexstarsxalign

In! She’s adorable, and I love her for wearing an H&M dress to be photographed in.

  • leftcoastpickle

I usually love and defend Ms. Osbourne, but this is OUT.

  • nannypoo

I like everything except the hair, which I am so sick of I could scream.

  • In! Fun!

  • LuluBI

IN! She’s pulling it off. You are right about the shoes, of course.

  • a_liking

    In. It’s great.

  • I am not a fan of peplums, I think they look ’80s tacky on most dresses, but despite that, I like the dress, so I vote in. Whether I like Kelly Osbourne as a person is debatable though. Anyone who has struggled with their weight and then criticizes other people for putting on weight instantly loses my respect. Osbourne might be thin now, but that doesn’t mean she’ll stay that way forever so she should watch what she says when it comes to that.

  • Fine for a Halloween Party.  Otherwise looks like any young woman going to a nightclub.  I guess I don’t get her.  She is famous for being related to someone famous, used a reality show to hire an agent who put her on some other reality shows.  So she is a C or D list celebrity who lives life as a barbie doll.  I’m waiting for the personal crisis tell all book and the round of talk shows which might score her a cover somewhere.  She might have done something with her life.

  • OUT. I like that she has fun with her hair color and fashion, but this over the shoulder horsetail paired with this dress doesn’t do it for me. I think the dress is fun, but with the hair the whole thing says too tacky to me to be anything but an out.

  • IN. Love the dress on her. I’m tired of her purple hair, but this purple pony is working with the silver dress. Only eye sore is the shoes. Those are an out.

  • In – she’s practically a cartoon anyway.

  • Bailey Debruynkops

in but i wish the shoes were better, she usually picks cuter shoes

  • KC

    Cute and campy

  • CatherineRhodes

IN  (for her and absolutely nobody else).

  • she looks good, but I really wish she would get rid of the lavender hair

  • enchanted216

IN…and it looks like she’s giving a reverse “Live long and prosper.”  🙂

  • unbornfawn

This is one of the few times I think her outfit works with her hair. She’s owning the look. IN.

  • Celandine1

Usually I hate her hair but this is fun and works with the dress. Interesting shoes might have been too much, so a total IN for me.

  • and here I was thinking “I dream of Jeanie on Meth”….no one else sees the bad Barbara Edenesqe hair? In the go-go boots and the genie bottle with a crack pipe and some Syd and Marty Kroft puppets/drug trip? No?

  • aristida_girl

IN, anytime a girl looks like she is having that much fun she can get away with a lot 🙂 I also like the look just for the dress alone

  • Can’t bear her earring choices. Or the hair. Or her ‘loved all the fashion’ comments on the ‘Police.

  • She is never going to be any different…….what the hell, IN.

And I LOVE being reminded of Judy Jetson!

  • IN.  love that she chose earrings that reflect the venue and mexican style, as well as her heritage as daughter of ozzie.

  • Emmyllou

IN. Admirable guts in one so short.

  • Lisa Kramp

I loved the Judy Jetson look in the 80’s, though it takes a specific type of girl to pull it off. Nice that Kelly with her Lavender hair has updated the look for this millenia, but the shoes are meh. IN.

  • Gener1c

Out – let’s not insult Jiffy Pop like that …

  • Tatiana Luján

The only things I really hate about this look are the hair and the earings.

  • Ann

I’ll give it an in, but she really needs to lose that awful lavender hair. It works with this dress but not with ANYTHING ELSE.

  • plinkiedoodle

  • Dhammadina

Jiffy pop is genius. Plus Barbarella, which comes close to space hooker. IN!

  • annrr

In, love the pony. I’ve always wanted to do my hair like that, just once.

  • lalahartma

    In!  Fun!

  • littlemac8

IN  Just for the fun of it!

  • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

IN.  She’s just adorable.  Love her style and adventurous nature.

  • guest2visits

Kind of cute and kitschy; agree the right shoes would have made a big difference. It looks fun on her.

  • IN.

Who else could come remotely close to rocking this?
